With the co-operation of EVE Radio, CCP wants to take the Alliance Championships to the next level, streaming the fights, interviews, news and information straight to your desktop. That's right, we want to be able to televise the Championships live and in real-time to you.
The question we have for the community is this, would you rather pay for a high quality stream of EveTV, or would you rather have a free, low-quality stream of the sights and sounds of the Championships?
You can read more about EveTV in LeMonde's Alliance Tournaments and EveTV blog.

Yeh, I agree on free streaming....but tbh, i'd be happy with any tyupe of stream, I remeber what it was like with only the commentary - I don't think even the comnnentators knew what was going on.

Free needs to be available tbh. I for one won't pay.
Chribba might be interested in the video thing, he did the eve-live system a while back. Obviously I can't speak for him though

Edited by: Jaruk Talis on 15/06/2006 21:49:07 Free stream please! I can't pay for it and I would like to see it as well.
Maybe you can include an option to pay for a high-quality stream? But still offer the low quality please! Or in other words, both, but if you can't do both, go for the free stream!
Ok, I'm rambling on now, "Do you like boobies?" Hahahahaha...

I had a great time listening to the Eve-Radio guys last time, and really wish I had planned to record the fights I was involved in to hear what they had to say about our fights
I would probably pony up the cash for a good stream.

i think the question is would that fee include the price of archiving each fight in high qualitiy so any 1 who has paid to watch it can DL it again when ever they want.
if so i would consider it but would really be a at the day type spare ash thing.

I love Boobies..... Hurrah for boobies
/emote hands over wallet.
I have no problems in paying for a high quality stream. $8-12 is nothing when you think about it.

I for one would pay for high quality streaming if the content worth it. But i guess a free "low quality" streaming would be nice aswell, for the people that cant/dont want to pay.

Do both, and if I'm in a position too actually watch atleast a couple of hours, I'd go for the payed high quality stream.

I'd probably go with the low quality stream or just audio. I can't really justify paying $10 to watch this just for one week. Maybe if there were other perks for laying down that much money I might pay, like, say, a raffle or whatnot. ___________________

Why not have a high quality video avaliable for download and leave the stream to be low quality. I would rather download and watch some high quality stuff at a later date.
And it depends on how crappy your talking about. There is crappy CNN Pipeline video, then there is crappy cellphone video, then there is crappy frame by frame video. I could live with the first two.

I assume that high quality means practically being able to read the damage information text and low quality being able to see what action is going on and no more. I am all for openness. I would watch a free stream and I think it is good for the 'immersement factor' that it will be free, so people who normally wouldn't watch will.

Edited by: Word Wench on 15/06/2006 22:05:48 How about options like this:
1. Free audio stream 2. Low-quality video at a small charge (as even low quality vid takes bandwidth which costs money) for say $5 for the entire tournament 3. High-quality video at $25 for the entire tournament
Stream it all into a plug-in built into the browser with a live chat session for those watching/listening.
Just my 2 cents :)
Oh, and GREAT IDEA - I can hardly wait

Quote: Would you mind paying a price of around $8-12 to view a high-quality stream for the entire duration of the tournament?
Only if there is an ISK payment option too,
cut it down to $5 or 50m ISK.

Yes
Quote:
Both?
Yes
Quote: Do you like boobies?
Yes do we get to see them on tv also?
The thing is, whatever happens, hours after we will be able to see a FRAPS of the event, so making us pay for stuff wont always work

both - some people wouldn't mind paying the extra for the good stream, while the people with no money or no access to a CC could watch the poor quality one for free.

Edited by: Nee''kita Frist on 15/06/2006 22:16:32 I would say I will pay but I will pay 35 euros tops for any streaming software but that 35 euro tag MUST include ALL fights for viewing, commentary, background, ship details and streaming stats of damage etc etc. (obivously we should not know the loadout until the fight begins)
If it becomes PPV (pay per view) then I will only pay 2-3 euros per match and will need to know who is fighting who etc.
If there is an ISK option I would suggest people who can afford to can buy codes to sell on the forums in exchange for ISK and that should/would be the only option for that.
Free option - should be pretty much a must lets not be dividing the community please at least let them see the fights or maybe with Chibba's permission high quality recordings on Eve files.

You do realise that the streamining computer will probaly be top of the range then will send it to a server which will then compress and send the stream out via some really crazy streaming method that I no idea would be named.
its not like its gonna be stream from Tranquility direct. --------------

Would it be possible to get a sponsor for the high res version so that the price could be lowered?
Google video ads in between the battles?

That is actually a pretty good idea.
It would only work if the people can use the codes to pay to view the event. Otherwise CCP isnt making any money from it, its just taking ISK out of the game. And that wont pay the bandwidth bills.

That was pretty much the point..
"People who can afford to."
To buy the codes and then sell them on the forums for ISK... You know how GTCs work right now? Just a one of "ticket" so to speak for the event.
edit: I would like to also see Wrangler or someone do a live striptease as a "warmup" for the event itself. Prehaps one member of the dev team for every fight then we can vote on the best stripper. --------------

Nah, players with money would buy extra codes and sell them on the forums for ISK. CCP still gets its money, just like with game time codes today. ___________________

Originally by: HippoKing Free needs to be available tbh. I for one won't pay.
Chribba might be interested in the video thing, he did the eve-live system a while back. Obviously I can't speak for him though
I am interested, but have stepped down as a backup alternative to EveTV if they can't pull it off.
And tbh this idea of paying came as a suprise for me and I'm not that happy about it, I don't like it and I am pretty confident that it could be pulled off with high-quality for free using sponsored links if that is the problem.
So, if I have to chose one option I'm afraid it would be the low-quality for free since the idea of paying to view it doesn't really get me hooked.
And finally - "We could bring you a crappy low-quality stream, which would deliver bad picture/sound quality" - imo I think we managed to push out pretty good streams when experimenting with EVE-Live that didn't require 1MiB/s+ streams, but without a doubt the EveTV guys know what they are doing.
Would it be against the EULA if I paid for a high-quality stream which I then re-broadcast for free via my network?
