I hope EVE players take the appropriate tone when they talk about Legion. While some of us in DUST will survive the transition over to Legion, you should be really and truly ashamed of the company you pay monthly subs to. They demonstrated a callous disrespect for the entire player community this weekend. |

Poor bunnies, you still forget about one, quite little thing...
Dust was originally f2p with microtranscation options. It NEVER was main stream of money for CCP. EVE is the game where they are getting money from subs, occasionaly from PLEXes, and everynone is happy. You were playing on dead generation of console and now everyone is crying... Don't you forget, NO ONE ever forced you to pay microtransactions. We're paying CCP for upkeeping their studio - we're getting most updates... Stop crying - HTFU!
On the other hand, we're getting Legion on PC. Maybe I won't be 100% subscriber, but I can definietly try it. There is no good FPS on PC this time (yes, Planetside sucks - told ya!).

You Dust guys are really not very bright.
Think about the round table, go back and watch the Q&A for the Dust progression panel.
It's not a done deal, the PC stuff was a tech demo there is no product or platform choice there yet.
But they gave you the info you need. "PC Platform" JC explicitly compares how similar to PCs PS4 and Xbone are. That is your answer for now.
CCP can't say it's coming out for PS4 as there is a platform holder there. Sony might say no. There is no product to sign a deal over yet and by the sound of it there wont be for a while so no one can tell you it will be released until lawyers get involved. They can say it will run on the PC because no one controls what a developer can release on a PC, CCP self publish eve and they will be able to do that with Valkyrie and whatever comes from Legion.
Legion is clearly a new Dust implementation and Engine free of the resource limitations of PS3. That's what we got told at fanfest. The platforms it releases on will determine it's total available market. There will be a lot of PS4s out there in 2-3 years. |

If they moved EVE over to a console, I'd stop playing. The game would die because of the change, and I'd feel pretty good about that, because that would demonstrate at least an illusion of a fair and just universe. I would shrug and do something else. I probably wouldn't get anything done for a couple hours while I try to stop laughing.
Dust isn't EVE. It never has been. It's never even really been a part of EVE, at least not in a way that matters. I haven't checked today's numbers (eve-offline.net), but yesterday's showed that interest and participation in dust yesterday was pretty much the same as ever. Compare the numbers to what happened after Incarna in EVE where it almost killed off the franchise, and the devs had to fire 1/3 of their employees to stay afloat. I'd have been more pissed off as a dust player that I'd have been considered a burden to the universe, rather than being a meaningful part of it.
@Tetania: they did specifically say their focus will initially be on PC. They won't be looking into porting it until the PC version is feature complete. Of course, that's not a contract either, but it would be the best course of action either way. Maxim 34: If you're leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun. |

I said this a few times already:
did ccp mess up with how they went about with this? yes
besides that i agree with everything else. Dust needs to go to pc, be a meaningful part of the eve universe, and this way they can update all three games as they see fit. and have better control over them. Legion does;t need to go to console. it should be a subscription fee that is added to eve, play eve, legion and valk for $20 a month or something. |

The problem is, EVE will never need to be moved to a console. On the contrary there are reasons why dust needs to be moved to PC. You see the point ? That is what console players don't realize atm. Dust is struggling in every way, they have hard time already optimizing the performance as it is today. It only makes sense. The thing is they did not betray anyone. People's own false facts betray themselves ... dust would never become anything close to what EVE is today if continued primarily on a console. More so what Dust and EVE will become. |

The thing is, there would never ever be a real reason to move EVE from PC to a console... Dust was moved to PC because of a real reasons in the first place... not because of some bad idea that some console players like to think, that they were betrayed or whatever. It haven't been part of EVE Universe from just a simple fact, that it was on a console, therefore had to be moved to PC. |

Yea, problem is PS4 would eventually bring limitations as well, which would limit what they can do on a PC side.. again. They don't want this to happen again as it happened with Dust, as it slowly became a crutch, because of a console, that has been limiting everything from the start, especially the real vision, not just vision for Dust but for entire EVE Universe. |

Just as easy to ask where is your 11 year old PC? Face facts eve's system requirements has expanded since then. I agree most consoles will be limited. They have a shelf life of about 5 years before they need to be replaced. That being said its not like they couldnt attempt to overhall and port it over in that time frame.
The real issue is what fps is still alive 5-10 years after release? Legion is going to have to be fully intergrated to matter and survive that long. |

That 11 year old PC can still play EVE with a ~50$ upgrade for a new GFX card. EVE is not particularly demanding game you know ;)
Besides, putting Dust on console in the first place was a mistake. All that potential castrated by hardware limitations. Also, DUST will be on PS3 for a little while more. Just will not get those features it's hardware cant take. I mean c'mon even my phone has more RAM than that thing. Sure you can run 1 client of eve on a 11 year old computer with everything turned down or off. Is that still running the game?
If your running 3-4 clients you need a bigger rig. Also yes you can continue to upgrade your computer. If you take your stock computer and double its ram replace the motherboard and cpu with the newest best one you can afford its no longer the same computer. Its just the same case.
Yes consoles dont get that. they are by design a 5-7 year model. They dont want you to be able to do better because they lose money on you not getting the newest greatest thing. I wouldnt be suprised if Legion ends up on the PS4 as well as the PC.
Dust users already proved they would throw money at the game. |

EVE is a 1 Hz game ;) And it can be surprising how much clients one can run on modest hardware. I remember my purprise when my previous rig was able to pull off 10 clients at pretty decent frame rate - and that was with just a single 5770 as a GFX card.
EVE is anyway just spreadsheets in space and GFX is overrated :D - ofc it looks graphically amazing you you really put it full screen on a single client, sit back and marvel at it but who got time for that.
Anyway - I would not be surprised if that Legion thing would be indeed available also on PS4. It is architecturally similar enough to PC so porting should not be too bad (considering UT4 engine is also on PS4) and atm it's specs wise in the upper end of "average" PC people play on. If Steam HW survey would be giving more or less accurate cross section of "gaming PC" on the market. what i think bothered a lot of people was the fact that for the past few months ccp was promoting in game events that encouraged the playerbase to invest heavily into boosters- the equivalent to a subscription.
players spent a lot of real money investing into a game that they thought would stick around. that's what ccp, or at least the old team had told them.
at the same time ccp had told the cpm for dust of what they'd planned and made no attempt to inform the playerbase of what was to come at fanfest. even inviting the playerbase to fanfest, players that only played dust.
yeah, we all know this **** should have been released on pc and we knew it was doing bad. but those dust bunnys had hope, they stuck to the game and they were loyal to the developers.
ccp should have been more transparent. a lot of people feel betrayed and ripped off (even getting charge backs thru sony). that's great that they're going to move forward with dusts future, but the way they did it was the problem.
ps: this isn't me being butthurt or anything. i spent 10$ in three months on dust and that was mostly to use whatever little aurum i had left. the game didnt feel worth it to me, and i'd be happy to hear about the legion news under normal circumstances, but the way they did it made me lose interest. |

I see that few people are able to understand how PC architecture shapes gaming and why is it different from console gaming.
First, PC is synonymous with compatibility, when consoles have changed radically and that is the reason why console gaming suck, there is just too big gap between console hardware for games like EVE and DUST, when you want to update your game over the years and PS3 was a terribad choice. You know it now, sooner or later you would know. CCP is not EA. They were struggling to produce one game for a 7 years. When weapons, technology, and economies mature faster than the leadership culture entrusted with them, disaster ensues.

Gotto love the Eve fanbois that think Dusters are crying about other stuff.
Word from the FF is that CCP didnt have any plans for Dust for a long time and yet they promoted the AUR events.

So why I can play software that was developed 11 year ago on a machine that is one year old? PC is compatible backward and forward, because you have x86 and x86-64 architecture, operating systems that use the same processors and can emulate one enother, and you have a set of rules, that people who are making consoles did not care about and PS3 is a great example of that.

So their hardware is specialized, so much that you can't get scalability, flexibility and backward compatibility. Too bad. When weapons, technology, and economies mature faster than the leadership culture entrusted with them, disaster ensues.

ROFL! Backward compatibility is a function of the software or your OS. Your PC is hardware running on an OS which provides functionality for backward compatibility. There is no forward compatibility. It is called scalability. Scaleability is a function of both hardware and software. LOL !
When I say a PC is scaleable it means that you can add more CPU or RAM or Disk Space or anything else. However its bottleneck is the OS and kernels OS assigns to applications.
Bagrat Skalski wrote: So their hardware is specialized, so much that you can't get scalability, flexibility and backward compatibility. Too bad.
Yeeeeeeuuuuuupppppp. But since its OS only ONE KERNEL it can dedicate all its resources to its Kernel. This makes it superior to a PC when it comes to gaming.
A Linux machine running on 512 MB of RAM is faster than a Windows machine running on 4 GB of RAM.

You enjoy your low res textures and simplified models buddy. I am glad that you did not bring in Cell GFLOPS because no one already cares about it. When weapons, technology, and economies mature faster than the leadership culture entrusted with them, disaster ensues.

Yep! Enjoy your burning trees and sub par gameplay. I'm pretty sure your measure of gun game is playing the Campaign version of shooters in Easy mode.
Its way easier when there is no one to shoot back at ya!

I have been a competetive level gamer since Resistance 2. I have actually taken part in FPs tournaments and won some.
What I have seen from all this and personal experience is that all the good gamers love competetion. They love playing with and against more players in different spaces which include arcade gaming. The crappy ones stick to their clutces like wanting games to be PC only. By you asking for any game to be PC only I know where you stand. Unlike you I strive to be better.
Legion is all yours mate! Have fun shooting them AI drones down. Hopefully they will have an ID 10 T mode for you.

This toon of mine is a 25 million SP Miner/Indy toon. And yep... I agree with you if it tough work using ALT + TAB watching AOT while my machinaw mines and my Orca buddy waits for me to jettison my goods. Takes a lot of teamwork, cooperation and patience to do that!
Always remember even though people say there is no I in a TEAM look closely at the A-Hole and you will find it there.

Well, my whole experience with tournaments was a second place in local unreal tournament deathmach in my school years, then I did made some competitive gaming in Battlefield Play4Free. I can't say I was bad, because I was not. I am just a decent FPS player, that is all, and I will wait for Legion, shooting drones or other players, does not matter, if I am having fun, its worth my money. I have a life you know, and being the best rotflstomping neckbeard in a society of rotflstomping neckbeards is not my priority in life.
Good luck with striving to be better in some other game then. When weapons, technology, and economies mature faster than the leadership culture entrusted with them, disaster ensues.

players spent a lot of real money investing into a game that they thought would stick around. that's what ccp, or at least the old team had told them.
at the same time ccp had told the cpm for dust of what they'd planned and made no attempt to inform the playerbase of what was to come at fanfest. even inviting the playerbase to fanfest, players that only played dust.
yeah, we all know this **** should have been released on pc and we knew it was doing bad. but those dust bunnys had hope, they stuck to the game and they were loyal to the developers.
ccp should have been more transparent. a lot of people feel betrayed and ripped off (even getting charge backs thru sony). that's great that they're going to move forward with dusts future, but the way they did it was the problem.
ps: this isn't me being butthurt or anything. i spent 10$ in three months on dust and that was mostly to use whatever little aurum i had left. the game didnt feel worth it to me, and i'd be happy to hear about the legion news under normal circumstances, but the way they did it made me lose interest.
It is alarming how many EVE players don't understand this. For the record, DUST was garbage and I haven't seriously played it since beta. I have wanted it to shut down for a while now.
However, this has NOTHING TO DO with them shutting it down. It is HOW they did it. CCP basically proved that they don't care about DUST players at all. A company with complete disregard for their customers will have no issue doing the same thing to another product (such as EVE) as soon as they decide it isn't profitable enough/they want to prototype a new toy that will conflict with it. It is just disgusting business practice, and seeing so many EVE players gloat about it kind of makes me feel ashamed to be part of this community for the last 7 years. |

I'm going to slightly disagree. CCP cares, the issue is, i think they either had no idea that this was the reaction they were going to get, or they seriously have no clue what to do with dust. They completely dropped the ball at fan fest. And honestly should of announced legion WAY before, or shown what was coming for dust then taken the last 30 min (key note was suppose to be 90 min) and show legion. shrugs
The eve player son the other hand don;t give a flying **** about dust. And why should they? it never made a difference to them, it did not benefit or hurt them, it was just there. Eve players feel that money spent on dust should of been spent on fixing pos' etc. OR dust should of been MORE integrated. I'm glad legion is coming, if only that maybe ccp will link in a way that makes me WANT to give a crap about it. I understand that ccp was fearful that if dust was tied to eve too much, and it went under it would drag eve with it. But they REALLY should take the plunge and tangle them together. Otherwise make it stand alone game that is not remotely tied to eve at all, none of this half assed middle ground hat snot really middle ground |
