I see CCP is running 20% off skin sales.
I bought a skin for my rokh, but honestly, i dont even have a rokh.....
I know this is a trial and all, but sales of skins would go MUCH better if
A) All ships could be re-skinned
B) You had cool skins (hello kitty, Nuka-cola, etc etc etc)
Bonus C) Just let us upload our own skins already - give us wrapper templates for the hulls, let us color them in, and use em - client side only for now, maybe global database later. |

You bought the Rokh one? Really? It looks like its covered in rust spots.
All of them look worse than the normal variants actually. Except maybe the Hyperion. The stripe/accent of color theme is exactly what they should do with faction and T2 ships instead of the camouflage and Ishukone fade.
Anyway... Ugly, functionally-useless things that cost ISK. Wouldn't be surprised if they haven't sold well. Oh, and they get blown up along with the ship. Ugly, functionally-useless things that cost ISK and get destroyed. lol.
On top of that they're involved with a 3rd currency and cash shop that perhaps some players want nothing to do with. I know I don't. All my characters still have all their free aurum, I refuse to participate in that nonsense.

Ship skins are fine. You wanna paint your ship before I blow it up? Thats fine.
What bugs me is the name change. Its not a special Hyperion. Its a painted normal one. I know this has to do with the database and items ID. But if this goes fullscale, I want those stupid names of my overview and reserve that special attention to those who show up in special ships (Navy varaints and such). |

I think their approach is both short-sighted from a corporate money-grubbing perspective and also for it's limited impact and effect upon the in game experience.
Buying specific 'pre-fab' skins is largely redundant and is utterly impersonal. You haven't 'personalised' your avatar by spending $50 (or whatever it actually is) on a monocle, or goggles, or one of three very-90's looking fashion disasters to wear on your legs or chest any more than you express 'yourself' (whoever that is) by inflicting one of several or very few skins upon your selected ship.
A more far-sighted and attractive scenario would be real, albeit limited, personalization of the paint job as an extension of corporation emblem design.
Re-skinning should be able to be personalised based on a selection of camouflage or other design templates which can then have their highs, mids and lows chosen to reflect the individual pilot or their corporation. Specific areas of the ship could display a corp logo or whatever - just as pirate faction ships have specific paint and their respective pirate decals applied.
This would be far more attractive than an assortment of pre-made, and utterly impersonal paint jobs, and would inspire (I presume) entire corps to *demand* members to effectively hand over real monies to skin their ship just so....
Win for the individual, win for the corporation selling them. |

I really hope they eventually add in the ship customization, but I agree this trial is not going to get them positive results as it includes having to build a completely new ship.
Also, I think the real strenght of this would be if CCP adds in a system that allows alliances to make a custom colour scheme available to their pilots so they can fly under their alliance colours.
