Great another new low for eve as if the scamming in local or escrow wasnt enough. Is this legal ? Anyways, do I complain to someone or just delete them ?

You should be able to take screenshots of the mail and post them here and hopfully that would be proof of wrong doing.

Yep i got one too... this is a growing issue in all MMO's... I still play EQ2 with my wife and i get many private messages a week now regarding world currency for game money. Sometimes multiple times a day. and my mail box is loaded with them. ========================= Why use a forum to auction when you can sell it on Eve-Bay!

The reason you have to post them here or anywhere for that matter is that any accusation has to be backed up by PROOF, the devs won't belive you if you don't have factual proof. I don't think they are going to ban people just on your word alone. If that were the case I could get everyone in the game banned for no reason at all.

Regarding the "proof" thing, just don't delete the mail - if the GMs can see it in your inbox, that's proof enough as AFAIK it's not possible to spoof an evemail sender.

Is there anyway a thread can be created where new posts appear at the top. We can post links to screenshots of ISK selling mails from ISK farmers in there with the message and character names clear. Any posts in the thread that are not ISK selling screens are deleted. All characters with their names shown clearly beside these mails have their accounts deleted. All files must be in .png format so that tampering can't be blamed on JPEG compression distortion?
This a plausible idea?
I also think that if they have time someone in CCP should post here with a quick comment on what is being done, because frankly I don't think anything is being done about it. There are hundreds of blatent acts of ISK macroing all around the major empire systems, and petitions about these ISK selling evemails do not lead to any result. I wouldn't be supprised if those that handled petitions were told to ignore those about ISK sellers to be honest.
My two pence.

No, selling ISK for real-life cash is against the EULA and will get you perma-banned. Keep the mail in your inbox, then file a harassment petition stating what happened. The mail in your inbox should be proof enough (since you cant fake data on CCP servers), while a screenshot posted on the forums could be faked (which is why most MMO publishers dont accept screenshots as proof).

Just hit f12, and file a petition for it. The account will get banned almost immediately. The accounts that are used for announcing are very rarely used for the macroing itself, so CCP can ban em right away.

I also recieved one of these messages.
I pettioned it as expected and im sure the gm are doing the utmost to stop these people.
Best way of stopping it is to hbuild a personal ingame channel and set all to auto refuse. write in your bio that if people want to contact you via eve mail or convo to drop into your channel and ask for permission to go onto your allowed lists.
A long winded way of doing it but it works.

ATTENTION CCP:
Stop the Isk Selling Mail Spam.
I do not care how you do it. Just do it.
FIND A WAY.
Change the entire game mail system. Rewrite code. Do MAJOR code rewrites. If you don't have a way to do it, then MAKE ONE.
If the method CREATED permanently destroys all Isk selling, that is nice. Just make sure I never see advertisement Spam from strangers in my in-box ever again (Sales Spam from the main accounts of Merchants I deal with is cool, Sales Spam from alts is not acceptable. End it.)

Better idea: Put in the EULA that if they violate Isk selling rules, even on a trial account, that CCP is authorized to charge a full account fee, AND ban the account.

Nothing against China, but 99% of the sellers/farmers come from there.
When Serenity is up, just don't allow China to log onto TQ.
If they have thier own cluster, there's no reason for them to need to be on TQ. -

Have you ever talked to ISK farmers? I talk to them on a daily basis (they've literally taken over my corp's home system)
Last night, out of 25 people in local, 4 of us were players. The rest were CONFIRMED farmers.
how are they confirmed? Hell, I convo them all the time. They are all from China. They openly admit to ISK farming The evemail spam I get has domain names from China.
have they been petitioned? yup.
I'm not saying it'll completely erase ISK selling. And once again, I'm not blaming China on a whole - there are probably many there that do not sell ISK and play the game for what it is.
However, Serenity is a China-only server that the rest of the world can't access. It's not like they're missing out on the game.

I've updated the post. I'm not saying that there aren't Chinese farmers involved: there most definitely are a lot of them, but banning them will not fix the problem, it will just **** over real chinese players (and there are quite a lot of those), those running the selling operations (mostly western. They might not being sitting there mining, but the money is going to them in the end) will get off happily, and set up sweatshops elsewhere they can get the labour (Balkan states?)

I dont see how it'd upset Chinese players, so what I understand (and it's not much, admittedly) China is very restricted on who can go online and where..
but they have thier own cluster now. A cluster we can't use....it's petty, but they can access both and we only have access to the spammed one?
It's either that, or make it so it's easier for us to clear out infested systems.
honestly, why should legit player corps be forced to move because people violating the EULA are allowed to mine there with no reporcussions?
soon we'll have can spamming for ISK, then we'll have spamming in local (oh wait, that already happens)
something needs to be done, because it's getting way out of hand.
If not banning the china server, a revamp of th eNPC corp system is needed.

Got one too. I didn't see an obvious petition category. Do people use harrassment?
Here are some possible "fixes": 1) Let us set a cost threshold for strangers sending evemail. But make it a deposit that we can either let concord keep or give back to the sender if the mail isnt spam. Maybe just apply this to trial accounts. If they have to risk 100k per message they won't be able to afford to do much spamming. 2) Limit the number of evemails a trial account can send. Or limit the number of unread evemails. Spamming isnt very efficient if you have to creat a new account for every few people you spam. (Assuming trials can't be automagically established). 3) Allow people to optionally supply a credit card during trial. If they do, some or all restrictions are lifted. Perhpas charge them if they break the EULA.

I agree.. trial members are not paying for the game, plain and simple.
and I highly doubt someone will base thier decision on whether or not to play eve based on if they can send evemail or not. -

Most IP adresses of gamers are probably dynamic (= whenever you connect to your provider, you get a new IP from his IP range(s)). If you block a person, he just reconnects to his provider to get a new IP. Another player with that provider might have bad luck later, because he gets a blocked IP and wonders, why he can't connect to the game.

WHOIS, while indeed a handy tool, is quite ineffective at locating who actually holds the domain. As I never put any sort of accurate iRL contact info other than a freemail account when I register a domain I could be from down the street or Austrailia.

Having just subscribed to Eve today after playing the trial, I think the trial works as intended. Its intended to attract an audience, and have them stay.
Not all new people are farmers. When people post they aren't happy with older players who grief newer ones, many people posted to "live with it". This is true, and so is living with farmers.
I don't care much for either the farmers nor the griefers, but I think its rude to blame all new people for all issues. Don't like griefing? Suck it up. Don't like farmers? Must be the new people.
Oh yeah, plus it doesn't make any sense at all. I mean, how many farmers can make a living on newbie accounts? All they use them for is the email harassement and not the actual farming. Even with no trial accounts, you would still have your 25 high end farmers. All they lose is the ability to promote via email.
In my very recent experience, all I can say is that if you charge a significant amount per email sent, only the true new players would be hurt since anyone selling you 10million ISK would find the email cost trivial.
On the other hand, if I was only to receive email during the trial and not send it, that would have been fine. I could still use chat channels to talk to friends, the email would still work to get notices from agents.
The current trial system seems to be attracting people who end up playing, and frankly I wouldn't have tried Eve without it. Unless Eve is "full", its probably still one of the more powerful ways to promote the product. Tamper with that, and the farmers truly win.

We do NOT need to drastically nerf trials or remove them entirely. That would just hurt the game.
My solution to this is to limit trial accounts to 2evemails/hour. No real trial players are going to hit this limit, and if they do, its only an inconvience. On the other hand, it screws spammers over completely.

I am confused though. This is a PvP game, is it not?
In EQ the farmers were all over the place, and a menace to players because they were very agressive about getting every spawn. One of the common responses was "Ooooo if we could only be PvP for a few minutes ...".
So, why don't people get together in Eve and beat the stuffing out of the farmers? Surely a continuous stream of losses would make farming unprofitable in this game?
I always assumed it farming would be much less of an issue here than on a game like EQ, where you can't attack a farmer.
Instead of banning the accounts, maybe they should just be flagged as "farmers" (instead of Pirates), and let PvP take its path.

Sorted.
Better idea: Put in the EULA that if they violate Isk selling rules, even on a trial account, that CCP is authorized to charge a full account fee, AND ban the account.
Now that would be a kick to the nuts for isk sellers. Very good idea, hurt their wallets.

Just think, if CCP was run by 50s Casino owners, they'd send peopele out with hammer to break the hands of macroers.
Limit tiral account emails, only maybe 2-3 a day tops. A trial i account is t try eve out and decide to play or not. If your decision is a make-or-break due to not being able to send unlimited mails via a trial account, then don't play EVE. I think I sent maybe 2-3 EVE mails during my trial.

Edited by: sinderela on 10/06/2006 08:16:10 Then stop buying isk and giving these guys your name?
edit: use time cards, you dont get banned and the only evemails you get is to make more isk.

Hate to say it but is it time to stop the trial accounts?
If you limit the type of training you can do on a trial account and what ships you can fly the next step is to stop trial accounts all together.
I have petioned 3 spamers so far this week. And if it is a normal account just useing a alt, ban the IP!

Gotta admit, I've just been very impressed with GM response time. Petitioned an Isk sale and got a response in less than 5 mins.
Perhaps they've got a petitions bot??

From a GM:
Quote: We are always trying to catch macro users in the game and we ban quite a few every day.
Its not hopeless so keep petitioning and be patient.
