Why are all the best forum posters from the UK? Miso, Jade, Darth Tom, Joshua, Hardin etc etc...
I bet the UK players are a minority, so do you guys simply not enjoy posting anything but smaktalk on the forums? (Obviously that is a generalisation as there are some good US posters but definitely a much lower ratio of % of posters to % of players).
Any rational explanations?

Years of watching Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Ab Fab, Big Train, League of Gentlemen et al has warped the mindset of UK players irrepairably.

Edited by: Miso on 05/10/2003 11:12:31 Edited by: Miso on 05/10/2003 11:03:51 Theres definitely a US/Europe difference on forum topics...you see it when US is offline and the EU swamps the boards - first thing in the morning, the US players have been posting throughout (our) night, and the topics are soooo different.
Without intending to be inflammatory, the US players do complain more, but thats because they are more serious about the game and game issues, which is not a bad thing at all. They also post more on technical issues etc.
The EU people tend to be a bit more calm and a bit more ironic. And slightly more "eccentric". I'll stop generalising now.
DB - best as in what? I can talk crap, but thats about it - i don't have other posters talent for articulating game issues or bugs, or exploits etc. Some people can see so many issues that I never would have thought of, mainly cos Im too busy taking the **** out of Hardin... edited for spolling mitakes -------------------------------------------- Dead

oi...stop it you naughty girl!
I am not in the mood anyway since Oracle killed my BS last night *sob*
Actually, if there is a difference then I think it is probably because we are all slackers in the UK... and therefore have tonnes of time to be witty (or not )

I'm not so sure that the UK folks are such a minority. Most of my previous 2 corps were from UK or EU, and it also seems to be true of alot of the players I talk to ingame as well.
It could just be the weird hours I keep.
*chuckle* starting to look forward to your WOTDs, Miso.

DB interesting topic, but you left off one of one of my personal faves, Scrapyard Jack. Haven't seen him around the forums as much lately, but judging from the look of his avatar, I'm not sure what planet he comes from, let alone what continent.... His posts have a high chuckle factor for me anyway. And no best list could be complete without the ever helpful and knowledgeable j0sephine.
Being an American who lived in the UK for 5 years, I found most of my UK friends pretty funny (probably why I hung out with them), but then again so are most of my US friends.... I do find that US gamers specifically are a more serious bunch though, so that probably reflects what you're seeing on the boards.
And to Hardin, my sympathy for your loss sir, but the EVE world must know: Did Oracle loot the precious Shiny Disco Balls post kill? The very fabric of the universe could be torn asunder should they be used for ebil.

Scrapyard Jack doesn't know whether to feel honoured or insulted..

I meant it as a compliment, you're a funny guy. But in hindsight I can see where it looks a bit of a backhanded one Scrapyard does have that Jay Leno chin thing going on though....
Keep on posting man, you ***** me up. Too much whining/smacktalk on these boards.

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 05/10/2003 14:08:15 I¦m german. Well what can I say... I enjoy posting on the more constructive threads since I don¦t like pretty much all the other topics. So you¦ll usually find me posting where people are discussing ingame-issues. Additionally I only surf the forums when I¦m playing the game (multimonitoring). The forums are a cool entertainment when you¦re mining or doing any other of the more timeconsuming things in the game.
I enjoy reading flamewars tho but I don¦t participate in them since that¦s a little to childish for me Then if I want just the normal chit-chat I talk to my corpmates cause they all talk german.
To be honest though I think gamers are pretty much the same, no matter where they come from.

I must admit, Scrapyard Jack rules ... always great.
But there are a lot of other good posters; Art Dilinja, Rebellion, Sarkos, Halseth Durn, Zaphod, Setec, The Wretch ... etc etc
My thing is intelligence and clarity of wit ... If a chap can string a good argument together with a little linguistic pzazz then my heart goes a-flutter ;)

I'm from the US, and I think posters here are a little bit more aggressive, and argumentative.
Also, yes, more childish and more likely to flame, taunt, insult and bash others.
This kind of patterns itself after our society. Sometimes I'm amazed at the physical and mental brutallity of the younger crowd in this country. I can't believe how angry most kids in this country seem to be. And I can't believe how trivial death has become to most Americans.
I know I've been guilty of all this on these forums. I kind of equate my own situation to that of road rage. I am not a confrontational person in everyday life, but when stuck in traffic, it can get very ugly, I can swear like no other. Same thing happens to me on these forums. And this is the first game that has done this to me, it probably has to do with the PvP aspects of EVE.
Either way, Americans seem to excel at taking things to the extreme, no matter what we are involed in, and this can be good or bad...

I thought that only people in the Uk played this game. Maybe I should post this as a new topic on the board and see what response I get.

As a US citizen, I think I can correctly say that it's all because we're inbred trailer-park dwellers who dropped out of the 9th grade. We lack old-world refinement, you see.
That's gotta be it. :)

Ah DB I think it has less to do where you are from and more to do with word smith ability. Not sure I agree with all of your selections but most are good choices. A lot of the us players I know don't care about the forums.

(This isn't anti-US in any way)
Personally I reckon it's 'cos we Brits aren't big complainers. We don't tend to complain about the food in restaurants to the waiter, we just make sure we don't go there again.
There's also the point that for many players, English isn't their first language (note - this includes Yorkshiremen), so they can't really express themselves as fully as they would in say, Serbo-Croat. That's in no way a criticism, as the standard of English of players for whom it's not a first language is generally very good.
This might be a bit controversial, but in my experience, we Brits (and other Euros as well, and that includes the French ) don't take ourselves as seriously as some Americans.
Oh, and the pubs shut at 11pm here (unless you're in Scotland, amongst the shortbread and heather), so we've got nothing else to do... - Carp Riddell - CEO, Innsmouth Shipping - Proud Member of Curse Alliance
