I think it's safe to say we will never see risk free (aka mind numbingly boring pvp) in eve ever.
Please lock this thread it makes baby hammerhead cry.
No it proves that 80% of the forum posters are against it, and that 12 of them are against it 8 or more times.
The only meaningful statistics are poles like daoc has. In one of them, the forum had voted unanimously for one thing, while a totally different thing won the pole. The forum doesn't represent the playerbase.

Since more than 90% of EVE players don't ever post on this forum, you'd be wrong then. ________________________________________________

Wow. What an amazing thread. I find it amusing that so many players come here and spout their ideas, yet when people disagree they have the audacity to say something like "well hardly anyone posts here, so your opinions are worthless" - all the while failing to spot the impact such a statement has on their own argument.
Anyway, I wanted to add my own opinion here. I don't want to add to the flaming, other than to say this: if PvP in EVE was changed in anything like the ways the OP desired, then EVE would cease to exist.
To my mind, EVE is totally unique. The PvP in EVE is fun precisely because it can be painful and risky. I must have said: "that's it, I'm cancelling!" countless times, after getting gate-ganked, or chased through 0.0 in a hauler over twenty jumps only to lose the chase (and hundreds of millions of isk), but I'm still here, and so are my mates, and they've all suffered big losses.
Asking for riskless PvP is a bit like playing Grand Theft Auto and putting all the cheat codes in straight away. Sure it's fun for 3 minutes to use huge guns to achieve everything, but where did the challenge go?
Want PvP but don't like alliance politics or gate ganks? Use your BRAIN to play, there are many, many other ways to enjoy combat with other players.

The argument is pointless. He offers no statistics to support his own claims of how the masses would rather have his system implemented, yet is quick to dismiss everyone on these forums who disagrees with him as merely "the minority", who's opinions are anything but valid and/or a reflection of the general viewpoint.
It's triffle and moronic, and by responding and thus bumping the thread, I am doing the community a disservice. I should be ashamed.
I'll get right on it.

For one thing most of you didn't read far enough to see that I wasn't asking for what pretty much ALL of you thought I was asking for, then caught a bad case of mob mentality and posted the same thing. And yeah im sorry, but the forum doesn't represent the playerbase. Hundreds of people post here. Close to a hundred thousand play the game. To assume an equal distribution of interests is represented by the forum goers is naive.

WOW fails at PvP because WOW was not developed with PvP. WOW PvP is ridiculous because it is highly depending on a few factors that the alltime lag in WOW makes it much unfun. At least it did when I tested it.
Combat in EVE would be as much fun if you actually had to aim manually (plus the fun of losing all you have). The technical differences are miniscule if you cared to think about it for 5 seconds.
Lets come to the contructive part. How do you go for the instant gratification PvP when you have a mere hour to play until you have to leave? You'd go to the next lowsec and do some belt pirating in a throwaway ship? Remember that the imbalanced4 starts at the position of 'Go away with sucky politics. I have not the time to do it in EVE for weeks.'.
I remember the fun I had in JumpGate. The simulator offered many fitting options, and you jumped in with your current ship. If you didn't had the time to hunt down a pirate or other opponent, you could call anyone anywhere and ask for a quick session in simulator x. Run the gauntlet, laugh about it, maybe learn something new about your ship, your weapons or about a tactic you didn't test before. Innocent fun, the quick and dirty way. And it did not touch the fun outside the simulator. And it helped bringing unexperienced into the PvP part. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

Edited by: Yilan Cheran on 21/05/2006 09:09:28 In Wing Commander you had simulation computers on stations. Maybe it might be an idea to implement something like that in Eve?
There would have to be a fee for renting simulation computers on stations though, pl·s, there should be fewer options on the simulation then in "real" Eve. (I am thinking about a limited range of pre-fitted ships.
Pl·s, the sim should look differently. the look I am imagining is kind of like the one in the original Elite game, wouldn't that be a gimmic )
I think this might lead to m=re PvP in the end. Taking myself as an example: I am way to chicken to throw myself into a PvP fight at the moment, mostly because I believe that I am too inexperienced to stand a chance. Gimme some practice, and, erm... well, I probbly stfll wouldn't stand a chance, but at least I'd have the feeling that I was at least able to practice beforehand.

Dear valued mr. OP!
It has come to my attention that... err, screw this.. Basically dude, your so called "request" has been discussed and it is obvious that the majority of players are against it. You just choose to ignore everything they say.
Now let me point out your mistakes here:
1. Forum does represent the opinion of the player base. What the "silent majority" thinks is less relevant just because you don't know their opinion. Thus, the vast majority of the player base is strictly against your idea.
2. You said that implementing your idea wouldn't change anything for most players. This is wrong because it would change alot for everyone. It has been explained already, but let me outline the most important part: pvp eve is all about risk, giving a possibility to pvp without risk would ruin the idea behind eve. And it doesn't matter whether it affects the "real world" or not. To put it even simpler: if you are able to to pvp without risk, this is against the basic idea of Eve.
3. The "play a different game" suggestion is in fact the best thing you can do. Why? Simple. What you want to see doesn't belong in eve. Usually you don't come to some place that you dont like, but everyone else does, and request to change it to your liking. Eve is our game, it belongs to the players that have been loyal to it for a long time, we like it for what it is, and if you dont, don't try to change it, just move on! Especially considering there is a LOT of games that would suit your playing style!
4. Go play on test server. Read the "game development" forum to find out how to install SISI version, and play there full time. It gives you completely risk free pvp, as you can buy every ship or module on the market for 100 isk.
In short, dont come to our game and ask to change it because you dont like it. If you dont like it, sorry, try something else. ------ Originally by: Gazon In any case, the whole affair had one lasting effect: Awarding Stormriders the label of ridiculous drug addicts with a tendency towards utterly foolish actions.

Nah, the real hardcore PvP in the Starfleet Command series is Orion Pirates. Much more tactical game. People complain that EVE has a steep learning curve, but SFC:OP leaves EVE for dead...

Normally I would clearly turn the arena idea down. However, CCP hasnt been able to provide the kind of PvP intensity that would be required to make 0.0. a fun place.
It is much too easy to evade combat, be it by logging, stabs or instas.
Unless CCP greatly increases combat intensity in 0.0, this game's PvP is very boring and artificial things like an arena are required.

Please, leave the entire genre and let the door hit you in the arse on your way out. You, and your pathetic like-minded ilk, are the reason MMORPG gaming in general has degenerated into a dumbed-down, carebear mess.
It's not about being leet, or ego. It's about having dangers out there, which provide actual excitement and risk.
Get out. Now.

just had one feindishly twisted idea...
Battlegrounds in space? ugh. horrible idea. the loss of in-game time and effort is what makes it such a good thrill.
on the other hand if the people who want to be lead by the hand were to insist on such a thing.
then, by all means a new station service: Tactical Simulator. Pay the isk, and it opens into a green-screen wireframe version of elit*ahem*Eve, with vector graphics, readouts of every detail of the opponent's ships and selections, and a logging system that records all actions to be dissected later. default entry is with the ship you're in when simulator is started, anything else costs you isk.
cheese-tastic,and about the only way I'd ever stomach such a instance to exist.
hope it never gets actually implemented, mind you...

The OP isn't asking for all PvP to change, but that there are sim areas for diversionary PvP with no risk, a bit like a VR training area. I'm against the idea, and without flaming, here's why: The OP has said that there are people who will never PvP cos thay dont want to lose, so a risk free environment would give them somewhere to experience PvP without getting all their precious stuffs blown up. Fair enough HOWEVER i know for an absolute fact that many carebears who swear blind that they would never PvP try it once, get the bug, and never look back.
This risk free PvP area would dissuade many people from trying it fot real. They would never get the adrenaline rush of real PvP and would be content to stagnate in empire for their whole eve life. This would slow down expansion, take new blood away from alliances/ pvp corps. In short it would just make the game more boring FOR EVERYONE, even those the OP calims would not be affected by safe pvp areas. For that reason alone it shouldnt happen.

Actually Mr OP,
It does not really matter if the forumgoers agree or disagree with you.
We can offer advice on balance and tweaks and if they are sensible I'm sure those ideas will be listened to.
However, the dev's of EvE are passionate about the game and their vision for it. (Read up on their history) When you come in here with an idea that is so blatently *not* what EvE is about then you are just wasting your time and opening yourself up to ridicule.

At first when I began playing EVE, I didn't quite understand the dynamics of the Universe and the attraction to the game was questionable at best.
Over time, I have become quite simply amazed at the dedication and committment by the people who play EVE. Young and Old alike, EVE attracts those who enjoy the thrill of risk.
To introduce an area of NO RISK PVP, would be to alter the very fabric of the game. Like Wine, this game is an acquired taste. And like Wine, seems to age gracefully and is to be enjoyed once the fruits of your labour have been fermented.
That being said, I do not believe this idea is one that will improve the gameplay or dynamics of social interaction. Quite possibly the opposite will occur.
To put in very simple terms, EVE is Risk versus Reward.
Thank you. |

That kind of PvP would be a smash hit with people that CCP intentionally ignores in favor of big corps fighting over solar systems.
I don't want power. I dont want influence. I just want PvP where im not afraid to lose. I want PvP where my ship that took me days to put together doesn't get lost forever just because I lost a fight. That kind of loss makes pvp not fun. But I like pvp in all the other games where you don't lose stuff. Maybe if eve introduced like... battle simulation technology I wouldn't have to play a DIFFERENT GAME for my PvP fix. Cause im sure as hell not gonna pvp in eve how it is right now.
That and if any spaceship MMO competition came about and had the kind of carefree PvP im talking about... well that wouldn't be good for CCP.
Well I agree with you this game does need a battleground for multipal reasons. One of which is to determine does this game actually take skill or just SP. I think a big reason alot of you don't agree is because your intimidated by the fact that you have been playing this game for so long that a FNG {f.... new guy} can come in the game and out play you do to the fact he actually understands the PvP side of the game without putting 5 billion hours into a game. it can also help out working out alot of buggs with equipment and maybe just improve the over all pvp side of this game. for you guys who think it will ruin the world pvp of the game maybe it will improve it due to the fact people will actually give you vets a challenge. To sum this up all I have to say is there is a reason why blizzard has 7 million subscribers which = $1 billion per year.
