Liked everything except the part of no global deals. I hope this will get a rethink. Other than that it looks really good.

The "no-global" thing will hurt. Means more traveling, more time wasted.
And New Worls Order patch has something to do with it also... The more 0.0 entrys are great, very good thing, very happy with it. But NWO screwed up empire totaly, and didn't bring anything. It just split up Yulai to Jita, Oursulaert and Rens. Before the patch, people came to Yulai, bought or sold stuff and went back where they came from. Now they sit in Jita/Rens/Oursulaert, cause they have stuff to do there. In Yulai you could only mine... But you had highways to all mayor regions, so you were quicly in the shopping mall and back out - empire was small.
And with these contract changes even more people will go to Jita to sell stuff.
Only way to resolve the "500-people-in-local" problem is that the market (or atleast the contract system) is more global and you have some kind of door to door delivery (UPS, FedEX, DHL).
And one suggestion, please add an option to the contracts. additional optional payment for delivery.

Edited by: Tachy on 27/07/2006 20:04:37 What make Escrow interesting? It isn't the ability to trade illegal stuff. You can't enter stuff with an illegal rating anywhere into escrow. It isn't the missing search feature.
It is the global visibility.
Well. It is a nice set of features you got coming for us! And we already discovered that new science skill listed in the market. Please bring more (and make that other blog from this week sticky again!).
Edit: Ummm, only for the corp, not for the alliance?

Well... if the contracts are exportable (hint hint ccp ), and with courier missions being only global to corps, I can see some enterprising person start "Universal Parcel System" as a corp, which will pick up and move couriers assigned to them at their pre-computed rates. In fact, I may have to create an alt and start it myself :) ---- EVE-Central.com - Cross-region market view and trade finder |

I bet I know why they restrict contracts to regions... It has to do with all the data that has to be loaded every time you access the screens. I mean, it almost has to be more data that's going to be loaded when this gets implemented. It also goes along with CCP's policy of de-centralization. Splitting Yulai to Jita, Ours., and Rens was a *good* thing. Imagine the incredible load on Yulai if that old hub was still alive and kicking. CRAZY!
With Contracts the economy will be more regionalized, hopefully spreading the CPU load. Lord knows we're going to need it even more spread out in the future. Making people travel more is what CCP wants, I think it's almost requiered for the future. And I personally think it will make a better game for us.
I can't wait for the Contracts.

i am afraid that exactly the opposite effect is gonna happen, meaning everyone and his mother will bring his goodies to jita/oursolaert and escrow them there

Just one per would be absolutely retarded, and it would seem to me the devs would be kicking themselves in the balls to deliberately deny players the ability to make an empire out of CROTCH deals. It only makes sense that it would progress the way market skills do.

This Blog looked extremly promising till "No global contracts".
You make such a good tool for Eve and then you nerf it to hell. WHY THIS?
1) De-centralizing: Restricting escrows to regions will achieve the reverse effect. Nearly everybody will start an auction only in the trade-hubs (Jita etc.), because they want to maximise the number of people which can see the auction. The consequence: Nearly every serious trader will move an alt to the most important trading hub. Sure, there will be niche-markets in the "lesser" regions, but all really interesting auctions will be in Jita (or another hub).
2) Server-load: Will the server-traffic for the contract-system be handled by the standard SOL-servers? If yes, please try to change this to one specialiced server. Then it wonŠt be interesting for the server, where the escrow is located.
3) RP-reasons: Please donŠt nerf the economy because of RP-reasons.
@CCP: Please give us the reason for nerfing the contract-system as much! Please discuss this again and change it if possible.

What, collapsing inwards to a few centers? The market isn't spreading at even a fraction of the rate the PCU is...

Thats what I suggested a long time ago. But whatever system we get, trade hubs will stay cuz some ppl dont learn that escrow/market/contracts work in every system with a station.

True, except that I dont want to be forced to fly to a certain spot to buy something. Traveling isnt exactly what I call fun.
Just remove escrow/contracts from certain systems so they have to move out to other systems. Like Jita. Remove the market/escrow/contracts from there and ppl must go to the surrounding systems. This will most likely not work cuz ppl just pick another system and build a trade hub there with 500 ppl in local.

No globals = BAD.
With the added filtering, I dont see the problem.
Simply do a "top 100" (or whatever) if no filtering is chosen.
If people are lookign for somethgn specific, they use the filter to find it.
End effect - Not alot of data needs to be transported - I'm assuming the no global is to restrict the data
As was said, with no global, we'll just end up with a few overwhelmed hubs - and.. Nothign will have been achived, as those hubs will have to load stacks and stacks of data anyhow.
Sorry CCP - Bad design. Might look reasonable from a SQL/Bandwidth perspective - That is until you think in user behaviour as well.
Please rethink this.
I'm willing to wager quite a bit that you wont actually achieve what (I think) you are trying to achive, by using this aproach (non global)

The cost will also increase with the amount of time your contract is visible to others up to a maximum time of 1 week or thereabouts. Private contracts will be relatively cheap with just a few coins slipped to the guy at the SCC Contracts Bureau so he doesn't misplace the paperwork.
This looks like the market which makes it useless to add BPOs to it cuz they would cost the one setting it up billions.

To make coding easier, CCP should just delete one part of the contracts system before it's launch:
Auctions
Why will it be dead on arrival?
Because if the info is correct, using the system will take a percentage fee of the final selling price. Do you really want to lose that from a T2 BPO auction?
Or worse, do you want to have to pay a percent of the buy out price upfront to list it?
I doubt, with these restrictions, the auction feature will be used for the big ticket items. Which is a shame, as that what it was meant for.
Don't even get me started about not being able to see across regions. --

will this system also prevent "escrow droppoff" ? and the subsequent need to place the item on bid again due to its being knocked off the visible listings?
the idea of an high priced item costing more to place and be taxed is also a good idea, comensurate with return. makes for interesting item sales. |

even if you dont want us to be able to do a global search on every region of the universe, you could give us at least the option to look into any region we want. i mean, one filter should be a blank space where you put the name of the region, and if you leave it blank, the default option is to show only the contracts on your region.
that way, it wont be so resource demanding, and we would still be able to create contracts from any region into any region, and also see all the available contracts on the region we want without having to fly there

CCP.. Please listen to the population. This thread will get very long with the same complaint. We need global selling and viewing to make this viable. The skills you suggest are silly and should not necessary. The auctions price tag is also silly. This is why the forums are so popular. Cause its FREE and trading to players is FREE. What possible incentive are you giving by charging us?
Please let me give you a daily example of how escrow is used and apply it to your new system.
Someone not in my corp in the Domain region sells gisti stuff. Im in the Forge region and want to find somebody that sells this stuff. I look in region and humm nobody has it. I dont want to fly to 10 other regions or have alts at every major hub to find it. Without global search, I can not find it.
Times this example by 10k players (small number). Lots of unhappy buyers and sellers and the creation of a bigger JITA for everyone to get what they want. Not just the # in local is this issue, No sir re bob. Now every single empire ganker and his alt will be at every gate and station waiting to scan you. They will sucide their fully insured tech 1 ship to get what you have. This makes no sence to me, I am sorry |

How is the contract system better???
I was really hoping for something that won't require me to replace everything on escrow every 3 hours.
Non-Global?!?!????
just 1 contract without skills??
and what nonsense is the 'freeform'? an simple evemail will have the same effect since the private contracts will not be 'on the record' anyway
I would rather need to refresh the escrow every hour than use the new system.

Edited by: Patch Esquire on 27/07/2006 23:15:42 No global = not good.
For fear of sounding like a stuck record- no globals will mean bigger hubs, more empire traffic, and less incentive / more obstacles still for averager Mr. Pilot to move out to 0.0 (live the dream, CCP). Global contract access would mean we would feel much more free to enter our goods into the market wherever we may be- even out in some forsaken back water, and still know that people can see it and come buy it. At the moment, when i want a decently priced T2 drone, i still have to fly all the way out to one fo the hubs to buy it, because no self respecting T2 manufacture would be trying to sell their wares out in the depths of 0.0. And that means more travelling, more traffic in empire, and less fun. True global markets would mean that the 0.0 population would *finally* be free from empire, good and proper.
The skill thing though? I don't know what you're all whining about. Dont you get it yet? EVE has lots of skills to learn- its the most basic mechanic in the whole game. If you can't be arsed to wait for a skill to train up- well, go back to WOW and kill yourself some imp things.
EDIT: Bah, that was my alt. Damned fiddly forums........
