Hi all, just wanted to cast out a feeler thread to see what your thoughts are on the upcoming Hyperion release.
Are you excited about the upcoming Hyperion expansion due to be released in 21 days? What do you know about what's in-store with the patch/expansion?
Here's what we can glean from the 2 posts in the Features and Ideas forum:
- Heavy Assault Cruisers will receive minor tweaks
- Explorer's will be able to find new Jump Drive Economizer loot in Beseiged Ghost Sites
- Capital pilots receive a new fitment option in the aforementioned Jump Drive Economizer
When do you expect to see a devblog providing more detail on the theme and changes to be made in Hyperion?
Thanks, Sven |

Its getting a slight nerf actually. Tracking bonus going from 7.5% to 5% per level. GÇ£I personally refuse to help AAA take space from itself so it can become an even shittier version of itselfGÇ¥ -Grath Telkin, 2014.

There are a lot of "meh" responses in this thread in regards to the upcoming "named' patch/expansion...
Do you feel that CCP is obligated to release exciting new content in accordance with their new 6 week release plan or is it sufficient that they merely tweak the current meta with statistic changes and add an occasional module here and there?
Do you get the impression that CCP is excited about their EVE Online product anymore, or do you think it's tapering down. I've heard that businesses in Iceland have long summer vacation periods, do you think this is the cause of a seeming lull in communication out of CCP? |

No because the new expansion release plan is simply a advertising ploy.. that all.
All there doing is giving patch releases fancy names in a effort to mask the fact that they are ignoring what a significant percentage base of the player base are asking for. |

As I have serious doubts about this entire "process" of 6 weeks releases, I have little expectation.
Fact of the matter is, major content will always be spaced out due to the time needed to create and implement, and minor crap will continue to come out in dribs and drabs -- just like has been happening for the last couple of years now.
Nothing has really changed.... CCP just has a new pretty workflow calendar hanging in the office... with more colour bars and cool little icons to give the staff something to point at and wonder "dafuq?".
And maybe they give one of the kids a box of crayons from time to time and let the kid fill in the timetable.

Re the expansions, I'm not hyped but looking forward to seeing what comes out over the next few. The "Little Things" tend to please me more than new stuff or feature content anyway. Despite the awesome trailer, the notion of building stargates and opening up new space got a bit of a 'meh' response from me. Whereas something relatively minor, such as adding logis to killmails would definitely make me clap my paws in joy. Although it'd probably generate some whining/sneering from others. v0v it's hard to please everybody all the time.
Player preference/inclination/location/affiliation (and possibly age) affect their enthusiasm for expansion themes. There is a generally negative tone at the moment on the forums and news sites, but I'm not sure that represents ingame attitudes perfectly. There's also a fair bit of misery rubbing off on those who haven't really formed an opinion but tend to follow the more vocal. DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! |

I have an alt specifically trained for them (per the Mastery tabs) and getting very good results even with less than 5 million SP. It's a tanking monster.
For PVP it suffers from the same fate as other battleships that do the same job a little better so you probably don't see them die in a fire much. The fit that inspired me (thanks to Dracvlad) is a PVP fit and my noob alt with less than 3M SP was running level 4s with a PVP fit and still is since March. Admittedly the "damage as tank" model where delivering the spank is a higher priority makes the Megathron the go to ship for more brutal face-melting brawling while the Hyperion can sustain more damage and fight at a distance with its generous drone bay.
I have not seen any fleet doctrines with the Hyperion and don't know but I suspect there's a good reason for that close to my presumptions about the mega and what we have seen with the Domi thus far. But a well-fit Hyperion with the right skills, from my experience, is one heck of a good ship. Bring back DEEEEP Space! |

If I have understood it correct the patch coming in 21 days is supposed to contain the second part of the industry release - namely the invention overhaul?
Perhaps they will get also around at last removing the T2 BPO's from the game. Autumn would be kind of logical spot to do it as the returing players from the summer would (probably) smooth out the drop in subs when some number of T2 BPO owners ragequits (for whole several weeks) over such outrageous change.
In any case there seems to be some kind of surprise up the CCP sleeve as if you look the moderation in these two known threads about features of this expansion they are .. very strict .. about "rumours" in there.

To derail derailment a little I will state what could get me excited about incoming releases: - t3 cruisers made usable in all combinations of subsystems, - home among stars I could build anywhere, - meaningful gameplay in mining, - drones as fully fledged weapon system with proper UI, - streamlined and easy to understand and manage overview settings, - ability to accept/complete missions remotely if there's no "delivery" requirement, - NPC ships fitted in proper way (cruise missiles machariels, seriously?) - exploration system that would actually let me explore instead of "warp and clickfest" stub

As has been well said by Carniflex above, the next "expansion" is supposed to be finishing off the new industry with invention changes.
I'd like to see:
GÇó Research Project Management skill changed to do something other than drip datacores into the game which are now in massive oversupply thanks to FW LP stores GÇó T2 BPOs made available on the market or via invention (or some research 'project'... *see above) or alternatively all converted to 3 production months worth of BPCs GÇó Invention teams GÇó Some actual work done by CCP to improve the overall game rather than tinkering with stats of a couple of ships and massively ramping up the "skins" / Aurum revenue generators and calling it an 'expansion'.
I expect to see:

The dates of the first 2 have now been changed. Industry pushed back, pushing back the Corp/Alliance changes. Corp/Alliance changes not so far announced for the next release.
So it's hard to be excited about any of it. I appreciate their continued development of the game, but I'm not going to get wrapped up in the hype of these releases as the information isn't consistent enough so far.

The 6 week window means that things will*cough* should ship when they're done. The kind of unenviable work they're doing, ripping out legacy systems and jamming in new ones, is not easy to schedule.
So yeah, there are going to be some yawner releases. They're much better than yawner expansions.

im just going to jump in on this one right quick..
the dev's are using the new catch phrase "vision".. yet they're obviously blind cause they're going with a named expansion called Hyperion.. yet decided to completely shun the actual battleship in terms of expansion level new content...
nope.. their meaning of "vision" now means we'll do a small tweak and perhaps change up a few things that will allow the player to have more fittings... that's content??? really??????????
not excited at all.. I want the new dominix re-imaged ship.. I want the new rorqual and her new look.. that's having a vision but fraid to say.. cant see a vision right now cause its time for vacation. :(
they need to really remove this "expansion" term and go with patch updates cause I cant really see "new content" on expansion level when in fact its only tweaks and adjustments.
I know things are different here when they use terms and it is what it is.. but this stuff is far from expansions.
expansions = new areas, new AI spawns, new revamps, new missions, new something elsewhere. here its.. small tweaks, perhaps one major fix, nerfs, nerfs again, oops add in a module to fix the nerf, watch market react to the nerfs, forum rage, folks saying "ive had it im out", poor ISD dude going off on forums about it then sounding like a robot, a csm member comment, alliance members comments, trolling, bickering, and then a dev responding in cryptic fashion.... this is an eve "expansion" all put together.

Training anything that has become popular is risky.
The "EVE cycle" is generally:
1. Some patch accidentally makes certain module or ship optimal (possibly but not necessarily overpowered)
2. EVE being a spreadsheet game even a 1% advantage to a module or ship means people will train for it
3. Eventually new ship/module will become popular and show up in killmails and mission systems etc possibly even make it into a few fleet doctrines.
4. Haters will start trolling GD citing popularity as evidence item is OP and unbalanced and sometimes post impractical EFT fits that give an exaggerated false impression of benefits of mod.
5. On the basis of 3 and 4 new players start training towards ship/module.
6. In reaction to 3 and 4 the module/ship is "balanced" in a new patch and made totally useless.
Soooo .... Moral is if you cannot train into the new favorite toys really early be careful and do not put all your eggs in the one basket.
That said ... HACS are a useful ship class to have regardless of the ishtar. |

The short version of the mass change is that it screws up a core mechanic.
If you know absolutely nothing about wormholes it's hard to explain without getting into a lot of detail, but I suppose you could say the equivalent in kspace of changing gates so that you land at a random point within the constellation. Very useful for a few specific cases, but highly annoying for the rest of them.
Or perhaps a better analogy would be if taking a cyno landed you "somewhere nearby" the cyno. Not the end of the world in some cases, but certain death in others, especially considering that the "cyno" in wormspace has previously allowed you to withdraw without anyone chasing you.
Suffice to say: it's a core mechanic and the tweak would directly impact a lot of wormhole corporations who are based around the core mechanic not being drastically changed. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the death of wormholes, I would go as far as to say that it's probably the coffin of wormholes. |

If CCP caves on this change you can pretty much bet that they'll never do anything to upset the status-quo of SOV and fix the stagnation there either. But hopefully it'll go through and will cause some excitement the same way shaking up moongoo did for null last year.
The good news about w-space is that it'll still be difficult for a CFC type of entity to form there, but then again I've learned to never underestimate players ability, through "making friends", to make their game as boring as possible. ~ Professional Forum Alt -á~ |

Most of the changes are good/welcome.
The mass<>jump variance change has seen over 50 pages of reasons against so far across two different threads. The first being the one in which the community found out about the change in a far more drastic and unpalatable form before any communication from CCP about any proposed change to wormhole space. This was met with justifiable suspicion and anger over yet another oft repeated instance seeming as if CCP was sneaking in a change that they community has never requested and does not want. Prior to this player discovery no discussion had taken place with the community or, as far as I am aware, our CSM rep. The second is the actual feedback thread related to the dev blog section pertaining to the mass<>jump variance proposal. Again, as in the first locked thread, the overwhelming majority of the community is opposed to this particular portion of the devblog and full expects to being loudly saying "I told you so..." in a few months time when the publicly stated goal of this particular change doesn't come to pass. Either player ingenuity or player apathy will cause this particular design goal to fall flat, imo.
But, the TLDR is a sad constant for CCP in a lot of cases, especially those dealing with wspace. Never not fail to communicate in an open and timely fashion. Never.

Drama queens and their crystal balls. Everyone knows what's really going on. Failure to recognize that point makes continuing a discussion around that point not worth having.

The change from 7.5% to 5% is actually not enough to curb its overwhelming strength. I think they should keep a 7.5% or even 10% bonus to optimal range and remove the bonus to tracking entirely.
Thing is they wanted to make the tracking hull bonus a "Gallante Thing" and so far only the Domi and ishtar (as far as I know) can do it at all.
Fiddling with drone tracking seems to be a CCP hobby at present with: - nerfing Domi/ishtar bonuses - nerfing omnis - adding a new low slot module that can improve it - fiddling with the stats of the various drone types |

Didn't say it was perfect, but it did generate stories and kept a 11 year old MMO in the public eye, brought in new players, and kept old time players interested.
Hiding in a wormhole, after exploiting goofy mechanics to generate 100% safety does pretty much none of that, as a matter of fact, if you tried to start a new game where the meta was "rolling wormholes" for hours to eliminate or find PvP, chances are pretty good you'd be laughed out of existence. ~ Professional Forum Alt -á~ |

Makes sense, though, given what I know of you. If you actually put forth a concrete position for the record instead of just anklebiting, then you give people the opportunity to disprove it.

I often wonder why you display so much fear at the prospect of speaking for yourself. Could it be that if you did so you'd have to realize that almost no one agrees with what you want, and that realization would be painful? Could it bring back memories of your failed attempts to get 10 living souls together on SiSi to test something while "that failed lawyer" you keep ranting about has thousands of real human beings who will respond to his calls for action?

No, it won't. Say it with me now; 'jet fighters in space games do not = EVE'. No game that allows people to decide who they play with (whether it's Elite's proposed "small trusted groups only" mechanic or Star Citizens "private servers") will ever be any competition for EVE. No game with instancing and artificial limits on how many people you can interact with at once will either.
As it was with Black Prophecy, SWG, SWTOR, the aborted Jumpgate game and Star Trek Online, people will go try it (yelling loudly about how EVE sucks as they leave) and then slink back quietly when they figure out that the things they professed to hate in EVE were the things that made EVE worth playing, things that others games don't (or refuse to) have.
Not that I won't personally be playing the hell out of Elite (and SC, and Valk), I like fun little distraction games sometimes, but EVE isn't a game, it's a way of life

As I did asked CCP Fozzie last year at the AU fanfest is CCP going to do something with PI as it is a click fest.
And still nothing has been done about it nearly one year later.
ISD this is not a negative post its is asking a question to CCP why something has not been done to fix the PI problem which has been around for quite some time.
I hope that will be in the next Patch / Expansion after Hyperion Patch

My guess is on the grand scheme of things, pi being a click fest is not high on the books for a reworking. I assume, however, if legion is green lite and if it does get more functionality out of being linked to eve, this will need to be addressed. Though quite annoying (can;t we at least select all the damn reactors and set the same damn reaction bp for them?) its prolly not priority one. but we will see In a room full of dumb blondes, EvE is the smart red head on the other side of the room.-á Lots of men like dumb blondes, and not everyone will like the smart red head, but she doesn;t need to change to be a dumb blonde.-á She is perfect how she is.-á Thats EvE vs other mmo's.-á You either like the red head, or you don't. |

The majority? The fact hat EVE has lasted as an MMO for 11 years is a flat out miracle in the MMO scene, it's in the top 1% of MMO's ever made, and a big reason behind it is because they haven't been listening to self appointed speakers for the so called majority.
