Edited by: elFarto on 04/09/2006 19:22:34 Hi
So I've decided to release it.
My Showroom application. It lets you view all of the playable ships from Eve.
It's in no way finished, it's missing any sort of overlay for what ship your currently looking at, and some models still don't look right (orange megathron anyone?). Also there is quite possibly a memory leak in it, but I'll be damned if I can find it, I think it's in glib.
Keys for using are: N/M - Zoom in/out ,/. - Prev/Next model (they could take a while to load) Arrow keys - spin model around Enter - toggles the auto-spinning
It is writting using OpenGL 2.0.

Edited by: zeeZ Exus on 05/09/2006 22:14:34 Is it only me or does it crash after hitting "," (prev) after loading the first ship and a few ships after the amarr titan? Some of the lights are a bit off, but always either to the front or back.
It's a cool tool though, keep working on it (or I'll hunt you down with my Ibis )

Hmm, that's very odd. Normally a crash when changing models is due to it not finding the model (ie, running against an old version of Eve).
Could you post a screenshot of the console window and the error? Also which graphics card do you have?

Hi, just found this application, and love it. :D
Only problem is that the ships have no textures. :(
Anybody have a solution to this problem?

I don't want to post all the stuffs here, but you could eve-mail me some adress and I'll send you all the output and the logfile my friend Dr. Watson hands me after saying "showroom.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." It crashes while doing all the stuffs after saying "Loading Ship: Nidhoggur" I've got a GeForce 6800 GT, win2k and EVE version 2.13.4561 and the version of your showroom I downloaded a few hours before I made the post :)

Email it to me, my email address is very easy to guess (hint, it ends in elfarto.com ). Can you also include the version of your graphic's driver.
What's even odder, is you have the same setup as me a GeForce 6800GT and win2k.

Not sure what that screenshot is suppose to show, apart from a few warning from the GLSL compilier which look harmless.
Originally by: Grez Pressing , when Showcase first loads causes it to crash.
I'll take a look into this.
Originally by: Grez Lights aren't properly aligned. http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/193/lightszs6.jpg
This is an unfortunate problem I'm not sure If I can fix. You see these lights have an attribute called 'transformBase', which is just a number. I'm not entirely sure what it's ment to mean (any help CCP?).
Originally by: Grez Would be nice to get some AA in there to smooth it out. Not to mention a choice of backgrounds. Nice program though!
Unfortunally GLFW, which I use to handle all the windowing/input stuff, doesn't support creating a AA'ed OpenGL windows.

Edited by: Astrixx on 02/10/2006 10:35:38 Edited by: Astrixx on 02/10/2006 10:32:51 Why do you render it in OpenGL? Wouldn't it be easier just to use d3d since that's the rendering mode EVE uses? Or is it that the models don't necessarily load better in either rendering mode? I guess gl makes it cross-platform compatible too, but I just find d3d prettier in any case :P

I like OpenGL and I don't like DirectX, plus I got to write a .blue file to OpenGL shader compiler.
Originally by: Lady Loom btw, anyone else having the models show mirror-inverted or is this a general "feature" [)
It's a feature. One of the main differences is one of the axis is the other way round. Now flipping the model round is easy, it's all the rotations and matricies that need to be flipped, and I'm not that clever .

Hey, nice to see you're still working on it
What happened to the thing that asked you where the files are? It just starts up with
Quote: initialising stuff files...done (0 files) Loading Texture: res:/Texture/Nebula/g05_cube.dds ======================================================================= Loading Ship: Bantam parsing blue file: res:/Model/Ship/Caldari/CF1/cf1.blue error opening blue file: res:/Model/Ship/Caldari/CF1/cf1.blue **** Unable to load Bantam ****
and then does... nothing (no stuffs)
Btw, the application in your 1.2 zip reads "Showroom v1.1"

Autozoom would be a nice feature, so always when you switch to a much bigger/smaller ship you zoom to a position where you see everything from that ship.

This is a tricky one. I believe it does some funky stuff with the light texture involving blending with different mipmap levels of itself. Need to look into it a bit more.

I've had a look at v1.5, and it's great fun, although it was a while before I twigged about the old m/n zoom keys being disabled
For those of us who aren't so well acquainted with the game, is there some way that you could display the name of the ship on screen, or any other information people might find interesting?
I know, it would be a lot of work, but even just the names would be great to have. ---------- Racer in the ISGC Frigate League |
