I think many of you forgot what it used to be like on your first day....tbqfh i felt EXACTLY the same as sinkfist on my first day or two, i had previously played freelancer and wasnt to fond of the click and move flying.
Combat seemed stupid and i really wasnt having much fun, still i stuck it out, started on some lv1 kill missions. Basically the longer i played the more fun i started having.
That first intro into the game isnt very flattering for EVE and its why only the minority stay and find out how fun EVE really is...
All i can say is (if your on a 14 day trial) stick it out till the end and then make your decision, combat gets alot more fun once you get into cruisers+ and take on the harder stuff.

I'll agree with this somewhat, eve is not an FPS. It does not reward people that are inherently better at common games. Is it meant to be an FPS and reward people in this way? No.
I was an avid battlefield 2 player before Eve and have excelled in all FPS games due to my hand eye coordination, sneakiness, and perhaps just natural ability. That is not the case in Eve. I come into eve with a large disadvantage compared to the veterans. But its different, and thats what I like. I like running complexes with my buddies, ratting, the politics, the always changing and somewhat effed up market (especially T2), and the thoughts of the future. When I want to go get some instant gratification I go "BOOM HEADSHOT" some people in BF2, fly my chopper, etc. When I have a few more skills in eve, I might be able to satiate my PvP needs here, but as for now I have battlefield as my 'PvP' outlet.
I have no sig, because I can't compress my picture down that far. It looks like crapola. |

Edited by: Brastagi on 16/06/2006 05:10:36 The OP reminds me of a guy when I was in newbies corp. He was ranting in corp chat how the game sucks and paying the fees is ripped. Of course he got flamed. But after almost two weeks and I was about to join a player corp. I see him lately to be less ranting and start enjoying the game!!
For me the game start to get fun in my first two-three month because I get involved in my first corp war! Pure adrenalin (You lose your ship, YOU REALLY LOSE IT... oh and implants also). Although I do really hope I can use FPS control for my ship for battle.
In case of realistic docking sequence, you ever try to think how that will be possible for a station that has high traffic such as Jita? ---------

To the OP: free-flight ability is in game. Just double click the direction you want your ship to move, and it'll move in that direction. Double click another direction, and it'll turn to move that way. -Wrayeth

I mean come on... autopilot fighting? how *** is that. I have never been so bored in a game...EVER
Dont get me wrong the graphics arent bad but not near as good as it portrays to be.
The Jumpgate transition is stupid, you would think that it would at least line you up properly. Plus haha ...it allows you to fliy right through planets and spacestations.
At least freelancer keeps the physics realistic. And way less texture clipping. You can freeflight whenever you like, especially in a fight. I cant believe how bad this game has dissapointed me.
A word of advice to the creators... Less clipping, realistic dock sequences, freeflight ability, and please please please make it so you can actually fight, because the fighting is weak.
Who are you, and do you play this game?
PS: These whining-posts are so hilarious, thanks m8 I just spread my coffee all over my keyboard. You my friend, simply have no clue.

240 dollars??? I dunno about you, but I pay 133 dollar and I consider that price cheap!! And definitely worth the money!
Besides your post stinks. Too much crap in it. Its like this. If you like it fantastic, play the game! If not, join WoW where you can play with elves and trolls swinging haxmaster +12 lightsabers or whatever.
Lets take point 1. Spaceship navigation. As in real life, you cant steer a spaceship as a car. You have to plot a destination. The speed is simply too high to have free control. Noone in their right mind would take control of a spaceship manually. They would be doomed to death!! Remember, you have to plot cource trugh astrobelt fields, space trash and other stuff. Like other ships etc.
When it comes to warp its also easy. Warp speed opens a passage in the space. It can take you thru items like planets, if it have long enough initiate warping distance. Besides, theres no warping in real life, so we dont really know how it will work. But considering how Warping would suppose to be, the current warping is not impossible.
Actually the only thing I would have liked to see from your post is docking and undocking sequenses. To see your ship take of from the landing pod, and enter space. That would be cool. But then, I would not say the game suck because it lacks this! Specially since its not a neccesary thing, and there are other things i would rather see in this game before that. Like Factional Warfare

Some people like the intense FPS, some the RTS, and some like something in between. Some need action all the time, acting on instinct. Some like a more behind the scenes or thinking role. Some like combat that allows them some time to think more of what they are going to do, like a starship commander. You obviously, like to be the "grunt". So go do that, and have fun. This game doesn't appear to be for you. |

Edited by: duckmonster on 16/06/2006 06:51:25 edit: God damn it, I lost the top of this post :( I'll reconstruct it now!
Imediately your interceptors warps in, and they know what they have to do. Your 3 interceptors immediately "tackle" the battleships. one on each, circling so fast that they cant hit the little interceptors, but unable to warp out due to the warp disruptors and stasis webs.
"WARP IN AT YOUR OPTIMALS" orders the commander.
And in warps your gang of cruisers and battlecruisers. The fleet commander orders "PRIMARY TARGET IS THE SCORPION". Its urgent he dies first, because he can stop the interceptors and free the enemy from their grip. Fifteen grueling seconds later, the scorpion is dead. Alas, one of your cruisers is down. Not a bad trade however. 10mil cruiser for a 70mil scorp with 30mil fittings. "RAVEN 1 IS PRIMARY RAVEN 2 IS SECONDARY". Your ships open fire, taking both ravens out one at a time.
Finally you notice the interceptors have captured the 3 escape pods. "TAKE NO PRISONERS" the commander orders, and 3 enemy pod pilots are sent to an early grave and valhalla.
The end result? You lose 3 cruisers and an interceptor. They lose 3 battleships. When the costs of replacements are compared, a stunning victory.
The whole process from initial contact, to the chase, the hunt, the tense standoff, and the final gory showdown, can take an hour or more. This isnt a quick game, its a slow calculated process leading to a fast and violent outcome.
Its said war is 99% waiting and 1% sheer terror. So it is with eve.
And the battles mean something. That scorpion might be the enemys first, and he's spent 4 months in training for it, and 1 month saving for it. I cant begin to express how insane that first "hairy" battleship engagement really is. I guarantee you'll want a tea and a lie down after it. When you lose it , man does it bite. Consequently, you'll make ever minute in it planned and meticulous.
Seriously , this game wont offer the instant gratification of many, infact even most games, but oh my god, when it heats up the game is wild.
I've been in fleet battles with roughly 200 per side, where the verry existance of your corp is at threat due to a hostile take over attempt. And man, you can almost feel your heart popping out of its socket. When it happens its sheer madness (with a dollop of lag thrown in).
Give this game a real try. It really is space chess, but its not boring once you get into it. But if you just want a quick shoot em up, you can probably pick up counter strike really cheap at a good game shop that stocks old titles.
And hey, if you prefer freelancer, no one here is saying its a bad game. Its just not eve.

Edited by: Kamikazi Atlas on 16/06/2006 07:00:57 Edited by: Kamikazi Atlas on 16/06/2006 07:00:20 You seem to keep comparing Eve to Freelancer a lot, let me continue
Freelancer cost ú30 and had a long drawn out repetitive storyline that lasted all of 20 days, then I got bored
Eve costs ú8 a month and has lasted me over 2 years now. Its very open ended and if you get bored with one thing, go do another thing.
So Eve has cost me ú192 per year, how many single player games would you have bought in that time (please, no warez crap). And also how many people would you meet in 2 years in a single player game. |

Sounds like all MMORPG's to me. You grind, you get something shiny, you show it off, then someone comes along and kills you.
The difference between EVE and the rest is that if someone kills you, you dont get your shiny toy back.....oh, and its a game that discourages time wasting teenagers from playing.

I have to disagree with you saying there is no skill/ability involved in the game. Indeed EVE is not one of those "twitch" games where its the guy who keeps his hands steadiest and clicks fastest. Though imagine there have been times when the one who got F1 in first won . However EVE has alot to do with skill.
For combat - what to fit, when to fight, who to fight etc etc, all of thse are not preprogrammed.
Trading - Sure there are the npc trade routes which can be lucrative and remain, however atleast these are not static, if you overuse it, the price changes, forcing you to move on for a while. Player trading, there is a great deal of skill involved I know people who make billions doing it, but me I just dont have the head for it.
Mining - OK so largely this is monotony, but maybe go try mining in low sec, then you are testing more than your patience.
Industry - Sort of between mining and trading. Choosing what to make and what to sell when and where is important if you want to make the big bucks.
So to conclude, EVE requires you to use your mind, something that is not for everyone. If you don't like that, sorry to see you go. Well mostly, whinning in Forum for entertainment as you put it, does not endear you very much. _______

Instead of flaming, I really would like to see the question answered. what's the point of this thread?? What I tend to do if I don't like a game, is either return it, if ft's cause it's crap, or just stop playing if it just ain't what i was looking for exactly ( I'm weird like that )
What I don't do is go on forums and tell all the other players of that game that it sucks, cause apparently we do like it, or we wouldn't be here. we would quit...

To the OP.
You view of Eve shows that you have completely failed to understand its complexity and it's open ended virtual world concept.
I would recommened WoW which was designed with simpletons in mind.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Failing that, go join Goonswarm. You'll soon start thinking about what your doing after your 38000th visit to the cloning station!

And have you played freelancer?... BY SINKFIST
yes mate i have played freelancer, i used to have my own copy and in all honesty there is no way it can stand up to the sheeer size and depth which eve posesses. my copy of freelancer got sold when i purchased eve as i found it too restrictive compared to eve which lets you go anywhere you want whenever you want. if you prefer freelancer then that is fine, we can not account for taste but please do not come onto the eve forums running the game down. if you dont like it, dont play it. its as simple as that. so please stop youre whining and let the rest of us who have tast enjoy the game for what it truly is ..EPIC !
