Its not CCP's fault that nullsec is bad, its the players fault.
Just like Lowsec is, pirates kill people and laugh at them and tell them to go back to highsec.
A month later they complain that people aren't coming lowsec. They then whine and cry like little babies about how highsec and nullsec needs to be nerfed.
The same applies to nullsec, mindless blobs gank people that come in and tell them to go carebear in highsec.
A year later they complain that nullsec is dying and they need CCP to get more people in nullsec.
Please CCP, there is nothing wrong with Nullsec and there are plenty of isk and opportunities to become rich. It is the fault of the alliances and the people there that make it so.
Trying to fix nullsec and lowsec is trying to make someone quit drugs, its pretty much impossible. They won't change so no
matter what Nullsec will remain as it is.
There are plenty of people living in nullsec, nothing needs to be changed. |

Exactly. EVE is player driven. If the carebears in null-sec really wanted some action, they'd wardaec eachother.
Quote:Just like Lowsec is, pirates kill people and laugh at them and tell them to go back to highsec.
Or when null-sec players tell hi-sec players to "go play hello kitty". Maybe it's the people in null-sec who need to find a different game? They're the ones crying the loudest...

Yeah go figure. Abusers abuse people, and eventually their victims avoid them. Now the abusers are crying that there's a shortage of victims.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
If null-sec carebears want action, they need to nut up and declare war on eachother.

I see how Nullsec Alliances are depending upon CCP just like how US Automakers were depending on the US government to fix the problems that they themselves created.
They don't want to take responsibility that nullsec is the way it is because they made it so. They don't want to admit their faults.
They want CCP to spend time and resources to make things better so that they can continue to do what they do and not think about the consequences. |

Moon-mining is very lucrative and does not take much effort to extract. Where does the money go? It goes to the Alliance leaders. I doubt a single isk goes to the bottom.
Maybe you should stop being greedy and give some of the wealth to the underlings, if you want them to continue to fighting for you.

Move level 4's to low, nerf ISK/LP payouts in highsec incursions, make all things take large amounts of rare minerals to create (Even more) and make Sov suck less male chicken.
Really, everyone is so busy demanding they nerf Highsec that they forget nerfing is not the answer. "Man, you aren't actually trying to do this, right? Nobody is that stupid right?"

You can avoid them if you're really dedicated to doing so, or you can bypass them altogether by taking over a remote Sov and setting up some tight defensive perimeters.
It would be nice if nullsec wasn't instant death for the solo/small group player(s) though

The thing is, I don't think it's even about isk. Economics seems to be about isk on the surface, but what it boils down to deep is why people do what they do. (I knew an economist PHD who studied pollution. Why? Because he can.) Yes, sociology and psychology also attempt to describe the same things on a smaller scale, but only economics seems to ever get it right.
Why am I not a nullbear? Because it does not sound fun. If fun is the currency, supply is lowest in null, regardless of the material resources. Oddly, I'm betting the people who pay their mortgages with their dispro and tech moons, hordes of taxes and dues, and of course their bots, probably are also consuming the most nullsec fun as well. |

This is true.
I only bear around to prepare all my ISK and Hangar while I train moar compensation and BS skills.
I'm betting most ultimately do the same, because to be honest, mining/missioning or trading is really boring, the real fun is fighting others, even if it's a hopeless fight

The rash of nullsec threads on GD lately has started to disturb me. Why is this? Do the people who brought down the formerly semi-dangerous High Sec now have nullsec in their sights? Were people who got butthurt by Nullsec emboldened by the aforementioned High Sec risk-aversion squad? What's going on?
Coalitions and massive NAPfests are pretty lame, yes. But they're unavoidable. If Nullsec needs any change it's a change that boosts the ability of smaller groups to disrupt the cash flow that these coalitions are making in their otherwise relatively peaceful space. I'd support a change like that, yes, but not at the expense of everything else that makes Nullsec interesting like sovereignty and player-developed infrastructure. |

However, null and lowsec are not fine. I currently have most of my actual characters parked in highsec, yet I used to do lots of pvp, spent most of my time in 0.0 and lowsec and loved pvp, but as that's of no concern to this thread, I'll keep the reasons why I don't anymore to myself.

Break the larger alliances up to the point where anyone can throw a pos down in nullsec without them hunting it down within 24 hours, and more people might be interested in nullsec.
As it is, they aren't REALLY interested in fights so much as they are interested in slaughter. They blob everything, blue everyone and then wonder why more people aren't coming out to put themselves under their guns. |

Liked this post.
The OP pretty much hit it on the head. Go to low sec and lose a ship, many of the pirates tell you to stay in high sec (or next time, bring an expensive ship for them to kill!). Do this enough, and people become jaded to the idea of going through low sec.
Go to null sec, and the first bubble camp kills your ship, pods you, then sends you a letter telling you to stay in high sec (or next time, bring an expensive ship for them to kill!).
The problem may be some mechanics, but I don't believe it to be as massive as the attitude of the players. Many, like me, play to have fun. I stay in high sec with the occasional foray into low to bait a few pirates. I view high sec as a way to make money, as well as to PvP.
Tell me, what is PvP in this game? Currently, it is whoever bring the biggest blob. In null sec, this means whoever drops the most supercaps. In low, it's a combination of capitals and logistics, as well as willingness to pirate.
High sec is different. There, you can't GCC without CONCORD showing up and popping you. It limits the actions of the blob, because those blobs are ineffective. You're sure to be seen by competent players in neighboring systems, and because of this small gang tactics become much more effective.
Yes, logistics become an issue, but not fighting on a station usually limits the effectiveness. In high sec, tactics can be tried to honed.
Error-404 is a PvP corporation that specialized in small-gang PvP. We will never have the numbers to go toe-to-toe with Ad0pt. if it was us versus them. We prefer to take a few ships and fight. Do we use logistics? We try not to, but we have the ability to. That is the equalizer. In high sec, numbers do not make the win. Intelligence does.
However, high sec is slowly being demolished. It used to be (when I started playing, at least) that PvP was not an option. It would find you eventually, like it or not. War decced? Join an alliance, or leave it to lose the dec (or transfer it and have allies!). Or drop corp. There are outs, and there shouldn't be.
By making it so you can dec shield legitimately, or join/leave an alliance to lose a dec, PvP becomes less and less. High sec certainly does become that carebear land groups like EVE University have dreamed of. I've said it many times before: EVE University does not teach PvP. The real teachers are the pirate corporations who specialize in small-gang tactics. In high sec, corporations like Error-404 are teachers, because we will show you where you screwed up, and how to fix it.
But we are dying out. These small-gang corporations and alliances are being told to get the hell out of this game, or join up with a blobbing group. How is that fair to us?
Why does PvP have to be centered squarely around numbers?

People should be aware and accept the consequences of their own actions. CCP did not tell you or force you to create absurdly large mega alliances surrounded by blues with hordes of RMT bots. That was of YOUR OWN DOING. Its called RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY. If you can't accept that then HTFU. Nullsec is designed to only work with napfests and RMT bots. By it's very design, that's the audience it caters to. If you don't take part, you will not succeed. It's a design issue. Nullsec is poorly designed. CCP is not obligated to change that design, no, it's their game. Of course, it's my MasterCard, and I'm not obligated to keep paying a sub. And that's why I'm more interested in the summer expansion than the winter expansion.
Although, what I'd really like to see is to extend w-space with short ranged player-built destructible low EHP stargates (planets only, no POS gun defense.) Make a way for non-nullsec alliances to finance the supers to challenge the Grayscale-RMT-friends, but in a way that makes their w-space empires indefensible. |

You're wrong again, it's human nature. CCP implemented the changes that were going to result in large mega alliances, they should have realised that would be the result. Meaning they did not think it through fully.
It was not of my own doing as I'm not in one of those alliances, I don't even blame the alliances involved because it was going to happen (not talking about RMT as I can't really say anything on that as I've not seen any proof of large alliances in 0.0 RMTing) . It's the kind of thing that happens when you add competition into the game in the manner CCP did.

Null sec dictating to each and every players from older to new one how they have to play this game, forget CCP on the process, they have nothing to say.
Yeah very fun indeed. Excellent experience.

Alliances should stop having their space full of blues so they won't be so bored so much.
Imagine if we applied the Nullsec Alliance systems and Coalitions to the Entire EVE universe. There would simply be not much people to fight, and when targets are found they will be crushed with ridiculous overwhelming force, never to be seen again.
Then they will run out of Targets because no one wants to fight a ridiculously Large Blob.
If you want easy to find and easy to destroy kills, well that's simply too bad, most people will not make the same mistake twice.
Alliances should think about their war philosophy and politics and wonder why nullsec is stagnating.

Alliances are making the best decisions that they can for the success of their alliances. Unprofitable wars destroy alliances. The nullsec alliances are making the right decisions for their own success. Game mechanics do not allow any decisions to be made other than those that have been made.
Perhaps you should clarify your argument and come up with some valid, plausible supporting points, because so far it's just been a babbling "I'm sooooo angry!" |

Player Driven . that is the wonderful thing about eve .
For over 7 years we have had a player driven game and it has been awesome.
How ever there has been one problem that ccp has been wanting to solve. how to get more people out of high sec and into null?
Unfortunately the players have failed at making null awesome .
As the game stands now it is entirely dependent on the players to make null in to a place that people want to come to.
Over the years the player base has been exposed to null enough, to know whether they are going to stay or avoid it . The majority have decided to avoid it or worse exploit it.
The exploitation of nullsec is what has made it anemic . The lack of player investment into the game mechanics available to them is another.
Honest attempts have been made by the players to make null attractive but they have all failed. mainly because its easier ,more profitable , and unfortunately more fun to just cannibalize each other than to watch each others backs.
Null as it stands can be interpreted as fine .. but it will take more than just the players to make null into what ccp envisions. |

Nonni has more production capacity than any 5 regions of sovereign 0.0 space. For free.

One thing that would really jazz it up is the ability to dial in a system to system warp for most ships, whether by module, rig or hull.
The gank pipelines and hence the gankaholics along with the usual use of renter space as killing fields have managed to form a Great Wall of Carebear around high sec. The gates, and the mechanics around them, lead to gate camps and blobs. The gate camp and the warp bubble reign. Remove the dependency on them and the age of the Combat Probe and small patrol begins.

Please CCP, there is nothing wrong with Nullsec and there are plenty of isk and opportunities to become rich. It is the fault of the alliances and the people there that make it so.

It's hilariously easy to move through 0.0 if you try some other method than "Get in Raven, set autopilot, activate autopilot".

Not all low and null players are douches. Im trying to get my PVP on at the mo and the learning curve isnt too steep, strap guns to ship and pew. Once you are over getting ships blown up and getting podded (which happens less than you would think!) that side of it isn't to bad. I have met more people in low sec who are talk than i ever have in high sec. The guys in BREAD have been very cool as has the others who have shot at me, ransomed me and generally given me tips. - During the week at any rate.
Now what i have discovered is that low sec apears to have no one in it, seriously it's a bit boring. There are no small gangs, there is mainly 1 on 1, at least between Amarr and Gallantee space (Domani, Sing Laison etc.).
Partly this is becasue of Low secs rep i think, but also some low sec players are douches. If you educate high sec players in pvp, if you encourage small corps to set up you will get your pew on. The problem is those small corps will get murdered simply becasue there is no one there. A friend of mine, who is a dedicated pirate, has recently come up to high sec becasue low sec has got boring, tells you a lot really dosn't it.
I have only played in Null a little, and that was the training wheels npc null and bubble camps (i cant fly a raven or proteus so bubble camps hurt) ended the fun for me. As a Neutral you are a victim waiting to happen, i will say again however there are some cool people who will give tips and help, but a samll group or one person really dosn't have any impact. If you want samll gangs running around null you need to give 'em an ability to affect the world around them.
Hell if all the high sec greifers though they could go and grief null sec alliance i reckon they would be all over it (unless of course they are high sec griefing because its safe with little risk, see what i did there ;) )
There is a problem with the people, but also there needs to be system changes. Not sure what, but OP is mainly right. |

Far from being a null vet myself, i have to question this? Elaborate some.
Null is full of big alliances with thousands of players, 99% of which complain that null is boring and CCP owes it to them for some reson to fix what you yourselves broke.
Usually the most obvious solution is the right one, if you null sec bears are bored, it because you blueball everybody within reach to protect your RMT bot operations, ergo, if you want constant unrestricted PVP ( which is the whole point of null ) then red each other and pew pew to your hearts content.
Problem solved.
You lot always call high seccers bears for not coming into low/null, yet there are no bigger hypocrties than yourselves, your all carebears in null by your own choice, you just dont like people knowing it.

To OP: you are wrong.
You can't blame people for behaving egocentric and powerhungry in nullsec. That is how they are/play in this game. It is CCP job to design the sandbox around this premise and make it work for many people REGARDLESS. I have to admit that is probably tough, because people come up with new and exciting ways of being assholes all the time :) (not that that is necessarily a bad thing in a game like this).

Nice broad generalisation there. 99% of null seem to be pretty dam content with shooting each other right now. Yeah maybe it would be nice to have more targets, yea maybe it would be nice if anomalies payed out as much as they used to so that i can get back on the horse a bit quicker but. But **** man, maybe you should spend less time on the forums and more time playing. Maybe then youd see that 99% of players in null are pretty chill.

The OP makes some vaild points, IMHO.
I'm fairly new to the game and yes, I know very little about Null Sec game mechanics. However, I can use the in game map and that seems to suggest that most pew pew (ships destroyed, ignoring starter systems) actually takes place in Hi Sec. On the other hand, looking at the out of game influence map, broad swathes of Null Sec are held by a small group of large alliances.
Isn't Null Sec meant to be harsh and full of foreboding and risk for everyone and not just a blue filled refuge for the esconced corp/alliance?
Aren't Nullbears just as bad for the game's future as the Hi Sec Carebears?
Again, I don't know enough to have a concrete view, hence my questions. |

Aren't Nullbears just as bad for the game's future as the Hi Sec Carebears?
Again, I don't know enough to have a concrete view, hence my questions.
Your space is your refuge really. You leave your space to find targets if they dont come to you. Your space is as safe as you make it but yea large areas are just devoid of players because there isnt enough people out in null to fill the space. |

There's a thread for system to system hyperwarp in F&I. You want a way to avoid gatecamps and bubbles and instantly reach your destination? Wow what a massive carebear you are. You should try to see the average players point of veiw about nullsec. If they know less than jack about warp bubbles and attempt null through CCP's fancy choke points, then they are likely warping into a blob gate camp. After a few wtfpwndbbqs they will try something more profitable. Simple solution: remove warp bubbles. Let the care campers do some work. It's very easy to evade camps, but it's even easier to whine about them. Its even easier to avoid discussions about them.

Ya think do you? Like it was in times before sov?
Back before POS, Outposts, offical allinces limited numbers of standings you could set?
You know what happened then? allinces were just done by blue lists, nutlipule regions claimed by these groups and they had not upkeep to take ISK out of their coffers.

Player driven content: you can fit has much POS' has you want.
So what's their problem? -they have enough isk to pay for ganks but not enough to pay for invention, production, manufacturing slots??

We have a few directors who have extraordinary in-game wealth, but they're mainly members of our finance team - i.e. the guys who ensure that the alliance has as much income as possible. Null is just a tidy bit too sandboxy.
The super alliances there just make it impossible for younger corps to start venturing there themselves.
It's this natural barrier that needs to be fixed.
Null ain't broken or empty. It's just the same old alliances controlling the whole place, that's the problem about it. In the end it's same alliances shooting the same ennemy alliances again and agian.
The ground idea of nullsec is great, but it CCP should add a few restrictions to allow new corporations to find a place there. But that means reducing the sandbox element of it. It's a tricky fix for sure. FiS should be the priority, but WiS should not be burried!

People in null-sec were against it (go figure), and people in hi-sec liked my post but were too intimidated to throw in their own two cents.
The null-sec carebears want more people coming to null-sec, but not if it threatens their status quo.
The fact is, Alliances and Corporations need to be limited in scope. There needs to be limits on membership numbers and the amount of SOV they can claim. This will break up null-sec and cause lots of conflict - not because the old dusty Carebear Coalitions will be fighting eachother, but because players from hi-sec will finally be competing with players in null-sec over real estate. Null-Sec needs to HTFU and stop crying to CCP. If null-sec wants PvP, they need to stop being carebears and start fighting eachother - after years of bot-mining, they have the ships! |

The OP, and most posters in this thread, clearly haven't got a clue about nullsec.
In the beginning, nullsec was anarchy; a power vacuum. But power abhors a vacuum, and so the supposedly lawless space of nullsec became the domain of large alliances. Where there is anarchy, the man with the biggest stick is the boss. That power and influence extends beyond formal sovereign borders, sometimes forcing nearby alliances to 'rent' their space (effectively pay tribute), or be forced off it to make way for someone who will pay.
Nullsec alliances have fought for the space they hold. They have bashed TCUs, i-hubs, stations and POSes in order to establish their control. It's a tedious and gruelling grind. So having gone through all that effort to conquer and develop their space, do you think nullsec players will be happy to let any old scrub come in and start exploiting the resources they have worked to take control of? Of course not. They didn't spend hours grinding through millions of hitpoints, and spend billions of ISK upgrading the resources of their space for your benefit. They did it for themselves. It's their space, and they are right to defend it.
If you want to live in nullsec, you have to serve the man with the big stick. If you don't want to do that, you have to either have the ISK or the diplomatic ability make nice with your neighbours, or be strong enough to carve out and protect your own domain. That's anarchy for you.
The reason nullsec is stagnant right now has everything to do with the mechanics of nullsec warfare and nothing to do with how jealously nullsec alliances protect their assets. Grinding through millions of hitpoints on sov structures for hours on end is a huge bore. The intended tools for that task (dreadnoughts) are unsuitable. The huge battles that are supposed to be one of the hallmarks of nullsec warfare are currently settled solely by which side has the most supercapitals, rendering all other tactics, skill and planning irrelevant, and excluding the vast majority of pilots from playing any decisive part in the fight.
The ability of 100-ship blobs to move around as quickly as 10-ship roaming gangs often ends with hideously lopsided - and critically unenjoyable - engagements. And even when 'good fights' do take place, it's normally between homogenous gangs of single types of ships, let alone ship classes. Fleets comprised entirely of Abaddons, Drakes, Hurricanes, Maelstroms, or Zealots, with a smattering of essential supporting logistics, tackle and interdiction, make fights rather one dimensional. Rock/paper/scissors is a good analogy for how solo PVP should work, but fleet PVP ought to be far more complex.
And on top of that, the opportunities to make ISK in nullsec, to fund all that PVP, are too limited compared to the easy-mode highsec isk faucets of level 4 missions and highsec incursions. Nullsec industry is nearly non-existent, due to the difficulty of using outposts for refining and production, and the ease of using jump freighters to and from highsec.
Because of all this, nullsec alliance warfare is a chore, and even the carebears that understand nullsec don't want to be there because they can make more ISK in highsec. That is why it has become stagnated.
You could say that the players and alliances have created these problems, and for some of them, that would be half right. But you can't blame players and alliances for playing to win within the existing mechanics. If there is an imbalance, they will exploit it. If there is a way to smother any potential resistance, they will do so. It's CCP's job to design those mechanics in a way that keeps things interesting. |

You know, from all that you wrote, there is only one thing I can spot that you could put on CCP's shoulders as far as the nullsec situation goes: they made sov structures take too long to kill.
The funny thing here is, if anyone suggested removing these and replcing it with something that is less tedious and time consuming to kill, the current nullsec alliances would rage like there was no tomorrow.
If any of the current nullsec alliances would just for once think a bit differently, then things would be very different. The fact is, shoot everything that isn't us is extremely short sighted. If your main interest is pvp, then you should welcome strangers in to your home. Even protect those strangers, provided that they follow some simple rules (that can be anything from pay the rent to only dock in this station).
If done successfully, the profits are almost endless. Imagine if you could have 5k isk everytime somebody docks in Jita. Or let's say a bit more, 50k. At which point would people stop paying the fee to dock at Jita 4-4?
And yes, there ample opportunities to make isk in nullsec. The only thing that can make it less profitable is the fact that there is no concord to protect a player from hostile intervention. If no hostile intervention is present, the money making potential is muich higher.
No, the tools are there, the will is missing though.

You're wrong. There's a lot more than just sov structures that only CCP can fix. Supercaps. Dreadnoughts. Overall ship and weapon balancing and useful roles to help diversity. The marginal utility of nullsec PVE over highsec. Lag. Blob mobility. The uselessness of outposts for industry. All of those things are mechanical problems, and have nothing to do with how players choose to play the game.
Sov-holding alliances would generally rather accumulate power than keep opponents in their midst to provide PVP content. That's fine - it's the engine of conflict. The problem is that the mechanics of that conflict are so shoddy that players are bored of it. Because of that, the pet alliances that should be growing into territory-hungry powerhouses and challenging the established powers, aren't growing any more because they've been struggling to recruit new people for months. |

There are some interesting views in this, from both sides of the fence.
My opinion for what it is worth:
In any walk of life the majority of people will adapt to the systems which are put before them. The problem is that the current systems within eve favour numerical advantage over tactics, and the resources of null are well distributed so the large powers are happy with their lot.
The biggest threat to an alliances income stream is to be usurped from their space and have their assets taken away, so to mitigate this risk the alliance grows and forms power blocs. The size of the powerblocs has created a stalemate, and the risk of taking new space massively outstrips the potential profit of obtaining the space.
All this is natural, and would be expected in this kind of situation. There is not enough instability to cause conflict, or enough resource constraint to make people want to look elsewhere.
This creates a system which is near impossible for smaller alliances to thrive outside of someone elses shadow.

Regarding ship roles and weapon balancing, I don't see how that is a nullsec problem. It's to a large extent a non-highsec problem, but that's only because caps/supercaps aren't allowed there. Other than that I agree it's a problem, I haven't noticed a complete standstill in eve, so it must be working to some extent. It's certainly not broken to the extent that it's game breaking.
And how is nullsec PVE worse than highsec pvp? AFAIK the only thing highsec has that nullsec doesn't have is missions. All the other PVE content in nullsec is not only more lucrative but also more entertaining.
Your second paragraph proves the op's point. What the current nullsec alliances don't realize is that they could harvest far more power by changing their attitudes. For instance, how many neutral pilots came to CVA's assistance when they were under attack by the Brick squad?
Nullsec is currently ruled by a bunch of shortsighted crybabies that want CCP to force more people in to their grasp. That is the problem with nullsec. If CCP were to "fix" it, the only thing they can do is ban all the people belonging to those alliances.
I don't support that solution, but I don't feel CCP should waste any more resources on a problem they didn't create, and much less are "fix".
To all the nullsec alliances out there: fix yourselves! Have you noticed how some ships are actually blue? Weird isn't it? |

Yes, it's an dead end. Any change in game mechanics will be followed by whines of nullbears about breaking the sandbox and stuff like that. Really, everyone knows it's the their fault, that they're not shooting each other, but no one came with a solution. Because only solution would be to either strip the whole "player owned/driven space" or make creating large coalitions a bannable offense. |

If they want high sec carebears to move into null sec, then they need to tear down those walls! It's hilariously easy to move through 0.0 if you try some other method than "Get in Raven, set autopilot, activate autopilot". Would you like to know more? nullsec ain't worth it. I don't need to know more. You have been around long enough to know that when CCP introduced warp bubbles it messed up nullsec. The only thin that is "hilariously easy" is gate camping with warp bubbles. See now you're lying. That is to say, you're deliberately saying things that aren't true. Bubbles are far more for the protection of PvErs than they are for killing them You calling gate campers PVEers?
