Yeah, after the patch, I try to log in and successfully connect but never make it to character select. Get a black screen and it just sits there. I have to end task to get out. Any ideas?
I cleared the cache including prefs.ini

I have the same problem only it gets black before I get to chose character but after login sequence

I believe you have restated my exact problem. Let me ask you did you patch from the web? Or did you download the patch through the client?

I downloaded it from the web during the downtime. Now I try reinstalling. Coming back with the results if it works

it did it to me too.
here's what I did (no idea if this fixed it, or it if was just random but I'm in now.
on the black screen I could still see the mouse cursor change when I hovered where the char faces should be.
I selected a char and let it run for a while (almost 2 min) then it faded in my ship floaring in space. none of the other stuff was visable, no controls, or other windows.... I pressed esc just a blank screen, and I could press esc again to get back into the game....
alt tab out and right click the task on the base bar, and pick close. it pops back up and seems to wait a few seconds, then it closed.
then I just loaded the game again, and all seemes fine after that.
I have no idea if this will fix anything, it's just exactly what I did and in what order when mine started working. Give it a try, it just might solve your bug. But don't shoot me if this dosn't help :)

Did your mouse change icons when you had it hovering over where the char was suposed to be?

No, result yet... I tried pressing different parts of the screen. Nothing happened. Still reinstalling atm

Oops now i see in your first post it did.... Anyways my mouse cursor isnt switching. Im 85% done downloading the cd to 1066 patch now after 3 minutes. God bless broadband. Ill let you know if my reinstal and repatch fromthe client does the trick

P4-2.8 512 Ram
Nvidia GFx5900 (downloading latest drivers now to be sure)
I dont remember motherborad particulars and i dont think it matters but its at most 2 months old.
Some generic sound card built into the Mboard
Thats about it.
I lost my manual can some1 ***** theirs open and look for hte support phonen umber for me?

Support has no clue what is going on. Get this, they told me to wait 14 hours until the patch file is posted on the web and try downloading the patch and applying it manually.
I mean come on! Is that a canned answer or what? The patch file was posted on the web before the server wsa even up. What a joke.

Add yet another to the growing list..
If it's any help, I *was* able to get in after deleting my cache, then editing my prefs.ini file. Unfortunatately, about 5 mins into playing, I lost my Chat. I thought it may be a result of my switching to windowed mode, and relogged. Now, I'm back to the black screen and the aforementioned changes aren't working this time.
I also downloaded the patch locally and installed. Also, when I lost the chat window, I attempted to open the channels folder and open the help chat, but the channels folder was empty when I did, and unfortunately my attempts at creating a help channel didn't work.
Well, I guess it's back to <insert other game here> until a resolution is found.

Hi guy's, havnt got alot of help to offer, but just to let you no there are more of us out there, im in the same boat as well, exactly the same thing, screen go's black after login screen :/ hope someone help's us soon eh :/

Hi guys! I got mine fixed: Here is what I did perhaps it will work for you.
I used my old copy of eve before the reinstal. My old copy had been manually patched on the web. I loaded it, logged in, and then got a blackscren before char select. I then let it sit there and went to read a book.
At some point it got a CTD on its own. I tried to login after that and all is well. I can even relog now with no problem. goood luck to you

I tried doing what you did Othnark but it still hangs for me and it stays blank. This is getting really annoying now.

Actually I managed to get too... though with heavy lag. I tried to log on, clicked on the black screen like crazy, alt-tab, ctrl-alt-del a couple of times. Until it crashed and then I could log on. 
But I still think it's bad that it happened... I hope they come out with a fix.
PS I also use a geforcefx 5600 ultra... Maybe thats something? DS

This is totally wack, I can't access my characters and nothing seems to be working. I have a gfx5900 ultra and it was working BEFORE this damn patch.

I also see that they have stated 1216 as the newest build, but every patch is only 1215... just a thought. Though it seems that most of the people having trouble are using GF FX 5600. Or?
By the way, mines broken again... atleast I got to fix some things before crash.
