excepting Elite and Eve (that are pretty much givens)
1. Deus Ex (single best finalÚ in a scifi game ever) I think the chosen end path says an awful lot about a person.
2. Fallout1+2 (fantastic stuff; massive replayability)
3. Plainscape Torment (superb writing throughout and a finalÚ that brought a tear to my eye).
...
My award for funniest ending in a computer roleplaying game ever goes to fallout 1.
The situation; I am playing a sneaking assassin-type evolved vault dweller trying to stop some wierd planet-of-the-apes style apocalypic cult from exploding *another* H-bomb on the post-apocalyptic landscape.
So I climb the stairs, hide-in-stadows, by-pass the muscle-bound goons, and approach the villain with my kung-fooed up combat arts and mega-criticals ready to punch his lights out.
Bugger, I fumble a move silently and the goons come running up the stairs with heavy artillary and plasma flamethrowers at the ready.
Queue the "muhhahahaah" speech from the villain and I am thinking .. "maybe this time he's right".
Speech ends, combat begins;
I whirl and go for an eye-punch on flamethrower goon and score a gouging critical - in response he fires ... misses me and toasts the big bad guy with a super critical to instant death.
Laughing so hard I can hardly move the mouse I finish the rest and save the world.
Now thats what I call open-ended plotline!
Love and peace

1) Diplomacy (a board game)
2) Civilisation II (a computer game)
3) Monopoly (a board game)
Hide and Seek was also pretteh kewl (when I was 7)
The skills learned in all these games have helped me greatly in EVE!

1. Starglider II 2. Star Control I 3. Star Flight I
They relate to the Eve universe because they all have "star" in their names!
But seriously, because Starglider was a truly great game. It had true vector solid graphics, had a planetary system you could fly around in, and even the planets were fully rendered down to the ground. You could fly your ship, the Icarus, into the air of the planets, and even into some planetary cores because they had some tunnels built in. The game was very deep, and I never beat it.
Star Control I was an awesome fighting and strategy game. Even though the space combat was 2D, it rocked because each race's ship had different abilities and drawbacks. You could match up one type of ship against another in a ritual combat, or play the campaign and build your fleets ships and build space stations in an effort to conquor the universe. Multiple win scenarios and customizable scenarios made it fun for hours.
Star Flight was a true role playing space game. In this game, it was completely 2D, and the graphics were the least impressive, however the storyline and roleplaying aspect was far superior to any of todays space games. You really were out for an adventure in this game, where you could run into very powerful artifacts, mine minerals on planets of all sizes, and engage in combat with enemy foes that could vaporize your ship in the blink of an eye.
Eve looks good graphically, but it doesn't have anything on these three games.

Anyone remember any of those really crap text only space adventure games from the 8bit era?
You know the type, 'You walk into the engine room. Theres a Crowbar and Laser on the table. Do you go North, South, East or West?
I would always type things like, 'Open Window' |

1. Action-Quake 2. The most elite game put there. More speed, more accuracy, mor skill needed than Counter-Stirke. Played for a year, more or less non-stoped. Trained everyday several hours. Few could really master the skill needed to be a winner in that game. Best Clan fights of all games. Much ACTION in that game. Peew, the best game ever, no doubt.
2. Colin McRae Rally 2. Still one of the best Rally games out there.
3. Elite/Frontier. I played it as a little kid, I didn't know any english but me and my friend played it anyway. Have had a hole in my soul after it so I started searching for an updated new version of it and what did I find? EVE!!! like livin' the Dream!!!

Since my fave games have always varied over the years, I think I can only give those which I like best at current, and they relate to Eve only because ... they are fun as well ...
1. BF 1942/Desert Combat (-=MOH=- Col. Harmor ingame) 2. Operation Flashpoint (haven't played in ages, but still the most realistic war-shooter ever) 3. Eve ____________________________________

This is really hard, I love all games really, but I managed to pick these:
1. Final Fantasy - All of them! There is no other game like it, this is pure fantasy/adventure Art & Love!
2. Anarchy Online! Been at it hard since launch, truly a grand MMORPG despite the buggy beginning. 2 years now going strong still. The world of Rubi Ka is enormous and so open ended I have yet to see it all.
3. Splinter Cell! I include this one because of it's outstanding technology, it's splendor as a Sneak Em Up and the pure fact that it is so darn addictive even after completing it 10+ times. Linear yet there is much freedom in it's gameplay.
There is many more I'd love to include, but these 3 lay close to my heart.

1. Wizardry (anyone that old) 2. Privateer 1 & 2 3. AC1
Eve is very much like Privateer only in an MMO environment. AC1 or Wizardry are by far the most addictive I have played.
