It has been my goal ever since I have become a battleship pilot to kill a Raven, solo in PVP Combat.
I have tested many different Battleships except for.. Megathron, Dominix, Scorpion, Raven. For the cases I have tested it just seems like I need a perfect optimal, lots and lots of repairers or hardners and luck that they have not fit resistance specific to my damage type.
So community of Eve, tell me how do you take down a raven in Solo PVP, What ship do you use? What Weapon systems? Are there any tricks to combating these beasts of no optimal, only kill zone and loads of tanking.

Your best bet is probably a Nosdomi...you use nosferatus to sustain your own tank while killing the Raven's tank (shield tanks are very cap sensitive), and five heavy drones (really should be T2) to apply the damage. ECM can help here, although with FoF missiles, he can still keep shooting when jammed, albeit with significantly reduced DPS.

Wow lots of reads. It seems like there are three effective counters to a Raven. A NOSDomi, A blasterthron Is good I hear and a Scorpion...
This thread has a ton of reads for only one reply, doesnt anyone else have any clues as to the weakness of a Raven?

raven weakness... um for anything bigger than a commet nothing. You either have amazing skill/tactics or you die a painfull explosive death. It is quite impressive how their missiles take no cap and hit the same at any range. (just like lasers ) your best bet is to get a couple vagas and tear him a new one. (any fast small ship works BTW, just a matter of MISSILES NEVER MISS)

You should pop a cruise raven with ease. An equally skilled torp raven is a tough nut to *****: best bets are a nosdomi, nosphoon or another raven IMO.

To kill a raven you just need a good tank and NOS/neuts, tanking the raven isn't really a problem on a BS you just need to kill it's cap... - - - - - - I have no strong feelings one way or the other... |

Uhm, no? T2 Raven will rip appart any Megathron/Tempest, regardles how good their tank is. To beat a Raven you need lots of ECM. I doubt a pure NOS domi without ECM will cut it, since the Raven will inject it's cap through a Cap Booster. If it gets a lucky jam or even two it gets interesting... I have been looking to kill a Raven in Solo for many weeks now. With the help of a friend (who was in a Raven and could fit what he pleased every test we did) I have found a semi effective ship. Its NOT a setup for the faint of heart. Expensive items with long skill times and is exretmely skill instensive.
The Apoloclypse is what I have found to work the best. However its not the ship, its the setup. Bascially it boils down to having 8 Tach II's with Gleam L (Short Range).
The Mediums you fit 3 Caldari Specific Racial Jammers and a Cap Booster
Lows are pretty much DMG mods and PG/CPU mods. Med Armour Repairer.
With 5 Explosive/Kinetic T2 drones it will make short(ish) work of the Raven.
Be warned, its not a tanker, and you gotta be lucky too. But its the best idea I can give you. Hope it helps.

against a shield tanked raven I recommend attacking it's cap, like it was said earlier if their using cruise it's easier... torps freaking hurt when your in nos range.
What I fear when in my raven has to be a nos-domi, **** load of nos and t2 heavy drones.
Highs=nos and as many as possible mediums=scrambler/web/ecm stuff lows= armour tank and drones do the killing

A Raven is a very difficult ship to jam, your best bet isn't going to be close range fighting.
The best thing to take out a Raven would be a high DPS med-long range ship with two or 3 T2 Sensor damps.
Or you could got with an Apoc and a rack of Large SB's, T2 Caldari Jammers, and a good armor tank/battery setup. If you space the SB's right you'll knock out most of the missiles while maintaining a relatively effective rate of damage. Nos Domi's are okay but most good Raven pilots carry drones and FoF's, and a SB in the hi's. It'll take awhile but the SB will kill the Domi's drones before a well-tanked Raven will die. And even then, locking the drones and letting 'em have it with missiles doesn't hurt. Despite their added toughness T2 Heavy Drones will die to a sustained Torp volley before they can really hurt a Raven.
A Raven will probably have a solid minute of engagement time before 5 T2 Heavies can kill him off without a shield tank. And in that time a Torp Raven can target (10 secs~) and fire off 5 volleys of torpedoes + Smartbomb, that's enough to kill two or three T2 Heavy drones and extend your combat time. The problem with the Domi is that the Drones are its only true offensive capability, neutralize them and all it can do is just sit there with a confused look on its face. If the Domi doesn't jam the Raven right off the bat, (Which is a 1 in 4 chance from a Scorpion, I've had plenty of fights with a friendly Raven to know, and if he's got backup sensors you'll likely never jam him.) Then the Raven can launch his drones against the Domi's and methodically kill off the drones with his torps or CM's and then turn that firepower on the Domi. (I've gotten caught in a web with a fleet fitted Scorp and was able to keep the ship jammed for four complete cycles but I couldn't hurt the drones, I was fitted for extreme long range with 425's instead of CMs. Fleet fitted scorps have no tank whatsoever, so a tanked Raven, even with a Nos Domi will have at least 20 seconds of solid tanking before the cap dies.)
If I really wanted to kill a Raven solo, I'd go with a 'Geddon at Medium/Long Range with T2 Sensor damps, knock out his ability to lock me and just pulverize him. Stay out of drone range and with 3 T2 Sensor Damps you can effectively remove a Raven from combat. And with a T2 Fitted 'Geddon he'll be dead in less than 2 minutes.

Kill a raven with a geddon...!? most ravens i come across dont double em rank, if they have a cap booster they cant have a decent tank and have a warp scrambler so warp off if he gives u much grief.

Dominix is the most reliable, simply because non-ECM Ravens die slowly and ECM Ravens die/warpout rather quickly to drones. Other than that, any shortrange BS starting at 30km or less will work - with the caveat that the ewar heavy ones are likelier to force you out with a few lucky cycles.
Other than that though, even a permajammed MegaT with T2 heavies will force it out in a pure 1v1. Anyways, ECM Ravens don't have enough tank to hold off even 4 T2 Ogres and fully tanked Ravens don't have scramblers. Faction tanks will rock your world, but other than that most shortrange BS can live through the experience.

Thermal ftw. A typical raven tank includes 2 invulnerability fields and a photon scattering field (or replace the photon scattering field with a warp scrambler). This puts everything but thermal at around 70% or higher if the modules are tech II. Thermal is around 60%, making it the weakest resist. -Wrayeth

I've found when I'm flying a raven, my two biggest peeves are an ECM / Nosdomi and a gankageddon. EM + Thermal is gonna be nasty, and ECM / Nos will give a torp raven a hard time (less so a cruise raven due to FOFs)

Any type of NOS ship is required to take out a raven tank. Gallente are ideal for drones and blasters, since NOS is (relativly) close range.

In my experience, there is nothing that comes close to power of Dominix fitted for Nos+Neut, 3 jammers, heavy cap injector, and double LAR all tank low slots.
I used to get frustrated trying to kill Ravens in my blaster mega, but this this dominix setup, it's very easy.

Are you suggesting a Rage Torp Raven will fight solo, target paint you well, and hold you down so you don't go base speed, nerfing the damage that will already be kinda ****ty?
And that they'll have no problems using cap boosters even faster since they'll have 0 cap recharge?
A Torp Raven won't use Javelins against another BS, since with few exceptions, they're already hitting you full-force.

The fact that almost all recommendations are the domi, an overpowered ship that abuses the two currently most broken means in the game (nos & ECM) which are also both - as far as I know - about to get nerfed says a lot about how good the Raven is. But then again we all already knew that. ---

Ofcourse people are going to recommend a domi, it's the I-win ship. But the raven will still have buttloads of trouble against gankageddons and blasterthrons and even the recently decent Typhoon. - - - - - - I have no strong feelings one way or the other... |

Meh, cap inected nos domi can do it without jammers.
I've killed a t2 torp/ cruise raven like that. I wasnt even in nos range for the first minute or so of the fight.
A gank megat or geddon shouldnt have too much trouble barring ew.

Then again I couldn't hold it down, and outside of optimal I'm not going to touch him. Generally I see ravens 100KM of the gate, and I don't see them alone.

If you want to kill a raven, use a Scorpion.
Setup (not tested, but something like this)
Hi: 4 x Siegelaunchers, 2 x Heavy neuts Med's: Sensor booster, 2 x 20k scramblers 5 x Racial ECM's Low's Whatever you need to fit the rest + maybe a light armortank or something...
And a full rack of drones...
Alternative: Another Raven... (siegelaunchers and Neuts + ECM would propably do the trick...)

The main reason I believe no one has come up with the scorp idea is because the Raven is likely going to tank your damage as long as he has cap booster charges, and call his mates to come gank you from 10 jumps away lol

Yea, well... That statement could apply for all ships and all setups. There's just no way you can gank a Raven with one ship, in such a short time that help in closeby systems won't have time to get there...
Oh, and I would love to hear your suggestion for a setup... kthxbye!

7x Electron II with VOID ammo 5x Berserker I or Praetor I 3x DMG Mod II
-> ~1k DPS unhardened
Ravens are only a problem to me if ...
1. I start farer away than 30km and he is 100% tank fitted 2. He has ECM fitted. You cant kill something you cant see. But you can counter this by using ECM Drones. They are effectiv in most fights even you cant rely on them work every time.
In first case you can warp away, because he has no scrambler. In the second case you will be toast iam sorry. If he dont have a crazy tank fitted, because he needs an injector or scrambler, then he wont be able to tank the dmg i send him.
Without T2 guns, Ammo and high skills they are a problem i have to admit. _________________________ Iam back

1. cap, you run out of cap with neuts and jammers going quite fast
2. damage, a tanked raven will tank you as log as hif cap charges last, the siege launcher will have like 15 seconds ROF with good skills

A SOLO Raven, i.e. one with its own tackle kit, cant use Rage torps, and loses at least 1 slot of its tank.
With only a 5 slot tank and tech1 ammo they really arent that scary.
Any close range bs should be capable of handling it, Blasterthron especially with neutron 2's.
OFC if its just using 5 ECM you may have problems, but as stated, thats not gonna be an issue for much longer.

I have found a geddon with mega pulse 2's and bs level 5 conflag ammo, cap booster with a passive tank 1 LAR 2 and 3 heat sink 2's to be quite effective in the past.
Must use those drones, tech 2 heavies using kinetic damage seem to work well.

Dominix is imbalanced due to Nos and ECM, both of which have their fair share of nerf it threads. Raven's imbalance is more about the ship itself, not any cookiecutter setup.
And saying that Raven is imbalanced makes the case no less so for the Domi. But this thread is about Raven, and I find recommending a soonÖ-to-be-nerfed ship commonly acknowledged as overpowered not contributing to the discussion much.

Mid: scrambler (domi scrambler is perfect, 7.5km is fine in most cases too), webber, 2-3 ecm (1-2 bz5- or similar caldari and 1 hypnos multi), 0-1 sensor damp.
Low: insert a nice tank here (no need to tell all ppl how)
Tactic: 1. approach cloaked 2. when too close you uncloak and target, make sure you hit the raven if it was aligned to kick it out of alignment. 3. ECM/damp/NOS/neut/web/scramble that birdie 4. orbit Raven at 1200-2500 m 5. get ya drones out and tell em to kill dat Raven 6. Raven laughs at pitiful damage 7. Raven pukes when he sees 0 cap 8. dead Raven
That easy
THen you realize raven had like 3 t2 extenders and javelins are doing some sick amount of damage to your little ship while you are also painted from drones and die in 15s what makes 3 volleys. --------------------- WTS talisman omega |

Sounds perfect. You are invited to a duel with your Raven. How much ya bet on your win with your extended javelin Raven ;) ?
PS (added - edit): of course you are not a forum warrior and gladly prove your point, dont ya

Megathron and Dominix are your answer.
Megathron with a blasterthron setup that is setup like this: 7 electrons mwd 1 scrambler 1 target painter 1 cap booster double repper and 3x armor hardener and damage control and cap relay. And ofc ogre t2's help much out.
You will outdamage and outtank the raven when you learn the tactics with a blasterthron.
With a dominix however you simply fit nos and tank. Drones do the **** :) simple. Outtanking and bleeding the raven to death.
My experience.

Why? Holler me to loose a Raven if you like to :P Actually most Pilgrim/Curse pilots will show ya.
Curious how you kill a raven with a pilgrim solo?*

If the raven gets even 2 or 3 volleys of Javelin on you you're toast.
Simple as that.
Your idea relies on a solid jam, doesn't happen.
Even with no cap the ravens gonna burn your pilgrim before its drones finish it off.

And you're asking for a 1v1 against a Raven setup solely for the purpose!?
Damage control, ECCM fitted with a single amarr racial. As soon as your jam cycle fails you're boned. The only slight problem would be the damps.
Best start npc'ing now if you're really gonna take him up on it.

I tested a AC Tempest against one of my mates skilled at flying ravens
High 6x650mm's 2xheavy dim nos's med: mostly fubar since Im fittet to take out frigs and cruisers (web, scrambler, dual sensor booster and cap recharger II low: large and med armor rep and 2 exp, 1 kin and 1 thermal hardener
This setup made an even fight where we both ran out of cap at the same time.. ________________________________________________ FORMER!!! I said FORMER Pirate...

Ravens have fofs and drones too. Once you lose your 5 drones you are boned. With your approach any ship that can fit 3 jammer and a bit of nos will always kill a raven. Why doesn't that happen???

ok none stops you from having a white wash again. Just for you my offer:
1. I bring a Pilgrim in any setup I choose 2. You bring a Raven in any setup you choose 3. We pay our isk to someone neutral - a referee. 4. we meet in a system alone for the fight with maybe only the referee present 5. Both only use what they got aboard. 6. A loss as potential outcome is obvious (be it surrender or destruction of a ship/pod). Draw happens if one flees to safety (or both agree on a draw). Win is obvious too like a loss.
I bet 50 mill isk at a 1:4 ratio. 1 point for that helpless small Pilgrim, 4 for that great powerful welsh wizard Raven.
Meaning: If you have your white wash I owe ya 50 mill isk. You owe me 200 mill if ya dun have a "white wash" .

My T2 Hammerheads really give those heavy drones a hard time... some T2 warriors to deal with pesky warp-scrambler inties...
Problem is that you will almost never run across a 1v1 battle... a mega or a vagabond should be interesting, but hes 1863679 friends jumps in before you can target the sucker....

Just want to give in my 2 cents - the Blastarte performs usually much better than the Gankathron (did a fight against a Vindicator and lost my shields when he lost his armor).

If you go for a Blasterthron make sure you have tech II turrets and Void L. If you come across a gank/tank torpedo Raven (isn't really a solo setup, but you may encounter it) it's the only way you can break the tank before going down yourself.
ECM'ing NOS-domi is of course the easier route, but doing it in a 'thron is so much more stylish

Huh... can i bring ishtar so you have slight problems fitting full rack of jammers and win? Or can i fit some wcs to simulate TQ combat? And can i warp in at 100km and laugh at you warping out or cloaking? Agreed fights with ecm allowed are retarded, sorry.
Pilgrim is nice and ok, but it doesn't really works that well apart from killng npcer or 2 in belt. It cannot work much better than ishtar and those sucks in gangs. --------------------- WTS talisman omega |
