What a shame.
Legion would have been a good opportunity to update the game to use Unreal Engine 4. |

Correction! It is a heavily modified version of U3 .
Y'all dont believe me when I say that the Legion prototype is nothing by a copy and paste of the 2009 E3 version of the game with the addition of burning trees. |

Devs said they don't need to use U4 because they already made everything they were going to want. Playing Dust is a must! One Universe \\ One War Dust News Reporter

It would probably also delay the game another 3 or 4 years. |

It is not all about which engine has the best graphics.
Unreal 4 provides modern game development tools which speed up the developing process. Modern tools would allow CCP to make future expansions and updates faster than with the old engine.
Yes, the engine update would require lot of work, but I think that in the long run it would be worth it. |

Oh Silly Billy... If the Devs made everything they want in U3 why is Legion a prototype?
Shouldnt the game already be out? |

What? The 2009 E3 demo's engine was made in-house. It being scrapped is the reason why DUST took so long to be released. |

you do realize what the concept of prototype is right? Legion is only a prototype because offically CCP has not said they are going to make it. It will remaine a prototype untill its gets green lite, then it becomes a becomes a product.

Does not matter for a prototype. Might matter further down the line in 2-4 years while UE3 depreciates. |

They can always modify things and upgrade to UE4 once they get the go ahead. Why spend money for a license when you already have one available to use for testing? |

business decision. cost vs benefit. wasted asset of developed product + cost of starting over on engine customization vs value of desired features in new engine.
I'm not a dev. I'm especially not a CCP dev and don't have the faintest idea of what kind of work they've put into the engine. However, I assume that with a full development team and the limited gameplay dust has, they've got something like 4-5 years worth of dev time just in the engine itself. You think they'll throw that away and start over without having made any real profit from it? Unlikely to happen unless the benefit will outweigh the cost. I have my own team of Devs working with one of the top banks in the world. I know what a prototype or a POC is.
With that said I still stand by CTRL + C and CTRL + V for Legion! |

You can really push and modify the Unreal Engine 3. Plus most of their back end already exist. I personally prefer the Unreal Engine 4 development tools over UDK and UR3 but the engine still has life in it and still can look very immersive. Plus the fact that CCP is streamlining the Eve Universe on the PC is just fantastic. { I support Project Legion on the PC } |

i'm sure part of this is true, as already said, why toss away years of development if you can keep the bones and repair things that never worked right and get a product out faster? I guess we will see ones its released 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

DX 9.0c MMOFPS shooter in 2015? Is it not a bit dated at this point? I would expect it at least reasonably support DX 11 - hell even EVE sort of does.
Or does these "heavy modifications" also include DX 11 support? DX 11 is much more than a bit of tesselation - as far as I understand it involves also a much better resource management and multi-threading support. Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. |

Yes, the engine update would require lot of work, but I think that in the long run it would be worth it. The thing is, most fo those "development tools" CCP already put the effort into integrating themselves into UE3, so transferring the game to UE4 would be a whole lot of extra development and rewrite work for no net benefit. |

Still it could be the next fundamental mistake after releasing DUST 514 on a old console.
