- First - People are going to stop pointing fingers and blaming people. CCP will investigate and take any action against game accounts, along with any legal action that we feel necessary. This is already in progress.
- Second - This is damage of public property in the City of Reykjavik. The police have been informed, and investigation is ongoing. This is not a laughing matter, and will be dealt with as a criminal offence. We are currently reviewing security footage from a number of surrounding buildings.
- Third - People will stop attacking the victim of this on our forums. It's not funny, it's not clever. Take your rumor mongering and personal attacks away from our community. If you choose not to, you'll be removed from the community, permanently. It's a simple as that. We will not tolerate victimization.
What's happened is absolutely disgusting. It's an insult to the entire community and is clearly the work a person who believes that behavior in a virtual world is a valid reason to make a real life personal attack on someone, and deface public property. We will not tolerate this. Thankfully we've already had a number of players come forward to assist us and provide information. Including, we believe, members of the person's own alliance. Thankfully the vast majority of the rest of the community are in the same frame of mind as CCP - disgusted at the fact that someone would do this, and we're extremely grateful for your assistance. With that in mind, I'll make a simple one time offer, that if the person who defaced the monument wants to come forward and contact me relating to this, then they can do so by EVE mailing my Dev character. If this happens, we'll take it as a gesture of good faith after an extremely stupid act that was committed. With this in mind, be sure to keep this thread on topic, and cut out the personal attacks and finger pointing. People who break the rules will lose their forum posting privileges. Permanently. Thanks.
Let start by saying I've been a loyal EVE player for years, I think this type of act, in game and out of game is absolute BS.
That being said, this is what you get when CCP encourages the scum of society to play EVE because they can do these type of activities in game with great anonymity, and you CCP have encouraged the community to embrace this type of activity as apart of the eve culture and made cheating, scamming, defacing and even harassment as part of your gameplay. Do you really think people will draw the line at internet spaceship fun?

The monument is a result of ccp taking itself way to seriously. That someone tagged the monument with an alliance logo imo actually gives that monument significance and a real connection to the game and the players. Would certainly be "cool," again imo, if it became a fanfest tradition for folk to sneak out there and tag it with your alliance/corp logo.
edit - didnt realize that the op was talking about the scratching out of someone's name as opposed to the alliance tag that happened earlier. Opps. I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

Bullshit. This event is no evidence of anything other than the fact that one person is criminally stupid. If a fraction of what you typed was true, the Government of Icleand would have banned Fanfest by now because of all the murders and arson that occurs as a result....you know, the things that don't happen. The peacefulness of fanfest is actual proof that the kind of game CCP has made is irrelevant to real life bad behavior.
I really do find it shameful when someone tries to pin whatever irrational hatred to an event that has nothing to do with it. What you posted is like what some crazy religious folks say in my country, ie "see America, that soldier died because your society is corrupt and allows homosexual behavior".....

Yes. And if they can't manage to be adults about this videogame, then they aren't welcome.

Some of us actually possess the ability to separate a videogame from real life. The community here is one of the best I have ever encountered, despite your tearful assertion that being allowed to be bad guys in internet spaceships somehow makes us bad people in real life. Juliete is right (of course, you'd have to look past your irrational goon-hate to notice lol).
In my state, this is the criminal mischief (vandalism) law.
Intentionally or knowingly damaged someone elseGÇÖs property Intentionally or knowingly tampering with someone elseGÇÖs property causing loss or substantial inconvenience, or Intentionally making marks, graffiti, inscriptions, or drawings on the property of another.
A sticker would not be considered criminal mischief (CM) unless it's placement or removal caused physical damage or created some kind of inconvenience. If I wrote someone a CM citation for putting a sticker on something not only would the court throw it out but my boss would probably get a not so friendly phone call from a dude in a black robe about wasting the court's time. |

I realize you are an NPC corp posting alt with only 1 post, and maybe I'm falling for your troll attempt or whatever forum warrior shenanigans you might be up to, but...
Your post is simply victim blaming. Also, people draw the line at spaceship fun all of the time. People are able to play a game and leave it in the game, because... it is a game. I like this game. I don't think CCP needs to change this game because an immature person does something immature/destructive in real life. I also think it is tasteless to go to someone after their property has been defaced and go, "You kinda deserved this."
Also, a note about games: When I play Monopoly, I am not "cruel in real life" for collecting my rents and bankrupting someone, or passing the dice along so that someone is "scammed" out of their money because they didn't notice me landing on their property before the next player rolls. When I play something like Vampire: The Masquerade, I am not a monster for real (it's called "Role Playing"). Some games, however, are not to my tastes. I don't concoct theories about the negative societal effects of these games because they are not to my tastes, I simply let people have their fun while I do other things with my life. |

I am seriously disappointed and in fact angry at this act of high retardation. I would want the person responsible made to pay for the repairs and then charged by the local police for Vandalism. No he would not get jail time obviously but the full remit of punishment for this offence must be used. ( Fine, Banning Order, Community Work,)
I feel let down that a co-player of EVE has denigrated the monument that CCP put up for all of us. We as players have a unique relationship with CCP and them with us.
They must be upset in CCP HQ that they spent time and money on this and they are repaid by an act of malevolence. Luckily they will know that 99% of EVE players leave their nefariousness at the keyboard!
I am not interested in a public naming and shaming or a witch-hunt. I just want the person dealt with and then a CCP announcement saying " Case closed " and the Sculpture is repaired and wholly intact.
As an aside maybe some security measures will have to be taken to prevent copy cat attacks etc , more expense for CCP.
Good job you cretin. |

*sigh* You indeed made me look up the relevant parts of (at least my) local law (german "Sachbesch+ñdigung") as well as english law (Property damage)
At its core, it's about 'damage' - if you do something to a thing, that can, without any permanent marks, easily be undone, you are not damaging that thing.
Btw, the punishment for property damage in germany can be 'up to two years in prison' (-º303 StGb) - definatly not a laughting matter, as CCP Falcon said. |
