You should charge for the auction like ebay so there is some incentive not for scamming. I dont know how this could be done but I would love to have a broker fee soo I know people can trust my auctions.
The item gets given to the person over escrow lol
Oh, and some possible improvements, if you don't have them planned already. If we've posted an auction, we should be able to update the description if theres new information. ie; Auctioned ship, don't mention anything about moving it somewhere, think about it later and then add it in that you will ship it to any of the major empire trade hubs. No... I wanted to make the site useable both from IG (in-game) and OOG (out-of-game). You *have* to be in-game to register; but after you register you can use your username and login to login to EVEbay from any browser, and you can carry out all normal operations (bid, list auctions, etc.). Of course you *can* do it from IG, too -- but you aren't forced to if you don't want to. The only time that you absolutely must be using the IGB is for user registration.

Well, feedback will contribute to this a little -- if you build a fair number of 'Yep, successful' auctions; then that gives you a certain credibility (more than someone with NO successful auctions, at least).
Escrow is used to complete the transaction, so there isn't much risk of being completely ripped off by a scam (presuming you check the escrow before claiming it)... I'd like there to be more integration such that I could guarantee that the auction would go through and be completed successfully; but I am not sure how I could undertake it. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

I had thought about this JamesTalon, but I decided against it to prevent sellers from changing any possible conditions on the auction after it is underway (i.e. seller lists something, someone bids, and then suddenly a condition like delivery, etc. is changed out from under them).
What I could do is allow the appending of comments to it -- so you get an initial comment, but you can go back and add another and another; though you don't have the ability to edit/delete previous ones. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

True. Never thought about the downside there. Although being able to add on something would probably work better. EVEBay

I remember the first eve-auction site. That never took off.
This one seems more polished though, and i wish you all the best with it.
The addition of comments thing is a good idea, and i think a sniper rule setup thing is also needed. apart from that, good luck!
(and sticky ftw - the mods consider stickying something you you email them apparently. /me emails mods)

I hope it survives. I got my Augoror on there, and its something I just need to get rid of. Built it over a month ago. The other one sold find, but this one just will not find an owner... That and over 40K thunderbolt heavies. EVEBay

I'll add the comments to my list of things to do -- it has grown greatly over the past day (although I always expected that it would I guess ). Right now my focus is going to be on refining the site more and fixing the bug that has been demonstrated; and then I'll work on adding more functionality in. I'll post in this thread when it is updated; though I think it would be good to have a 'News'/'Changes' page on EVEbay too, that summarized the changes (i.e. a Changelog).
Thanks for all your well-wishing and comments and keep the comments and suggestions coming if you have them! I'm going to work hard on making EVEbay a success, and I'm not nearly smart enough to think of all of the ways that I can improve it by myself... the more brains/eyes the better.
Of course I'd appreciate any word-of-mouth spreading that you do, too.
Thanks everyone. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

My apologies to those of you who were bitten by the "item not browseable" bug -- it has found a final resolution now, though -- and the auctions that you are put up are visible and filed in the correct location(s) now. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

Nice work as other have said hope this catches on.
Is it possible to list more than 4 items per page when viewed though the IGB or a custom setting via preferences ?

I could make it a setting -- or could raise the default above 4, but honestly I don't know if I would suggest it. The IGB is very slow often... and rendering the page might kill it even worse. Here's hoping that CCP corrects the issue soon, so that I can put the IGB per page setting the same as the OOGB per page setting (20).
For now I could make it a setting, though, yes (and just default it to 4). I will make a note of it, Freek. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

I'm bumping this because it's too awsome an idea to fall off the front page. Way better then browsing thru this forum. Crap, CCP, just replace this forum with a link to EvEbay!

Edited by: Gary Forthy on 19/04/2006 06:48:38 I must say that I love this site :P I will for sure use it to sell my products.
And for the scam/if you can be trusted issue, I belive that commenting on buyers/sellers can solve that, but one issue with one of the previous auction sites were that anyone could post a comment, and someone went and posted bad comments on everyone :(
Restricting commenting to the winner to comment on the seller and seller on the buyer would be nice.
Also, adding extra info to the description would be helpfull as well as making it possibe to have a "shown" reserve (as that is what I'd like to add to my description) ;)
As for a small bug: I set bid increases to 10mill on my freighter, but it seems to have been reset to 1 isk for some reason.
Edit: Oh and sticky would be nice :P

This is the case -- you can only mark a transaction paired with a person as "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory", you can't just give someone bad marks without an auction (a completed one) with them.

I never thought of having a 'shown' reserve. Should be easy enough to add. I will add the option to my list.

This should be fixed now, Gary -- it was a bug with the way that highest bid was calculated; should be at 10m now (for any further highest-bid calculations, anyway).
Thanks for the feedback! -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

This has been done Gary; and I've gone back and made the reserve on your auction shown as that's what you'd like. It defaults to a hidden reserve though. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

Right now that isn't possible Lest; because EVEbay is centered around integration with EVE's market database export. I'll put it on the list for the future -- but it's a fairly big request, so I cannot guarantee when it'll be done. -- Sorai Carbide Industries --

Thank you :)
Also, just my two cents on character auctions; I kinda like how EVEbay gives you a feel of being in an ingame market, and being able to buy characters kinda ruins that a bit I think. Gary ------------------- Do it once! And make it count!
