Nothing more than the next guy with a super carrier but having full api access as a requirement to join a corp just seems a bit much. On top of that, a corp with a 1/4% tax rate and a requirement to pay membership dues if you miss a fleet fight just seems like the most jewish fascism of all. And its ******* blowing my mind that a corp would require this. |

Full APIs are fine when applying to a new corp. It's pretty standard. Wallet accounts are analyzed for potential spy alts by looking at major transfers of ISK. If your RL friend is just trying to help you figure out the game or something by looking at your skills or whatever you can customize that. Recruitment is not unheard of to have full APIs.
edit: also if you are in renter space the 25% tax is fine too. Some renter corps make you pay a fixed rate like 50mil a month. |

What ever happened to, "I know this guy - he's cool"?
I'm not gonna lie. This is the first time I've ever been asked for my full api in my 9 years of playing eve. Limited API - sure for IRC/forum verification. But never full access to all my assets/mails/etc.
When the hell did this become the norm? And so normal that you would ask a real life friend of 12 years for it?
**** me, how has EVE become this ******* paranoid about spies? Its ******* renter space, get over yourself. Also, I would be a ******* grunt joining with no roles and no access besides stations. i just don't see the point of the full api access.
--- Sidenote : I was accepted in the corp after giving them access but declined after reading their ridiculous "Pilot Assessment Program" (i.e. jew you our of more isk cause you didn't join fleet enough)
Sidenote Sidenote: I loaded up jEvEAssets to see what they saw. And holy **** - When did I accrue 10's of billions of isk and have less than 100M in my wallet. **** me, I have **** littered everywhere in eve. |

Awoxing and stealing everything that isn't nailed down when given the tinest of roles is the reason full APIs are customary these days. Spies can also be very useful.
Put it this way: if you had a super parked at a POS in a backwater system and someone wanted it dead, a spy could figure out where it is without much trouble - and before you know it, you're -1 super. It's happened before. |

I imagine every other Supercarrier owner in your prospective corp would prefer it if everyone who is going to be sharing their poses and supercap channels has been vetted to stop the obvious spies. In fact, as a Supercarrier owner myself, I would find your complete nonchalant stance towards security highly suspicious in and of itself.

There are a quick simple solutions to this. If u can answer yes to the things below, then you can safly send him your full api.
1) Are you bigger then your rl friend?
2) Do you own a bat? (a sock filled with butter will also pack one hell of a punch if you use it correctly)
Paying for missing out on fleets however is ******** and i would tell them to shove their tax somewhere where the sun never shines.
QUOTE CCP Dolan and the EVE Online development team:-áThe battle was relatively even for some time with CFC and Russian forces holding moderate lead at first and only have a slight lead in Titan kills. Then came a turning point in the battle. Manfred Sideous, the initial Fleet Commander for PL/N3, handed over command to the CEO of Northern Coalition., Vince Draken

You know man you chose to play the game. You chose to buy a super. The only groups that are going to let you use it effectively are groups that require full apis.
Since you obviously sound like a stubborn moron, I look forward to seeing your super loss mail on the killboard soonish.

Thanks everyone for the insight of 0.0 politics/recruitment.
First off for clarification. The super was never going to be part of their corp and it was not part of the recruitment process. Yes, it was my big gun asset compensating for my little ***** that I was trying to hide. I'm sorry!
Secondly, I only purchased a month sub and my time is about up. It saddens me that I will not be enlighten by the posts of COAD.
Again, Thank you everyone for your time. |

I don't like being spied upon. Whether in-game or out of game. Sure in-game has a very different flavour and implications, but still.
I've witnessed a "Corporation security officer" being drunk on comms and reading another persons eve-mails on TS out loud (NOT my current corp or alliance). Was he a pretty unique jackass? Yes. Were there any consequences for him? A slap on the wrist. |

I'd remove him as a director, simple as that.
APIs are not required to spy on you, and very few groups constantly look at your api (you can track who acesses your api and how often they o it).
The first time they view it is for security purposes, where they check your known and possibly unknown affiliation, track where you've been getting and sending money (because you could be funded by an enemy) and a cursory examination of your mail to make sure theres no "infiltrate this group" mails. Same goes for your contract history - are you getting odd contracts from a hostile entity?
Usually then its a look at your net worth and skill set to make sure you fit with the group and will be able to function.
After that your API is simply kept on file in 90% of eve groups and is used to run out of game services like IRC/Forums, and in the event that something shady happens that might involve you, or implicate you, your API can be reviewed for security.
Thats it.
What the moron in the OP doesn't get is that even though his 'friend' (im using the term lightly, this guy seems like a jerk) has known him for a decade, the rest of his friends group DOESN'T know him, and there have been too many cases over the years of 'oh you can trust my friend' that turned bad, so groups now just say ok you know him get his deets and we'll run quick for you.
Honestly if half of you would stop sending cyber sex mails you'd be way less sketchy about giving out your api keys, theres nothing in there that can hurt you or be used against you, and even if you THOUGHT a group was using it for an information tunnel (honestly, 0.0 groups make **** tons of money, nobody gives a rats ass about your jita trades) you can ALWAYS kill the tunnel by deleting the api key.
