I have been a member of many corporations but recently Ive gone solo...and well many times its boring. It has its advantages such as: -your not somebody's B****. No one can tell you what you should do. -You get to work toward your goals, not someone else's. -along the same lines as above, you enrich yourself instead of some tyrant CEO -You get to live in the System you like instead of where the corp is
Of course one of the major drawbacks is that no one will help you. If you get ganked, then you get ganked. No one has your back. But of course Ive been in corps that were the same way. "Oh, you lost your Raven...thats too bad"
If your Solo and you like it clap your hands... then tell us why. What kind of things do you do? Do you mine in Low sec? If so how? Two accounts?
If your solo Id like to hear your story.
And yes, this is an alt. I lost an expensive ship tonight and im considering joining a corp once again. But I have had horrible experience with corps....starting with my first one, NovaTech.

I usually solo if no corp mates of mine are on, I'm a pvper so I have found several enticing targets that way, but it also lead to the untimely death of my pimp-mobile.
The only time I say I prefer to solo is ratting, since it's more lucrative.

Going solo gets pretty boring. It wasn't until I invited some friends into Eve that I felt much need to log into my character for something to do other than to change a skill.
To be honest, if the CEO is making silly demands of you then you should either talk to the CEO about it or leave and find greener pastures, like a corp that fits your goals for your character. Don't know why people force themselves to not have fun in Eve-Online like this. ___________________

I played solo for my first 10 months of Eve and enjoyed it. I recently joined a corp...not because I felt I had to, but because I finally found players I wanted to hang out with...the best reason for joining a corp IMHO.
Playing solo in 0.0 was a decent challenge. I hunted NPCs and evaded and occasionally tangled with pirates. I enjoyed setting my own agenda. I'm easily amused...training up skills and learning to fly new ships is fun, as is earning the isk to buy them.
Flying into deadly areas of space to explore with no one to back you up can be rather thrilling and, in my case, only occasionally expensive. ____________________________________________________________________

I've played solo my entire EVE career. I like being free to do whatever I want.
Occaisonally I do wish I had some friends to go with me into some of the more dangerous systems. Perhaps go on a pirate hunt in Parts. Well, I used to like do a few missions with people in my corp. However, since the bounty got reduced, I started to do them alone to keep profit up. Aside from pvp, going solo is always more profit. I do chat with people though. That is more than enough fun for me. After dealing with people all day in real life, some quiet time alone is very relaxing.

I used to solo PVP a lot back in the day.
I actualyl loved it. Rather then take a break from the game, I would from time to time, just ignore corp chat and do my own thing. My seem like I was ignoring the team, and TBH I was during slow times, but had I not done that, I would have not logged in.
Solo PVP is great. Especially if you do it in a BS. There's that element of risk there, that you don't get when your in a group. No scouts, no idea if the next gate is camped. Sure you could not jump in, or scout it in a pod, but its about 10X more fun to jump in a BS and see what happens.
And its relient on your own skill, and your own instincs. Hard to describe, but if you'v done it for a while, you begin to have a feel for whats going to happen next. A gut feelig that tells you if that BS sitting on a gate is waiting for a fight, or if there's 5 people on the other side waiting to jump in. Solo enough, and you'll surprise your self with how often your right.
Sure a good day might be 3 BS kills, maybe more, maybe less depending on where you are. And yes, you lose a lot, at least half of your targets due to stabs. But at the end of the day, your own success depends on you, and only your own skill. Not someone who's good with the scanner, your buddy in a scorp, anouther spare tackler, and you in a damage dealer. Just you.
But, I havn't solo'd in a while. Stabs mostly. After RMR, you find more and more stabs, and I still have the same number of mid slots. Its dissapointing when you 'lose' more then half your targets. People tell me to adapt, so I put 4 20km scramblers on an ishtar, and almost lost it to a maller, but I could catch mining apocs, and somtimes win... So I adapted again. Groups of at least 4, with no less then 15 points of scrambling between us. The solo pilot it dead, long live the gank.

My name is Brutor Shaun, and I like doing it on my own!
Mainly, I solo for the reasons given in the OP. I like to do what I want, when I want. Mostly lvl 3 and 4 mission running, with the occasional trip to 0.0 for a bit of ratting.

I PvP solo exclusively. I'm a corp war deccer / extortionist and hunt only in Empire. My aim is to see how many people I can kill before they catch me or before they decide to pay (which they never do).
My best war was with 3rd Eye Tong where I killed 44 ships without loss and my worst was losing my Megathron before I killed anyone at all the next war I had.
Why I do it is simply because I don't need to rely on anyone at all to play EVE, its so difficult a challenge that you can spend an entire day or two tracking down a target that knows your after them and then lose the whole day if you make a single mistake but if you get them it gives you a feeling of accomplishment you wouldn't get had you killed 20 x 'Random Ship #xxx'.

I only really solo missions, but even then I have friends doing missions close by and sometimes wizz out to help them in an AF or something fun :D
Dont really do much solo with regards to anything else, but I dont get the tyrant CEO thing (being CEO myself) if you're looking for a corp with a little freedom you should consider the ninth column, we're not together as a corp for the isk, but mainly for the friendly banter and teamwork. But this isnt the recruitment channel...

I solo because I don't need to work toward anything much and I'm old enough to take care of myself. I wouldn't object to being in a corp and helping out occasionally or taking part in events but real life stuff means I often just don't feel like it and I don't want to let people down. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I prefer to solo for same reasons you mentioned: Quote: -your not somebody's B****. The only reason I see to be part of a team is to fly in pvp gangs. Everything other than pvp can be done solo just fine. The biggest disadvantage of being solo - no gang. However, most corps and alliances seem to have different understanding of what team work is about, so it usually doesn't work out between me and them.

My corp is one with virtually no strings attached. We mostly do missions, I trade a lot, the occasional mining. Most of the time we do it solo, once in a while we get together or help eachother out. It's great, it doesn't make the game feel like an obligation.

Solo 4tw........theres not really a lot of us left tbh.
As me old mucker lorth said the game has developed into very much relying on not being solo to accomplish kills in game now.

My CEO is not a tyrant. Big corp ops aren't on 23/7, plenty of time for solo and personal goals. System where the corp is is far better than the system I came from
I think you need to find a better corp.
I solo to manufacture ammo for myself, and sell surplus at a decent profit on player-driven market. The novelty of the player-driven market has yet to wear off . Also, I solo because coming in after a busy day at work, heading out to a quiet system in eve, and listening to the hum of the mining lasers and the background music is nice and relaxing. ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin

Soz m8 but if the guys using more than 2 stabs i cant see him being much harm to anyone unless their caldari or flying a vagabond or the guy is relying on one multijammer to prevent you from shootin at him in the first place.
Cant wait til ecm's get nerfed .
If the op is talking about solo as in not working toward corp goals then yeah i play solo but when it comes to missions, pvp or exploring il usually ask if anyone wants to join in.

I agree with you. I like to be totaly free. To decide on which system i want to live. I dont want to be forced by anyone to do things that are bored to me. When i making some money are for my self and not for any corp. And in other words im free to do what ever i like to do. But in the times of need i want my friends to help me as i help them when they need me. For the above reasons i made a corp. In our corp we dont have all those crapy things that you said. We all live in different systems. We never tell or even worst force someone to do something. We have our own wallets. Corps wallet are based in donations. We have a corp hangar which is accessible by any member (including the bpo division). We put the useless items to us in the proper division and anyone can get and use theese items from that division. The title of CEO for us is just 3 letters . Every decision are taken only by members. Permanent members have fully access to corps wallet. And finaly when our members lost any ship(s) we all going to headquarters and help the member(s) to get the ore to build the ship(s). As you can see we all do things because nobody force us to do. And that for us is the way to enjoy EVE.

I've tried both ways, and was rather comfortable with them.
IMHO biggest disadvantage in soloing is the social aspect; missing the group to operate/interact with. Missing the 'I am part of us' feeling.
Soloing is not same as being totally alone; I always used to hang and chat in various chat channels (friends/ex-corps based ones).
Soloing has it advantages; you're not responsible for others, you're free to roam as you will, according your own schedule.
But in the end, I seem to prefer belonging to a corp. Burden from a good corp is small compared to benefits.

I'm in a rather inactive corp at the moment so I get to solo pretty hardcore. When they are on they are all huddled around in Caldari space, meanwhile im solo'ing level 2 and 3 amarr navy missions. I eventually plan to join a larger, more active, corp or possibly start my own.
I refuse to be a good little worker bee, mining lasers will never touch my highslots... so i'm waiting until I have the SP to be an effective combat pilot...

Agree with the OPs reasons for soloing. Have to deal with people enough in rl, in game it's nice to have the freedom to just go do my thing, and not say a word if that's how the days been.
Overall biggest reason is it's hard to find serious people to work missions and things with. Too much epeen and squabbling over spoils, when solo can just get the job done and fly back for a beer at the station.

I pretty much always PVP solo... why? More skill, more tatics...
Blob warfare sucks IMO. Boring as hell.
When you solo you have to be percise. You have to be 1 step ahead. I love it and I wish CCP would expand on the solo role. I love interacting with other people but I hate blob warfare. Small groups are nice, anything more than 8+ and it starts to get boring. -=====-

There's very little that can't be done solo vs group play - and for those things that do require more people in 99.9% of the cases you got friends somewhere to aid you (or alts).
And for me playing solo = do what I want, when I want, how I want.

I solo.
First corp I was in (the one that got me in the game) disbanded and the members joined goonfleet. 2nd try at a corp was a 0.0 corp and I'm not ready for the change in game play that brings. 3rd corp I looked at had an empty recruiting channel.
/shrug
Still doing lvl 1 missions (boring as hell) so something will come up eventually, I guess. If not, I doubt my time in Eve will last very long.

Hello, solo man myself. I love it, i can as i please, only problem is like someone else said you can fight ok 1v1, 1v2 , but its when you get 20 plus on your tail it gets intresting :) I do this because i enjoy the freedom to do as i please. If i need some isk then i do a few days on level 4 missions. I hunt pirates, do some 0 space , use jump clones is good. I have only 1 account, and that i pay for via etc for isk, so Eve costs me nothing :) It makes life more enjoyable being solo, like that other chappy said, if you have a War against a bigger corp its fun.Can use your location agents and pick people off ,but be carefull there is always that 20 man blob waiting for you in the next system
