Well, I just started level 4 missions, so can only really speak of 3 and under. I got some decent loot from time to time doing level 3 missions. Nothing faction. But, would get things worth maybe 300K or so. Every now and again get something worth a million.
What frustrated me is I would see all of these dread guristas ships, but not one of them would drop loot. The least they could do would be to drop some faction ammo once in a while...but no, nothing.
I was doing Guristas Extravaganza level 4 the other day and was trying to do the bonus area because eveinfo.com said there was faction loot there. What they didn't say is that they used warp scramblers...lol Ended up losing my Raven.

I got a +1 charisma implant from a can the other day, does that count?
Just kidding - I found arlabest launchers, modulated energy beams or scout artillery. Not the really valuable stuff like officer mods, but I have seen people writing they found such things. Generally I think missions can drop valuable stuff, but with a smaller frequency than non-mission ratting.

Have had some nice stuff
5% ice mining implant, Arbalest siege and cruise launchers, 27.44% cargo expanders all sorts of stuff. Trouble is I am getting lazy and dont loot as much as I used to just want to blast through them and get a navy Raven offer. -----------------------------------------------

Thypicaly I tend to get good loot when doing missions that involves killing navy ships. After Enemies abound I got a few moda and anode guns, one modal neutron and one modal ion iirc. Not to mention a dimishing nos. Seem to be more or less on pair with belt rats ________________________________________________

Edited by: Tryptic Photon on 30/05/2006 19:59:52 Off the top of my head I've gotten the best loot from level 2 missions. Don't know why but haven't really gotten anything great from level 3.
Level 2 "Gone Berserk" popped a low-grade Snake Gamma implant. My corp mate got the same thing on the same mission the other day, something about this mission... I've also gotten Type D Expander SS from "Silence the Informant", Arbalest launchers from "Human Cattle" and others, the occasional nice named railguns or hardeners.
So I still check every can. Bookmark the area, come back in an Exeq w/nanofibers, a/b, to scoop more efficiently.

Did a lvl 4 with a corp mate and got an extra spawn that wasn't listed on the mission site I used. It was a dread pith commander and another BS that wasn't all that great. The commander had a 4.5 mil bounty and dropped about 30-40 mil in faction loot. It was the first lvl 4 we did and the only one so far to drop that much awesome loot. Is this how some people get such large ammounts of isk/loot from lvl4's and are extra spawns like this at random?

Best loot i ever got from a regular mission was a Low Grade Slave Alpha implant. Best I ever got from a storyline was a Domination Invul Field. And that's it for faction loot.
Get good named items everyonce in awhile, arbalast launchers, fleeting props, stuff like that.
It's always good to check the market on stuff you aren't familiar with. I almost reprocessed some ECCM mod the other day, then checked the market. It was worth like 10 mil.

I got about 30 million in loot from the second part of 'Illegal Drugs' (A level 2 Caldari mission chain). Granted, 26 million of that was from a "Local Hull Conversion Expanded Cargo I"... but yeah... that was nice to see after losing a Ferox to a pirate in 0.4 space.

Just a week ago I did 1 lvl 4 mission and got the uber-nice, semi-rare dread guristas spawn. I looted it afterwards and found a t2 implant called Crystal Epsillion worth roughly 300 million isk. Oh happy days....
Sold that sucker and got myself a new BS + t2 fittings to play with. Now that's awesome looting! But that is the exception to the rule. I'd say about 90% of what I loot gets melted down to minerals, which go to building my ammo for free. That way I avoid cutting into bounty profits with expenses of blowing up the ships.
Getting Amarr industrial skill and science IV was the best thing I ever did for looting, because now I can use a sigil with nanofibers, AB, and 2 tractor beams. You wouldn't believe how much time that saves. Looting is a snap.

While I have not done a lvl 3 in a while I can say my lvl 4 missions average from 25mil to 50mil in loot. Most of it is garbage (yes... I loot it ALL ) but I just refine that and build something useful out of it. I do remember once getting a +3 Perception Implant dropped from a non-named NPC in a lvl 3 mission too. You want loot? Get you faction up and do COSMOS and lvl 4 Storyline missions. As I see it good loot comes one in every 12 missions, all the rest are for mins and hull upgrades for my Iteron loot-can-gathering machine.

Gallente/Serpentis are the most prone to dropping good loot as they offer the occasional named expander. Other loot tends to be crap, with the exception of the rare implant or the even more rare commander spawn in gone Berserk/blockade etc.

like most lvl's you get a random chance of getting good loot but you get more chance on higher lvl's due to the amount of rats/npc's blowing up buildings help i am doing lvl4's and normally get over 10 mill in loot per mission but some mission's its the bounty over loot and other missions its loot over the bountys, as for the poeple that are not getting the good loot any more Do'h pick it up and there are more poeple doing lvl4's so your chance's of getting the good loot depends on how fast you kill the rats i been getting skill book worth 2+ mill each and some mods over 4 mill isk so stop reading forums and get on with the game

Edited by: Arakasai on 31/05/2006 16:05:10 It is worth more to go run another mission rather than loot. The problem is that people cannot get the very rare expensive loot items off their minds and convince themselves that it is worth it to loot.
Save yourself the hassle, unless you enjoy looting just skip it and do another mission instead. Time is better spent that way.
Now, to short circuit all the folks that are going to come on here and tell me I am wrong because they "Believe" it rather than "Know" it.
I track my missions (I tracked them for a month, looting every mission to figure it out): 1. I track my mission reward 2. I track my bonus reward 3. I track my LP to isk numbers 4. I track my bounty numbers 5. I track my loot (Refine/Sell) numbers 6. I track the time it takes to complete a mission 7. I track the time it takes to loot a mission
I actually track the numbers, I don't just "feel" one way or the other is better. Track it yourself and I imagine you will agree with me.
NOTE: 1. There are a couple of missions worth looting, they are the exception to the rule. 2. I have a tractor beam on my Raven: I loot BattleShips and named NPCs if it is convinient. I never spend time looting just to loot anymore. 3. I have Negotiation IV and both pertinent book skills to IV as well.

My best drop has been a Hardwiring - Inherent Implants 'Highwall' HX-2 -- a +5% mining yield implant. This was on a Level 4 Revenge is Sweet mission and dropped from the named NPC Kyokan.
I'm not much of a miner, so it's currently on auction.
Apart from that not much in 120+ Gallente level 4s, though I've just been offered a +4 implant from a storyline mission.
Cheers, Arrs.

I've gotten decent loot with enough of a pattern now that I only check certain cans/missions.
L2 Silence the Informant, I always check the structures at the end. While they're normally terrible hardwires, I have gotten a couple 3-4mil hardwires.
Any mission with Caracal style NPCs, be it Mercs, Mordus, Pith, Guristas. Have gotten 6x XR-3200, 5x Arby Heavy, many many arby, limos, funny (xr, oe, sv, te) heavy, standard, assault launchers.
Any mission with Blackbird looking NPCs, got a bunch of named Hypnos Multi ECMs from them.
Any mission where you notice an NPC NOS'ing you. Have gotten 2x E50 med nos, 1x small diminishing, 1x med diminishing this way.
The Roden shipyard freighters in IA, got a few expanders from this.
L3 Angel Strike storyline series. Got +3 social, +3 willpower, +3 perc from this series.
Too many others to list.

On Rogue Slave Traders, I once saw that an 8 mill Rat spawned. When I killed him I got looted some Dark Blood T2 Laser Crystals and a Dark Blood Large Armour Repairer.
I'd call that pretty decent loot. BUt it's rare. DAMN rare. IMO, good loot should be a BIT more common for mission runners.

My best finds are Low-Grade Crystal Gamma implant on a L2 and a Domination Photon hardener. $140 million and $12 million each. I recycle about 95% of the junk they give me, but that weekly haul to Jita nets a hefty sum-junk adds up.

Well i use a domi for running missions, and ive got a tractor beam. It makes general looting quite easy. I sit in one spot most of the time, the npc's generally like to get within 20km most of the time so ill be looting while im killing. Right from the first ship to explode ill target the can and start hauling it in. The only problem comes when you run out of cargo space, so you just pop everything but your ammo out in a jetcan and BM it and continue hauling. The end result is you finish a mission with a maximum of 5% extra time spent looting, and it will take all of 5 minutes extra in a hauler to pick up the 1-2 full cans in space afterwards.

IMO, if its not worthwhile to loot, then your doing one of two things.
1) looting badly. that is, your doing something other than a cargo-heavy ship, with at least one or two tractor beams, and nanofibers and such. cases where you can do 99% of the looting as you kill, even in a slow ship, doesn't count.
2) pushing too hard. take your time, enjoy yourself, on most level 4 missions with more than 10 targets, (most) I find at least one or two things that made it worthwhile,
then again, maybe I'm just easy to please. if I find a few named launchers or guns or whatever, I deem it worthwhile. to sell? nah, but it all goes into my little packrat hoard. as a result, I can fit practically any ship I can fly, and some I can't, with at least SLIGHTLY better than standard modules, almost all around(still get very few BS-size weapons), without even thinking about it.
I still wish there was more BS-scale hardware dropped... but I find it greatly amusing when people say its not worthwhile to loot.
it really does add up.
oh, most memorable loots...
+5% mining yeild implant handful of named expanders, some of which being local hull's. buckets of second-place named, and top named(non-officer/faction) modules of all sorts, including webbers, a painter, guns, afterburners/mwd's, ECM, loads of sensor boosters, nos, neuts, ect....
personally I see value in being able to fit any ship I want, with at worst, standard type equipment, of nearly any variety I wish, without spending any money, or minerals, or anything, just a few minutes looting...

Edited by: KA StarLifter on 29/06/2006 15:46:50 The whole title, and focus, of this thread needs to be narrowed down - pick a level to ask about.
It seems like some are finding some lvl 2 missions that are really worth it. Some lvl 3's may be, as well as some lvl 4's. How does this really help anyone? It doesn't. We need to categorize the missions that are worth it by level.
Speaking as a lvl 4, Q 20 mission runner, 'Serpentis Extravaganzas' have absolutely sucked in as far as loot. Up until yesterday I've been looting all the cans on the mission, even from structures, but I've decided it isn't even worth the time to loot the cans on this one.

I have gotten some good loot from tech secrets lvl 3 part 1. yesterday I got a +3 Implant (memory I think) and the previous time I did that mission I got a medium projectile BPO (not that valuable but was a bit unusual, never heard of BPOs dropping as loot - only BPC).
Also got an implant worth 40 mill (don't remember which maybe that which give +3% damage to all turrets) but don't remember which mission. Think it is that mission where you always(?) get an implant from a structure.

In the past year or so I've gotten a +3 implant, all sorts of great named guns & launchers, a few local hull expanders. I also got a +4 implant (charisma) from the L3 Angel Strike storyline. My first ever L4, I was looting AE4 for someone else and looted a 1400mm Prototype (worth 30m+ at the time). Too bad I got aggro and my cruiser was no match - the 1400 popped.
Recently, but I think prior to patch, I got a 8m SS bs on an L4 Gone Berserk that dropped ammo, tag, SS 100mn ab and SS EM Hardener.

An idea for all of you who say its not worth your time to loot because you make more doing the next L4 mission. (and ive been there myself on some long L4s where I just wanna complete mission and go to bed..) Ask if any of the new or newer members of your corp want to play loot monkey. Have them warp to you at end of mission or toss them a BM of the can location after you finish mission. Sure to your average L4 running pilot a couple mil at most on an average loot pick up may not mean much compared to value of LP..but to newer corp mates who may just be running L2s or such...its more than worth their time to collect the stuff..either to use..sell or refine.
Ive done this for several corp mates and they have always appreciated it. And when I was new..ive collected cans from some of the older L4 runners.
Just an idea out there...to newer characters...'worth the time' takes a whole new meaning.

Running lvl 3s in my Vexor, you'd think CCP would let me have better loot for doing missions in a less-than-suitable ship. But alas, most of the loot I have retrieved have been reprocessing-fodder.
Oddly however, I found 3 Hardwiring implants in one can from a mission. Ten minutes later, I got the same mission from another mission, and voila, from the same can drop (off of a collidable structure), I found another Hardwiring implant! Odd, but that was about as exciting as it got. The rest have been something like 50000 civilian shield boosters and 600000 cargo scanners ):

It's all what the individual considers 'good' loot too. If you're only shooting for that 100M isk mod, then good luck. Rariety is part of that high price.
Level 2 missions have been kind to me. From Illegal Activies I've gotten 2 Beta Cargo, 1 Local Cargo and a Mark 1 Modified SS Cargo. Also the top named roid scanner, which isn't worth much but I'll use it myself.
The "insert pirate faction" Spies always gives some cap/cpu mods from the small structure at the warp in point. I've gotten the top named CPU enhancer and a Local cap mod from that, plus other named cap mods.
Getting crap loot doesn't bother me, it's when I get no loot that gets my goat. I've done missions where you have to pop about 20 ships, and got literally 2 cans, a civy shield and another piece of junk. That new mission with the personnel transport where you have to bring back five militants, that's the worst waste of time. You only get 10 marines from that mission, and that's usually it. It's also the only time I get major lag, cause some jagoff thought it would be a bright idea to put 1000 wall pieces and other structures in that mission, yet not once has there been a can from it, I popped them all about 5 times with nothing for it, now I don't bother.

I don't disagree that actually tracking the isk/hour (the only thing that truly matters in this question) will yield the correct answer.
HOWEVER - I submit that your sample size (one month of missions) may not be large enough. There are enough missions, and enough variability amongst the loot drops, that just a few really significant drops might skew looting ahead of maxxing bounties/reward/bonus: drops that you just may not have gotten, and someone else might.
You also didn't specify what missions you were doing - I'm guessing lvl4, which imho probably skews your results in the direction of not looting for those running lower levels.
Only with the loot tables in hand could we know absolutely for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if it takes more than a month of sample to converge on the true correct conclusion.

I sporadically run level 3 kill missions in high sec space. The best loot I've ever gotten was a Domi warp disruptor (the 30km one), but that was pre-patch. I haven't gotten anything really worthwhile post-patch, though I still loot the cans with a tractor beam.

i would agree it takes more than a month to find out if looting is worth it i had in 1-2 weeks 2 140ish mill isk implant drops and 1 30ish mill isk implant drop and since then have gone more than a month with no worthwhile drops so honestly to gauge if its worth it u would need a months info from a crapload of people OR several years worth of missions for one person

one thing i would really like to know is if anyone has gotten the rare commander spawns since the patch? im a bit worried that maybe all theese new missions was a step in removing that chance? and honestly the chance even though its very slight means alot to my enjoyment of running missions

Save yourself the hassle, unless you enjoy looting just skip it and do another mission instead. Time is better spent that way.
I actually track the numbers, I don't just "feel" one way or the other is better. Track it yourself and I imagine you will agree with me.
I don't disagree that actually tracking the isk/hour (the only thing that truly matters in this question) will yield the correct answer.

He also doesn't mention his looting "technique", cargo cap of the ship he's in, speed of the ship, and whether or not he's got loot cans strung out all over deadspace.
I run 80% of my L3's in a Domi, the other 20% in an Enyo or Ishkur. In the Domi, I generally sit at one spot and let the rats come to me, so all the cans are within 20k, and only take about 5 minutes tops to collect once a room is clear, and that's without using a tractor. I'll net about 400k in junk reprocess loot, average another 400-500k in sellable loot (Compressed coils, arbalests, etc) and occasionally will get something sweet, like the Shadow Serpentis Explosive Hardener I got a couple days ago.
900k isn't a bad haul for an extra 5-10 minutes per mission, considering the bigger mission rewards for my usual agent (35 effective Quality) averages about 800k + LP, and bounties average about 1m.
In the AF's, yep, stuff is strung out all over by the end of the mission, so I just BM and come back later in a fast Catalyst, unless the mission was several jumps from my base, in which case I'll just try to grab as much stuff as my AF's little cargo bay can hold.
But the long and short of it is that I'm not overly worried about maximizing ISK per hour, half the fun of doing missions for me is opening the cans to see what Santa brought. Mostly, it's lumps of coal, but occassionally I'll get a Turbo Man.

I am just about to finish angel strike the 10 part level 3 storyline missions and have already made over 250 mil in implants alone. I snagged 2 +4's (sadly, one was charisma) and a missile implant worth 140mil, all the implants dropped from the komni ships. I also regularly get proto rails of all sizes, various cargo expanders once in a while and other reasonable assorted loot, although I have yet to get any faction gear drop. This is all post patch. Some days seem better than others, I tend to get less decent loot during the weekends, perhaps they are using tables to limit the amount of higher value loot dropping on any given day?

Without a doubt - lvl 4 WC is the way to go for faction loot.
You can also score faction or decent named loot from Guristas Extravaganza bonus lvl.

It seems very odd to me that people say all they get is "reprocess" loot. I get a lot of that... but I get about 10-100x more value from the non reprocess loot that I get in missions. If I don't get a 300k+ item in a mission it was a crappy mission. I run level 3's, fyi.
There are definately some missions that yield better loot. As someone who has made multiple billions off level 3 missions I can easily list off some missions that yield decent loot.
Illegal Activity 1+3 (and sometimes 2). Tons of Cargo Expander's, local hull/beta/alpha/etc.
Tech Secrets 1+3. All sorts of valuable stuff, including cargo expanders/nanofibers.
All the non-deadspace missions where multiple waves warp in on you, one after the other, with 100% can drop rate. This includes The Blockade/Mordus Headhunters/and 1-2 others. These drop tons of 100k-1 mil items, generally guns/launchers/etc.
Stage 5+6 of AE/GE - Stage 5 in each has a structure which always drops a hardwiring, sometimes worth 20k sometimes 1-2 mil or more. Otherwise all loot in AE/GE stage 1-5 generally sucks. Stage 6 can yield faction loot from the cache/special structure (not the war installation), yes on the level 3 version. Stage 6 loot from the BS's can also be very good (such as named siege/cruise launchers).
Black Market Hub - Named launchers drop from the Caracal npc's quite a bit.
There is one other mission I can't recall the name of that has faction spawns about 1 in 10 times or so... which often drop crap but can drop faction mods as well which are of course worth tons.

Loot tends to suck these days in missions, but every now and then there is something that pops up worth having. I took taisu magdesh tag and a proto 425mm from a storyline the other day for example. Used to be a broken lvl 2 missions which spawned a faction frig every time, then every other time it seemed to be a faction implant. _______

I was runing 'Angel Strike' with a friend the other night and got an implant from a lone BS on one of the stages that sold for 60mil. I am note sure which stage but there was one BS and a message that said something like 'you can go through the gate without killing me'. I wasnt going to pass up the bounty and when I tractored his can there was an implant (+4 Int i think) and I didnt have the cybernetics to use it so I put it up for 60mil.
That is the best drop I have had by far since starting this game in June.

Its not terribley valuable nor common but its enough to keep me picking up cans.

the pallu(somethign) ballistic control unit for missiles,, 6mounths ago, loot last couple of mounths have been close to just stuff for refine hehe. guees all the pirates whining about mission loot/rewards have been taken seriously by ccp, which I see as lame absurd at best.
will start playing counterstrike soon, thats kind of game ccp appears to aim for anyway hehehe |

Good point, it speeds up the time until your next storyline which will provide more reward than your last 16 mission - IMHO (Just finished a storyline that netted a Domination Stasis Web.) |

I think it depends how you play, if you've got yourself a nice alt manufacter that has a ok stock of BPO's that need filling then picking up all the loot and processing everything thats not markatble is a good idea, even if its only to produce basic T1 items and sell them on the market u can easly make alot of isk, if your more combat orientated or dont have the manufacting factilities i'd say loot the BS and fraction spawns then go do another mission and stock up more bountys.

Starting to loot level 3s with a fast loot ship apart from that I don't bother to collect much unless I happen to fly near a can.
That said I have a had a few nice finds - best recently was in alevel 3 storyline, Dark Blood Energised Adaptive Nano. In regular lvl 2 and 3s I ahve picked up fleeting webbers and anmed launchers. Nothing great tho.
