But these things are more about personal opinion and taste so I'm curious as to which ship or ships you find to be the best and worst of the bunch in the looks department. Here's my personal choices: The Best: Nemesis Runner-Up: Widow The Worst: Imicus Runner-Up: Nightmare What do you think are the best and worst looking ships?

The other Falcon... you know what I mean ). Can't tell which side is the front once cloaked, not mentionning the awful gradient gold-to-dark that CCP (thank god) dropped right before V3ing the Rhea. As a third position, I'd say tie between golem, imicus, and burst... And all the mordu's ships (sorry!) Logi frigates are not lucky there, but eh its not a fatality! Look at the navitas for instance. Its an old but nice design. Best? Widow. Manticore not far behind. Both ships suceed in a way that they have a design that matches their job. Third place? The Onyx. Or... hmm.. Though choice! I do like the Crow, but I also have a weakness for the Naga <3 Lets call it a tie. Sorry, I'm a Caldari pilot :p Signature Tanking - Best Tanking. Beware the french guy!

And the Imicus is pretty terrible, my very first character in eve went the trading route because I looked at the picture in the market window and went "Oh hell no". Pretty is not a bad word, and the sooner all the ship models can become symmetrical and pretty the better. edit - I still don't get the new Moa love though. Sure, it is indeed quite pretty now that it is symmetrical, but I think the new Condor model blows it out of the water.

And the Rifter-line, particularly with the Jag's paintjob, is one of the designs most successfull at conveying the ships purpose, in my opinion. Worst? As partial as I am to Minmatar ships, I'm going with the Burst. Both the Bantam and the Imicus look like some sort of spaceship, after all.

Not only is it a good redesign, but of all the divergent T2 designs, it stays faithful to its base hull. You can still see a Kestrel somewhere underneath it. Runner-Up: Stratios. This is one fine ship. The only thing that I'm deducting points for is the rotating sensor array and the ubiquitous spotlights that are somehow visible because I guess the vacuum of space has the same atmosphere as a dusty room. Best (Old): Kestrel. Before the addition of visible missile turrets, the Kestrel's hull was the one that most resembled it's function. Each of those fingers in the middle were obviously the launchers. It's asymmetric, but not overwhelmingly so, and the ship's design is solid. Runner-Up: Rifter. It's front-loaded design gives it a powerful look, and it sort of resembles a pod racer, which is fitting for the fastest Empire in New Eden. Worst (New): Crucifier/Sentinel. The old versions were mean looking, like they were going to fly up to you and stab you in the face with an ice pick. The new ones look like the body language for "Meh." Runner-Up: The Scorpion/Widow. That's right, the Widow is one of the worst. Why? Because it was obviously designed as a practical joke. CCP gave the thing claws for crying out loud. Worst (Old): Blackbird/Falcon. What the heck is happening on this hull? It's like someone took a bunch of rectangles and threw them in a blender. Runner-Up: Navitas. There are some ships that are just trying way too hard to be different. Among these, the Navitas is king.

Worst: Imicus Runner up: Revenant Special mention: the Omen falls into "love it" and "hate it" categories depending on the camera angle. God I hate that random side-bit.

Thew more recent redesigns are beautiful and I'm hoping the rupture and caracal end up on the to do list soon. Best: typhoon Worst: omen/caracal/rupture. Have to say I'm not fond of the new sentinel. Its an awesome design, but it seems way to bulky and aggressive for what it is. The sentinel hull is what I want the omen to look like. Mean and armored.

For the really big ships, I'd like to see more variance from "long and thin and implicitly horizontal." If the Erebus could look less like a glassblower's botched attempt at a Brutix, that would be good, too. These things should be totemic. They should literally be battle standards. You also missed a chance to turn the Sansha carrier into a giant spiky sphere. There are also a lot of ships which are mostly ugly because they're badly in need of a refresh and a texture rework, the Atron and Harbinger especially. The CreoDron ships look terrific in gunmetal. I like fins. Jove: Tacky across the board. Mordu's Legion: Cool, but too unadorned. They look like murderous blue pancakes. SoE: Really cool! I'm not a fan of the current color-everything-white fad in scifi these days, but CCP did a great job, esp. with the Battleship. All tech 3 ships in enpire space are ostentatious bling. I can respect a bitter pirate who hunts stray bears for fun, if he does it in a tech 1 ship. Folks who gank empire bears in tech 3 ships have no honour, and bring the game down. The other important context is how ships look in a fleet. A fleet of dramiels is just a swarm of drones, next to a 20 strong battleship fleet with four distinct wings. The Imcus hull is just an outright disgrace. It is the trabant of Eve.

Many ships have hot plasma exhausting onto hull or along the hull, like the proteus. How stupid can that be? Even a kid clearly understands that hot flaming stuff against something solid usually causes burning and melting... apparently the graphic designers haven't clued onto that yet. Another issue missed by designers who don't follow RL space developments, is that heat venting is a big issue inside a sealed vehicles with heat producing weaponry, electronics and especially huge "nuclear-of-some-sort" drives that vent plasma. The ships need huge heat-venting radiators. In this regard, some of the Minmatar ships look the best, are the most realistic with their huge radiatiating fins (Maelstrom, some BCs), and because of those rare sensible Minmatar ship designers, I love flying the Minmatar ships. Yes, I KNOW Eve Online is a space fantasy game where eye-candy rules and imagination runs wild.

Yup, current Dominix do not have the grand appearance of a battleship. Couldn't tell where's the bridge, where's the drones coming from, drone control modules etc. I believe the current art teams that have been doing a great job on the Apocalypse, Moa, Exqueror & Blackbird can definitely do a great job on the Dominix. PS: BTW, I do like the current Blackbird models but can anyone explain what's the reason for the "eye brow" animation during warp?

Thanks for the unlimited queue. EVE is beautiful. I admire most of the ships in game, actually. The reality is that there's relatively few capable of producing a visceral negative reaction. YK

Along with the Tornado, Megathron, Incursus and Nemesis. Worst: Just about everything else. My all time favorites will always be the Apoc, Prophecy, Raven, Scorpion, Rokh and Eidolon.

But already ships of the same faction look alike and it doesn't feel cheap or boring. What seems to be a problem is that the new designs correspond to ships that are similar in look and feel across factions, but that also doesn't have to be bad. Afterr all Mordu's Legion has ties to the Caldari so you could have Mordu's ships inspired or reverse engineered by caldary engineering or the opposite. As for the new Amarr T3 well, it proves that the stealth guy can do more than lockheed-martiney edge-ridden ships (assuming he did design it, and it feels like he did). A real issue is the fact that those designs tend to stick a bit out, even seeming like they belong in a different game, but I like to think that they represent a new turn in spaceship making lorewise, the cutting-edge as opposed to centuries and decates old hulls that roam around New Eden. This diversity adds up to the realism in my opinion. It's the AK and the M-16, they are still used today and were designed by different people in different times. Finally I like the fact that there is a significant decrease in windows and portholes and glass cockpits. A warship cant look like a floating skyscraper. You need thick mumbojumbonium alloy hulls to feel safe in space.

I don't think I ever saw a model update that made a ship look straight up worse before.

A lot of the ships out there are ruined with awful color schemes. I was looking at my Ashimmu, which is a beautifully structured ship, marred by a dull silver body splotched with maroon (is it rust?) A ship like that with a metallic black paintjob, all shiny and stealthy looking would be something id pay for with real money perhaps. Also the ability to have alliance and corp paint jobs as a template to apply to ships would be a wonderful thing. I think a lot of the minmatar ships with the right combo of metallic and matte paints might look completely different and for the better, and perhaps caldera, whos ships seemed to get a plastic look after the new graphics, might look fantastic with a metal look to them. So yeah, paintjob templates for alliances/corps, and a paint job bay in some stations to customize and save templates, to make ships look a bit more unique would be great.

I simply cannot comprehend the hate for the Imicus, however. It's not my favorite Galente design, but I find it to be a fairly attractive ship. In fact, I might go buy one right now just for giggles. In the interest of full disclosure, the Imicus was the first ship outside the starter vessel that I flew back in 2004. However, I didn't stick with it for more than a week, so it's hard to chock this one up to nostalgia alone. I just think there are OODLES of worse looking boats out there (starting and ending with the Rupture and Typhoon).
