My Experience at pvp over the last 6 months
Hopefully this wont come over as a whine ;-) but I cant take no more. IÆve finally come to the conclusion that I suck so bad at pvp its embarrassing and IÆm posting this on my alt, my character is 6 months old and was built purely for pvp I havenÆt in that time killed any one , ;-( but my losses are extreme to say the least
6 Haprys > 150mil Down the Pan
4 Ferox > 108Mil Down the Pan
2 RetributionÆs > 34Mil (I love this ship ;-)
15 Moa - 105 Mil
3 Blackbirds - 9mil (Probably my best opportunity to get my first kill but I forgot to fit a scrambler,)
So thatÆs 406 Mil up in smoke and easy another 60mil in fittings
IÆm going to sell my raven and give all the isk to any random person I see, uninstall eve and hopefully I can with stand the withdrawal symptoms over the next few days ;-(
Please dont lock this thread I deserve any flames I get please let this run
I did start insuring my ships but sometimes I just forgot to, I lost all my ships solo I suck

All that matters here is that you had fun. i so wish i could pvp, i tried, it cost me a few cyclones (one uninsured...) but!
making money is not easy but doable. I guess from now you will think about insuring them, using cheap fitting (which you probably did already!)
All that matters in the long run is the fun you had. frustration is part of it, but not on the same day :p
I think you have a lot of courage to try this playstyle
i started eve very recently, tried to shoot something in empire space, concord came and i went poof
then i could find a few helpful people who explained me a few things, and i joined a friendly corp.
still learning but i hope i can at least defend myself in PvP soon!
soloing PVP shows a lot of courage tho :)
Why not try to find a group to fight with? i agree the reward is less than solo, but the survival is better :)
Dont do anything permanent, the frustration will probably fade and you will be back, happy to find all there !

It's all learning mate.
The amount I've lost would make most people have a heart attack. But you're havign fun. I suggest sticking to crusiers. They are great and good in low sec vs most people. Just keep trying mate. -=====-

I fail to understand how you could lose so many ships and not get a single kill
Perhaps if you went into detail on some of the actual fights and ship setups then we could give you some help, because you must be doing something seriously wrong. --------------

what he said ... don't give up ..
use cheap ships (t1 frigs, t1 cruiser) and cheap equipment (i'm saying cheap - not useless ) ... try to find some fights where you know you will survive ... and then slowly progress to those were your survival rate will drop ... ___________________

i fail to see too to be honest I dont think my setups are the problem. My main problem is I panic like a twit when pvp kicks off, my heart rate quadruples, before I even lock on im saying to myself Im gonna loose another ship, I think an Ibis could take me ;-(

You managed to lose over 30 ships without killing anyone?

Not long ago I tried out a pirate alt and managed to kill about 25 ships and lost 2, on my second day.
Are you undocking repeatedly into stationcamps or something?

Then practice on the test server or something until you get over it... or fight in really cheap ships like kestrels...

Sounds just like my experience in pvp. Also same thing with wife's pvp experience in eve. Crapload of isk gone poof. Parts of it was fun other parts totally stupid...
My loses came from flying blackbird or "pink ship with huge text saying "primary, n00b"". Still I would have loved to see some success. 8 months, zero kills, loses untold.
But in the end I came to conclusion that pvp and me don't fit together.

Heh I have 2 years and 11 months - 0 kills. You realize there is more to even than only PVP? Or if you really really really must kill someone, a BS with smartbombs in jita should be able to pull off at least one kill before concord gets you
and... can I have your stuff(tm)?

Solo PvPingg in 0.0 has to be the most dangerous thing you can possibly do as a newbie
Try piracy in low sec or something

ah - the mystery is solved ... beeing solo in syndicate as a quite unexperienced play is like jumping into a lions cage wearing a suit made out of steaks ___________________

If it's any consolation... About a year ago I quit Eve for about 6 months after I lost 9 Ferox's in a week. Insurance doesn't really help since they were about 90mil a piece including fittings.
This time around I'm playing it differently. Deleted my old main. This is my new main. She's a couple months old. Coming up to 3 million sp now, and she can only fly a frigate and a covertor. But she has the real supporting skills now. Just because you can fly ship, doesn't mean you should. Get all your supporting skills up, then get in your dream boat.
And don't take your dream boat solo into low sec on the first day. Travel around a bit. Get used to the speed and rate of alignment. Go out ratting with some corp mates. Then go out ganking with some corp mates. Then make sure you have enough isk to be able to lose this ship. Then try some solo ratting And a 1 on 1 pvp'er will show up in your belt. Let him have it!

You heard DS
Get a ship thats easier to replace.
I used to get all excited when in sticky situations too. Just take a deep breath, think about what it is you have to do, act.
And Joining a corp that actively pvp's will soon get you the right advice regarding fittings and tactics, not to mention a wingman.
Combat in EVE is only ever fair by mutual consent or pure amazing accident. The rest of the time the strong destroy the weak or less well prepared.
I take active part in pvp by actively attempting to be in the place where I am not being sought after. I have "Won" loads of encouters by virtue of the fact that the enemy couldnt find me. dont get me wrong, I have lost plenty of ships too, but the one BS and BC I have lost both came from jumping into gatecamps. The (oh so many) cruisers I have lost, are mostly my own fault for sticking my nose in where its not wanted.
I cost em money by making em launch probes and dont panic when the big ugly pies in local start the come out come out wherever you are game. Its a lot of fun seeing em get frustrated and leave the system after looking for you for a half hour with no success.....the parting chatlogs are pure comedy gold.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 05/05/2006 12:16:42 If you want a highly effective ultra-cheap setup:
Kestrel (200k) 4x Malkuth/Limos rockets (50k) Medium Shield Extender II (400k) Web (50k) Scrambler (40k) MAPC (150k) Ballistic control (70k)
I took out a wartarget Taranis with this a few days ago and didn't even reach armor

I didnt read the whole thread but here is my advice among all the others. Bear in ming i havent PvP'ed a lot over my 3 years.
Ok first of all stay in 0.4 - 0.1. 0.0 is simply too dangerous for someone who is inexperienced in dealing with danger. Practice your combat skills in cheap ships such as a kesttrell. Reason being its a good combat ship and losing it doesant cost alot.
Final tip tho you dont have to do this is to join a combat corp such as a mercenery corp or a pirate corp.

pvp anxiety. curious, have you done much pvp in other MMO's? the reason I ask is because in Eve its much more of a rush and theres a lot to risk. spend some time playing some FPS multiplayer or a game like guild wars to get your pvp legs. above all, dont be humiliated and dont have discussions with your opponent after the battle. (if you lose)
if that isnt the case then like someone else said .. keep practicing in a jump clone and a cruiser

I see little reason not too as long as you are carefull. Point is you shouldnt be forced to join a player corp if you dont want to.

Problem is in those online games the death loss isant the same so the PvP rush is very small in comparison i find. You get more in eve because there is real loss involved.
