1,564 people in local. Node bouncing between 96%-68% TIDI and at some point reached 100%. Good job CCP, I'd say that's progress, from the days in 2003 I remember where 20 vs 20 almost killed the server.

You must be kidding with this. You know that once it hits 10%, it continues to read 10%, no matter how slow it goes. If you bother analyzing response times, Tidi gets close to 1% at times....

Tidi doesn't go below 10%. The problem is, when tidi hits 10% the server load continues to increase past the point where the server is able to respond even with the extra time allowed. Which leads to delays in having commands processed. My EVE Videos |

So TiDi alleviates some of the lag but its ability to do so is negligible once you hit a certain point and at that point you just get normal lag, yea?

How many will stop playing? A small percentage of the blob-sec lemmings.
And how many will play the game?
Well, let's see..... All of high sec will continue to play. All of the wormhole crowd will continue to play. All the low sec players will continue to play. All of the non-sov null sec players will continue to play.
And the vast majority of the null sec farmers will continue to play. And the cartel leaders will continue to play too.

Yes and not only this but everything gets messed up. For example I wanted to warp from spot A to spot B but after some minutes I got a fleet warp to C instead which happened after I clicked warp to B. At spot B I clicked warp back to A but after several minutes and still nothing happening I tried to warp off grid to a beacon, several minutes later again my warp to spot A started instead. After landing on A I clicked warp to B (my original destination) and it happened pretty fast after 2 or 3 minutes. After landing on spot B I tried to move towards the enemy but suddenly my warp to the off grid beacon started and I couldn't stop it. This was a ~30 AU warp so I pressed Alt+F4 and did something else
And this is only a minor example for commands and modules getting messed up when the server enters such heavy stress situations. |

And CCPs response is to introduce more bullshit deployable (deplorable) structures. Brilliant!

~It all has happened before~
Well, it looks like people actually managed to push beyond TiDi and create actual lag. They also, well, demand the impossible - treating the word "Multithreading" as a silver bullet, which... it isn't. It's not a case of CCP being lazy bastards because they can't push the cap upwards fast enough.
The EVE server is in fact multithreaded - the client, IIRC, is not natively multithreaded.
While CCP should totally look into ways of breaking the record of "most players simultaneously shooting each other in the face in realtime", they should primarily reconsider the base of game design. If they bump the count at which their system loses its **** by 2k players, the coalitions will simply take advantage of it - more people will come to have fun and we'll reach status quo.
What requires fixing is the game design itself. If a battle of 4k over one sov structure is broken apart into 4 parallel battles of 1k, and each takes place on a separate node the system will hold up way better - so I suppose we need an incentive for the attack to be broken apart between multiple areas.
There's many factors as to why things like this occur - from the ways sov structures work (pretty much rewarding dogpiling into a system and offering little alternative while X comes out of reinforced) to titan bridges allowing instant travel to a system without the possibility of interception along the way. There's a whole load of broken here, and it won't be an easy task to fix it - still, I hope CCP has a good team on this because if the sov of today attracted hundreds of players to EVE through tales of fighting for something you built, an improved sov system can only do better. Is it Hotdrop O'Clock yet?
Covert pilots unite! Safer working conditions, less accidental limb loss due to unfortunate Cyno accidents! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=258986 |

People who complain about TIDI make me laugh. They're the same type who probably complain about traffic, not realizing that they, themselves, are a part of said traffic.
CCP have some of (if not the) most powerful servers in the gaming industry. Thousands of people can be on-grid in a single fight, far more than some games can even handle in their entire game world, let alone all together in one place. The TIDI system works reasonably well to accommodate all of them, up until you reach the extreme numbers.
Is TIDI a good system? Compared to what once was, yes, it is. Compare the time prior to TIDI, and compare it now. Fights can be much larger. But inevitably, people come along, whining, bitching, moaning, and complaining about how bad TIDI is. It isn't the best system, but the cost-benefit of its alternatives would make even Blizzard cower in terror.
If people want 4000+ pilot fights to be done without TIDI, they need to wait 5 or 10 years for the raw processing technology necessary to become affordable. Granted, by then, fights will probably be 6000+ people, and the situation will continue, simply because the necessary technology isn't affordable.
Until then, if someone doesn't like fighting under TIDI, don't. Nobody's holding a gun to your head. Ransoms are accepted in Isk, Ships, Mods, and Dolls. |

I remember the endless complaints going on like "I warped on grid, my screen was black for 10 minutes and then I was in a new clone".

Their servers could be upgraded with some GPUs and recode the gameserver so most of processing is done on the GPUs. GPUs processing is 100x faster then CPUs and this could fix the TiDi because the GPUs could keep up with the commands quicker then the CPU can. But I don't see CCP doing this, which is sad. |

Actually I think the complaint is justified. If the servers can't handle the load to where the game is playable for all, then something needs to be fixed.
Being booted from the server after sitting in tidi for 3 hours so CCP can reinforce the node (took nearly half an hour to get logged back in), only to be booted from the server 2 hours later and not being able to log back in, still hadn't made it to the fight.
Then to read, many of those who made it to the fight were unable to do anything and 7 hours later are still being evacuated from the system. Yeah, Great Job CCP.
I spent 5 hours in fleet and never made it to the fight. Next time a fight like this comes up, I won't bother. |

1st: Winter Archipelago.... ur the all knowing Grandgod of the hole menkind EvE Universe and all **** what the menkind ever made and maybe the god of dinosaurs and what will come after the menkind!!!
2nd: This Battle reminds me for the old days of EvE where we was waiting ages until we spawn in a System after hit the jump button and found ourself death or alive in the destination. I was more than one hour in a jump tunnel, with emergency warp and all 1,5h if i remember right. 3,5 hours my weapons and siege was flashing red after i deactivated them and i was simply able to do nothing... cant warp off, cant jump out and werent be able to go back in siege because all was flashing red... ah and the enemies was waiting and i was one of the last who get killed. And before the hole time i was in siege my weapons was hitting like 5 times or so. Thats a ******* joke!!!
Look at this...
If u look at this pic... from the module cycle u could assume, yeah still in siege but no wtf there is something jamming, but wait there are still targets locked and there is a jamcycle wtf

The analogy of a traffic jam is somewhat off the mark, or is it. Yes they are part of the overall problem of traffic jams but if the powers to be (government bodies) improved infrastructure would those traffic jams still be as bad? Hmm lets see, if CCP did something to change the way these fights are dealt with, would tidi be reduced.
Maybe your right, they are the same people and in both instances pay for the right to either drive their car or play eve

The thing is massive battles with open numbers are the advertising and selling point of the game If they can't provide comfortable gameplay above certain number of players involved they should restrict it by game design otherwise the game is broken |

Okay Mr. smart ass. What wrong with my post? Ever hear of the Titan Supercomputer? It's the first hybrid supercomputer that uses GPU/GPUs for the processing power. As of right now it performs at 17.59 petaFLOPS, but can theoretical perform at 27 petaFLOPS. There is only one other supercomputer faster and that is the Tianhe-2. But that costs four times more than the Titan at $390M USD to Titans $97M USD.
Ever hear of Bitcoin mining? What did they use to mine coins with before ASIC chips came out? Oh that's right they used GPUs because they were faster at mining than CPUs. Lets see here a i7-3770K can mine at 5.2 Mhash/s and cost you $330 USD. A ATI Radeon HD 7870 GHz can mine at 460 Mhash/s and cost you from $189-220 USD. Oh look at that the GPU is faster and I saved some cash.
So if CCP upgrade to a CPU/GPU hybrid gameservers, they'll get more bang for their buck. I never said they would have to recode the game, Gameserver != Game. You do know you could change the gameserver language from one language like Python to a different one like Java and the game client would never know the difference. I know crazy right!? The reason why I said I don't see CCP changing is because GPUs aren't has flexible as a CPU when programming for them, plus I don't see them having the backbone to do it.
Oh and one more thing kid. I live and breathe programming. I tutor it at my college, help people on forums, and could program circles around you for months. You're the one that needs to learn about computers and programming before opening up your little mouth. |

I was also "there" when the problems we have now at 2500 players would occur at 250, with 500 players bringing the system to the screeching halt that now occurs at the 3000+ mark.
Uh, comparing "then" to "now" I see one difference: thousands of people are lagging out instead of hundreds. Thousands are finding the game unplayable instead of hundreds.

From experience I know often they change something like "fixed the word CPC to CPP" and totally unrelated things start happening to say, drone behaviour. It appears to be somewhat tightly coupled or what people refer to as spaghetti code. Its likely not a simple matter of rewriting the server code. Also EvE is not Windows, I don't know much if anything about it but I doubt its able to be ported onto completely different hardware without issues.

Maybe with the criticism, people could also be a bit more constructive and give some solutions to the problem. I've fought in large scale battles with CFC and old NC and there is northing worse than clicking on lock target or f1 for weaponry and waiting half an hour for one cycle. Tonights big fights sounded like complete hell for those coming into the system
The only solution I can see is system capacity capage. Allowing 4k players into a system for them to not actually be able to play the game in a free flowing manner is NOT achieving anything remotely worthwhile (lag free is impossible but playable surely isn't!). So what if it statistically breaks records. It does not improve game-play in the slightest and only enhances community rage. So as said why bother ? In a battle such as this, I think they need to consider capping the amount of pilots allowed into a system that is pre-planned for a major battle.
I think the larger alliance would then have to think a lot harder about what fleets / ships they are going to drop in. More planning and tactics and much less blobbage.
If technology is not sufficient enough to handle this sort of gaming environment, then we need other alternatives. |

OK, then short of major rewriting of large chunks of eve's codebase, which perhaps isn't possible, then change the objectives of the sov system. If the game is heavily limited in what a single system can handle, then force the colliding fleets to split their forces across multiple systems to accomplish their objectives.
In other words, rather than 3000 capsuleers all piling into one system, split that 3000 across an entire constellation of 6 or 7 systems. Thus: an average 500 a system, maybe 1000 max. The servers can handle that, perhaps even without tidi.
Make it so they have some infrastructure objective to complete in each, roughly simultaneously, or some "state of the war" running count as faction warfare has. Or both. The details don't really matter, just anything that forces the fleets to split their numbers across multiple systems.
Someone above mentioned a road traffic analogy, which is fair enough. Supply is limited, and any extra capacity for a single system will soon be swamped. The difference is that CCP can change the target destination of all the traffic fairly easily, and thus solve everything on the demand side.

Then coalitions would bring 3000 people to each of those 6 or 7 systems.
Right now you have a box and there are too many people in the box. They can't move. There isn't even enough room for them to scratch their asses.
If you make the box bigger so those people can move around more freely, they will just bring MORE PEOPLE and fill up the volume of the new, bigger box until none of them can move.

I doubt there are such numbers available. That's 20,000 toons, plus assorted logistics chains behind them.
Even if there were, it's a drastically higher bar to hit before nodes start falling over.

Another solution could a be a type of combat arena. Limited to 1000 pilots (or whatever the node can handle without Tidi). Each side can have as many pilots on standby as they wish but only a set amount from either side can enter the arena at any given time.
Players from each side could be moved in from another node at intervals during the fight to maintain numbers. The fight could last for hours or even days if pilots are in fleet ready to go and willing to keep losing assets.
EG Fight; Arena size of 1000 km to allow FC's to warp to optimal's or utilize other strategic maneuvers. Beacons could be utilized as drop points for new combatants. They would only be accessible by 'blues' and shielded in a manner similar to a pos to allow new combatants a way of entering the battle without being popped as soon as they are dropped into the system.
Each side has a maximum 500 ships on field limits, 150 capitals - 200 battleship, battle cruiser - 150 cruiser, frigate.
As the battle progresses destroyed ships are replaced from backup fleets at preset intervals, if you lost 50 capitals 30 battleships or battle cruisers and 100 cruisers and frigates they could be moved from backup fleet to the arena. If you don't want to field another 50 capitals they could be replaced with 50 from any other class but no more than 150 capitals and a maximum of 500 ships could be on field at a time.
Arena fights could be for a predetermined time or until one side says enough, or is unable to field more combatants.
Fc's would need to think carefully about what ships they are fielding and what they have in replacement fleets. It may mean fielding 150 caps 300 cruisers and 50 frigates or 150 caps 200 battleships with the rest being subcap support with a few dictors thrown in.
A 1000km arena means smaller ships like frigates and cruisers are not just stuck on field to be blapped by drone spewing battleships and carriers, there is room to warp around strategically.
*Arena fights would not of course remove "sov grinds" but for mass pre-planned engagements, they could be a solution to waiting for hours to jump to a fight only to sit in 10% tidi for hours on end. Probably not everyone's idea of a good plan but it may be somewhere to start.

I don't disagree MonkeyMagic. The point I am trying to make is that so long as war is a question of superior numbers, people are going to bring everything they can. As objectives are met in other systems, the fleets will redeploy to systems where the objectives have not been met and will continue to do so until there is one system left where the objectives have not yet been met and they will all dogpile into that one system.
You're idea isn't a bad idea and I hope you don't take my playing devils advocate in a malicious way. I just think that there has to be a better way. It would be nice if there were other ways to flip systems other than full scale blobs trying impotently to shoot at each other. Hacking sov structures instead of shooting them for hours. Surely not the best idea but someone with more experience than I in sov warfare can surely think of things that would include more subtlety and subterfuge instead of the suckfest that currently exists.
I also apologize if my ignorance of sov warfare annoys anyone. My posting is only an effort to help with the issues I saw watching this on TwitchTV and thinking I was looking at a screenshot and not a live battle.

Yeah I don't see why CCP cannot stage these fights being as they have to be notified in advance and then micro-manage the event when the time comes. Lets face it, everything in null these days is staged by Mittani and Shadoo etc but at least the puppets on the front line would enjoy these fake wars more. |

I wonder if CCP will use these huge battle numbers for marketing. I'm sure if they do they will leave out some minor details like TiDi, obviously, which seems like it will upset any new player coming into this game wanting to take part in such a large battle and having to put up with such a feature.
Also, just how many people ARE actually upset by this TiDi 'feature'? I haven't been to null and I haven't taken part in such a huge battle and apart from a little TiDi at Jita now and then I haven't had major issues; but surely if it was really all that bad then there would be +/- 3,900 individuals complaining in this very thread!
Considering how large the EVE player base is (I assume it's rather large) and how relatively small the complaints are about TiDi, is it actually all that bad? In terms of percentage of individual players(sans alts, etc.) complaining about it, with regards to the entire active player base, just how many is it? 3% or 5% of players are complaining, more?
Also, going through most of the threads in this forum one quickly realises that's it a very, very small number of 'usual suspects' that are posting. I recon the majority of active players barely touch, let along post anything in these forums and are quite content and happy with EVE and the game in general.
Just how many individuals are complaining in these so called "threadnaughts" verses just the endless amount of posts by said 'usual suspects'?
Maybe i'm wrong and the EVE player base is rather small, then the amounts of complaints should actually be worrying to CCP? But I doubt it. |

Lol always the same, when the game was stressed to its limits when local hit 1000 people still brought 1000 people to a fight fully aware that the node would probably crash. CCP worked hard to avoid node crashing, Tidi is the solution for that but even with Tidi the hardware has its limits.
Even if CCP had a Cray Titan people would find ways to cram enough people/accounts into one system to make it lag! It has always been this way since god knows how long. Remember that Lotka Voltera baby Titan when was it...2006? When goons and friends brought enough people to crash the node and when it did they managed to log in faster/more coordinated giving them the advantage to kill the CSAA. Year in year out players stress the server capabilities. Today its moaning about 4000 tomorrow when the server has enough power to provide 4000 battles, provided the game keeps growing/people keep on amassing more accounts it will be 6000 people and we will have the same rage and tears again then 10.000.
The problem here is the herd mentality of the players and the mechanics that allow to plan for stuff like this far too long in advance and the sov mechanics in general but there is no easy solution to that either.
Not sure if random timers within a 12 hours time frame would solve anything. (Didn-¦t the game have that at some point?) If only the game had line of sight shooting clusterf**** like this would not happen since each entity would obliterate their own fleets if they warped them in in a huge pile but as things are and given the mentality of people CCP needs to find a workable solution for the sov mechanics. Even the best hardware in the world won-¦t solve this since people will find ways to bring more people bringing the server/node to its limits time and again!
And to all the people complaining, I find it quite a miracle that the node managed to hold with almost 4000 people, god knows how many drones and people shooting, thats quite amazing! People in system with a loaded grid reported it was quite playable.
The CFC and friends could have avoided a lot of grief if they had taken Tidi and a laggy node into account and HAD NOT warped in 1500+ subcaps first frying the grid and then tried to jump their caps on top. Read Kugu, people have provided several solutions how things could have been handled much better by the CFC.
So before pointing fingers at CCP alone some people should look in the mirror.
You guys KNEW that there would be heavy Tidi, you guys KNEW that the node would be unresponsive and yet your solution was to pile in everything nevertheless, instead of thinking of ways how to get the caps/supercaps in and give them the best chance to load even the grid instead of shooting yourself in the foot.
But mad props for at least trying are in order I guess ! |

In any case, there are only so many people playing EVE, only so many of which are even in nullsec, only so many of which are involved in this war, and only so many of which are active for these fights, and only so many of which choose to participate. Just because we hit the limits each incremental increase doesn't mean we wouldn't ever reach a point where the system will be able to support more than we bring. I mean, it's already the case that the system supports many more players than most battles reach. These battles become famous because they hit those limits. My EVE Videos |

Learn to read man. You'll see many posts (across many sites not just here) where players are saying the same thing. Waiting 30mins for one command to be completed is no better than being stuck in warp and the system not loading. The people experiencing this all said they couldn't even log back into the game.
People were still "coming out of warp" into the wrecking ball well after the battle ended.
So no I'm sorry Tidi has done nothing to improve the game, frozen gameplay is just as bad as disconnections!. Past server upgrades etc are what has allowed more people into a system but allowing a 4000k limit when its unstable at 3k just defeats the object. |

It would be such a massive undertaking that it would require the entire development team to stop working on current EVE. They would lose a lot of subscribers over the years they would be doing this, it would cost a lot of money because they would of course have to keep paying wages and fees, and they would probably have to invest in new hardware to run the new code (since Tranquility is heavily optimized for single-core performance per node). To all you who are complaining, a lot of AAA games really have a hardcap of 64 players. 4000 players are pretty extreme and no other game seems to be able to cope with that many.
The code isn't not much of a problem, it's the hardware, even when using experimental overclockecked CPUs there is a cap.
Some says a multlithreaded setup up would raise the bars even higher, but at this point is pure speculation on how much it would really help.

True, EVE is the only game that can handle such high amounts of players at one area like this. It's surprising how it can even handle 4000 players without crashing or freezing in the first place. |

The code isn't not much of a problem, it's the hardware, even when using experimental overclockecked CPUs there is a cap.
Some says a multlithreaded setup up would raise the bars even higher, but at this point is pure speculation on how much it would really help.

Is it kind of joke about good job from CCP? 10% TiDi sure? Of course, fight was great for PL and N3 that jumped in HED system 8 hours!!! before timer came out. Jumping to the cyno in HED took me 1,5 hour of real time, 30% of jumped pilots could not make it finally to the destination system, either been stuck in the tunnel or killed being still in warp tunnel. We all wanted to have super capital fight but in the end had literally no fight, siege modules and guns at dreads did not activate (making them useless in such kind of engagements), portaling fleet took 1,5 hour, lots of crashing clients, real TiDi was not 10% but rather 1%. As the result it was not the fight we all wanted to have. Yes, well done CCP you make this game better from day to day

And before someone says "get faster processors" it should also be mentioned that we've pretty much reached the limit as far as single-core performance.
From here CCP has two options, one of which they're taking
The first approach is, as mentioned above, to completely rewrite all of EVE from the ground up, in a language other than Stackless Python, to exploit the powers of parallel computing. Some game mechanics would probably have to change for this to happen, invariably some bugs will get fixed while many, many more would be introduced, and it would be a massive undertaking for an extended period of time that would completely stagnate the game in the interim. This would also require them to essentially build an entirely new server, which would itself be an expensive undertaking.
The other approach, which CCP is taking, is to make extensive optimizations to various individual parts of the program. CCP's server load balancing algorithm, Brain in a Box, and other related projects are all a part of this effort. It requires significantly less programming effort, most likely won't introduce nearly as many new bugs (some are to be expected), and the CCP doesn't have to stop iterating on the actual game for this to happen.

Well, it kind of was a reverse of the battle of 6VDT. That time we bridged in way ahead of time, spreading jump-ins to reduce TiDi. Also, as far as I recall - and a dev could be so nice and tell us exactly, dispel the rumours once and for all - it's just the client that's written in stackless python.
Various things contribute to the server load but by far the worst of them is the Session Change. Session change (which, to my knowledge, updates your skill queue, implants, how your stuff affects your ship and guns...) occurs when switching systems. If we look at this battle for instance, by the looks of it what snapped the node (or brought it to near-halt) was 500 dreadnoughts jumping in, with the node already under heavy TiDi.
I guess, at this point while CCP works on mitigating the blob via sov mechanics, the only thing they can do is try to implement the "Brain in a box" concept mentioned during fanfest - and that's hardly an easy task. Is it Hotdrop O'Clock yet?

I am unsure of why people are blaming a lack of processing power on this. Local system optimization is most likely not the issue here. We have 4,000 people relaying commands to one server at once. The server must process all those commands, then distribute all 4,000 results to all 4,000 people at once. Maybe in 2050 we'll have technology (that's realistically priced) that can pull this off effectively. As for today, let's get real; not gonna happen.
Most obvious solution is as mentioned, to rework Sov mechanics. Find a way to give incentives to NOT escalate past 500 players per side. A similar system to incursions could work; giving large bonuses' to fleets that arrive with the "optimal size". Large groups like the CFC need to be able to form "superalliances" with eachother in order of this mechanic to work. In cases where more than 2 superalliances clash in a system, this mechanic would of course begin to fall apart as the numbers reach 1,500+ again. However for Superalliance vs. Superalliance, this could limit the system to 1,000 players thus providing a mostly playable atmosphere. I do not know how such an incentive system would work to truly promote this, but as a base idea this is the way to go IMO.

.*. A quick breakdown of how it went for me (and around 1000 others with me)
11.45 pm - Big Fight in HED - all caps get in fleet
45 mins to undock
sit on undock 1 hour (can't jump yet, tidi is so bad can't get cynos setup)
Message from ccp - server is shutting down in 15 mins to reinforce the node, (we haven't got to the fight yet)
Dock just before reset
Server reset; (good job there ccp, only took a few mins for server to go back up)
45 mins to log in (some took over 2 hours to get back in after node was reinforced)
Get back in fleet, Undock (not too bad only took 15 mins, with a little over 1200 in local)
Cynos up - carriers jump to X and dock. (fast jump no tidi here, yet. we just arrived)
20 mins later, fleet is in staging and ready to go.
Undock prepare to jump - we are going in, carriers light cynos when you land so dreads can jump.
3 hours later - no cyno lit - still sitting on undock.. I was told later cynos were being lit but the 300+ left in system could not see them.
Booted from server, can't log back in (go to bed, is now 5am)
IMO; current system can not handle these mass player battles to a point where the game is playable (not even close to fun) Solution; Create alternatives Might be somewhere to start *there could even be an objective attached to the outcome of this type of battle. ie; winner gets to take sov of 123-xyz,

Loraine Gess wrote: Okay here's the plan guys: We completely **** on all strategic advantages you've built for yourself while simultaneously making the ONLY way to win be 100% limited engagements which will invariably turn into mirror matches until one side gets enough wife aggro to stop playing for a week.
Do you have a better idea?? If it takes wife aggro to determine the outcome of a battle - that may be preferable to the current state of things. Plus if your going to get wife aggro for being involved in an arena fight (you die your out of the fight unless you go ready up and get into the support fleet) Are you not going to get it by sitting in a system in tidi for 10 or 12 hours?
When these fights are organised by the powers to be, both sides are well aware of the limits the servers will carry BUT still get as much in system as possible. Reasoning - if we have 1200 ships in here and grid loaded we have a far better chance of success. This is very true, problem is if A have 1200 ships in system B is going to bring 1500 or 2000 to increase their chance of success (server is in trouble here already) now A see they are outnumbered and may lose home field advantage (50 titans, 200 supers, 300 dreads and carriers, + subcap support ain't enough, we need more) so they call for reinforcements. Now we have over 4000 in a system (which in reality, with minimum Tidi, is designed for a maximum of 1000)
Outcome - many many disappointed players (some who think it is good, less who think it is ok, a LOT more who don't care either way because, "they were there")
***The arena can be any size, 1000k was just an example, it could be the size of a system. Even with a 1000k grid, if FC's can't come up with a strategy to fight on it, maybe they need new FC's. Most of these mega fights are within a few hundred k's, 1000k gives room for strategies.

No matter what CCP does and has done the players are screwing up by overloading, over blobbing.
Having said that you also can't blame the players, there is no honor in EvE, if party A decides they will not overload and only bring 500 party b will bring 2500. If party a doesn't exploit a cap, party b will exploit the cap.
Any player who tries to help not feck the system will be wiped out by those who do feck it.
The only workable cap based system might be a CCP and player honor system where party a and party b advises CCP of a fight, CCP reinforces the node, players register there fleets FCs with CCP, in the order of which they want them introduced into battle and CCP filters those fleets in based on load and ratio of sides. But it's pretty gamey. |

The capping suggestion has merit...
Not a hard cap, but a points based cap could work. The code is already tried & tested (alliance tournaments)
Scale it up for system-wide, that the nodes can handle. Then we still get decent fights that have greater emphasis on strategy rather than numbers with little to no lag.

Really anyone who thinks this sort of thing is to be applauded is just prolonging the time it takes CCP to actively do something worthwhile on the subject. FFS IT's how this game is MEANT to be played in its core design Problem is, when the "core design" was drawn, CCP probably didn't even envision 4k clients being connected to the same node as something that would ever happen. 640K of RAM ought to be enough for everybody.
And who said that?
Christopher Lloyd! Create a new, pretty, female character! Make the name count! Join the epic boo bees! (RP,PvE/PvP,wardecs,new players!) You're at it from day 0! |

My hat is definitely off to CCP. Eve is literally the only game where we can do this with stability. I'm patient, I can deal with TiDi easily.
You know as well as I do that despite 10% tidi it was not stable. It was actually stable. Module lag != Unstable. Your commands go through .. hence being stable. You have obviously never fought battles pre-TIDI. Of course it was stable, the below quote indicates that well. Quote:Infinity Ziona Yeah your dreads were dying before they loaded in... Being shot off the field before loading in is EXACTLY how it should be Is that a lag indicator? Not to mention right after that observation my computer froze, had to be rebooted and I was unable to log back in at all. Then after logging in on an alt something usurped my alts connection 10 minutes later so I assume she logged in lol. So basically it was still processing stuff for characters who were not even logged in anymore. Not stable at all :) |

The abse of EVE was craeted around 2001, back then, Intel Expected the Pentium 4 to reach 10 GHz instead of the actual wall they hit at 3,8. 6k player would probably be possible if the industry didn't **** up it's prediction. Do you think CCP should of known better at that point and realize back then the code would need to be threaded because we would reach a point where a single system on a single node would completely kill a not even released yet (at the time of course)?
Shitting over CCP is all fun and game but in the end, no-one at the time though the GHz race would crap itself that hard forcing the industry to take a sharp turn in how it would evolve. Whoever built an app at that time by looking at what the future looked like it would be got their ass bitten HARD. |

Really anyone who thinks this sort of thing is to be applauded is just prolonging the time it takes CCP to actively do something worthwhile on the subject. So treat it like a crash when it happens. Better yet, if you hate it so much that you'd rather the game crash, don't get involved with the fights to begin with.
TIDI is to be applauded because it made significantly larger battles even remotely possible. CCP have never said it was the be-all, end-all, they've simply said that it's the best possible solution as things currently exist. Ransoms are accepted in Isk, Ships, Mods, and Dolls. |

I have an idea. leave nullsec, go to WH space. That way, your fights are limited by mass, not the ability to cyno ships at once. The only downside is that you can't anchor your epeen to claim sov. This is as nice as I get. |

I wonder how many null sec blobbers have actually spent significant time living out of a POS in a wormhole pocket. If they did, I believe they would have a very different view on how "difficult" null sec is. Most people viewed Orwell's writings as a warning. The harper regime and the goons treat them as a guidebook. |
