dear diary,
There was a loot piniata raven that thought he was playing wow and "fitted his purple gear".
He proceeded to lose it to a suicide gank.
Later he got scammed for a second raven after he bought plex worth 1300 dollars again.
1. Wow that someone would invest 2600 dollars in an internet spaceship game where "dead is dead" 2. Well done to the gankers 3. Does the disclaimer/game warn about the perma death situation in eve. 4. Is there a disclaimer that informs new players that eve is about as trustworth as a somali pirate hooker. 5. Are there really people that would trust a stranger with 1300 dollars in ingame goods?
Has eve changed how we see the world and look at things? Yesterday I loled at the raven fit and the kill mail. Today I read the artikel and was surprised by the naivitee of the individual and the lack of knowledge of critical game mechanics. A few hours later i felt bad for the guy. My ingame character couldn;t care less ans is jealous of the scum and villany denizens that pulled of the gank and the scam. But my rl self is troubled by this thing.
We are not talking about 100 bucks here but 2600 dollars total. The isk was not created ingame but bought. Am I alone in having mixed feelings about this because of the large amount of RL cash involved?

There was no RL money involved with either player interaction, guy wanted a shortcut so he bought a load of tokens then lost those tokens by not understanding the game at all. No different that pumping a bunch of money into an arcade machine (if people still remember those) and wiping on the first screen because you suck.
I'm not about to pity some dude who has a couple of grand to drop thoughtlessly on a game without doing a single bit of research but I do thank him for paying my subscription. |

You lucky, lucky bastard.
Also.........
People lose money gambling all the time.
Sounds like this idiot likes to gamble with internet spaceships instead of in a casino.
Net result was about the same....... Everything in EVE is a trap. And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Also, a nice couple of RL threats on top of it. One would guess a RL lawyer would know better (not to mention proper grammar).... Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20.

That was what I was thinking did this person follow the tutorial informing him of how evil eve is. Is there even a tutorial explaining this? I have not seen the tutorial voor the nooblets.
Then a gain dont let my corp see this cause my usual answer is "google it". Maybe someone should post a big screen with GOOGLE **** before you play eve:) |

In terms of the money spent, there's slight sympathy.
In terms of his RL threats, mocking of Angry Mustache, inability to learn from his mistake, inability to learn what EVE is before or AFTER being shown what EVE is, and then voluntarily giving away his replacement ship without googling "eve scams", and generally being a massive dickhead. Nope, not even a tiny bit.
I await his forum thread demanding CCP nerfs the game to suit him. |

There's a major problem because CCP allows to convert money into ISK by PLEX or GTC. I don't think that an EULA of a gaming developer can defy general laws that someone's money can be taken by another one in a legit way. This means we have an exeptional situation when someone is using the mechanics to convert money to ISK. I know that many people don't want to hear that new people or people not knowing much about EVE will get too much information about the mechanics or bad things what might happen to them. But in my optinion there has to be a clear warning when people transfer money into the game by PLEX or GTC that they might risk to lose this money by losing stuff like getting killed even in hi-sec or getting scammed. With PLEX and their EULA CCP allows people to steal money in this case. If there wouldn't be a method to convert money into ISK they steal your time only. What finally means for sure: no noob will fly a 60 bil ship from the beginning or within the first years if he's not a hardcore Sanctum farmer in null-sec. And this would make a huge difference because when former noobs are flying a 60 bil ship some day they should be aware about the different faces of EVE. If not. Their problem. |

Well its a good think that ISK isn't money then. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

Finally it's ISK but it's a difference if the source was time for the gameplay or just money. You simply can't fly a 60 bil ship as a beginner if you have to make ISK ingame. You will learn EVE by the normal way with some hard lessons and that a 60 bil ship is totally senseless to fly for missions in hi-sec. At the end you might learn that joining a null-sec corp will open you some fast ways to make billions in a few days or weeks in a simple t2 fitted Ishtar. It doesn't matter here that it's insane to invest $2600 in a spaceship game. Fact is that CCP doesn't warn these people that they will risk their money doing it this way and inform them about the usual mechanics like getting ganked or scammed. I am pretty sure that this is an interesting case for a lawyer. |

Crazy dude decides to spend 3,000$ for a few pixels on a screen. RL and its laws end exactly here: CCP offered him pixels, he paid and got the pixels.
He didn't RISK his money in any way. He SPENT his money. His money is now gone FOREVER, because re-converting pixels back to $ is not allowed.
Later, his pixels interacted with other pixels in a game called EVE. They did exactly what they were supposed to do.
If his pixels had failed to properly interact with other pixels, he could have asked for a reimbursment I guess.
But they sure did interact, right? |

In no event shall CCP, its affiliates, licensors or suppliers be liable to you or to any third party for any special, indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages (including without limitation, lost profits or lost data), arising out of or in connection with your Account, the System, Software, Game, Game Content, User Content, EULA, or any other services or materials provided in connection therewith, whether based on warranty, contract, tort or any other legal theory, and whether or not CCP is advised of the possibility of such damages, and even if any stated remedy fails of its essential purpose.
That, and:
You shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless CCP and its affiliates, licensors and suppliers, and their respective employees, contractors, officers and directors, from any and all claims, loss, damages and demands, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of: (i) your use or misuse of the Software; (ii) your access to the System; (iii) any activities conducted through your Account (whether by you or another person); and (iv) your playing of the Game. The risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built and we want to keep that (infact, this is much more representative of the consensus opinion within CCP). |

For anybody who is insane enough to spend that kind of RL cash on a game ought to be shot. I don't care if this guy who claims to be a lawyer even knew what this community all about. Certainly his grammar and sentence structure told me right away what kind of education he has and it's shows in the transcripts.
But HOW in the name of the Empress did this person get into the situation he gotten into?? Did he buy from the Character Bazaar and proceeded to get in the game or what was he trying to cover up something that he doesn't want to reveal about why he did what he did?? I am almost certain from telling about his conduct he's very much a question mark in my system and even mentioning he came from WoW makes it more interesting. And then to be scammed by of all people, somebody from the GSF.

Im pretty sure its not $3000 has to be nearer $5000 as he must have clearly bought his character from the bazaar. All with plex. Frankly this reminds of the news story from august 2013 about Kimmy boy over in north korea having his ex girlfriend executed by firing squad (as you do...). My very public reaction to this news was to loudly complain that I too wanted to be an evil dictator. Its not fair I tell you. Its just not fair...
Wasting $5k on a video game? some people have too much money. There are many people who have not lost these ships yet, just flying around afk and such. It's sickening, I know. That's why we need your help in making highsec a better place. True. You know what? For me, it's not about that he's basically a loot pi+¦ata. It's that he made irl threats, and expressed the willingness to carry them out.
That cannot be tolerated, not one little bit.

Mittens got a pretty hefty game ban for what he said, 30 days I believe. And people bring it up basically any time there is a discussion about him or involving him.
So, should it follow this guy any less?
Oh, and I wouldn't rage out if this happened to me. Firstly I'm not so vastly stupid as to fly ships fitted like that, and secondly I actually have a healthy disconnect between online and reality, so I don't rage over pixels. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

Yep. Because of the 2, he is the worse offender.
Mittens said "kill himself" instead of "quit the game" because he was drunk. If he had said "quit the game", he'd have been completely in the clear. He also publicly apologized, and emptied his wallet (which was pretty goddamn big since he's the King of Space) to the guy.
This new guy was sober, and expressed his intent to hunt someone down in real life, with no remorse or remittance. That is unacceptable. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

But remember, it's the toon that's getting a virtual beating, not the guy behind the keyboard.
OTOH, the guy behind the keyboard could actually profit and/or get some fun out of the temporary EVE-wide popularity of his toon!
Think scams or wardecs, for example. He just needs to either ally with a bunch of more experienced and creative EVE players, or sell them the toon for ISK. Then sit back, get some popcorn, and enjoy being on the good guys' side. |

I have to laugh when I see this stupidity. You can't cyberbully Jimblidge. Jimblidge is not a real person. Jimblidge is an avatar in a video game.
Is he being harassed online out of game? Are people posting his IRL info? *Then* it is cyberbullying. If anyone did any fail cyberbullying, it was Jimblidge with his threats he made. People here are only threatening to blow up his internet spaceships, not IRL violence.

You may disapprove of scams, but I'm sure we all agree that he would've lost that second RNI anyway. Here's where the dichotomy of me being a take-no-prisoners asshat, and giving new players a chance collide...
In-game I want to play aggressively and bend over other players whenever possible, without having to research or distinguish first if he is 'new'. That's simply not my job as a player of the piratic genre.
However, Jimblidge literally landed fresh off the boat from WoW and honestly didn't know he could be ganked in hisec, probably assuming being in 'HISEC' he was 100% safe. He shouldn't *be* safe, not what I'm saying -- but he should at least be TOLD in the new player tutorials implicitly that he is not safe in hisec.
In short, the failing here wasn't the gankers. It wasn't even 100% Jimblidge's. It was CCP"s, in not at least expectation-levelling with a new player that they CAN lose ships, get scammed, etc -- in CLEAR terms.
The real simple answer to all this isnt nerfs, its outlined here. After that, anything goes, and so should it.

I have no problem with the gank, scam et al -- what I do think is fair is a more clear risk acceptance every new player clicks "OK" to. i.e. Here are some nasty things that might happen to you, here are the '3 laws of capsuleers', do you accept them?
From a user interface, design and contract perspective -- I find peoples attention and focus only really comes into play when you ask them to sign or click "ACCEPT" on something...
After they do click that accept button however, its all good, and gankers should keep their lootz of course. Lets put it this way, I would rather a full-disclosure and acceptance tutorial for new players, than more f#ucking hisec nerfs to game mechanics...

The main thing the "Sue 'em/chargeback" crowd seems to forget is, CCP isn't directly selling ISK anywhere.
There are two exchanges going on. The first exchange is person to CCP, which is an exchange of RL currency for one or more in-game items that can be redeemed for game time, ARUM tokens, or multiple character training.
The second exchange is when person A sells those game items to person B for in-game currency.
CCP's liability and interest pretty much ends when they deliver the plex to account. At that point, CCP has completed it's obligation. What you do after that is entirely up to you. The risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built and we want to keep that (infact, this is much more representative of the consensus opinion within CCP). |

I agree that a more in-depth look at mechanics should be tutorialized. A brand new player is very much over his or her head, with almost zero explanation of actual game mechanics, completely reliant on the community for explanation. I am a bit torn on this, as I was able to figure it out myself, and social Darwinism may indeed apply here... but... I also think its important to welcome new blood into the game we all love. An example of how I was personally subject to this in my infant stages of the game:
Locator agents. Nowhere is this explained in any official fashion. When I was a carebear, wardecced by BU and its allies, I was under the impression that they were able to find me using the "Agent Locator".... I know, stupid, but again its not explained. Things like this need to be clear, simply in the interest of new player knowledge. So, should new players have trial by fire, only learning how the game is played on the off chance that a vet wants to actually help them? Or should they be subjected to a tutorialized handholding? Im tempted to agree with my friend from house Harkonnen that I would rather see the beginning easymode than any more game wide nerfs. Just my opinion. Killboard

I would like to see CCP develop a Character creation opening video, that get's played upon every new install:
Quote:EvE is a very complex sandbox universe, with many professions you can pursue: GÖª Start your empire mining raw materials from the asteroid belts and anomalies throughout the universe. GÖª Become the Manufacturing Industrialist, responsible for producing the ships and modules everyone flies. GÖª Become an expert in Trading, cornering entire ingame markets as a powerful business tycoon. GÖª Simply explore the universe, visiting the 1000's of systems, perhaps destroying NPC Pirates and looting their complexes. GÖª Or walk down a darker path as a pirate, looting or ransoming other players ships, perhaps attacking their industrial bases. GÖª Or build your own empire in Nullsec, teaming up with other players to bring huge portions of the universe under your domain. Ultimately, you choose your own path.
However, be aware, as these paths and professions are ripe with obstacles: Losing your assets means they are gone, forever, and you must then rebuild. Other players will attempt to take or destroy that which you achieve: GÖª Even in highsec, you are vulnerable to illegal attacks while flying in space. GÖª There are legal forms of attack too, from wardecs and duels, or if you commit a suspect or criminal action. GÖª There are scammers, that attempt to trick you out of isk and assets with false promises or too-good-to-be-true "deals". GÖª There are Spies and AWOXers that may infiltrate your trust and commit terrible acts of sabotage and theft. And if these miscreants succeed, they may profit from it at your expense. It is up to you to protect yourself, and trust is a dangerous commodity.
So, where do you wish to start? |

"CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

After that, anything goes, and so should it. Why do you think a CCP warning would have helped him? This is the guy that handed over a $1500 or whatever spaceship to a complete stranger after 10 minutes of conversation. Perhaps not this guy, perhaps not in that case...
But, might that up front knowledge about ganking in hisec have given him pause to put $1500 into his Navy Raven, perhaps. Might that up front disclaimer 'people will try to scam you...trust no one' have prevented the trade-window scam, perhaps.
Or perhaps not...
But...surely nerfs should be put at the 'front end' in the form of tutorial clarity, rather than on the 'back end' as actual in-game mechanic safety nets. The problem is see is that CCP is doing it on the back-end these days, with hisec mechanic nerfs. That heresy against HTFU must stop. If you need to protect tards like Jimblidge, do it through tutorial education and then call it a day...stop the nerfs.

The thing is, CCP do tell you of the dangers.
On the getting started page, http://www.eveonline.com/start Number 4: Getting started. "New Player Guide" link. Page 15 / Section 5. "5.3 SOME PLAYER JUST SHOT ME; IS THAT ALLOWED?" Page 22 / Section 7. "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?"
And then answers saying no, people can take your stuff from you without your consent.
It's on the username signup page, it's not like it's hidden 35 menus deep.
I appreciate it's a lot to read, but as with any MMO, you have to take responsibility for doing your own research, especially before dumping thosands of REAL MONEY into it. |

Nope, thus my quest to make Aura new player tutorial #1 "thou shalt die, even in hisec" with an "OK/ACCEPT" button, instead of CCP doing these nerfs on the back-end to hisec whenever a carebear splodes and files a petition...
A new player might clue in to a clear bleak tutorial warning with an accept button, but not so much dive through a 'guide'. IMHO.
Its clear Jimblidge didn't read the user guide, but what would he perhaps have done differently if he were told clearly "you can die in hisec without your consent to fight"? He said as much in his interview on the mittani. No gauruntee he would have gotten a clue at that point, but again better than back-end nerfs to game mechanics.

CCP shouldn't completely hold your hand through everything. They provide the resources, it's up to you whether you choose to read up or not. Besides, the client is going to take a while to install, you have time to read.
I think the tutorial has a few problems, but it shouldn't be a replacement to laziness.
Edit: Oh and about the constant highsec nerfs, yeah they're a right PITA. This pandering to stupidity / laziness / AFKness is frustrating. |

On another note, Attack Battleship (without ingame acronym jargon to avoid confusing the Original Poster) are not Black Ops Battleship. You have at least one more chance to get targetted, killed, destroyed, looted, abused, hunted, etc than in a covert version. For one thing, even if you got killed, it would have been more discreet.
Secondly, you would probably have 'Not' got killed.
It almost saved me 50% of my costs reading this.

Has eve changed how we see the world and look at things? Yesterday I loled at the raven fit and the kill mail. I wonder why so many people feel that trashing this guy in personal terms is just dandy but his rage-threat to get back at his gankers is not. Who cares whether you think this guy would be a good lawyer or not? You're just expelling gas anyway, what do you actually know about him? You want to judge him in terms of how his behavior in the game reflects on his actual real life self. But I thought there was no connection to be made that way? Gankers are actually decent joes in the world beyond Eve, isn't that what we're supposed to believe?
I wonder why so many people think this is any of their business; beginning with the article that focused attention on this incident and turned this guy's bad day into a public spectacle outside the game.
Otherwise this is the same old tired evil-is-the-new-good crap one expects from forum experts.
Great advertisement for the game here. You really think this kind of incident attracts floods of people to Eve? If that were really the case, this game would be a lot bigger than it is.
WoW gained 200,000 new players at the end of 2013, reportedly in a month, if what I read is correct. That's half this player base in a month. This game is indeed a niche game, and it's a nasty little niche.
I played The Elder Scrolls Online over the weekend and have been studying those forums to learn about the game and the people who might play it. So far, compared to the Eve forums, TESO players are model citizens, and their moderators lock down threads and hand out bans for the kinds of personal insults that are traded here.
I accepted Eve for what it is a while back, and I wouldn't suggest this game should become like TESO or WoW. But that's the game. When somebody's mistake gets reported on a news site, and when a significant portion of the player base starts to pile onto the fellow and administer vigilante punishment, there's something really nasty at work. That goes beyond the game.
The fact that he has an avatar means that trashing him and bullying him does not reach the person? That doesn't even make sense. And yet the same people are performing outrage that he made a rage-threat in the game?
If I were somebody looking to join a game and I read about this, I'd surely give this one a pass.
Now, back to avoiding the forums again. Every time I look at the behavior here, I have an incredibly strong urge to leave this game for good. Knowing there's a new game coming where I wouldn't have to think about ganking or take part in non-consensual pvp is pretty attractive after four and half years of association with players like the posters here. |

I don't think that an EULA of a gaming developer can defy general laws that someone's money can be taken by another one in a legit way. Well its a good think that ISK isn't money then. A case against whom? CCP? The Gankers? The Scammers?
Ask yourself this: Where did the ISK come from? A number of PLEX items. Does buying a PLEX give the buyer an x ammount of ISK? No. A PLEX gives the buyer the ability to transform it into a 30 day GTC, or sell it in the in game market for ISK. On either scenario, CCP complied with keeping the customer informed.
How does CCP not informing a player that Non-consensual PVP will happen grounds for someone filing a lawsuit because they just so happened to PLEX their way to purple gear?
And I won't even ask about The Gankers nor The Scammers, because it is well known that CCP endorses said behavior. |

This individual does not care for EVE Online as an environment and the people who populate it.
Because he does not care about EVE he makes one horrendous mistake after another. In fact, him not being interested in EVE is a guarantee that this kind of thing will happen to him. This guy is the equivalent of someone buying a judo kimono and a black belt, without have spent a day actually training for judo and then going out to challenge a SEAL team operator. He's going to win because he's got all the proper gear and the right colour belt so he must be good, right?
What I see is someone who came in unprepared and uninterested, and everything an experienced hand would expect to happen happened.
Should CCP tell new players that what they're doing in there has consequences and that losses are permanent? Yes they should and, they do. If you go through the tutorials, one of the missions is intended to sink in the idea that a loss is permanent.
This person did not have to do that. This person bought his way straight to... I don't know what he thought he was buying, to be honest. It is not a ticket to the end game. He does not understand what he's doing. He does not care about why you do what you do in there and what the consequence is. The famous cartoon and its significance is wholly lost on him.
Do we, as a community of pilots, have to serve this kind of player? I don't believe we do. His next question is to buy a super capital class or even a titan class ship, because those are supposed to be the best ones, right? He does not care for what it means to even get one of those ships and the serious effort required to obtain them. Or that you cannot possibly do this on your own. He is everything EVE Online does not need.
Of all the brutal and harsh lessons EVE metes out, this one by far is the most unforgiving one. And it was applied to precisely the right person. I do not wish to share the same space as someone who is going to threaten someone physically after losing a ship because he does not care enough about the environment to actually learn how it works.
I have to say though, after having lost one such ship, giving away an exact copy, with PLEX in the hold, was stupendous to read. But the 500 million ISK for fuel costs on top of all that... I humbly bow my head in awe and respect for the aching beauty with which this scam was executed. This is a new standard for scamming. It's going to be hard to do better than that. |

I think he's stubborn enough to do it. He's going to have to chew on losing a fair bit of cash for a while. After he's nursed his wounded ego long enough he might be inspired to come back and 'show us'.
What he is not going to do is be humble before the learning curve and find out where he made his mistakes and learn from them. That's EVE for you: a near-endless way to teach you the hard lessons.
-If- he should do it, he's going to compound his mistakes. Not by giving someone his ship though. I need to have that much faith in the common sense of humanity that he's not going to do that particular one twice.
This time he'll conclude he wasn't flying big enough ships, that was the whole mistake in the first place. So he'll install two clients, or find some other kind of multi-box setup. Then he's going to buy all shiny and new uber gear and bling his boat out like a pimp on Miami Beach.
The part of my personality I don't like to talk about wants him to build his new invincible super fleet and then show up in a system he's heard about. 6VDT-H, was it? The perfect place to go ratting.
It's not going to be for a while though. He got kicked in the teeth rather hard. The speed and the size of his disaster is just scary. This is the kind of personality that uses his wallet to get into the champagne room and then forgets that he's still not calling the shots.
CCP should give a prize for such a beautiful scam. It's more than deserved.
He should be given a special medal for the occasion and it should become the Medal of Honor of New Eden for the sheer size and quality of the scam perpetrated. It should be annotated, so that people know what it was awarded for. I'll pay the 5 million required to make the thing if that's what it takes. |

The failing here isn't just Raven-WoW-reject's alone....its a tutorial or new user intro that doesn't clearly demonstrate to every new EvE player that they can (and will)... be ganked be pirate-blapped when stepping into losec be trade scammed be tricked into entering a limited engagement with a pwnboat be awoxed be recruitment scammed etc... All of which can happen non-consensually, if they dont learn to protect themselvesThey should be told this up front, in clear terms. Hmm...blog post in there somewhere....
Because there isn't a big box that pops up when you first try and enter a low sec system warning you that your safety can't be guaranteed, or the in game tutorial doesn't tell you multiple times to fly what you can afford to lose, because you will lose ships. There also isn't recruitment scam warnings all over the MotD of the recruitment channel. AmIrite?
The game clearly warns you of danger when you first start out. What you choose to do with those warnings are entirely up to you...

T2s are better than purple for that reason.
I don't use T2 for that same reason.
(Except when the cost efficiency is better than the loot /enemy value ratio, which is most of the time. T2s are mostly more expensive anyways, and will not provide a way to destroy the enemy before being ganked.
They can be good versus NPC if there is enough security from groups, which I don't get.)
Most of the time while grouping, I get backstabbed (which means treason), or left for enemies to get killmail. It seems more organized to get me killed than other.
So, T2 are pretty useless to me unless I want to further fill pirates pocket without benefit. |

I don't think it will matter one iota.
There is a class of people who are simply oblivious to this kind of message. They will never read it. If they read it they won't care/believe/accept it. No matter what way you use to specifically say DO NOT DO THIS!!!! YOU WILL REGRET DOING THIS!!!, some people simply don't care.
I got podded in my first hour. It was a violent encounter. To be sure, the box had popped up, I was duly warned. I thought it wouldn't be that bad.
It actually was that bad.
He got me on the far side of the stargate.
At first I was shocked about the shaking screen, the booming noises. Then I found myself in a station. I wondered: why would anyone do this to someone? And it dawned on me: I'm new here. I'm in -their world- now. It is not my reality that has to prevail. The next thought was: I am -so- doing this! I didn't even wait out the trial period. I subbed after three days because I wanted to fly industrials.
Now I can say it's my world too. Some people will never get it. Some will see through that first Wowsers!!! experience and think of strategies to avoid defeat.
Others think they should just buy their way to the big time, not understanding that it means they still don't know how and why it works. I have no sympathy for them. If you're a '6-year-old character' and you fly a blinged out boat, and you ask me how to make a jet can I know exactly who I'm talking to.
And you know something? The next time I find a clown like that in there, I'm going to try and beat Angry_Moustache's record. |

You can trust a RL stranger with more you can in EVE..
The real world has rules and regulations, enforced by a police force and the public themselves. You have an identity and the cost of moving/ hiding this identity is high, resulting in a lower level of crime; except by hardened criminals.
If you asked a stranger to take a photo with your camera they probably would.
If you asked a stranger to take a photo with your camera in EVE, they probably would warp straight off with it in their cargo hold.

That CCP allows the purchase of enormous amounts of in game currency for real life cash, and then allows, and encourages a player base full of cyber crooks is starting to make me believe that CCP might actually be the best scammers in the game.
1.) They get all kinds of free marketing because of the 'huge' battles.... that are fought frame by agonizing frame
2.) This in turn creates a continual new player interest... at least some of whom can purchase in game currency by RMT
4.) And these New players or at least some of them will continually fall into traps laid by the scum and villainy that collects in EVE online.
Pretty genius when you think about it.

Nope. We are far better off without this guy. This guy wants to play in a big bouncy castle where nothing can hurt him. He wants uber leet gear that he does not understand the context or the purpose of. He -only- bought it because it was the right colour and it cost the most amount of money.
As far as scams go he was had in a particularly brutal fashion. But it was entirely in line with his attitude to the place. He does not care for EVE, he does not want to know it. He bought the toon that could fly the bling boat. What was he going to do in EVE? Make lots of demands for 'content' that he would be happy to pay a premium for.
This is the kind of douchenozzle who will demand the NEX is stuffed full of 'golden ammo'. This guy wants to pay to win. He actually did that.
Are you honestly saying this is the kind of character you want in there? Obnoxious, intolerant, impatient, incompetent and unwilling to learn and everybody has to support his play style. It doesn't matter that you were there 6, 8, 10 years, what he wants goes.
If CCP swapped out us for this kind of gamer, they'd probably make more money, but New Eden as a model for how sandbox MMOs work is done.
A fool and his money are soon parted. There is no more apt way to describe the situation. |

I am not sure you describe all eve players correctly though. Not everyone is an A-hole.
I for example might be a thad megalomanic, self delusional and beautiful. But I do not screw guys over or scam. Well unless you hate ecm pilots then you might consider I screw guys over.
Most noobs just need a mentor. I really started playing eve when I got involved with a can flipper years and years ago. Sure I only lost a kestrel in those pvp engegements but i got invited to the corp...and the rest is history.
This dude clearly did not meet someone coudl be his mentor and lost cash and got biomassed. Next time his friends talk of eve he will steer them clear. But yeah I hope he has plenty of RL cash cause 3k in my world goes a long way. |
