well from my own perspective atm i see several problems
1) all sound on my eve client is always off to reduce lag..specialy needed in fleet combat 2) i have access to a ts server i dont have to pay for, and works perfectly fine...so why fix what aint broken? 3) i have 4 accounts...there is no way im paying for VOIP on all 4...if eve turns into a scenario of those who have and those who dont..well i guess ill have to cancel 2/3 of my accounts so i wont be at a disadvantage on my main 4)will this VOIP programe increase lag on the client? 5) im sure most of the community will be displeased at the very least if all the UI bugs are still implace at next patch just so this VOIP will be implemented. _____ This is a Stain Alliance Fighter. Originally by: "Press Release" Voice Integration. CCP is collaborating with Vivox to integrate a voice chat program into EVE Online. A user interface will show the various communication channels and which player within a channel is speaking. Players will also have moderator privileges to kick, mute, ban and un-ban other players, allowing greater control communication control, especially during combat. As an option provided to players and there will be a minimum monthly fee to per player to use. Timeline: 1st stage.
To be honest I read that as there being a charge for the hosting, that is based on the number of people who will use. Thus 50/100/1000 player TS servers etc. The players don't pay.
It seems to just have been written horridly.

I have a felling the fee will be an astonding $1. Very reasonable for small corps that need a VoIP but don't have access to , man power to, or someone in the corp that can host a 24/7 TS server.
If its a $1 I'll add it to my service just so I can play with it and ***** jokes in local.

CCP is rushing to get this developed so that it can be ready for the China server launch, so they can get all of those new members using the new system before they (the users) can become accustomed to using other third party comms(such as we have).
Wonder who will be monitoring their voice coms? Will there be backup copies made of all voice coms on said server?

Yeah, because AAAAAAAAALL the people working on the above is working in integrating this 3rd party product into Eve. All of them. Rest is driving Oveurs Ferrari. Noone is working on Kali - because they know people on this forum knows how to run things better, anyway.
And its a third party product that CCP is facilitating to the users. It is not new content. Its an optional service. Like moving chars between accounts or changing your portrait. Please resize your signature so that it is within the forum rule size limits - Jacques |

Well seeing as faction warfare which was THE WHOLE ******* POINT OF KALI has been pushed back another year, I want to know if any of the other features have suffered the same fate.
Some people seem to have very short memories. The entire point of RMR/Blood was to release all the content first (i.e. new ships n mods n stuff) and then we would get all of the features (faction warfare, contracts, etc) in July. Now we're getting features no-one has asked for, the thing everyone's been waiting for the most has been pushed back by another 12 months and nobody from the dev team dares to comment on what's happened to everything else.

This might end up similar to Vent. Not everybody need to pay to join, only the host of the server pays. So for few extra $$, we might get superb quality comm system. I know most people dont like paying extra for something, but many pay for Vent, why shouldnt they pay for something like this?

Well, the point is not really weather the voice thing will be good or not. The point is that most of the features in Kali has been pushed forward for a year with no official explaination from the devs. Despite several days of asking questions in multiple threads, they are staying silent on this issue. Also, we wouldnt know anything about this if it wasnt for third-party sites like mmorpg, which appearently, are fine to share details with.
Im sure im upsetting some dev reading this, but you guys have to understand we are frustrated. Any info, like a post telling us you are preparing an update on the kali features, would be good. But you stay silent.

Even if everything else is ignored, the simple fact that an integrated VOIP service will terminate if the client crashes/freezes or just isn't loaded yet means that a third party program is infinetly more desirable.

Well this could be a bit better than vent or ts because you could talk to anyone else in game with it, so if you grouped up with random ppl you could talk to them and not have everyone jumping all over vent or ts servers trying to find each other. Would be really nice for cybering too would get the ball rolling faster leaving more time on the pleasure boat.

Edited by: Kastar on 16/05/2006 12:40:53 I don't like the idea and it's silly to try to integrate something that perfectly works on another front or from another party.
It sounds like cheap marketing thing to be able to distinguish Eve further from others.
Then, again, i don't use VOIP, so not relevant for me, unless they raise subscription across the boards.
What I'm generally as upset about, just as a lot of others is why this exactly needs to be prioritized or gets resources allocated.
Let's see what we got recently:
- New hardware to fix lag ---> more lag, crashes, people that can't play - As an example... still no divisional wallets, though requested for ages. A lot more examples are possible in this sense - promises about Kali: now radiosilence about what's practically going to happen, rumours about different patches and suddenly a feature, possibly to be paid for that 95% does not seem to want.
What ****ed me off even more was recent communication:
- E3 coverage was a joke. Frankly, from what's on our (this) community site is comment about devs being drunk or tired and spotting Paris Hilton probably. Except for some screenies that were spread before nothing solid, tastable or attractive. We didn't know anything about the other E3 things. It would have been intersting to get a dev view on other games and mmo
- Last but not least. While we received exciting diaries, HW upgrade went wrong... again
So all in all, please focus on other things before implementing yet another marketing trick.

Quite frankly, I have always loved CCP, but they seem to be biting off more than they can chew atm.
The China thing, pumping out all these patches and so on. I bet people would even play on for another 3 years with no fruther new content, on condition current problems with the cluster are fixed. At this rate, we're going to be stuck with the most complex, exciting game ever, only not playable without facing a bug or a crash after the 4th mouseclick.
Communication is BAD since a while. They are making the game grow, forgetting to make it better. ------------------------------------------------

Anyone more then me starting to get the feel that CCP is like "lets collect as much money as we can, then just close this sucker down or sell it to SOE". Cause the content patches are in my opinion getting thinner and broken in-game stuff is getting less and less fixed. And im really missing the days when the devs and community managers talked to people in the forums not just replying to statements or closeing threads like today.
And after this voice thing comes vista/dx10 upgrade meaning u dont HAVE to pay but if u wanna see the new graphics and use our new voice system, pay up.
Now on the other hand sure they have been busy with the new servers and promoting EVE every where, but cmon feels like Tranq is on the back burner while china is getting all the love. And that makes me a bit aggro cause we have been paying for all this and now are getting the short end of the stick.
Well my rant is over, hopefully CCP will prove me wrong.
