DTbile in French is the same, or can also mean "crazy".

Jeez, this is not about someone's nick sounding slightly naughty in another language. It's about people who call themselves horrid things in russian, fully knowing that the GM's won't pick up on it.
If I had kids... and was Russian, I'd rather not want them playing a game where people called themselves "***** master spunk slinger" (wonder if the PC filter caught that).

IMO EVE isn't a kids' type of game; it's also not for those who get offended by a few expletives.

Bah... words only have the power that WE give them.
They're just words and shouldn't be offensive at all... again... unless you ALLOW them to be.
Example... if I tell you that in Spanish the words " mi tio" mean "F*** YOU !!" then you're likely to get offended everytime I say it to you, have it in my name, use it in my sig, etc. etc.
You'll get all indignant, petition me, get angry with me, etc.
Then I'll come back at you and tell you that "mi tio" means "my uncle" in Spanish... now when I use it, when I say "mi tio" to you... are you offended? Most likely not.
The words haven't changed... so what has? Why aren't they offensive anymore? Why were they offensive before?
Because YOU gave them the power to be offensive. Because you ALLOWED them to be offensive.
So, quit giving words that power and you'll go through life with much lower blood pressure :)
Words only have the power that we allow them to have... so don't allow them to have any power over you... it's really that simple.

Thread cleaned, and let's not turn it into a discussion about what various swear-words does mean. Also, please do not discuss moderation on the forums. If you have any questions, feel free to mail us on [email protected] as always. To clarify; you may discuss if non-english obscene words should be allowed or not, but you may not A) use another language than english on the forums, and you may B) not break the forum-rules and evade the profanity-filter (even if you are translating some system-name that means something nasty in Swedish).
And of course, if you are offended by a character, corporation or alliance name, please feel free to petition it with the reason.

I reckon the GMs should address the reported user in the language that the offending word is in, to determine if the name was choosen knowing full well the meaning of it. Probably shouldnt really matter though - if the name is offensive in a different language, its offensive to someone, and hence should be changed.
Ive a hunter in Wow with the name 'Thoin', which means something funny in Irish (its usually preceded by 'p=g ma') - good thing Irish people dont offend easily though

who gives a toss really??? if your older than 10 in the UK you've heard just about every obsenity under the sun in the play ground (this process was accelerated by the f**cking chav culture) and im sure the same if even roughly applies to america and every other country in the world. they've all heard it before, we'll all hear them again so STFU!

Although I understand the need for the existance of anty-profanity rules in the current environment, as parents might be appauled at seing profanity in their children's game, and lawsuits might ensue as many countries make it against the law to expose children to profanities...
... and fully aware that this is going a bit off-topic, I am honestly interested in whether anyone has good arguments against exposing children to profanity other than "it's against the law". Some scientific studies of the effect of profanity exposure on children would be perfect, but I would also settle for some well-thought out arguments.
Why is profanity wrong?
This is not a jab at ccp or a discussion of forum moderation. Profanity needs to be absent brom both the game and the forums, this is unquestionable.

This may have already been covered, as I only read the first page, but:
This game is played in English. Rules of other languages don't matter. Furthermore, boo-f***ing-hoo.
When Serenity is released, they will probably be subject to Chinese grammatical rules, and should not be penalized for words in English considered offensive, or any other language, for that matter.
