Got the same issue here. Had it since incarna, but usually only during situations with several hundred people on grid. Now it happens whenever I alt-tab, or even just from session timers. Really hope this can be resolved soon, seeing as it completely breaks the game.
Like the rest of us, I'm using windows XP sp3 32 bit.
also got itel core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz Nvidia GTX 460 3.25 usuable gigs of ddr3 ram

It DOES do it in windowed mode as well, just NOT as much. what it does do more often in WINDOWED mode is, its causes the windows [more often the chat box] disappear and all the tabs turn different colors. but it the windows still vanish in windows mode, just not as often |

The fix on Duality didnt help, im still able to reproduce the problem while dual logged and fullscreen. Its just difficult to reproduce because you just dont have your usual stuff to do there.

Sometimes it just happens. Wherever You Went - Here You Are |

I'm having the same issue with the UI and it is making the game unplayable (especially in nullsec). I've resubscribed to Eve after about a year and never experienced an issue like this before.
All windows in eve are suddenly disappearing. After the disappearance on the screen the only part of the UI that remains intact is my circular shield/armour HUD indicator and its respective icons. The screen also darkens when I press the esc key but no menu or window is present.
This issue seems to sometimes have a relation to my input in the interface, such as passing my mouse pointer over a link or an option in the right-click drop down menu. Sometimes the disappearances occur when I double click on the top section of a window. When I try to minimise a window or press the icon that toggles window transparency, again, a full disappearence of all windows occurs. The issue also occurs randomly, seemingly when I've put in no input.
I am using a windows XP 32 bit operating system. Nvidia GeForce 1024 MB GTX 285 AMD Phenom II X4 940 Processor 3070MB RAM Direct X 10.0 |

I've sent in bug reports on both my characters about this. It happens so often I literally cannot play. This happened right after incarna was deployed, but then it stopped, and it popped back up on sisi a few weeks before crucible hit TQ but my bug report was ignored. I just hope they fix it soon so i can play...
All my drivers are up to date, and my directx is up to date.
OS: 5.1, build: 2600, Service Pack 3 Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (Driver: 6.14.12.6658) CPU: x86 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5, GenuineIntel @ 3.50 GHz (4 CPUs) Memory: 2229 MB (881 MB in use) Character: Kitari six , Solar System: Nakah
Windows XP
Its not an overheating issue like I first thought because it happens 75% of the time when you tab back into the game.
One way to fix it is to tab all your windows to minimized and then reopen them until it happens again, then tab back down and open all the windows except the problematic one. |

I have to say this..
These issues should be priority 1 , or an announcement of changed system requirements (not supporting Win XP) should be in order.
Like others have said in this thread, this started about the same time as the "shader update" and have since escalated to being almost unplayable now. I was late filing my first bug report on this beacuse, like I wrote in the report, I though that this must be known and already worked on.
This is assuming that this has to do with us experiencing this are running Windows XP. CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 -áGÇó-á Nyio -áGÇó-á Grenade? |

Disappearing windows still happens (with Alt-Tab) BUT their persistence seems to be less fatal. Where previously you had no choice but to kill the client, now you can just do multiple Alt-Tab to attempt to fix it.
One other issue that's possibly related is the intermittent game freezes (lasting from 5-20secs) which happens just about anywhere you go. FPS drops to almost zero during these events. In some cases, if freeze time > 1min, the system crashes with BSOD nv4 display driver not responding/or looping.
Frequency for that has increased since the Crucible patch, but it was first seen with Incarna (which didn't really warrant raising the issue).
Have anyone else encountered these freezing episodes? |

CCP this needs to be priority 1. I can't even play the game at a time when I want to try all the new features. I also have a plex I need to buy in a week and a half and I haven't been able to rat since patch day. This is a very serious issue. |

True, There goes my gametime, Risky to play in nullsec, in case UI may be unusable after any gatejump.

I have found that if you operate in windowed mode the problem doesn't arise - well at least that's what I have found after two hours playing in windowed mode this evening. It might be a work around until CCP finds the problem. |

I am mistaken on one issue - the ship not floating or spinning in the hangar - this happens when "load station environment" is unchecked. Thanks, Shpenat, for pointing this out to me. Now if we can just get the UI & windows to stay put..... |

Yes. I cant afford to go into nulsec. When this bug hits at a gate you are helpless. Tooling around highsec for a couple of days wasnt bad, but now its just me stuck with nothing to do.

the issue even happens when alt tabbing out of the game, with out a single client running.
If you hit tab twice, the windows appear but minimized, you can double click on them to maximize them, but then the ui eventually disappears and you have to alt tab out again to reset it. |

Ok slightly diffrent report of similar issues here.
First experienced GUI loss using 'EVE launcher' to run 4 clients.
After starting clients manually and 'windows' keying back to desktop to change clients the GUI problem seemed resolved.
BUT the clients run like snails. Even with graphics turned to mininum I suffer horendous control lag and dire FPS.
According to Task manager my processor isn't overtaxed though my commit charge looks unusually high.
Conclusion is I'd imagine the problem is some sort of memory problem running the new graphics under DX 9 |

First of all, thank you very much Mahon.
Second, Confirming this is a workaround. Problem is while in fullscreen mode. Single client though, don't want to push it.

Windows XP user here as well confirming the same problem with disappearing UIs. I made another post about this problem as well.
I've tried running the repair tool, defragging and just about everything I can think of short of completely uninstalling the client and reloading it (and I am not sure that would even fix the problem.)

Didn't read the whole trade, but a corpmate had that problem, also on XP.
I told him to change Full Screen by Fixed Window (with the same resolution).
Since then, he didn't have the problem again.

An additional thought may be an under-the-hood rendering of many, many ui elements exhausting resources. I keep my people and places open 100% of the time and have hundreds of bookmarks on each character. I frequently open my notepad and have many notes, a good handful of which are at max length. I keep at least 7 chat channels open all docked into the same window. Local is pulled out into a seperate window. Cargo is frequently open as well as the dscanner. Make sure the QA team is using multiple clients that are heavily loaded like this.
A misnomer present in this thread is that "windows disappear". In reality it is ui elements that disappear, and its frequently the window frame itself (i don't know your architecture - just translating into a familiar paradigm). Sometimes its just some window backgrounds that don't render, other times its select line items in a list.
Blowing the cobwebs off of some old UI development/debugging experience eons ago, and watching the behavior of this issue, reminds me of and leads me to believe that you are silently suppressing resource allocation/rendering problems.
Hope this helps!! :D And I was going to report that ctrl-alt-w helps when this happens. All windows get minimized and your neocom returns, if it was lost. Then you can restore critical windows one by one such as your overview and/or people and places so you can warp to safety. But I saw someone mention tab-tab a bit earlier and i had forgotten that trick. I'll be trying that in addition to playing in windowed mode tonight.
Thank you all.
p.s. oh, but ctrl-alt-w causes you to lose all but your system chat channels - a bit of a pain to keep opening them back up. Is that normal? Should that be normal? |
