Mouse over the compass itself and there should pop up a tooltip where you can filter the different types of brackets available

Awesome!
Will it may not seem like much the compass view brings me back the days of Elite and its little compass thingy in the cockpit. It also makes me feel that warping in a system is part of a 3D world without having to resort to moving my camera around and look at celestials.
My corp mates mock me for wanting "immersion", but this is what brings it close for me! GJ! :) |

CCP Frellicus wrote:Lil' Brudder Too wrote:Except, locations that are all buried within folders absolutely SUCK to navigate quickly with the right click menu in space. The right click menu in empty space is not changing. When you interact with the bracket via right click or the radial context menu then you immediately get the options for that location directly regardless of folder, provided you haven't hidden it. If you intend to rely on the right click empty space location list for access you are not really using this feature anyway. I'm not asking for the in-space right click menu to change. I'm just pointing out that your solution to all the clutter of every bookmark being "well put them in folders" is less than ideal.
I'm asking why i have to be forced into putting all my bookmarks into folders in order to have even a small amount of functionality/usability when there are clusters of celestial objects which also have corp/personal BM's around them.
As there are still many bookmarks that i don't want to have to manually find in space (then dodge around every other nearby BM to get to the one i desire) before i'd have to warp to them, that i also don't want to have to trip and stumble my way through right-click folders to get to.
What i hear in your response is this:
"If you click on them in-space, you have instant access...but if you are put off by the mass clusters of bookmarks, or using folders to turn groups of them on/off, then I'm not interested in your feedback."
Your solution to my issue is that instead of having to trip/stumble through right click menu sub-folders in space is to instead have everything in folders...which i then have to turn on/off for each specific circumstance i find myself in...or have a massive "places" window open so i can do massive amounts of scrolling to get to each BM i need access to at that particular moment. Or, leave them as is, look around in space multiple directions frequently and play 'mouse-boxing' with the massive list of bookmarks that pops up once the mouse gets near them. (and hope i don't need to click on a celestial that is behind said list) These are not ideal solutions. imho.
I really like this feature, and will use it gladly in systems that don't have a lot of BM's. However, it seems you guys did not thoroughly think through how this would work with lots of bookmarks in clusters. This is just how it seems from the product you have deployed and your responses to our feedback . |

Been playing around with it on Sisi, really like the feature so far! To quote someone in my corp, "we finally have space-north!"
I noticed though, you can't use the keyboard shortcuts for align, warp, etc. for bookmarks in space, you have to go through the context menu to do those. Could we get support for keyboard shortcuts for the bookmarks in space? |

Cool changes. Just 3 suggestions:
1) If sensor overlay is disabled, please remove that transparent circle from around the center panel. Looks meh. 2) If sensor overlay is disabled, please remove the square icons from appearing in space upon undock, gate jump, etc. 3) Adding these things as an option in the OVERVIEW would also be a huge plus, especially bookmarks. Hey guys. |

Really awesome change. Thanks CCP!
One additional request (maybe for kind consideration for the future ) would be a way to select any of these new sensor overlay icons in space. This could be as simple as using a left mouse click on the icon in space perhaps. And then have hotkeys work on them.
For example : Select overlay item in space (say for a bookmark) + A = Align to it Select overlay item in space (say for a bookmark) + S = Warp to it
Similar to how you can click on items in your overview to select and have these shortcuts work. That would be really useful imo.

It would be nice to have some kind of border around the compass thing. At the moment it has just a hard edge and doesn't look very nice. Another thing I would like to see is to have different levels for different kinds of markers. Like player made (bookmarks) markers on the inner side and game made markers on the outter side, inside that compass. I made a mokup to show what i mean At the moment, overlapping markers generate very irritating colour variations. It would also be very nice to have space north visible in the solar system map so I can look for something in the map and actually know in what direction I have to turn/rotate the camera to look at it. And please remove the settings popup from that compass. It is really annoying. Maybe move it the the settings south-east of the hud circle. -Æ-ï-¦-+-Ç-ï! -Æ-ï-¦-+-Ç-ï! -Ü-¦-+-¦-+-¦-¦-é-ï - -+-+-¦-+-Ç-ï! | -ô-¦-+-¦-+-¦-¦-+-¦ |

Being the one who is trying to keep my BM names consistent and clean, the ability to edit locations from the right click and radial menus is totally a WIN. Thanks alot for this fix, been waiting it for years. This opens a good use to add wormhole destinations there, currently it's very inaccessible to be really useful.
Bookmarks to overview is a great proposal and something to consider adding in the future. Add anomalies to overview, those are warpable and can be seen by everyone.
Add number of anomalies and signatures to the system info at top left. Sometimes I'm ending to open a scanner window to only know if some are there.

I tried it on Sisi and really liked it. However, it is noticeably 2D and that means that I have to constantly pan my view up and down to find anything not on the ecliptic. It would be really, really, helpful to have the compass somehow indicate things in 3D. |

Seems to me this game is quickly getting really top heavy with UI visual effects.
Along with what's already been recently added to the game, is all this new shinny stuff gonna change the basic PC requirements to play this game?
I sure would hate to have everything active and then have to deal with lag or worse, the blue screen of death. I bought a new PC a few years ago when CCP released the new minimum requirements needed to play this game.
I simply can't afford to constantly upgrade or buy another computer every year just to play this game due to having all sorts of shinny eye-candy stuff constantly being added..

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, we're still working hard to incorporate feedback and fix issues found through continuing internal and public testing. I just wanted to drop in here and let everyone know what changes we've made, along with giving a list of currently known issues.
Changes:
- The Compass now also takes into account the vertical position of the camera, indicating the relative height of anomalies by moving the each locations colored line above and below a central line in the compass. (We highly encourage you to try this for yourself on Singularity)
Fixed Problems:
- 'Warp to 0' and 'Warp to X' radial menu options should now work with all mission, personal, and corporate location types (Where applicable) - The Sensor Overlay will now default to on initially, but then remember your settings for any future log ins - Show info on all Sensor Overlay locations should now work as expected. - Accepting or completing a mission from an agent in space should now add or remove the locations from the Sensor Overlay - The bracket lists should now work successfully whether in compact mode or not. - Fixed an issue which would cause Overlay brackets to not be removed from space in certain circumstances.
Known Issues:
- Bracket lists are not including non sensor Overlay items. - Adding a personal or corp location with locations disabled in Sensor overlay still shows location in space. - Approach option is not available in the radial menu for certain location types. - Sensor overlay location names & distances are obscured when names are too long.
That's all for now, please continue to provide feedback in this thread, and report any issues you find through our bug reporting system.

This works quite nicely, though I feel like it could use something more to make it clearer. My first thought is changing the size of the markers the closer to the central line they are, but I'm not sure.
I found another bug: when you get close to an overlay location, the direction on the compass becomes wildly inaccurate, even fixing at directly right on the HUD when you're close enough (on grid and within a few km). I'm guessing this is grid related as it seems to only change at certain distances. {EBR-25460} |

(We highly encourage you to try this for yourself on Singularity) I too find it quite blury. The points are very small and the blury line (up/down) makes it even harder to see it clearly. Furthermore it is still very confusing if more points are nearby. How about using bigger, but different icons for different types. I made a mokup to make it more clear (note: It's scaled up by ~225%) This way you could even use different layers and show e.g. bookmarks always on top or something like that. |

The settings menu like the new notification movement function is not very clear to new players and is not consistent with the rest of the game. I would add both to the HUDs setting menu and add the option to have the key appear above the hud for a while until it is turned off.
On/off check for the in space icons in the current menu needs better verbiage so people no exactly what it does.
The new where is it functionality is good but requires a lot of focus because of the fuzziness.

Just a few bits on the compass overlay popup:
1. With some people playing at lower resolutions\smaller windowed modes, I think the overlay is too tall/covers up too much space in the capacitor area. The text area for warping/aligning/approacing/etc is also being (partially) obstructed by the popup, and IMO is one of the most important texts that should be always readable (what your ship is doing at the moment.) Maybe make the popup shorter and wider, into 3 columns wide, or into a two rows strip.
2. I feel that the mouseover area of the compass is a bit on the thin side sometimes. I would strongly suggest incorporating the whole 'popup' into a full fledged button, maybe a side button to the Tactical View mode or another sub command in the Capacitor options menu.

I think the new height indication works ok. But I found myself wanting to just pan the camera up and down to find sigs rather than try to read the elevation from the compass. It seems like its faster to just pan the camera. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to reading the compass over time.
I actually tried making a mockup of an elevation indicator after Sjaandi HyShan's post requesting the feature. The idea was that the pings on the compass would radiate upwards, but only when you are looking in that direction. They would sort of fade in. No need for a downwards indicator really... because if you see pings on the top of your compass yet don't see any icons in space in front of you and the pings aren't reaching upwards, then you can deduce they must be downwards. Might be cleaner, faster, and easier to read than what is on Sisi now. Or not. I dunno.
And yeah, I got a little carried away and changed a few other UI elements... I wish the EVE UI was that efficient. :(

I been on the test server and just wanted to share some thougths. Why change the anomoly colours? Having them green worked nicly. now its more painful to distinkt anom from sig. I would also love if you tweaked how bookmarks behave when you have a cluster With many types of sigs/anoms/planets ships etc and you hoover over them. I'd like to jump in, align to a cluster of stuff, and as easily as possible find that bm/item and Warp to it. Not just see that there are a bookmark in that direction. :) But all in all, it looks great :) |

I've seen the current iteration of Sisi and it looks like you guys went for the 2 column overlay popup, and the mouseover area seems thicker now :)
One last suggestion for it: make it up towards the capacitor area, not towards the center of the screen. This should address the concern that the text over the capacitor (warping, aligning, approaching, orbiting text area) is not obstructed. Or is the design leaning more on not obstructing the healthbars/overheat/capacitor? |

New SiSi patch....still takes forever before you can interact with the bookmarks...and that stupid static noise for the bookmarks is still there...seriously, whats the reasoning behind it? It can't be so we can differentiate different bookmarks audibly...because that would be the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

I have been checking out bookmarks in space on the test server. I absolutely love these changes for the ease and depth that it adds to the game. I am a little concerned with the noise that hovering over a book mark makes. If your actually on the bookmark with your mouse it makes a noise, that is not unpleasant but at the same time unnecessary. However if you move slightly off of the bookmark it produces an awful static like noise that is very distracting at the very least. It would be great if these two noises were removed or there was an option somewhere to turn them off. |

I like the use of elements from the Vegas 2013 UI note (couldn't watch the 2014 one - did they make a new mockup wiith those elements?). The left side looky pretty nifty. The neocom bar is ... I dunno. It just doesn't fit the "borderless" style of the other things on the left, being broken up by the compass that does fit even less doesn't help either I recon. The right is making me possitively sick though. Are these supposed to be multiple instances of opened "overview" ? That would be ok and actually quite handy.
The icons above the drones - kind of useless IMO. The Sh/Ar/St is nicely done. I thought it would be cool if it used the same as locked targets and the own ship but I recon you'd need some insane screensize to actually see something then.
Local chat dissociated from local list... eh well i guess noone really uses local chat besides Amarr and Jita so that wouldn't be to much of a problem. However a different behaviour for that than for other chat channels is quite odd and adds unnecessary exceptions I think.
Would go better with Noriko Mais Compass Mockup as well - clear visible lines, no shading and smooth fades and all that unnecessary stuff. I can go outside for smooth roundings and nice shadings... |
