im kind of new so just trying to get a feel for what most people are and aren't flying
Ive only been playing for maybe 5 days but I'ved noticed very few people in Caldari space seem to fly:
Griffins
Herons
seems to be all about the Kestrels, Merlins, or the Bantams a the more economical choice
I bought a Heron the other day, slapped a STD missile and a 150mm rail 1 it made for a good pirate hunter

In frigs there tends to emerge one or two good choices for a race, particularly due to slot configuration.
Generally, the more highs the better for damage, the more mids the better for tanking / ew / tackling and the more lows the better for tanking and damage mods. Personally the only t1 frig i still fly is the rifter, since it can occasionally take on t2 frigs and win.

To the average user, a Griffon or Heron doesn't have that much to offer. Add those ships to a PvP gang though and you will be their new best friends. Not every ship is suited for day to day use and have niche roles, thats why you see less of them compared to others.
Oh, and you'll never see anyone flying a Bellicose

The Griffin is a very effective and affordable PvP ship if used correctly, but doesn't fair so well against NPCs, which is probably why you don't see many at the moment. Personally, I wouldn't touch the Bantam with a very long pole: The poor agility and capacitor, as well as its high mass, means that it takes ages to cross large systems. Train Minmatar frigate to level 3 and go for a Probe instead if you want a quick ship with a semi decent cargo capacity.

what is the viability of a Blackbird caldari crusier?
I dont see many out there is it more towards the electronics than tanking end of the spectrum and thats why its underused?

blackbird has no weapons bonuses, but has nice Ewar ability which im sure makes them worth then having a HAC in your gang in some pvp.

Bellies work nicely as mixed-ordinence delivery platforms... drones, guns, and missiles, it's got it all. Also seen more than a few others in space, that I didn't own.

The only bellicose ive ever seen was flown by a goonfleet guy who i assumed didnt know better.
Oh wait, actually I remember seeing another one while in atuk fighting around e02. Someone was like "OMG WARP TO ME FACTION CRUISER TACKLED COME ON GUYS GET HERE COME ON FACTION CRUISER!!!" *POP* "Um... thats not a faction cruiser... its a bellicose" "wtf is a bellicose?"

Bellicose is Minmatar ewar cruiser.

Other ewar cruisers are Arbitrator, Celestis and Blackbird. Though we all know that there is really just one.

The arbi might be more situational than the BB, but its considerably more effective against turret ships... shuts them down ALL the time... at least since they fixed the fixed stacking penalty :)

Bellicose can't do nuffing right while the Arbitrator rocks pretty much in quite a few situations.
If you want a Bellicose for testing, I can build one for you. But only if you insist.

:) I use all the frigates and have then all geared for different jobs... But I will say I use my kestrel and merlin the mose out of them. I also have a condor that can almost do 1 km/s. I use the Caldari Destroyer for weaker rats and I have all the cruisers save one (the Moa) I'm still pretty new though so I like to tinker with all my ships configurations and stuff... I have my heron set up for EW and my griffin as a tackler. I plan on getting a hawk as soon as possible tho :) Hi from another newb :D

bellicose was better when it didnt have its slots messed with imo.
logistics ships are the most underused class of ships imo.

Bellicose got hit badly with friendly fire in the missile bay changes.
Someone totally forgot that it used missiles as one of the main weapons.
Then there was a certain drone ship overhaul wher someone forgot to hug the Bellicose again. At least it has a target painter bonus now.

Most under used ships? I can only think of a couple... IE: Typhoon, most amarr crusiers other than the Maller?

i see a hell of a lot of them... but only in PvP where it is a godsend, particulalarly in small gangs

Here's another list of useless/semi-useless ships
Caldari:
Heron - Condor performs better and is cheaper
Griffin - No need for it's 4 mids now Merlin has them too
Raptor - Crow outclasses it in every way
Hawk: Harpy outclasses it in every way. Only ever used if someone wants a cheap Caldari AF
Gallente:
Navitas - Imicus is better for industiral type things
Exequoror - Osprey/Scythe mine more and it's only ever used as a 'first cruiser' type thing really
Ares - Taranis outclasses it in every way
Amarr:
All frigs except Crusader/Punisher - Crusader/Punisher perform better for the respective price bands
Augorur - No real use, only ever used as a 'my first cruiser'
Vengeance: Rubbish damage, rubbish tank. Only used if you can only fly Amarr AF and want to solo PvP in it
Minmatar:
Bellicose - Can do nothing useful better than any of the other Minmatar cruisers but costs more than the Scythe so is rarely used by anyone
Muninn - Isn't a bad ship but the people who can fly Minmatar HACs usually opt for the Vagabond instead and so you don't see many Muninns

This is going to change in the future. People are already stockpiling them, and some trying to resell them for 50m a ship in anticipation of the change.

My new account char flies an Augoror. A cruiser being able to run a Large Energy Transfer array meant I could remove all the cap rechargers on my apoc. Mission running never was this easy. :p

Griffin doesn't get used much, true, but with it's EW bonii and general frigateyness, it's a fairly good light EW ship. The only problem being, that the BB does it better, and by the time someone's 'discovered' EW they can probably fly cruisers anyway.
Hawk is being changed, and will be worthy.
