British Summertime, or Daylight Savings Time, is one hour ahead of GMT.

The UK is running at BST - British Summer Time. So we're an hour ahead of GMT.
When the clocks go back later in the year we'll be in sync again.

The farmers have denied this, they say it's so the kids come home from school in daylight. The fact that most farmers are also local councillors is irrelevant though

Its helping everyone who maybe isn't in Britain so they don't have to base their lives around the time we run on Not to mention that CCP (Icelandic) don't run on British time. Before anyone mentions that the servers are in Britain, I know, but they don't maintain themselves there

Welcome to the modern world.
If you think about it a bit more you'll realise that it helps everyone. It means that everyone playing the game gets to see the same time and arranging meetings and events is just a matter of using game time. If the clock showed local time everyone would keep having to translate and convert depending where they all lived.
Computers all around the world do the same thing. Even the computer you are using to read this message is running according to UTC/GMT. It's just that when it has to interact with you personally it knows how to pretend otherwise.
If you want to know the local time get a clock. If you want to work in an international community you should learn to put aside your own peculiar local culture and preferences. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Both garbage. We have exactly the same amount of daylight, whether it's from 6am till 10pm, 5am till 9pm, or 1pm until silly o'clock. Moving the time zone around does NOT increase the amount of daylight.
Stopping people from being goddam lazy and not getting up early enough, saves electricity. There's got to be a more efficient way of doing that than farting about with the clocks twice every year. Just get up at 6am instead of 8am, for crying out loud. ________________________________________________

Farmers dont need Daylight Savings anymore the combines/tractors have headlights and are GPS guided. i seriously saw this thing on historychannel once where the farmer said he was just there to keep an eye on things, the combine drove itself based on Satellites.

Edited by: Traellium on 08/07/2006 14:18:47 Stack on top of all that the issues when north america changes the months in which daylight savings is going to be active (think it starts in spring of 2008), staying with plain old GMT works fine for me.
If they also changed for daylight savings, but not also the extra month in spring and fall, there would be 4 times per year that the gmt time to ours is different, instead of twice like it is now.
I think all mmorpg's should stay in GMT.

TG I live in Arizona. No "day light savings" here. The last thing we need is more "day ligth".
Just need to figure out what the rest of the country is doing. Some time we are the same time as Denver some times were are an hour behind.

Daylight savings would be more useful if you could save it until you really need it .. like at night, or on rainy days, or something.
Never understood why the sun comes out in the day anyway - it would be better to come out at night to stop it being dark, daytime is light anyway.

Today i got up around 2 PM, THATS electricity saving:
1. no need for breakfast 2. no headache from last night 3. no need for electricity for dualscreen-PC (and other stuff offcourse)
And people need 1 hour less electricity in the evening...

Also think about the players on the southern hemisphere. They got the seasons upside down. Summer for northern hemisphere is winter for southern hemisphere. Hence, for the countries that do have daylight savings, DST is reversed.
If EVE Servers adhered to daylight savings in the UK, the servertime would shift two hours for the people with DST in the south, instead of servertime changing by one hour for everyone living in a country with DST. ________ Capitalization is the difference between "I helped my uncle Jack off his horse." and "I helped my uncle jack off his horse."
Help the horses, make proper use of that shift button. |

False. Business hours are 9am-5pm; in March, before the clocks go forward, it's daylight at 7am and stays light until well after 7pm. ________________________________________________

I believe it saves electricity for the government. Namely schools and the bureaucraty since they don't need to turn on the lights as much anymore.
Of course the fact that people would need to use more electricity at home to compensate is irrelevant since only the government exists, nobody else :)
