I'm a little lost. It's a great idea and site, i just don't get the bit about entering your max bid. Surely one of the main points of auctions is you try and get things for a slightly cheaper price than normal, if you automatically enter your highest bid then all the next person has to do is continue entering numbers until it stops updating.
Can you enlighten me as to how this system is better than a more usual 'bid then outbid' system?

sgb
The system bids for you, sgb -- it's called proxy bidding. eBay has a help page on it here. The idea is that it bids only as much of your maximum as it needs to in order to ensure that you win the auction (only up to your maximum, however).
You are absolutely right, someone can bid and bid and bid to find out your maximum, upping it by a little each time -- the gotcha being that when they actually find your maximum they will suddenly be the high-bidder, not you -- in effect, they just outbid you. At which point you can return and bid on it again, if you want (though it isn't suggested by eBay that you work in that way).
I guess the gist of it is that yes people can find out your maximum -- but only after they have beaten it... at which point it doesn't really matter if they know your maximum or not; as the important number for an auction is the highest bidders maximum... and they are the new highest bidder, having just outbid you to take the lead.
Note, however, sgb, that if you are more comfortable with bidding the "usual" way, feel free to do so -- enter bids at the minimum bid increment until you take the lead; but be aware that if someone actually has proxy-bid, then often your bids will automatically be outbid by the proxy bidder. Still, it's an option! -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

It is now possible for sellers to cancel an auction if they make a mistake during it's creation if, and only if there has been no activity on the auction -- the moment an auction has received a bid or been bought out; it cannot be cancelled anymore.
Please, sellers, verify that you mean to be doing what you are doing before you confirm on the final auction creation page. Once it is listed; people can immediately bid on it -- and maybe they'll be faster to bid than you will be to cancel.
However, if you make a mistake and absolutely must cancel something; the functionality is there -- until someone bids on or buys out your auction. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

Just an idea, but would it be possible to change the section where you state what system the item will be located in and make it something like "Hi Sec system in The Forge" or "Low sec system in Khanid" or something like that.
Reason why I'm suggesting it is for protection from in game suiciders camping systems/stations where the BPO's are?
Just a thought..

I've also had requests for bookmarks, and characters. The sticky bit with the requests for GTC, bookmarks, and characters are that they aren't part of the CCP data export and don't fit very well into the market. I'm considering options on integrating them, though... it's on my list.

Hmmm I really didn't think of that. I was going to go in tonight and choose the ability to set the "sell location" as a system without a station (which is necessary for auctioning items at places like ISS Marginis, which are not in CCP's station database)... what I could do is *also* add the ability to choose a region as the source of the auction. Obviously I wouldn't be able to have a security rating like I do now, but that could be attached to the auction in the little "Seller Commentary" area. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

I'd like a way to hurt people who buy out your auction and then don't claim it on escrow. Gonna give this guy the full 7 days though, then I'm re-auctioning it. EVEBay

Would like to see a direct link to the item that is being auctioned, it may well be there but I cant find it. Also, a way of sorting auctions would be good, ie. by ending time/date, starting time/date etc or even by start bid. One other thing I would like, is rather than entering the no of days for the auction to run, I would prefer to put in the end time of the auction. Other than that, I think this is actually great and really hope it catches on properly.

I assume this is targetted at the bidder who will bump the amount little by little until they win?
I really don't see the harm in that, Jude. If they bump it by minimum bid each time, eventually they'll take the lead -- and they'll be trivial to outbid. Whereas if people have bidding wars, this could easily cut it to a sharp halt when one of them is completely unable to continue because of this "hard limit". This kind of rule would also serve to push people towards alt bidding, which would be a trivial way to get around this if they wanted to continue bidding and had hit the 5 bids/person.
Please feel free to challenge me on that; but to my mind imposing a hard limit on the number of bids a single toon can place on an auction will do more harm than good.

If you are browsing in the IGB, click on the picture of the item and you will get the normal "full information" in-game popup. Currently there is no answer to this in OOGB... but eventually the plan is for the same method (i.e. click on the icon/picture of the item) to work OOG as well as it does IG.
On my list for implementation is the ability to sort auctions by every column presented on the list of auctions; I believe this would answer the majority of your second request.
The third item (giving an end time rather than a duration)... that's certainly do-able, but involves adding another step to auction creation (to confirm the auction end time). I will add it to my list!
Thanks Jude, JamesTalon, Pegasus and Bedrock! Hope you are doing well Bedrock.

There were some T2 missile BPOs that were in the market group 'propulsion'.

i'm not sure if anyone said this yet or if it's legal, but you might want to buy alot of frigs and put them up on auction. than spam jita. this isn't to make money, but for something for new players to buy and maybe they'll come back in the future. with some luck, they're recommend it to others. the first few months is where it's decided whether or not this site lives or dies.
not sure if i can advertise this but i like it.

Very nice site Sorai ;)
1 suggestion, would it be possible to browse old finished auctions, so as to get an idea what a particular item has been selling for in the past. Would be useful for setting up your own auctions or knowing how much to bid on an item.

3 things that I think might be useful :
* An easy way of seeing whether it's a BPO or a BPC that's being sold * An easy way of seeing ME, PE, and the amount of runs left without having to click on the info (which isn't available out of game anyway) * A way of doing insta-sells (start bid is same as buyout) and put some kind of insta-sell marker on those (this may not be what you want, but I think it might be a good way of getting more ppl to use the site since it can be a way of evading taxes etc)
Looks good so far

The buyout marker could be an option. The thing that gets me is people who have start bids of 20mill, and a reserve of 900mill, or something like that. If your not going to sell it unless you get that amount, then start the bid at that amount. EVEBay

BPO/BPC is a little bit of a sticky wicket; because the CCP item database doesn't really make a delineation between the two. I have to come up with a very nice and sane way to "add" information to the CCP item data itself for item types that require it (BPOs/BPCs are a great example of this, with a listing of whether they are a BPO or a BPC; and their ME/PE). I will work on it; thanks Shiipo.
Insta-sells are a good idea too and it's been something that I've been chipping away on lately but is a bit of a larger job so might take longer to come to fruition. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

Viewing bids is planned for the seller of an auction (only after auction completion). It hasn't been implemented yet, but it is on the list for implementation.
The searching of old auctions seems to be a very popular request; so that will be tonights job I think. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

OK, tonights changes:
- Now when browsing auctions you can choose to browse either 'Current' or 'Completed' auctions (and all search functionality is there for 'Completed' as well as 'Current' auctions). Easy price checks galore!
 - Search results are now paged using your default "number of auctions to show per page".
- When creating new auctions and searching for the item to auction, the search is now a full-text search (it used to search only the prefix) -- i.e. it used to be that searching for 'damsel' would not find 'The Damsel' (although searching for 'The Da' would find her). Now it is full-text search, so 'Damsel' will find her. If you find you are getting too many results this way, please enter a more specific search term to find the item that you are looking for.
- My EVEbay navigation has been updated to be similar to the way that the auction browsing works. If this is difficult for you to follow, please let me know and I can work something else out. Navigation with such a limited set of functionality is sometimes rather difficult.
The 'New Auction' link has moved, so that it is under 'My Auctions' -> 'Create New'.
Thanks everyone! -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

Edited by: Sorai on 27/04/2006 01:01:45 I have started a thread in the Price Checks forum explaining how to do a price check on EVEbay. Hopefully someone finds it useful.
Bumping isn't allowed in that forum unfortunately, so the announcement will fall off of the page quite quickly -- I'm a little nervous to ask the mods for a sticky in that forum, too, though, so I'll just hope that someone sees it and finds some use out of it before it falls off. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

Nice site :)
I wonder... When you log in IG - you get the account name, or only the character name?
Either way... Perhaps make a buttom named "report unserious seller/buyer". First/x number of reports/votes := blocked from site and unable to use it both to sell or buy from?
And... Add 1-5% tax on every sale above... 500 mill or so? To get some isk back for all the work you've put into it? Would limit it around 500 mill at least - collecting all the "petty" isk is too much work :=)

Thanks, Trading Jones. :) Always open to suggestions to improve it though!
When an IGB browser visits the site and grants the site "trusted status"; I get toon name, but not account name.
Feedback is already in the site; however you must be involved in a completed auction with someone before you are able to add positive/neutral/negative feedback for them. This is so that no-one can just give out good (or bad) feedback willy-nilly for no reason. I understand that was a problem on one of the prior EVE auction sites, so I wish to protect from it. Thus the requirement: you need to have a completed auction w/the person that you are trying to leave feedback for in order for that feedback to affect their +/neutral/- rating; and you can only adjust it (their rating) +1/0/-1 for each auction (so you can't leave 10 positive or negative feedback from a single auction). Feedback only means something if it can more or less be trusted.
As to locking out people with low ratings -- that might happen eventually; but I hope to make it more granular. Sellers with low feedback you don't have to worry about, because anyone can see the sellers feedback before they bid -- so if someone has -10 feedback; don't bid on their auction and they won't bother you. For sellers there may eventually be an option when creating an auction that says "Minimum toon rating to bid on this auction: " and then only people whose feedback rating meets or exceeds that number will be able to bid on the auction -- that way sellers can protect themselves from unknown/negative bidders. However, I want to proceed carefully and haven't had reports of egregious abuses thus far. Slow and steady, that's the way... particularly with important things like feedback.
As to the sales tax... thanks for the thought, but I don't really want to make ISK from EVEbay. I'm just trying to make shopping in EVE better... already I've secured myself a few things that I had been looking for; so that can be my "pay" for building it -- I didn't have to slog through escrow (or the forums) looking for them. 'sides, I like working on EVEbay, for the most part! -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --

For today's feature-of-the-day I added a "Check here to keep me logged in." checkbox that you can use from any normal browser to keep your login active for a month (if you don't want to keep logging in over and over). Purely a convenience thing.
Just check the box on login (and allow cookies...) and your login is saved for that computer (across browser restarts/computer restarts/etc.) for a month. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay. --
