Bump for an absolutely stunning mod
The geddon screenshots - If it hadn't been for the little "R" in the bottom corner I would've thought it was EVE. Props to your modeller and skinner. I hope to be able to say the same for the scripts, but I won't until you release it - hurry the **** up
I salute you o7 ----------------------------------------------- New sig coming SoonÖ |

Are the weapons going to track and fire like they did in the original? One thing I loved doing was to zoom in and watch my ships engaging the enemy. Watching the turrets tracking and firing, seeing the incoming shots, Just made the game awesome.

Edited by: Zatch on 09/10/2006 20:23:45 Yep, all of the turrets will track like they do in EVE except in HW2 they have a visible maximum tracking speed (if a target is moving too fast, the turrets may not be able to aim properly, which is the way it should be.)
Also I'd like to point out again that all of the textured models were extracted from the client, our modellers created an Executioner, Punisher, Caracal, Kestrel, and a few others but we never got around to texturing them. And yes, we do have permission from CCP as stated a few pages back (with a more detailed explanation of course.)
And here's another screenshot of the geddon that shows the turrets pointing at their target: http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/4866/ss00047mk4.jpg
Note that they're not all missing the mothership, they're shooting the other geddons behind the MS. ;-) -----

Yes Mtthias Clemi, it is. I put it in as a proof-of-concept, but I don't think we'll be keeping it in the mod unless it is some sort of easter-egg hidden in a campaign map. We'll talk to CCP about it when the mod is nearing completion. :)
Also I'm sorry for the lack of updates, it's been pretty slow-going over the last week. -----

Edited by: Zatch on 14/10/2006 14:04:24 The Thanatos (Gallente Carrier) is now in the game, with proper glow-maps on the texture. Now it just needs nav-lights, dockpaths, and color adjustments.
screenie
Edit: And just so you all know I'm not colorblind, this is a chunk of the Thanatos texture: linky
The color is much different ingame because of the map lighting. When we start creating custom maps for the mod, we'll have a little more variation in the lighting colors (other than the default HW2 orange orange ORANGE EVERYWHERE color scheme.) The Erebus appears pinkish for the same reason. -----

Edited by: Zatch on 15/10/2006 08:24:39 I know you all are just dying for some new goodies, so here's a video showing the ships with a modified shader applied (to increase the specular highlights beyond what you see in stock HW2)
link (12MB) -- right-click, Save as...
Note: video uses the x264 codec, which is included with VLC Media Player, a multi-platform open-source media player. No I won't re-encode it in WMV or anything silly like that. -----

Edited by: Zatch on 16/10/2006 08:10:06 A small update: the Punisher has been partially rigged. The specular and color maps are done, the glow maps are missing a few small pieces, and the guns aren't rigged yet. Screenie: here.
I have classes to attend in about 7 hours so I need to get some sleep. I hope to have the textures finished as well as the guns mounted some time Monday night. Would 3x Dual Light Pulse Laser Is be reasonable, or is there a more popular setup? I don't fly Amarrian ships often so I'm no expert.
Edit: Also those prongs extending backwards from the bottom of the ship's nose need to be fixed, that'll be done with the rest of the final texture-tweaking work. -----

I just had to post... those ported ships look awesome.
I was afraid they wont present themselves good in HW, seeing as its completely different engine. But frack me, they look just like in EVE... hell, they look better than that! Glad you managed to get proper specular in HW.
I think the Thanatos texture actually seems to be better in HW than in EVE... somehow EVE engine makes it look very low quality. |

I think (allthough im probbly wrong) that the programs to make modles for both the game are the same. Im not an expert though. I would guess this is why they look just asgood in both.

I was reffering to textures and lightning. If you remember unmodified homeworld, there werent any specular for example (or at least it was so toned down that it was hard to notice), while many, if not all, EVE ships have specular maps. I guess lightning implementation in EVE is also different.
If you look at stock homeworld ships, their textures are more... cartoonish, for a lack of better word. Sharp lines, saturated colors, clean surfaces, clearly defined details. EVE ships have much more... well, realistic textures. Furnished or worn out metal, minmatar junk, you name it

Edited by: Zatch on 17/10/2006 01:41:03 Maya is used for exporting the ships in the proper format, but that has nothing to do with the textures. The textures we've extracted from the EVE client come with 4 channels: Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha. Now the Alpha channel seems to be used for masking out which sections of the texture will have one of the special EVE shaders applied, whether it's a shiny metallic shader or a bright glowing bit. This is the first time I've ever worked with shaders so I'm learning as I go along, but I do at least know how to use Photoshop to play with the base textures.
The textures that we extract directly from the client do not look like what you see in the game, because of all the shaders and lighting effects. That's why I was asking for screenshots of the capital ships earlier, I can't fly them so I can't see what they actually look like on test, and the number of screenshots already out there is sadly very low for some of the ships (especially Caldari capships.) -----

As mentioned before we aren't remodelling the ships from scratch any more, we're extracting them from the client. Most of the work lies with rigging the models, adapting the textures to the HW2 engine, and loads of scripting. -----

Edited by: Zatch on 05/11/2006 11:20:11 Hello again fellow EVE and HW2 fans, I don't have new screenshots for you yet but I would like some input on our mod name. On the Relic forums a user proposed "EVE: The Babylon Wars" which I took a liking to because it fits with the biblically-influenced EVE update titles. So I'd like a vote, yea or nay for the mod's title being EVE: The Babylon Wars. If you have a serious suggestion that fits with the naming scheme for the official EVE updates, and you don't like "The Babylon Wars," please post it here. I've had to make a judgment call and will only accept names that are chronologically suitable and have some sort of biblical connection (I'm no religious zealot, I just like the idea of having this mod named in a manner similar to EVE proper.)
Remember that the mod's campaign will take place during the Minmatar/Amarr and Gallente/Caldari wars. That means pre-Exodus.
Also I'd like to point out that there is one huge inconsistency with the EVE storyline that, hopefully, won't bother too many of you: we will be including titans, motherships, carriers, et. al. Note however that they may not be necessary for the campaign game, but they will definitely be included in skirmishes and multiplayer battles. -----
