Yeah but I don't see how it should be treated any differently than other games that have expansions that you have to pay for.

If it's standalone, it is considered a sequel rather than an expansion. Is it standalone?

whats with the stupid mmorpg.com and eve
evrybody seems to be voting on it on eve just to get the standing up in stead of giving it a serieouse review.
i also think its lame that ccp put that one contest on the front page to "force" all the members vote on it.

I like Guild Wars, but it's hardly an MMO. It's a next-gen cross between Diablo and Unreal Tournament with 3D chatrooms.
Edit: Also, Factions is a completely seperate game you can play stand-alone or as an expansion to the original, which has been renamed to Prophecies. I think it's fair that it counts as a seperate game.

Because they're seprate games, you don't need the original GuildWars to play Factions.

guys, let's not all rush over there and rate eve 10 out of 10 ok ?
I mean, on mmorpg.com the Eve community already has a somewhat questionable reputation because of the clearly overactive rating behaviour regarding our game.
Rate if you post there or read there regularly, if not don't bother. It won't help you anyway since only ratings done by active accounts get taken into consideration on the longer term.

It's intended to be a guage of which MMO is best, not which MMO got the most subscribers to go and give it 10/10 reviews.

its fine for people to enjoy GW for what it is.
but what it is, is NOT an MMO.
but, unfortunately due to things like that and the way some gaming magazines treat the term "MMO" its really getting to lose any meaning it ever had.

I played Guild Wars for a few weeks. But it was depressing when I found that you could build a lvl 20 (max level) character in a month. Tried out the pvp and it was boring after the 3rd or 4th round. Just wait in a big area and get thrown into a team with other random people and go fight another team of random people (Yes are pvp matches with people from the same guild but it just got old fast). I think the reason Guild Wars is popular is because there are a lot of kids and other people who won't (or can't) pay to play the subscription games. Guild Wars is a good MMORPG if you don't want to pay I suppose, but definately lacking everything you get with a p2p mmo such as EVE. Especially the community. You can estimate the average age of the Guild Wars community when the towns and all instances of the towns have a crowd of characters w/ nothing equiped doing their /dance emote in the center square all shouting "weee I'm naked! lololo". -_-;
