Not EVE: Babylon Wars. Sounds silly.
Vote for EVE: Odessey, that sounds good.
EVE: Tactics. EVE: Ragnarok. EVE: Oracle.
Hrmmm, more as I think of them -----------------------------------------------

I like EVE: Tactics.
First Genesis is nixed, and Combat Evolved is too much of a stab at "Halo: Combat Evolved," Oracle is nixed.
Anarchy is a possibility, Odyssey is a possibility, I like the Ragnarok vibe but it might not fit with the actual storyline, Second Generation sounds a little too much like Second Genesis (which is the "event" that took place at the beginning of the EVE storyline, basically.)
So from the recent suggestions I'm limiting it to these options:
EVE: Tactics EVE: Anarchy EVE: Odyssey EVE: Ragnarok
And @sarabando: Minmatar ships will probably be put in the game last because they need to be retextured. Gallente have the most ships in game out of any race though, with the Megathron, Navitas, Tristan, Thanatos, and Erebus already in. -----

Originally by: Zatch Also I'd like to point out that there is one huge inconsistency with the EVE storyline that, hopefully, won't bother too many of you: we will be including titans, motherships, carriers, et. al. Note however that they may not be necessary for the campaign game, but they will definitely be included in skirmishes and multiplayer battles.
Id just like to point out that the empires have had this ships for a long time... its only in the last few years eve time that the corps/alliances have been able to aquire them.Linkage

Someone on the homeworld forums suggested "Ashes of Babylon" and I think that sounds a whole load better than "Babylon Wars".

Edited by: Zatch on 06/11/2006 14:56:54 I have a new screenshot for ya, this one is the Incursus: linky
Sorry I forgot to turn on anti-aliasing for that pic, I'll have it on when I take a screenshot of the fully armed and operational Incursus. ;)
Also I'm getting much faster at adapting the textures and models for HW2 (the Incursus went from the EVE client to HW2 in about 40 minutes, without guns.) It takes an additional hour or so to collect all of the gun parts, assemble them, and rig them so they animate properly, which is why you might be seeing several ships without guns (I assure you I'm still putting the guns on, just so eager to share screenies.) -----

A purely out-of-interest question, how are you putting combat drones into the game? Will they spawn as new units, or act more like the marine pods (only doing actual damage) or.....er.....well, whatever?
I've been wondering about that one for a wee little while now -----------------------------------------------

DuckM4n please take your spam elsewhere.
As for combat drones, we're not sure yet but they'll probably be restricted to only the drone specialty boats and they'll work something like the hive frigate's drones in HW:C. -----

Edited by: Zatch on 07/11/2006 19:54:30 I can't provide a timeframe yet because I'm just handling the models, textures, and ship/weapon scripting. Our campaign scripters haven't shown anything yet and our UI scripter (who is also our music guy) is pretty busy with other projects it seems.
As for a progress %, I'll give a rough breakdown:
Campaign: 0% UI: 0% Ships and Weapons: * Minmatar: 0% * Caldari: 5% * Gallente: 25% * Amarr: 10%
Progress % doesn't include balancing, since that will be handled when everything is already in the game (balancing on paper is a good general guideline, but practical balancing can't be done until all factors are prepared for testing.)
Also it's hard for me to give a timeframe even for the things that I'm taking care of, because I have schoolwork to attend to on an irregular basis. -----

we all know that TomB will insist that it be nammed:
"EVE: War of the Nerf-Bat"
I'd think Hammer would lean toward:
"EVE: Boobies of Doom"
Oveur would likely pick:
"EVE: The Empire Strikes Beer"
Wrangler’s choice would obviously be
“EVE: -message deleted-"

Edited by: Zatch on 09/11/2006 08:15:34 Here's an anti-aliased 1680x1050 screenshot of the Incursus with all 3 light neutron blasters fitted (thus 6 hardpoints.) Linky!
I'll be spending the rest of the night working on the ship families and weapon penetration values (simulating EVE resists.) For those of you who are skeptical about whether it is possible to implement EVE-style resists or not, I'll explain my process:
Tech 1 Gallente ships are typically armor-tankers, we need to make this generalization because it reduces lag by reducing the number of ship families we have. The basic armor resist layout for a Tech 1 Gallente ship's armor without hardeners is: 60% EM -- 10% Explosive -- 35% Kinetic -- 35% Thermal.
In HW2 we are restricted to a single "penetration" value based on the target's armor class, so we can't do a damage-type specific resist value. However, we can perfectly simulate multiple resists with a single penetration value as follows:
Using Small Lead Charges in a Light Neutron Blaster I
Raw Damage: 3.5 * 5 Kinetic + 3.5 * 3 Thermal = 28 Total Raw Damage
Resist-corrected Damage: 5 Kin damage * 0.65 (from 35% Kinetic resist) = 3.25 Kin 3 Therm damage * 0.65 = 1.95 Therm Total = 3.25 + 1.95 = 5.2 Total base damage. Base * 3.5 = 18.2 Total Resisted Damage
Penetration = (Total Resisted Damage) / (Total Raw Damage) Penetration = 18.2 / 28 = 0.65 -----

Edited by: Zatch on 09/11/2006 11:26:59 Edited by: Zatch on 09/11/2006 11:25:05 I took a break from scripting and decided to finalize the glowmaps on the Erebus. I didn't combine the Erebus's base texture with the tiled glow texture that creates those little green specks all over the ship, until tonight. So here for your visual enjoyment is the Erebus: link (1680x1050 @ 8xFSAA)
Just so you can see how we've progressed, here's a screenshot I took about 1 month ago of the Erebus before fixing the colors, adding the glowmaps, and changing the HW2 shaders to give it that nice metallic shine: Old pic -----

It wasn't "sucky" it just wasn't for the lame leetspeak-in-words conunterstrike playerbase that you are so clearly a member of. Besides, the plot was awesome.
