1) Elite. Do you remember the relief the first time you put your docking computer on having spent the last few hours having to dock manually... hmmm blue danube. 2) I-War. Cruiser size ships with a GOOD storyline. 3) Hardwar. Trading, being able to buy offices etc etc.

Actually, EvE is the best game I¦ve ever played. But due to the load of bugs and other issues I just can¦t put it on number one. If CCP ever gets rid of all these bugs and imbalances then it¦ll be my No.1 game for years to come.

Best games...that's impossible. There's at least 20 I would like to have on my list. But well, the best game experiences I've had...or something. EVE isn't even near anything on this list as it's so much slower, not concentrated enough if you understand what I mean. But EVE is still one of the best games ever made IMO.
1. Half-Life. FFS! Best game ever.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Maybe not one of the the best games I've played but it was so damn immersive. And I was quite young.
3. Counter-strike. Not the game itself but all those long night on teamspeak with the clan. Fine memories.

It actually seemed kinda cool how it tracked your moral decisions. i.e. How much change you give back to the blindman, etc.) 2. Doom (The first modem-to-modem game I've ever played. I remember calling my friends and people I knew so I could play them. It's the first game to make me run up huge phonebills because of long distance connects to DWANGO, I was addicted) 3. Quake/Quakeworld/Team Fortress Classic (A team vs. team angle on the FPS games that I love to play. Specializing in your class and playing your role correctly, you could assist your team in claiming victory. This was also the first place I started to see clan gaming pop up)

excepting Elite and Eve (that are pretty much givens)
1. Deus Ex (single best finalÚ in a scifi game ever) I think the chosen end path says an awful lot about a person.
2. Fallout1+2 (fantastic stuff; massive replayability)
3. Plainscape Torment (superb writing throughout and a finalÚ that brought a tear to my eye).
...
My award for funniest ending in a computer roleplaying game ever goes to fallout 1.
The situation; I am playing a sneaking assassin-type evolved vault dweller trying to stop some wierd planet-of-the-apes style apocalypic cult from exploding *another* H-bomb on the post-apocalyptic landscape.
So I climb the stairs, hide-in-stadows, by-pass the muscle-bound goons, and approach the villain with my kung-fooed up combat arts and mega-criticals ready to punch his lights out.
Bugger, I fumble a move silently and the goons come running up the stairs with heavy artillary and plasma flamethrowers at the ready.
Queue the "muhhahahaah" speech from the villain and I am thinking .. "maybe this time he's right".
Speech ends, combat begins;
I whirl and go for an eye-punch on flamethrower goon and score a gouging critical - in response he fires ... misses me and toasts the big bad guy with a super critical to instant death.
Laughing so hard I can hardly move the mouse I finish the rest and save the world.
Now thats what I call open-ended plotline!
Love and peace

1. Starglider II 2. Star Control I 3. Star Flight I
They relate to the Eve universe because they all have "star" in their names!
But seriously, because Starglider was a truly great game. It had true vector solid graphics, had a planetary system you could fly around in, and even the planets were fully rendered down to the ground. You could fly your ship, the Icarus, into the air of the planets, and even into some planetary cores because they had some tunnels built in. The game was very deep, and I never beat it.
Star Control I was an awesome fighting and strategy game. Even though the space combat was 2D, it rocked because each race's ship had different abilities and drawbacks. You could match up one type of ship against another in a ritual combat, or play the campaign and build your fleets ships and build space stations in an effort to conquor the universe. Multiple win scenarios and customizable scenarios made it fun for hours.
Star Flight was a true role playing space game. In this game, it was completely 2D, and the graphics were the least impressive, however the storyline and roleplaying aspect was far superior to any of todays space games. You really were out for an adventure in this game, where you could run into very powerful artifacts, mine minerals on planets of all sizes, and engage in combat with enemy foes that could vaporize your ship in the blink of an eye.
Eve looks good graphically, but it doesn't have anything on these three games.

1. Action-Quake 2. The most elite game put there. More speed, more accuracy, mor skill needed than Counter-Stirke. Played for a year, more or less non-stoped. Trained everyday several hours. Few could really master the skill needed to be a winner in that game. Best Clan fights of all games. Much ACTION in that game. Peew, the best game ever, no doubt.
2. Colin McRae Rally 2. Still one of the best Rally games out there.
3. Elite/Frontier. I played it as a little kid, I didn't know any english but me and my friend played it anyway. Have had a hole in my soul after it so I started searching for an updated new version of it and what did I find? EVE!!! like livin' the Dream!!!

This is really hard, I love all games really, but I managed to pick these:
1. Final Fantasy - All of them! There is no other game like it, this is pure fantasy/adventure Art & Love!
2. Anarchy Online! Been at it hard since launch, truly a grand MMORPG despite the buggy beginning. 2 years now going strong still. The world of Rubi Ka is enormous and so open ended I have yet to see it all.
3. Splinter Cell! I include this one because of it's outstanding technology, it's splendor as a Sneak Em Up and the pure fact that it is so darn addictive even after completing it 10+ times. Linear yet there is much freedom in it's gameplay.
There is many more I'd love to include, but these 3 lay close to my heart.

1. Chrono Trigger--best console RPG ever, and one of the best RPGs on any platform, in my opinion; story, gameplay...it has it all
2. Master of Magic (and, more recently, Age of Wonders 2)--deep strategy, fun tactical battles, and a great atmosphere
3. TIE Fighter--how can you not love blowing up X-Wings with a TIE Interceptor? :b
I can think of a ton of other games that I could put up there too, so really these are more "first among equals" than the unqualified best.

1)X-Tension 2)Elite 3)Mule
X-Tension and its predecessor/skeleton game, X-Beyond the Frontier (X-BTF) seemed much closer to Elite than Eve, especially with direct control-first person flight.
Lot of fun stuff in X-Tension that's 'Coming Soon' (tm) in Eve, like buildable stations, communications satelites, sentry guns. Just not that well known because the company, Egosoft, is based in I think, the Netherlands? And marketing and distribution to the US kinda got screwed up. Sequal's about to come out pretty soon I think

1) Outpost 2 2) Subspace 3) Tanarus
Outpost 2 was, well the best RTS I've ever played. Period. Single player was atrocious but multiplayer was simply brilliant. How it relates to EVE? I don't know.
Subspace is a small free game that's like 3.2mb in size, and has been around for about 5 years. Still a lot of fun though.
Tanarus was a ton of fun until Sony made it P2P and ruined most of the community. And that ladies and gentlemen is why I hate Sony.

1. Elite 2. Myth (The Fallen Lords - but also M2) 3. Eve
I'm simply amazed that nobody else has referred to the Myth series. TFL took hold of my life for over 5 years and the story is not quite finished yet.

Pirates!
I loved Pirates! sooo much. I remember sacking a town when both the Silver Train and Treasure Fleet were it town. Woot! I'm reading the Jack Aubrey novels by Patrick O'Brien now, freaking rule. Sure, everyone supports saving Einstein's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, suddenly you've "gone too far". |

*One* Person mentioned Homeworld?
Bloody Philistines! That game was a work of art. EVE (at least visually) owes a nod to it. Atmosphere-wise, it rivalled some of the better RPG/Adventure games i've played for the degree in which it pulls you in. Musical score just "fit" so well. I'd often just pause the game to listen to the music.
As ever..just my opinion.

Measured by percentage of llife-suckage time:
1) Sid Meyer's Pirates! on the C64 2) Tie: Civilization II and Empire II: The Art of War 3) Adventure on the Atari 2600
I am old school. -_-
Probably the only thing any of those have to due with EVE is that Pirates! had drunken pirates you could hire as crew, and EVE had Stavros. - - - -
I have measured and described the stars, their great and countless multitude. What man has seen their revolutions and entrances? Not even the angels see their number, yet I have recorded all their names.
- The Book of the Secrets of Enoch, Jewish Pseudepigrapha
We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.
