Edited by: Sales Merchant on 24/04/2006 13:12:24 Why not have a new feature in Kali that allows a CEO to (at creation of a corp or one time only) flag his corp as permanently non-PVP so they cannot be war dec'ed. Make the cost of this change 3 billion isk to prevent abuse and unable to change back.
When a corp is flagged as non-pvp it cannot be war deced but also no pilot of that corporation can use any stargate leading to any system below 0.5. So essentially if you want to be safe and free from pvp you are limited to 0.5 systems and above and have to pay a hefty fee to concord upfront.
I feel this will solve a lot of the pointless greifing random war decs that make so many players unhappy and leave the game. It will also allow players that choose to play the other non-pvp elements of EVE in peace.

Because EVE is a PvP game, if you get wardecced fight back and as for the 0.5 system thing, thats not gonna happen, its a bad idea and won't make it in-game.

Originally by: Sales Merchant Why not have a new feature in Kali that allows a CEO to (at creation of a corp or one time only) flag his corp as permanently non-PVP so they cannot be war dec'ed.
Because that would be a PvP switch and its a slippery slope. First the rectriction to high sec gets whittled away, then lowsec restriction then suddenly people can be "non pvp" mining crokite with no risk in 0.0. Its a slippery slope that has been demonstrated by more MMOGs than I can possibly count. It DOESNT work.
Originally by: Sales Merchant Make the cost of this change 3 billion isk to prevent abuse and unable to change back.
3 billion is not that much isk.
Originally by: Sales Merchant When a corp is flagged as non-pvp it cannot be war deced but also no pilot of that corporation can use any stargate leading to any system below 0.5.
That will get whittled away and that trick would be used to make unimpeachable mining alts that cna never be attacked. Main alliances couldnt war dec the major suppliers of their enemy and so on. It would destroy the game.
Originally by: Sales Merchant So essentially if you want to be safe and free from pvp you are limited to 0.5 systems and above and have to pay a hefty fee to concord upfront.
If you want to be safe from PvP you chose the wrong game. There are DOZENS of game out there where you are safe from pvp, I suggest you go play one of them instead.
Originally by: Sales Merchant I feel this will solve a lot of the pointless greifing random war decs that make so many players unhappy and leave the game.
Those people werent made for eve anyway. Eve is a thinking persons game, not the mind numbing butt in seat time of other MMOGs out there. Its a rich and deep game with pvp in economics as well as with ships. Its the single best game out there and Im sorry but I wont have people like you trying to ruin it. "Carebears" have ruined countless other games, dramatically with neocron and not so dramatically with others. In those other games pvp is a joke compared to Eve. There are lots of games out there, if this one doesnt suit you that is no crime but dont try to ruin this one too.
as for getting war deced, fight back, hire mercs to fight them for you. Use your money to buy strong arms to blow up your enemies and make it costly for them to mess with you and then they will leave you alone. You dont need a huge BS fleet to drive off a griefer corp.

PvP does not always mean combat, anything you do in eve will directly affect another player in some way, be that selling cheap things on the market or mining all the trit, if you don't wanna play with other people go play X3 :)

Eve online is a PVP base Space MMORPG. What they hell do you want to do ingame? Just sit mining and building and making loads of ISK and sell it on Ebay for real life money?
Tought, i honestly cant see this changing. If CCP brought this in i recon a good 50% if not more would leave the game. It seems that most MMORPGS are now non PVP or you have to go on PVP only servers.
Also, the 3bil ISK is unfair on smaller industrial corps, so nothing would change. It just means that the rich stay safe and the poor get ganked to kingdom come because of the smaller availabilty of targets. -----------------------------------------------

Why do some people (this is not aimed specicly at the above poster) refuse to beleive that there is more to EVE than PvP??
I don't agree with that the OP is suggesting but he does have a point that there should be some mechanism that would protect the Carebare community (and restrict them to being just that) from an element of the game they simply do not want to partisipate in.
PvP between a PvP char and a Trader is a no-brainer as to who would win, there are NPC's that would give a better fight.

What Does MM stand for in MMORPG? Massivly Multiplayer
That means more than one player, whcih means things are done against other players, which is what PvP stands for, Player VS Player, everything you do affects others on a different level so get used to it, if all you want to do is mine then go play X3 :)

You should shop around and see how much Merc power you can buy for that 3b... and how often are you Wardecced anyway? If it's lots, then you must be doing something wrong or annoying the wrong people.
I also do not think you've thought about the implications such a non-PvP option has on game mechanics... Can flagging, Eye-for-an-Eye, low sec access... _

Wrong thread, but no regardless.
To the OP: You don't speak for all, so don't say you do. I'm a carebear, I'm a miner and occasional industrialist. I sit in high sec empire mining, not really caring for what else happens. But, just because I don't like losing my ship doesn't mean I would even consider agreeing to something like this.
As others have already said, the only way to be perfectly safe from PvP is to NEVER leave a station, NEVER buy or sell stuff on the market, and if you can't do those, then stop playing. Thats how you avoid all PvP in this game. EVEBay

Edited by: Jaketh Ivanes on 24/04/2006 14:01:47 To the OP.
Quote: 1.10 What is basic game play like?
The diversity and flexibility of EVE makes it difficult to categorize it by conventional standards. What it is depends on the level at which it is played.
The game is set in an unknown portion of space, spanning thousands of solar systems, many of which are settled. Players begin by creating an in-game character equipped with a basic spaceship ready to explore the world. As they get acquainted with life in EVE, players can trade goods between systems or conduct other money-making ventures such as mining asteroids, transporting goods as a courier or even cleaning up debris for recycling. Financial gains made through such activities can be used to upgrade the ship with weapons and equipment and also to develop the character by purchasing skill packs used for training him or her in various skills he will need to advance in the world of EVE.
When a player has mastered the basics of the game, aquired some money and equipment and advanced his or her character through basic skills, the possibilities become almost endless. Players who wish to explore peaceful paths may continue to upgrade their ships to bigger and better cargo vessels with high-end defenses, purchase advanced mining or research equipment and continue to develop their characters by specializing in their preferred skills. Others may elect to pursue a more dangerous path such as piracy, smuggling or bounty hunting.
That section was taken from the FAQ. Now how can people be pirates, if they are not allowed to attack other players?
EDIT: Found an even better quote
Quote: 6.5 Are wars possible between corporations?
Most definitely. One of the main purposes of corporations is to allow formal wars to be fought over resources, trade routes, strategic systems or simple pride. Players belonging to a warring corporation may attack the opposition without impunity or loss of security status.

High sec space is broken up in parts by .4 and .3 systems therefor by being restricted to high sec you cut down ability to reach certain systems, not so good for business. As stated for 3 Billion ISK you can get yourself a heap load of protection so the money is better spent that way.
What's really missing here is a proper tie-in between player actions and the entire NPC element of the game. EVE space is supposedly controlled by 4 empires. So hypothetically if a Gallente player corp drives down the prices in a region in Gallente space bordering on Amarr space and an Amarr player corp war dec'd on the Gallente corp (which subsiquently is to be fought in Gallente space) then obviously there would be political ramifications. Potentially such a war between corps would quickly escalate to a full scale war between empires. However in EVE players interac in a bit of a vacum away from the main storyline. Hopefully the Faction Wars release will solve this issue.

im one of eve biggest and oldest carebears and even i think the op's idea is very very wrong..........you have clones and if you have 3bill you have obviously the isk to recover your losses which is inevitable in eve...if you get war decc'd go play another game for a week trust me they get bored very quickly when they have no easy sport but you have to allow pvp'ers their pound of flesh now and again even the empire rats who would have you beleive they are preparing you for 0.0

You could try to join an alliance, grow bigger as to discourage enemies, relocate or scatter as to be less of a target.
You could try to bribe the merc corp into fighting for you, or even for telling you who they work for.
You can dissolve the corp and recreate it under a different name. So many options...

I feel sorry for you, i really do.
But eve is self-policing. And if you make pvp immune corps then you remove that part of the game. Someone could go around scamming, smack talking, macro mining, etc. etc. and would never get the justice he deserves cause hes in a no-pvp corp. _______________________________________________ Deadspace For Dead space!

I think the OP refers to the practice of a large fighting Corp war declaring on a peaceful industrial corp.
IMHO, its much too easy for this too happen, and it only serves to greif the smaller carebear corp, and just makes it miserable for them. The large fighting corp gets lots of cool loot and lots of fun for very little expense.
War Decs should NEVER be taken out, and there should NEVER be any corps that can't be war deced.
However, the war dec rules could be changed so that greifing isn't as profitable. The fees of war decs could be scaled so that if the corp declaring is larger/more experienced than the corp being declared on. For example:
Corp A is a fighting Corp with 100 members Corp B is an industrial Corp with 10 members
Corp A declares war on Corp B. Because there are many more members, and its obvious that Corp B doesn't stand a chance, CONCORD would have a much bigger fee (200-500% more) for a war dec. This would discourage greifing because it's less profitable, but would still allow corps to stop their enemies suppliers at a great cost.
You could also base it on total skill points and many other variables.
The system doesn't need to be scrapped, it just needs to be adjusted.

Fine by me, as long as it prevents all PVP for the corp, so:
No war dec No buying or selling on market or escrow No Mining No Complex running
And to then prevent exploiting Transfers only allowed to characters/corps in other non-pvp corps. All possesions/isk removed if character leaves to a pvp allowed corp.
Basicly if you are happy that you cant perform any action where you come into competion with any other player (I.e. PVP) then by all means allow this flag.
Dray Carebear mission runner, who A) Only passes though 0 sec as a shortcut B) Thinks the risk of Bad Things(tm) happening is what makes the game intresting.

I'm sorry but such pvp is why you have a market in the first place. If you want to be completely carebear then don't leave the NPC corps, but EvE is a big bad universe. If you are worried about random pirate corps use some of that isk to pay for mercs. If you want to play a game in peace and love, play something else.

I wonder how many people forgot that you CAN kill people in high security space still.
And yes breathing air is PVP. The idea of PVP is literally "Player vs. Player" competition. You can apply it to anything as long as there is the competition =P
I definitely consider logging on at like...6 AM in the morning to MINE before all the other people do, a competitive action. Stay away from my kernite you stupid Minmatar.

EVE isn't PvP it's Everyone Vs. Everyone !!!
The OP is obviously uninformed. Could the few memebrs of the guilding hand present him with a basic outline for contractual agreement. I'm sure an engagement or two against the OP's enemies may distract them for a while.

Why not taking these 3 bio isk and invest it into a merc corp that give your war deccing enemy a run for good.
A well set, very experienced Merc Corp will simply crush your enemy...and then pay em more, to do it again....this will scare potential war deccers off.

Lets not chew the guys head off. He's talking about the issue of random wardec's made on corporations for no reason at all. For smaller starting corps, this tends to be a fairly significant issue (harassment).
Basically its a complaint about the present wardec system (which most of us can agree kinda blows)

With the 3 billion you're talking about why not just use that to pay merc corps to fight your battles for you?
Here's a fun 'what if'....
I have a distinct distaste for carebears, but what if 'they' were allowed to purchase 'protection' from CONCORD? Or some other NPC faction?
It would work like this: Say you want to mine in low sec for a few hours, or simply need an escourt for your convoy, you can hire CONCORD for some basic level protection to act as an escourt while you mine/travel. They would kill NPC's who attack you and also players for xx amount of time.
The downside is this promotes soloing and eliminates the need for merc corps alltogether and pretty much eliminates overall social interaction, so.... probably not a good idea after all. But there's all sorts of possibilities.

To the OP, great topic, I know your catching some heat but I think you make some good points and its a topic worth exploring. I don't agree with you at all, but none the less I think it helps the devs to understand their player base a bit and carebears regardless of what anyone says are a very large part of Eve Online.
There are already some great replies as to why exactly what your suggesting is a bad idea and I'm not going to elaborate on that. I do however have a couple of points that you should seriously consider about your style of gameplay, specifically your carebearasity.
First thing is first, anyone that says that Eve is not a PvP game is really not paying attention. If nothing else you should listen to the question and answer session from the Las Vegas party this year if you want to know whats really in the Developers heads. These guys are all hard core, old school (Ultimat Online), savage pirates. The Devs themselves have characters which they use to kill anyone they come across with. They designed this game to be the purest form of PvP allowing for a level of player vs. player competition on a scale never seen before in a MMOG. Their are more people getting killed in Eve on a daily then on Counter Strike servers. This is a PvP game. Period. Discussion over. The End..
If you can get your head around that (that Eve is a PvP game) then maybe you will finaly realize that if you don't like PvP, its possible Eve is simply not for you. Personally I think it would be kind of sad, because I do believe Eve is probobly one of the single greatest games ever made (and I'm including all classics), so you would be missing out on a lot. Have you ever considered simply joining in the fun?
I was like you when I first started and although I'm still not a hardcore PvPer, I made the connection early on that Eve Online is just not a carebear game. You can avoid PvP most of the time, but then I started to question why I'm always avoiding pvp, a whole new light bulb went on. I mean I'm a three month old character which makes me a noob, but here I am mining with 5 of my corp mates and we all scatter at the first sign of a Kessler frigate. Why? It was at this point that I realized that the five of us can kill a Frigate and so the next time someone like that crossed us we killed him. We realized that you don't have to fear pirates in this game. A 3 year old character is a walk in the park against 5 ships, even noobs. We kill vets all the day whats funny is that we make more friends that way then we ever imagined.
My point here is that you shouldn't run from PvP. You can avoid it if you like, but make a stand. Get your buddies together and get some pay back. Declare war on the people that attack you, form alliances ... There is a whole other side to the game that you can get involved. When you connect the dots like I did you will finaly realize what it is that the developers wanted and succesfully did create here. This is a living breathing world and just like the real world you can't just do one thing. You have to be open to new things and just like the real world if you try out new things you will probobly discover that there are a lot of fun things out there to do.
Put your flame suit on cause here it comes.
Stop being a wuss, grow some balls, outfit a ship for war and go kill somebody. Trust me you'll feel better, I know I did.

Look, you make money by mining. It suits you.
I make money by war deccing you, killing your ships, and selling your modules. That suits me.
Neither path is superior to the other. Each path is within the "freedom of choice" mechanism that is integral to the success of eve and it's attractiveness to so many diehard players.
Need help with what you mischaracterize as griefing? Hire someone to protect you OR train your own pilots from within to provide protection. The tools and game mechanics are there for you to solve your problem either way.

Just throwing out an idea here, not sure if it's any good or not, but what about a counter war dec ability? As I understand it, when you wardec someone you're paying 2mil a week or day or whatever for CONCORD basically to look the other way. How about the option for the recipiant to meet the offer and beat it, basically paying CONCORD to reject the declaration. The declaring war has two options: either target someone else, or beat the counter-offer with a higher offer of their own. And so forth. Gets into a bidding war.
I'll be the first to admit the idea isn't perfect, but just throwing it out for debate. ______________________________________________

It is people like the OP and other whiners that made SWG the garbage it is today.
If you dont like the game, don't play it.
There is a place in Eve for carebear PLAYERS not carebear CORPORATIONS.
If you are an industrial corp, then you make money. Hire mercs to protect you.
If you sell minerals and ships on the market, you are competing with others.
So you want to compete with others economically, but they can't compete with you militarily?
