I'm playing on a ThinkPad T400 laptop and after the Crucible patch my windows (chats, overview, scanner, drones, everything) have started disappearing randomly, often after alt0tabbing and session change, sometimes out of the blue. Also, sometimes they just become blurred and messed up. Already lost a ship to this bug. |

Same, EVE is not playable in this state.
When I reported this on SISI, CCP seemed to think it was a bug on my end. So let's all report our system specs here.
CPU: Intel Q6600 GPU: Geforce GTX260 RAM: 4GB OS: Windows XP SP3
I'll even post some screenshots. The only edits are the red boxes. Two are from SISI, one is from TQ, but the bug and the build is identical on both servers.

Researching into this. I am trying to figure out what is going on here, but am requesting backup. Please, keep posting information. What you were doing at the time, what you had for breakfast. Seriously, anything small about your computer setup, let's see if we can find something that all of you have in common.
Will be monitoring this closely. (Oh and you don't have to go into detail on the breakfast. If you don't want to.) CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

Another XP machine here, and I was alt tabbing between full screen Eve on lowest graphic setting eve on a Nvidia 5900 18" TFT 1280 x 1040 resolution screen to youtube during undock black screen...
If you really must know I was restarting a Simple Minds "She's a River" video
Upon alt tabbing back I was undocked but when I right clicked attempting to warp to a bookmark all of my windows vanished and I was left with the cinema-style uninterrupted view. I could hear the options as I moved my mouse around though but decided it was best to redock which i had to do with mouse-over rosette in the end.
Great song though so it was worth it. |

Ok maybe im after something here. Right now on one of my clients the whole UI disappears half a second after the cursor changes from the crosshair to the classic windows one with the small white triangle. Like for example i move the curser over the undock link and my screen goes blank. Sounds weird but it like that right now. |

Im using Catalyst Version11.6 so not exactly the lastest version. Ill give it a try to update but im not expecting too much. Eve is collecting more and more XP related visual problems since allmost a year ago and none was fixed by a driver update (like the flickering on startup, pyschedelic colors on alt tab and so on). All the help i got when reporting those problems was that i was told to use windowed mode...

I'm having the same issues as discussed above. So far I have cleared the cache files several times and updated Nvidia drivers from 280.xx to 285.58 with no success. I've also tried different graphics settings, but the UI still disappears from time to time. Before todays downtime I was mostly able to successfully bring back the UI using the CTRL+ALT+ENTER hard refresh. Now (after dt) this doesn't seem to work anymore. Voodoooo!!!

I have been having the same issue, however it started before Crucible.
I am using an XP Machine as well.
Can't really pinpoint what causes it, but I could be in the middle of an email, and move my cursor, and have all the windows on the screen disappear and it just go to a blank image of space. I am able to click on all the functions within the game though, such as hitting escape makes the screen dim, so I know the window opens.
Clicking on random things is like playing minesweeper!
I was told to clear my cache but I have not done it yet as I wasn't happy it'd delete my overview settings.
I had submitted a ticket about this as well if thats something that would help your investigations. |

I'm getting an issue now on TQ that wasn't on SISI, I don't know if it's related to this one. The entire UI disappears completely and framerate drops to about 3 or 4 FPS. Every frame, the screen flickers. Anyone else getting this variation? |

The random window disappearance isn't really a Crucible issue per se. I've experienced it for Incarna as well - albeit at a much lesser frequency.
With the Crucible patch, the frequency that this happens is very debilitating. |

I am also seeing the screen flicker as well - if its not flickering, the entire UI Disappears except for the ship information in the bottom that lists the cap and mods.
I have been having screen flickering issues for quite some time as well - really noticeable when probing, also had a petition on about that, and they said to delete the cache files as well.

I loose all the windows when opening the cargo of the ship I happen to be flying, the only way to get them back is to close the cargo container or move the mouse randomly across screen. Once they appear again if I move the mouse back over the cargo window they all disappear. I have also had the screen go black and stay black while undocking. I logged out and back in and it remained that way for 2 more times.

same problem, but this bug seems to occur more if you alt tab with the other window not minimized, as i often am generally on a forum, or a social and or media site. and ive tested multiple times if i alt tab, or manually switch back to the eve client WITHOUT minimizing the other window, the client will generally appear with blank windows & will not always do this when the other window is minimized.
activating tactical over view corrects that problem "temporarily" but as soon as u turn it off or try and click on a window in game, the windows disappear again.

Like it was mentioned before, sometimes the whole ui disappears if I mouse over something (when it gets into that funky state of disappearing randomly)

I have experienced the same or similar problem.
Windows disappear, like chat or market window that was opened, but sometimes every window disappears so game looks like I disabled the UI with ctrl+f9, but game don't react to mouse command.
I can alt+tab, then switch back, and use esc key for settings window, after few times everything reappears and seems fine.
Then sometimes when I open character info, only image with portrait can be seen, and no other part of the info window.
Also sometimes garbage appears on the screen where windows should be, sometimes looking like white noise on tv screen. That too goes away with alt-tabbing and maybe calling settings with esc, then pressing esc again to return to the game.

I'm wondering if the issue I saw straight after the patch is related to this (although it seemed to be fixed for me last night, haven't tried it yet today). I bugreported it on Tuesday (ID 120111 if you're interested in more detail Paradox) but in a nutshell, what would happen is that although my UI/windows were fine, I was getting a massive fps drop every other time I alt-tabbed out to desktop. So log on, full fps, alt tab out and back in, fps drops to 27 or 28 (very consistently 27-28. Not 25, not 30, always that) alt-tab out and back in again, fps back to full. It was very strange.

Same as all above.
Windows XP; 9800GT; All Drivers Updated.
In-Game windows And UI disappear after undocking the second time from a station. Also, ship, all windows, and entire UI randomly just disappear leaving only empty space visible if in space; and, if in a station when it happens, none of the UI is visible or clickable. Also, the escape-menu window is also not visible during this problem. |

Adding to the pile. UI windows, and _only_ UI windows flicker, disappear, turn artifacted, and continue to do so each time a window is clicked on, either blindly or targeting specifically that. Only seems to happen *after* alt+tab has been made even once after the client's been fired up. Alttabbing provides a temporary aid too when it happens, but not every time.
It must be from the patching, as I took measures and looked through everything possible. Defragged all the files, cleared everything outside of EVE's client, cleared Cache in EVE, updated all the drivers I could, checked for outside interference from software and drivers... I think I even sacrificed a goat to the Blood God to see if that would've worked.
But no, persists as of yet.
Critical stats are an acceptable: Windows XP SP3 (32bit) AMD Athlon II X4 @ 3.00GHz 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz CL7 ASUS NVidia GeForce 460 1.6TB total HDD space
Drivers used on graphics were official 280.56 first and then 290.26BETA
So basic, same stuff as everyone else has reported. |

Nope. Looking at a potential fix right now, that's in testing. Many people still have reasons for using XP such as licenses or hardware.

Good to see you have a fix in the works already. Hopefully this fixes the screen flicker I see sometimes, especially when I am probing. Thats how this whole ordeal started.
And for future reference, is this the place to report these issues and see if we can get a fix? I submitted a ticket and after going back and fourth with the GM, the best thing we came up with was deleting my cache. Don't get me wrong, the GM was very helpful and was willing to work with me with the various DXDiags and such, but it ended up without a fix.
Seems like posting here to get your attention is quicker?

This has actually been happening to me randomly for quite some time (over many patches) and has to do with (my best guess) memory stress. The short story is to drop your graphics settings quite low and it'll get much better.
I run 2 clients all the time. WinXP, 2GB ram and a 512MB video card. It happened most frequently prior to installing the video card (was using integrated video - i5 cpu w/intel chipset/video). After installing the video card, nvidia 9800, i was able to increase my graphics settings quite a bit, but still nowhere near ideal.
The performance of the new crucible client was so much better than before that I tried to beef up the graphics settings a little bit again, and the problem is now way worse than it ever was. I'm still trying to find that sweet spot and I just hope that it exists. |

Just to let you know this is happening on Windows 7 as well but less frequently. Both myself XP and a friend Windows 7 64 bit have had this problem both of us run single clients. Sometimes an Alt- Tab fixes it sometimes a relog is required. Both of us have NVidia cards though.
I don't mind too much though as this Expansion rocks!

No that really doesn't work - Alt-Tab or mouse click's all the same. You can probably reduce the frequency/chance of it happening by simply not doing any alt-tabbing or not opening any of the ingame windows - which both are very diffficult to do.
Clearing cache is also a waste of time (and diskspace - since the old cache folder's just renamed to a backup).
The only other thing I noticed is when you run it during the quiet hours (around 0600-1200 EVE), it tends to be more stable (and faster). There's something going around in the background that's just jerking off the UI - freezing it intermittently sometimes. |

Here's the latests from the QA frontlines: Had the fix in the test lab last night and this morning, so far I cannot repro whatsoever on Windows XP. Alt-tabbing seems to be totally fine, with one or more clients. No UI disappearing or weird corruption on the windows. It was also part of a fix against some alt-tab crashes we were seeing reported on TQ, so if you sometimes crashed when alt-tabbing we hope we have resolved that too.
Again, the fix is on the Duality test server. If you can take part in tonight's mass test please do. Or just load up the client and try out alt-tabbing. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

I'm having the same issue with the UI and it is making the game unplayable (especially in nullsec). I've resubscribed to Eve after about a year and never experienced an issue like this before.
All windows in eve are suddenly disappearing. After the disappearance on the screen the only part of the UI that remains intact is my circular shield/armour HUD indicator and its respective icons. The screen also darkens when I press the esc key but no menu or window is present.
This issue seems to sometimes have a relation to my input in the interface, such as passing my mouse pointer over a link or an option in the right-click drop down menu. Sometimes the disappearances occur when I double click on the top section of a window. When I try to minimise a window or press the icon that toggles window transparency, again, a full disappearence of all windows occurs. The issue also occurs randomly, seemingly when I've put in no input.

Its not an overheating issue like I first thought because it happens 75% of the time when you tab back into the game.
One way to fix it is to tab all your windows to minimized and then reopen them until it happens again, then tab back down and open all the windows except the problematic one. |

I have to say this..
These issues should be priority 1 , or an announcement of changed system requirements (not supporting Win XP) should be in order.
Like others have said in this thread, this started about the same time as the "shader update" and have since escalated to being almost unplayable now. I was late filing my first bug report on this beacuse, like I wrote in the report, I though that this must be known and already worked on.
This is assuming that this has to do with us experiencing this are running Windows XP. CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 -áGÇó-á Nyio -áGÇó-á Grenade? |

Disappearing windows still happens (with Alt-Tab) BUT their persistence seems to be less fatal. Where previously you had no choice but to kill the client, now you can just do multiple Alt-Tab to attempt to fix it.
One other issue that's possibly related is the intermittent game freezes (lasting from 5-20secs) which happens just about anywhere you go. FPS drops to almost zero during these events. In some cases, if freeze time > 1min, the system crashes with BSOD nv4 display driver not responding/or looping.
Frequency for that has increased since the Crucible patch, but it was first seen with Incarna (which didn't really warrant raising the issue).
Have anyone else encountered these freezing episodes? |

Yes. I cant afford to go into nulsec. When this bug hits at a gate you are helpless. Tooling around highsec for a couple of days wasnt bad, but now its just me stuck with nothing to do.

the issue even happens when alt tabbing out of the game, with out a single client running.
If you hit tab twice, the windows appear but minimized, you can double click on them to maximize them, but then the ui eventually disappears and you have to alt tab out again to reset it. |

Ok slightly diffrent report of similar issues here.
First experienced GUI loss using 'EVE launcher' to run 4 clients.
After starting clients manually and 'windows' keying back to desktop to change clients the GUI problem seemed resolved.
BUT the clients run like snails. Even with graphics turned to mininum I suffer horendous control lag and dire FPS.
According to Task manager my processor isn't overtaxed though my commit charge looks unusually high.
Conclusion is I'd imagine the problem is some sort of memory problem running the new graphics under DX 9 |

First of all, thank you very much Mahon.
Second, Confirming this is a workaround. Problem is while in fullscreen mode. Single client though, don't want to push it.

I've tried running the repair tool, defragging and just about everything I can think of short of completely uninstalling the client and reloading it (and I am not sure that would even fix the problem.)

An additional thought may be an under-the-hood rendering of many, many ui elements exhausting resources. I keep my people and places open 100% of the time and have hundreds of bookmarks on each character. I frequently open my notepad and have many notes, a good handful of which are at max length. I keep at least 7 chat channels open all docked into the same window. Local is pulled out into a seperate window. Cargo is frequently open as well as the dscanner. Make sure the QA team is using multiple clients that are heavily loaded like this.
A misnomer present in this thread is that "windows disappear". In reality it is ui elements that disappear, and its frequently the window frame itself (i don't know your architecture - just translating into a familiar paradigm). Sometimes its just some window backgrounds that don't render, other times its select line items in a list.
Blowing the cobwebs off of some old UI development/debugging experience eons ago, and watching the behavior of this issue, reminds me of and leads me to believe that you are silently suppressing resource allocation/rendering problems.
Hope this helps!! :D And I was going to report that ctrl-alt-w helps when this happens. All windows get minimized and your neocom returns, if it was lost. Then you can restore critical windows one by one such as your overview and/or people and places so you can warp to safety. But I saw someone mention tab-tab a bit earlier and i had forgotten that trick. I'll be trying that in addition to playing in windowed mode tonight.
Thank you all.
p.s. oh, but ctrl-alt-w causes you to lose all but your system chat channels - a bit of a pain to keep opening them back up. Is that normal? Should that be normal? |

Situation on TQ has not improved including attempts to avoid the UI disappearances.
Strangely, SiSi is unaffected. Spent the last two days playing on there and not experiencing any of the graphical issues that are present on TQ.
Have not played on Duality so am unable to test the latest and greatest fixes.
Something i forgot to mention while making this post was I recently noticed during my attempts to close the EvE window from the taskmanager while using the multi-user login mode on Win XP pro sp3 via ctr alt del selection menu, My cursor becoms lodged in the lower left side of the screen and will not move outside of a 2x2" box area in that corner. This has only occured AFTER the graphical glitch is encountered with no other programs running at the time of incident. This is really unacceptable and needs to get fixed ASAP.
The game is for the most part unplayable.
The Fixed Window mode works better than Full Screen but still causes the UI to disappear every now and again, but far less frequently.
There is also a new annoying but that causes the game to think the alt key is being held down so when you click on an object in space, the camera zooms in on it, whatever you click on, it zooms you to.
Highly annoying. |

I have exactly same probles and realy cant play this days cuz this game windows bug. I'm with XP aswell / pc- AMD Athlon 2x 2800 , 3gb ram , nvidia 440 Gt/. If u try to clear cache / update drivers or something else doesnt realy help - i tried aslo to change game graphic and make the game to fixed window mode instead full screen but still doesnt help. Soo this problem make the game prety much unplayable. Once when it starts bugging doesnt stop soo there is nothing that i can do. I saw that most of us are with differend graphic cards / procesors etc. soo that bug should be caused by some program or something from the windows. Anyway as we can see it doesnt show to all XP users in the game soo it should be something specific. CCP should look at the instalet programs aswell like skypes , internet exploeres , flex types or i dont know i'm not programer or something just giving some fresh ideas ... but they should do something cuz for and for the others with same problem the game is unplayable at this moment !? |

Related ? I will add, however, that I monitored the installation/upgrade process closely and did notice that after the error free patch download took place, the patching process took over. Near the end of the patching process, there was a "corrupted block" error found. This initiated the CCP Repair Tool, which downloaded another good bit of data and began to repair the patch. In the middle of that process, a brief message briefly flew by stating that there was a missing file (I think it was an Eve related DLL file, but it went by quick). At the end of the patcher, it restarted and I did not see any further mention of the file, Nor are there any errors shown when starting or playing the game.
I was considering a full client download and reinstallation over top my existing one, but I hear alot of people having this issue, so Im not sure that's going to help.
This is a critical failure, making it quite dangerous to play the game at this time. |

The bug appears in both windowed and fixed mode.
The clients is run from the same installation, so this might be a conflict because of that?

Workaround does not work.
Further investigation shows this occurs most to me during a session change when I alt-tab (to play poker in a google browser for examble).
Often tabbing back then clicking anthing such as open cargohold will then cause the windows to apparently vanish. I've often recovered this by clicking on an item from the overview (having to do this without a pointer, but by memory).
I believe to core issue is concerning the focus/re-focus when you alt-tab not updating correctly after/during a session change client update.
CCP Please can you advise us again when you expect to have this fixed as it is becoming very irritating if you run youtube videos etc while you play. |

I made an album with 8 images of the glitch.
They start in sisi with the release client and transition to TQ after crucible launched in latter photos. All images had a two chat windows, the station services/over view/capacitor console, etc... before it glitched. They are on two different characters and accounts, Raptor217 and Kitari Six. This is occurring whether im dual boxing or running one client. It happens whether my settings are maxed or at a minimum. It is not a heat issue as it normally starts after I have alt tabbed back in. Setting EVE to windowed mode does not fix the bug.
My computer, a macbook pro running windows xp on bootcamp, has up to date drivers, OS, and directx. Drivers were installed after removing the previous drivers completely and running a registry cleaner. I have three bug reports in on the issue: #120154 and #119656 on my main, and #120851 on my alt.
Judging by the amount of responses in the given time frame, and myself posting seriously and not trolling, this is a serious issue that needs immediate attention from ccp. Also I'm a week away from needing to buy a plex and haven't been able to rat for more than 10 minutes straight before everything on my screen dissapears and I have to kill the client through windows task manager since crucible came out.
TL;DR: I need to make enough isk to buy a plex in a weeks time and haven't been able to since crucible came out due to this glitch. |

This has been nearly a week now and given I run 4 clients it has cost me nearly 28 days paid playtime.
I'm not the only one with the problem and all who have seem to run at least 2 clients, So to my mind a lot of people are owed a refund from CCP for purchasing goods or services not of a usable standard otherwise CCP are making an awful lot of money out of us for nothing.
Of course I have no real delusions anyone will ever see any refund as the most likely CCP will hide behind there EULA and claim normal trading standards laws don't apply.
When will games company managers learn that as far as it's customers are concerned producing a update without major gameplay issues is more important then there corporate pride in keeping to some release date they pulled out of the blue. It does the company image and customer trust more harm then good in the long run.

Hi all
Found this thread while I was searching for fixes to my UI problems. I'm having the same issue as other people who've posted - disappearing/corrupted UI.
I'm on XPx64, playing fullscreen on a single account. I've tried closing other running programs (I thought it was a resource issue at first), but that didn't make a difference. This all started, for me, after the last patch for Crucible (3) and has happened approximately 3 times now (all in the last week, if I remember right).
I had my UI bug out a few minutes ago. While searching for fixes, I came across a post suggesting to move windows, particularly Station Services) away from the side of the screen. I managed this, and the UI sorted itself out immediately. This is the first time I've tried it, so I don't know yet if it's a consistent fix, but if I get any more problems, I'll post back. |

I wonder if the windows randomly disappearing has anything to do with UI scaling. I set mine at 90% from the default 100%, and I didn't experience the problem before I did that. However I change the UI's scale within only a few hours of updating the client to Crucible, so maybe it's just a coincidence.
Surprise surprise, I have WinXP SP3. And looking at Raptor217's screenshots, what I've seen matches. It doesn't always behave the same way, and it's really hard to predict when it will happen. I tend to play in Windowed mode rather than Fullscreen and it still happens often enough to be annoying. Sometimes I'll lose the UI when I dock. Other times, the UI disappears when I'm flying in space, and use the right-click menu to warp to a celestial.
I've had cases where switching from window to fullscreen or vice versa will fix it. Quite often it'll come back when I use the tab-tab shortcut to minimize all windows. Other times, rarely, it'll come back on its own after a few seconds.

Possible Workaround: Changed optimized graphics settings from performance to quality.
This worked for me, though sometimes it is difficult to even see the boxes to select. For those that can't see anything, hit escape, activate the first tab, and click just under all the drop down options on the far right box. The quality setting is the bottom option on Optimize settings drop down menu.

Just out of curiosity (and my apologies if I missed it before):
Does that only happen in full screen mode, or is using the "Fixed Window Mode" on Desktop Resolution a potential workaround (as that would basically feel like full screen, but still is a window)?
Also, I had a report of a player that seemingly has been able to fix this behavior on his machine by completely nuking the client and all related cache and settings folders (see http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_default_directories) before reinstalling it using the latest full client installer (http://www.eveonline.com/download/). A bit of a sledge hammer method, especially as at this point I can't guarantee this to be working reliably, but possibly worth a try if you have the time and bandwidth to spare. Having read all threads fully about this (since I have the same issue) I can say that the Fixed Window Mode seems to work as a temporary workaround for some, not for everyone.
Completely deleting all settings and cache folders does not help for me, don't know about others. I haven't gone to the extreme and reinstalled the whole client (yet). CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 -áGÇó-á Nyio -áGÇó-á Grenade? |

For me the situation is following:
TQ client: in full screen mode the bug appears very often. Using fixed window mode now and have not experienced the bug.
Duality test on Friday: The bud was present same way as on TQ client.
Singularity on Monday: I did tested it a bit and did not experience the bug. However I was playing around only for about minutes, so the timeframe might be too short.
I will report my findings from Tranquility after todays patch here. |

Hi,
Thanks for the update, but just to confirm that as of today's patch 1.0.1 and client update, I am still observing this issue.
I can 100% certainly say that is occuring due to session changes while being alt-tabbed.
Reproduction steps:
1. XP machine running youtube/google chrome and eve. 2. Hit autopilot/dock while out in space then alt-tabe to youtube 3. After a couple minutes alt-tab back to Eve and try clicking on items in a merged hangar, or chat window - STUFF DISAPPEARS.
Please keep working on a fix. Thank you. |

The bug is still present in all window modes, with multiple clients using XP. I too had about 25 to 30 minutes of relief from this bug after todays patch then it hit me again. After it came back i tried dumping the cache again with no results, i tried going back to different window modes and different graphics settings. the problem persists.

The update from today did not fix the bug! And window modes are NOT a fix for the problem either. They just decrease the likelyhood of the bug kicking in. Whats even worse, if you get the bug in windowed mode you have to restart the game because alt tab wont help to fix it then.
Maybe this screen can help you devs, because it shows what mess actually is happeneing when the bug kicks in. Client informations from skills to corp informations are thrown alll over the screen even when the according window arent open.

I must confirm the bug is still present in the patched version.
System is:
Windows XP SP 3 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 client in fullscreen mode Multiboxing 2 accounts with alt-tabbing
I want to contribute, that when the UI-windows are in an unstable state (they are seemingly disappearing randomly) one can always press Ctrl-Shift-Tab to minimize all windows. This minimized mode is all fine and i can not observe any glitches after pressing Ctrl-Shift-Tab. Maximizing one window after another again very ofter triggers the bug again - at some seemingly aritrary window. The window that triggers the disapperance of the UI cannot be maximized without closing other windows (i'm not certain but a session change might have helped sometimes). When the UI is in an unstable state already the drawing of probably a single UI-element (such as highlighting a single line in the Overview by mouse hoovering) can trigger the disappearance of parts or the whole UI.
After some time the situation deteriorates so far that there is no way - but to relog. When exiting Eve while the UI is in such an unstable state (which is not that simple without seeing any UI elements), quite regularily some Eve online aritfacts remain on the windows desktop.
Mutliboxing greatly reduces the time to trigger the bug (it's usually a matter of less then a minute) but repeatedly switching to the Windows Desktop while using a single client can also trigger the bug. I can also confirm that the disapearance of parts or the whole UI could already be triggered in Incarna - but it took very much longer to trigger the bug.

I am still on this, and have been the last few days. Yes, we can still get it, but at a decreased rate from before. I can only seem to force it during a dock/undock. And that's after a manic alt-tabbing. Our main problem, is that our logs *ahem* show nothing of use. We're currently connecting some debugging tools to find out exactly what happens in detail.
Just from my experience of this, when I change from Fullscreen to windowed when I have the problem, the UI gets redrawn and appears fine. Or if I have it in windowed, I go fullscreen, or resize the client window. So if you get affected, I would advise you try those first.
Really sorry, I have no clue why it is only affecting the WinXP base, but we are desperately working on a fix. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

Ok I'm going to publish what 'seems' ( 15 mins screen swapping in dock) to have worked for me.
Now the issue rermained after the patch and I was loath to do a reinstall (couldn't see the point unless it was a patching issue in the first place) but CCP's GM did put me onto the hidden cache folder that is installed on my windows.
Also note I am now running multiple instances of one client as this might be important.
So the Patch 'activation' method goes something like --
Clear your cache ( should you have trouble doing this because of lack of UI I would suggets 'EVE launcher' a free download that when provided with your client path will give you an out of game 'clear cache' option')
Open My Computer
Locate and check the radio button 'Tools- Folder options- view - advanced settings - show hidden files and folders'
then Navigate to
C:/Documents and Settings/*Your Username*/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP
Delete this whole folder ( don't worry EVE client will repopulate on restart)
Feel free to start your client and I hope you have some succsess, as I say this 'activation' method has had only limited testing so far but I'm usually able to recreate the bug fairly quickly and haven't been able to since clearing the 'hiddden' cache.
Good luck and feel free to let me know how you get on

this did improve things dramatically 5min of continuious jumping with 2 clients did trigger some glitches but they where seemingly of a different kind and where all recoverable. The downside of this approach is, you will have to go through a 30min client setup session for each of your chars.
I only renamed my hidden cache folder (that triggered UI Bug on Win XP) - maybe it can be of any use for debugging purposes. |

using one client fullscreen and one client windowed and being very careful to not hit alt-tab (using the start menu key to go to windowed client and clicking the taskbar to go to the fullscreen one) seems to 'help' but does not resolve it. Setting graphics to optimize for memory has made the biggest impact.
I live in a wormhole, and very rarely session change so that seems to have nothing to do with this bug, unless its just a stress point.
one more vote for a resource leak...
My normal play routine involves setting PI on like 10 different planets, and then for the rest of the evening, frequently holding open a half dozen corp hangar windows in a pos as i go about my business. It doesn't take long for the bug to kick in playing like this.
However, last night, I played differently. I logged on and immediately started PVE'ing with both toons - never touching the PI or opening mass windows. I played for a good 3-4 hours while being very mindful of keeping unused ingame windows minimized or closed before the bug introduced itself. And, surprisingly, the person I was running with, and had not experienced this issue yet, had it happen to him like 5 minutes later (coincidence). He's a windows 7 user.
And there is some sort of cross-client aspect to the issue. I did something that opened a modal window in my windowed client and then went to my fullscreen client and the bug was present. Even the minimize-all trick or tab-tab or nothing could get me control back until I went back to the windowed version and closed that modal window. I'd be looking for (forgive my rustiness if I get the terms wrong) named semaphores, shared locks, etc and such that exist globally.
And (again rusty) didn't windows vista start allowing more than 64k OS handles? Make sure they're getting closed. |

Issue continues to persist on both Windows XP Sp3 machine and Windows 7 as mentioned in my post on page one of this thread.
Ran one client, tabbed out to answer a message in MSN and tabbed back to find all windows partially rendered and attempted to tab out and back in again to see if it fixed itself only to completely blank my screen with the exception of the hangar and my ship in spin mode. Must ctrl alt del to close program since you cannot even see the esc menu. And as mentioned in my last update on this issue, only when EvE is open and the graphical glitch is present does it act like there is a movement restriction being imposed upon my cursor as it is bound in the lower left side of the screen and unable to move outside of a 2"x2" area of the corner, limiting me to keyboard navigation until I open the task manager and exit the ctrl alt del menu on XP pro.
At this point, I'm on the verge of cancelling my accounts since i can barely maintain graphics long enough to add a skill to queue before the UI glitches. Three(3) accounts which I cannot play. Atleast 2 of which I have set to 3 month recurring and one set to monthly recurring. Can't mission, can't pvp and I'm forced to waste my time on SiSi as that is the only stable client I can play on. (Strangely SiSi has been unaffected by crucibles myriad UI issues. Though I never adjusted the UI scaling on SiSi. it has remained at 100% while TQ had been adjusted to 90% and then shortly thereafter these graphical issues arose. Even reverting TQ to 100% did nothing to resolve or even slow the propagation of the glitches.)
I will agree it appears there's some sort of resource leak if this is affecting the performance of the machine even outside of the game client with another window activated prior to opening the CTRL ALT DEL menu. Especially since it affects cursor boundaries. Almost as though the entire User Interface was shifted down and to the left of my screen beyond a displayable point. How to PVP:1) Bigger gang than target gang2) trick targets into low sec and have local pirates help you out3) Always troll the person with "UMAD?"4) If all else fails, drop a carrier on them. |

Confirming problem still persists..... I didn't see anything in the 1.0.1 patch notes, or the client update that immediately followed, that addressed this. Issue continues to happen for me running 1 client in full screen. Has never happened to me in space, only in a station, but I think this may be just luck of the draw, as others have had the issue is space as well. It can happen within 1 minute of logging into the game, or after 1 hour idling minimized. Today I got the garbled rainbow-color window in the middle of the screen. Tomorrow I will try some scenarios between full screen, window mode, and fixed window to try and get an idea of what triggers this on my box.
I can confirm however, that it happens whether the "Load Station Environment" box is checked or not.
CCP Paradox - thanks for your continued follow-up on this. I wish we could give you something more concrete to go on, but everyone's experience seems to be slightly different. I'll continue to look at my XP machine to try and see something.

Just adding my voice to the choir. I am also still suffering from this issue after the patch, I am running a single client in full screen using win xp. Tabbing out of the game does seem to be the cause, tho last night the problem actually seemed worse as on one occasion jumping through a gate caused the display to glitch and min/maxxing would not clear the issue for me. |

Just to keep giving you guys updates in the interest of transparency: So we're still investigating, still nothing detailed but our first attempts at logging specific suspect areas failed. Which eliminates those areas out. Still working around the clock for a solution. The game reports the UI and sprites as being drawn, but of course they don't appear, or some windows have lots of missing things.
Again as a workaround, what I have found is when the problem happens, resizing the client if it is in windowed will resolve it and the UI will come back to life. Or try switching from fullscreen to windowed when you get the problem. Those two seem to bring all of the UI back. Hope to make several attempts today at finding the problem after more detailed log gathering. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

Another workaround would be to not alt-tab while undocking but this seems to be a dirty habit I picked up some time back to switch music or jergblerg on the forum.
Will try the resizing workaround shortly and let you know.
Ok literally just had the issue tabbing to type this post, while jumping a gate with the new effect of the jump button. Just to confirm resizing the window after a switch from full screen appears to have returned my windows (albeit due to shrinkage they overlap with the overview). |

This was not a problem during Incarna but began for me as soon as Crucible Deployed. I lost the screen-flicker that was present when starting EVE in Incarna but this is much worse. So it's an XP issue, I was tinking it was a graphics card problem so I updated the drivers to no avail.
Not sure it makes a difference but I resized my UI to 90% as soon as I saw the new font and realized how much info space I was losing due to it's size. Anyone running on normal font/UI size with these same problems?
I've tried to avoid ALT+TAB for quite awhile and use the Windows START (x2) on my keyboard to switch to my alt because of a 2-6 second mouse/cursor delay using the ALT+TAB.
Able to play both characters for several hours a couple nights ago in a WH. Scary-nervous when the problem erupts. It causes the ESC button to show a blank screen also so one is unable to properly log out. |

Anyone running on normal font/UI size with these same problems? Can sadly confirm that running at 100% font/UI size will cause this problem to appear
And can also say with 100% certainty that the problem will occur even when only running 1 client and not alt-tabbing or using Windows key to minimize the EVE client (running fullscreen). Ok it will keep running normally for a bit longer but even without running a second client and/or going into Windows it will still happen.
Hope they can get this fixed. My pc can't run Windows 7 because of a driver issue so I'm stuck with XP until I win the lottery so I can afford a new pc |

Adding my voice here first time ever about any patch. XP client nothing special but I often run x3 characters and sometimes carefully I can run x4 characters on the same box. Have done for years. Since Crucible I've encountered this disappearing UI all the time. Makes playing +tricky+ I usually just windows_button to my desktop and wait a while then back in and it has settled down (enough for me to finish whatever I was doing). One odd thing that I've encountered not read it documented in this thread. If I goto desktop and EVE is minimised and then after a while my screen saver launches then I have no mouse pointer (eeek no control at logon screen). I then tab my way down the list of users on my client then password and I'm back in at my desktop and the mouse pointer is returned. Thanks to Paradox we know CCP are seeking a solution. Please feed the hamsters (oh and get some sleep yourselves)
p.s. don't make me install Windows 7.

I have the same disappearing windows/UI issues.
Using Win 32 XP SP3 with the latest dx / 258.85 driver.
I-¦m running two clients from two diffrent folders, first client got these UI issues and the second client works still fine. Settings are almost the same. When crucible had deployed i was adjusting the UI to 90% with the main account, i didn-¦t touch the Alt account UI scaling wich is using the second installed folder. Mayby that helps a bit. Just for the record, this has nothing to do with resizing the UI. I never touched that option and I can't play on 2 accounts even 5 min without this bug happening.
There is one thing I just remembered though... Before Crucible I had some issues with the main items hangar window on my 2nd account. He's an industrialist and has a lot of items in his hangar (bpc's, materials, salvage and components, many cans). Strangely it happened only on that account.
Sometimes the items disappeared and I had to scroll down for them to return. When I scrolled back up they disappeared again. This only happened a few times so it wasn't annoying enough to file a bug Anyway, the items didn't disappear completely. There were many colorful artifacts that replaced the icons. Much like in this pic:
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/ab66/Mindnut_eve/20111201150303.jpg
Like i said it happened before the Crucible expansion and only a few times. Only client reboot would resolve this issue. Hope this helps in any way. |

Hope to make several attempts today at finding the problem after more detailed log gathering.
Well, the game actually behaves like everything is drawn. For example cursor changes appropriately, I can click things and they work correctly, except that I don't see them (for example if I lose my hud and windows, but remember where which module was I can still activate them. Same for example with probes and hitting "analyze" button). The error migh be somewhere in passing the data through the directX |

Same problem I just experienced though I hadn't alt tabbed. I'd launched drones and clicked to target an asteroid and suddenly lost all but the overview description window (not visible but they were functioning), a friend suggested changing from full screen to fixed window mode which seemed to work. |

I found a limited workaround. If you put it in windowed mode and use the windows key to bring up the start menu, you can access all your programs from there but EVE will always be visually drawn in the background even if you cant see this. This makes multiboxing very laggy, but possible.
Also, alt-tabbing or windows key-tabbing is the root of the cause. |

Ok I have been having the same issue after the patch on TQ, but to my knowlegde, it never occured on sisi prior to. After the patch this Tuesday like alot of it seemd better for short period of time, then it satrted again, but here a twist it then stopped on its for awhile then came back. about 5 mins after it returned, I started getting the corrputed windows in hanger then completely lost th ui. shortly after lossing pemantly (had some faint to ghost of a few bits) the screen started flickering.
I lost cursor but was able to open option menu with esc key on one client the text was all messed up there normal but on both when i hit the quit button the window vanished, good thing i knew roughly where the conformation box was, otherwise i would have had to close clients via the task manger. So it seems I can only play few hrs (not complaete active entire time) then i lose the client.

Another update from my end:
The fixed window temporary workaround does only work (with flicker and sometimes still vanishing windows) on single client. When running more than one client all the issues are back, though not as frequently as in fullscreen.
Tried all setting/settings combinations I could think of but it's the same.
Another older graphics related bug is also back now since Crucible, that has to do with bloom effects showing as white squares. It is also bug reported again. I just mention this here thinking it could perhaps be related somehow. CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 GÇó Nyio GÇó Grenade? GÇó Forums |

Update: For me the problem is exactly when i open eve alt+ tab few times and the bug start if i exactly open 1 extra game window more than the game windows i had before alt +tab. For example if i have overview + local + and drone game windows when alt + tab 1 or more times and open another window like market or assets or fitting panel all widows dissapear. Thats happening more if i open Character Sheet game window because i think is the bigges or have more graphics. Anyway when the things get bugged doesnt affect only EVE online for me personaly. If i open another game when EVE is up and bugged could see some graphic / game windows bugs aswell. Also affect my ctr+alt+del window graphic. Thats is for me personaly as i sad. Maybe adding new window of some kind when eve is up doesnt stack with the windows / SP3 detail or i dont know. I'm hopping that info will help to CCP to solve our problem. Soo i think you should look at the Windows XP things which support the game windows i have treid to change my graphics / full screen/ fixed windows UI scale but bug appears at any case. I'm not programe and i dont know what i am talking about but that is what i saw soo far. I'm thoping the other players will share their opinions aswell after reading my post. That could help at CCP at some point cuz i want to play already and its realy difficult to do incursions while your UI dissaper at random moments |

How do I switch from Full screen mode to windowed mode or vis versa if I cannot see the UI when I hit escape when this problem arises?
Is there a key command to switch from one view to another?
Because when the UI totally disappears (not when it becomes that weird view of colors and odd looking windows, there is a name for that, but I cant think of it) but when the UI disappears, even by hitting escape, you cannot see the escape menu.

Quick update. We have a possible fix. Been hammering away at it all today, and with our latest changes I have been unable to reproduce the problem. I have been destructively testing it, and I mean really, really trying to break EVE on Win XP. But so far, the UI stands and never breaks.
Hopefully the fix will make its way to Singularity soon. Will update you guys when it does. Big thanks to everyone who reported this and gave detailed descriptions in this thread. With your help we were able to develop some good hunches that were able to track down some problematic areas in the code.

Sure, but we don't actually have a definite answer. There wasn't a line of code that we saw and instantly thought 'this is the culprit'. However, what did happen is eventually we started seeing some patterns in the screenshots that players were submitting as part of their bug reports.
The patterns were that some sprites/textures were being used in various places of the UI. For instance, in the Character Sheet, we saw the normal character portrait, and then sections of that portrait were appearing in various other places in the game, such as the EVE Mail window.
So we refactored and removed some convoluted code, we also simplified the methods which draw the shaders/textures on the UI. After this refactor, the code that was written is much more optimized than before, and should slightly help performance with the UI.
Suffice to say, this defect caused us to rewrite some old code to make it more sturdy. I am hopeful that it should have fixed the problem. Still testing it, and I have yet to see anything break. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

Suffering from the same issue... WinXP SP2 GTX 260 Lastest NVidia Drivers.... Read the whole thread.
I'm living in WH so it has nothing to do with docking station. It's apparently either Alt-Tabing or just TABing in the game.
Might be helpful - some tips I use to restore windows back: 1. Zoom in and back may restore windows 2. Press TAB few times = windows will appear in a minimized mode. You can expand some you need by double clicking on those. However if you try to expand all the windows they will hide back. Chat and Overview are the ones to crash.
Waiting for a fix. Thanks for your efforts CPP Paradox!

The only way I can reliably avoid this issue is NEVER to minimize or alt-tab out of Eve.
I other words, I start Eve and must run the game ONLY until I am done playing.
I cannot use my alts. I cannot use my computer at all, other than to run Eve.
If I need to start a different voice program, I must exit Eve, start the voice program and restart Eve.
This is very frustrating.

Windows XP SP 3. ATI Radeon HD6770. Seems to be related to alt-tabbing. Also, seems to be related to opening new windows. For example, I click to see my character sheet and the whole GUI disappears. Then, I click to minimize the character sheet and the GUI re-appears. From there on I can keep toggling between various windows and the whole interface disappears or reappears - it seems to be related to how many windows are opened within the client, too.
Hope that helps!

In regards to this issue, I haven't had the screen UI disappearing nearly as often with the fixed window fit.
I have however, had a lot of issues with the screen flickering something furious when I have two clients running.
I am not sure how this relates to the UI disappearing, but it is almost just as bad as the entire ui disappearing when you are fighting stuff.
It flickers so badly that it goes white or it makes in unplayable. |

Me too!
Where you able to reproduce the issues I was describing?
When I switched to Fixed Window, it for the most part eliminated the issues with the UI disappearing, but it caused the client to flicker something furious.
It was on and off flickering, and when it was on, would get to the point where it would flicker so badly the screen would go white.
Also when you run multiple instances, it seems something is broken and it forces you to automatically zoom in on every object you click on. This is also random and happens when two or more clients are working. But one client will work fine, where as the other one, say I click on an SMA, the game will zoom in on that object, rather than just selecting it and me having to hit "look at".

I dual box and this only occurs on my main client. Both clients are ran in fixed window mode and only occurred since the very last update.

Just been testing this on sisi with a friend unfortunately all my UI windows disappeared and I was left this time with a static picture of my ship in space. The client was unresponsive and was sitting at 97% CPU usage which forced me to reboot as was unable to do much with task manager in order to terminate the client.
Looking at all the other posts though it seems that others are having more luck than myself so maybe I am just the odd one out. |

Well, after approx. 30 minutes of testing on SISI the UI is still there. Although, while there is hope that this bug has been fixed, different one appeared, and is equally annoying. Textures on many ships are not loading (even after re-starting the client) in hangar, in space, even on "Ships" tab. Changing graphic settings doesn't help. Same problem as everyone else, Window's XP SP3 ofcourse.
But I've switched to windowed mode and hit "maximize", The blue bar at the top is only a minor annoyance compared to before when the UI would completely disappear before I even had the chance to alt-tab =P
It may not be desirable but everyone here may find that work around less frustrating(AND PLAYABLE =D) then continuing with the current situation of "log out roulette"(Tell you what.. Its nerve racking to have the UI go -poof- while nav'ing through 0.0).
Hope it helps. |

Hi,
I've got the same issues using Windows XP SP3.
I used to press "X-TAB" to reduce all the windows when they start disappearing. But its really annoying when it begins in fight (0.0 living too...)

On Saturday i messed on on SISIfor over an hour, oll clients max graphics setting (my graphics didnt like it but it worked). the vanishig ui did not occur, nor did I notice any other glitches.
When the issue first occured on TQ i tried the the update graics friver trick, it helped a little, like it let me do a market search without the ui vanishing and reduced the apearence of corrupted windows (they just went invisible). Teh reason i manetion this last bit, given a coupl post mention new issues, you may still have to have the most current drivers for card, even with the current fix on sisi.
That said fix looks promising, by the way card is 9400GT, it bogs down with one client max settings. |

Confirming SISI bld 325367 seems to have fixed the issue or at least increased the stability for my case. We'll know more when it gets fully deployed Wed.

I was finally able to get on SISI. After approximately 1 hour of testing the overview is still stable. Good job, CCP Paradox. |

Looks like it is now fixed for me using TQ.
Great job Paradox for the fix, and also for the good communication. If I were to go to fanfest, I'd let you buy me a beer to say thankyou! |

I've been playing on TQ for the past few hours and found no problems with the UI. Thanks for fixing this and keeping us informed in the process, much appreciated.

So while in fixed window mode - it seemed to have fixed the UI disappearing, however it caused the screen to flicker quite horribly.
It also caused you to auto look at things when you clicked on them either in space or in the over view - much like that auto target bug when you click on something in the overview it automatically tries to target whatever you have selected.
I just switched back to full screen mode and we will see how it works out.
But for now, fixed window mode is also broken. |

So far so good for me on TQ since Crucible 1.0.2, except that the camera now resets everytime I jump through a stargate. I haven't tried with more than one client yet. Golem GÇó CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 GÇó Nyio GÇó Grenade? |

Thanks for the replies. Puts my mind at rest for now that you can play again without the UI going nuts. Sassums, can you file a bug report about your problems? I can try to investigate, I have never heard of anything like that.
And Nyio, I noticed that about the camera last night. Did it used to be different? I always thought it was like that.... maybe I will check what it was like before Crucible. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team BFF @CCP_Paradox |

Before Crucible it happened rarely, atleast not as often as now. Before latest patch 1.0.2, it happened alot (with fixed window), and now it happens on almost every jump. That's the best I can explain it.. Golem GÇó CCP In-Game Event 2011.11.23 GÇó Nyio GÇó Grenade? |

After switching back to Full Screen mode the issues I described ceased to exist. I can file a bug report (I have one open but got an email stating they couldn't reproduce the issue)
So it seems the Fixed Window mode is where the issues are right now for me, but that is not game breaking because I like full screen anyway.
I can still file a bug report if you wish.

Confirming that as of last night the issues presented during the launch of the crucible expansion regarding the User Interface bug appears to have been resolved. Had been on from 1300 hours till 0400 hours with no signs of any rendering issues. 3 accounts logged on and going a 24 jump trip experienced no issues what so ever. Obviously had been alt tabbing between all three using full screen at 100% ui scale.
Thanks CCP for the expedient fix to this issue.
(Would it be possible to petition for standing restoration due to missions that had to be left uncompleted at the time the UI bug was in effect?) How to PVP:1) Bigger gang than target gang2) trick targets into low sec and have local pirates help you out3) Always troll the person with "UMAD?"4) If all else fails, drop a carrier on them. |

Confirming that so far today after about 3 hours, issue is no longer present on this XP machine. I'll report again in a couple days if it stays gone.
Thanks to CCP Paradox for your follow-up and transparency in chasing down this bug! |
