How very novel. Let's all make some stupid suggestions and berate CCP for not implementing them! Then we can all vow to quit their "crappy" game and not come back. Maybe we'll even self-destruct our battleship in protest!

That includes my corp and fellow pirate allies. Im sure other pirates will follow aswell. Youve seena carebear cry, wait till you see a pirate cry.
Jump in points are the last resort of having fun in this game and the last possible way to actually pirate and make a profit and make a living as being a role played pirate. IF you fail to do the above, I garauntee hundreds of pirates will quit your game, I know Mercenary Frigates are almost ready to quit this game. WE PAY 12$ A MONTH TOO, STOP NERFING US.
I for one will go on strike if this happens, like I said I will have hundreds of pirates to back me. I suggest you rethink your plans.

Criminals complaining to the authorities (ccp) that its too hard to be a criminal is just ridiculouse nonesense. Thats like theifs in real life *****ing to police about how hard it is to steal stuff and asking them to make it easier. Even in a game context this kind of position is just absurd.
If you dont have what it takes to be a criminal then perhaps you should introduce yourself to the mining laser.
Theatening to boycott wont do anything, the few pirates that will quit will never outweight the tons of people that will find this game way more friendly. Lots of newbies quit after being killed by a pirates. All their work just destroyed in a few seconds. Pirate mass flee will open up many new door for noobies making the game better overall.
For many people this game is like a simcity type simulator. Some chaos is fun but its hell of lot more fun to build things up.
Bottom line criminals are a small percentage and their "say" in how the game should develop should also relfect that percentage.

Quote: Edited by: Kane Luger on 24/10/2003 16:15:18 Even though Tank and I are far from friends I have to say he has hit the nail bang on the head.
For months now pirates have been getting shafted off CCP. The game I once loved is one i enjoy less and less every time I play. All I want to do is play the game I was promised on the box.
Piracy has become by far the hardest proffession in EVE vurtualy every pirate i know (and I know quite a few) have to use an alt as a businessman to fund there pirating ways. Where as the likes of traders have a free ride to print isk by moving valuable good through 100% safe systems.
I remember my days in FOA where we could make a raid in high sec space then get chased by the police sometimes they would get us other times they would not (just like real life). But now any offensive act and Concord spank your ass so bad you can not get away ever with there uber response. This is ******* bull****.
CCP sort out the ******* game.
The reason Pirates are being repeatedly nerfed, is because the people being "pirates" arent really pirating, they are just griefing and killing for no reason, which upsets the players (referering to the large mass of non-pirates) and people leave the game, so what fun is that? that there are players in EVE that make other peoplse "fun" SO MISERABLE, that they leave the game.

I haven't finished reading all the pages yet--- but guys like you (gadgets, Terrapin, Bugeye etc)insist on taking a serious effort on Tank's part to express his valid GAME concerns, and turn it in to some sort of hate vendetta on your part. Tank is a contributing person to this game and has walked many miles in the shoes of a PvP player in this game.
I didnt know that camping a jump-in point, telling everyone how many ISK he got from it and ranting about carebear ISK billionaries is regarded as a major contribution to the game.
Quote:
Tank is trying to point out and I agree entirely that, as it has been said over and over and over again---this game is turning in to a mining simulation. PvP gaming is poor and weak for the simple reason that this game makes it impossible for two potential agressors to even MEET and CCP is going to even make it worse.
You wanna meet an enemy for pvp combat? Just select the 'show destroyed ships' map-filter and mark the large green dot as your destinations. Chances are good that you will find some Battleships looking for a fight
Quote:
Tank should have told you losers to blow it out your arse-end but amazeingly he hasn't. So I will do it for him.
What do you expect from us carebears? That we mine like hell to get into a battleship and then jump into a blockade? I really dont see why i should waste my time just to commit suicide.

I said this before, but seeing as though Eve is only made of 4 way points - stations, gates, jump in points and roid belts. Taking away jump in points would be like cutting away 3/4 of the universe.

Why does it matter you fool!?
Wait for tracking, stealth and extortion in game functions. Once these are in pirates will turn to stealing and maybe less killing, and bounty hunters will hunt down pirates and skin their pelts.
What ever happens piracy won't be an easy lazy profession, so no more whinning. Piracy is just one of the many things EVE fudged up.

He means "Gimping your IQ to a level where he doesn't have to do anything to escape".
Gate camping isn't brainless. It takes about a half second of thought to realize that attacking anyone in a roid belt only works against the collosally stupid and inattentive.
Jump in camping isn't brainless. It takes about a half second of thought to realize that attempting to pirate infront of a sentry gun takes a larger task force or is impossible.
So the furbearers want the player pirates to be as brainless as the belt npc pirates. It just ****es them off that the player pirates have at least the required single digit IQ to see through their pathetic scam.

There are quite a few corps operating in 0.3 space who only see pirates occassionally. They have battleship protection? Sure they do, but at times they are vulnerable. Why should pirating be a 24/7 activity in any case? You just sit there and say "oh, I'm going to be a pirate from now on" and expect to be battling for your whole log-in time pvp? Do you put in grunt work looking for targets like miners do looking for ores? Nope! Thats what I mean about using brains - and if you don't bad your quarry, thats too bad for you.

Well, I'll admit I didn't read pages 2-6 of this horrid thread... I will just say (as someone who has been spaced and podded on another character a few times);
If this was "the real universe", like as in, reality - not comparing EVE to Compton or Beverly Hills - but we are REALLY in space, flying space ships, trade and piracy are our livelihood... HOW DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE?
Safe, gentle, passive, nurturing, breast-feeding carebearland? No sir. It would be risky to leave your bathroom. Someone always around the corner to kill you and steal your hard earnings. You SHOULD be fired upon and destroyed if you carry something valuable that a pirate would treasure. You SHOULD be podded if you park a Bestower at a belt and go to work for 8 hours, knowing your fatty holds will be loaded up when you get home.
And what about you PC rats. coming into noobland just to grief people? There is nothing to gain in noob space except noob frustration and crappy loot. You can justify the "great earnings" all you want, but the bottom line is, you are GRIEFERS. That cannot possibly be a lucrative living, unless you are such a gimp-ass pussie pirate you cannot survive taking on someone of your own merit. That seems likely the case. :)
I guess what I am saying is, the environment in EVE is perfect (lacking content, but systematically perfect). People are paranoid when their threat indicator goes off, and they should. Pirates are hesitant to pull the trigger because it is ILLEGAL (re: Concord illegal) to kill ANYONE. Pirate or not. Go to 0.3 or less space, kill everyone you want. Why struggle over whether or not the turrets can destroy your uber battleship? gtfo out of noob space, sissies.
Or, take the risk. Be a real pirate and go against the system. Risk death and loss just to win your prize. Stop whining about how hard life is for you in neutral space. And you carebears, stfu about getting your asses blown up trying to fly through "their" space. You pushed them there, deal with it. Go mine your Veldspar and have a nice (AFK) life in EVE.
My 2isk.

"Do you put in grunt work looking for targets like miners do looking for ores? Nope! Thats what I mean about using brains - and if you don't bad your quarry, thats too bad for you."
... Unfortunately, your argument how this is somewhat better kind of piracy falls flat on its face when you realize people will still call you a griefer if you do put in the grunt work and hunt them down. (because "griefing is hunting miners")
Of course, hunting people who don't happen to have their best pvp combat gear on means also you are a coward, and if they manage to warp out for whatever reason, then you are unskilled n00b as well. :s
Bottom line being, since you'll be viewed the same no matter if you put in the grunt work or not, you might as well not bother and pick the easy route...

Why is that? As I said, a BS was destroyed by a pirate in a roid field last night (0.3). The pirate waited for his moment, thats all - the BS was loaded out for mining. Do you just want to engage whatever you like whenever you like? Do you think pirating is about hiding behind a rock and then jumping out when someone passes by?
I never said that things couldn't be done to improve the situation for everyone - when player stations are in (if ever they arrive), you will be able to group together and lay siege or attack/threaten - anything - but camping gates and jump-ins followed by pod-killing the unwary is just plain griefing. To use an analogy, camping in Half-Life MP and chucking grenades at passing chars was considered lame - I don't see why this game should be any different.
If you don't think pirating is viable in Eve at the moment then you are probably right. You will have to wait until things change enough for miners and corps to head out to 0.0 space - at the moment it isn't going to happen so perhaps you pirates should just fight each other in the mean-time, huh?

Datasheets are a n00b level trade good. Datasheets can be sold for 151 isk in Heimatar currently. A Tempest has 600m3 of cargo space availible. A Tempest could therefore hold 6000 units of datasheets. Total value of collecting a full Tempest of Datasheets: 906,000 ISK
Bistot is hardly a n00b level item. At current market prices a full refine of bistot is worth about 1,576,508 ISK. Same Tempest with 600m3 of cargo space can hold 37 units of Bistot, roughly 18.5% of a refine. Total value of collecting a full Tempest of Bistot: 291,653 ISK.
And you wonder why a pirate would shoot an industrial in Empire space over one in 0.0 space? Muppet
P.S. Collecting the a Tempest full of Bistot does not take in account having to gather enough Bistot to make a full refine, which means offloading the cargo somehow while attempting to collect more. Having a hauler availible for the Tempest makes it even more ludicrous to go after Bistot Miners. As if you fill a Mammoth with datasheets from a day of pirating, you will still have a cargo worth far more than a hoarder full of bistot as you did not have to pay for the datasheets you stole.

Ok then you goto 0.0 space where you got the Mega corps/mass alliances. Sry im a pirate, im not on a suicide mission. You take out 1 indy which will prolly get away which prolly has a insta jump with a gate in 0.0 space because most of them all have em and if u goto any mining ops in 0.0 space, you got 10-40 battleships there mining so therefore that wipes out that idea and even if you do get them they prolly only have bistot in their hold which is completly useless to a pirate and then 5 minutes later youll have 30 battleships up ur ass so that def wipes out that idea, can you come up with any more idea's on how to 'pirate'.
Obviously you aren't quite the great pirate of the space lanes you think you are. My main character is out raiding the commerce lanes every day. He is part of a war effort and catches about 4 to 5 haulers a night. Watch the jumps in the last hour and where in 0.0 space they are heading. Deep space miners and haulers usually have great mods on board for larger cargo space and atferburners to get back and forth faster. Sure might be chased for a while by a few battleships and a handfull of cruisers. If you can't get away you need to brush up on your EVE skills and remember that the advantage goes to the runner. Thats the fun in it.
10 - 40 battleships after you for killing one hauler, ah don't think so, wrong. No one knows where you really go in 0.0 if you use the map to your advantage. If you move out of the empty areas where they can track you by the # of pilots in space. Dive between systems that have people in them, they will loose track of you. You have to use your brain and not just sit at a gate. If you are wanting to catch someone get off you lazy arse and chase them.
You might have to move out 18 jumps and intercept a blip that you have no idea what kind of ship it is or who it is at first. Once you catch up to them you turn around and follow the really nice trail they have made with jumps in the last hour. sometimes they are a battleship coming back from mining, sometimes a cruiser out scouting. But most of the time with a deep space mining project they are a hauler.
Do you get it, there is plenty of opportunity to attack people and pirate all you want. You are just as bad as the empire space ninnies. The ones that are afraid to go to 0.0.
My main is not a pirate so he does not pod his victims. Its a war effort but no need to kill the pod when you are 20 some jumps from the nearest station. The vultures will give them heart attacks all the way back to a station in thier pod. THe vultures are the corps out there killing that just want to blow stuff up and don't care if its a pod or a ship.
When it all comes down to it you are a lazy gate camper that want CCP to serve victims up on a silver platter for you. Bullcrap, do some work to get your prey Lazy Arse.
Jump in points are a loosers way of getting prey, so is camping gates. CHASE YOUR PREY.....................

Why would a pirate go through all that trouble for less profit? To satisfy your sense of honor and fair play?
Higher chance of netting a cargo worth 900k and the prey comes to you versus the lower chance of netting 300k worth of bistot which would require you to collect another 163 units to cash in on?
Nevermind the not so rare occasions of getting a chance to net someone like my corp when we hauled about 200 million worth of megacyte and zydrine through empire space. As we didn't need to haul it through 0.0 space.
You're attempting to prosecute a war against a specific set of targets. A pirate is not attempting to prosecute a war against any specific target. As you're forced to be more discriminate in your activities, the difficulty increases as does the payoff: loot plus retribution against a specific enemy.

Well if CCP wouldnt have added so many sentry guns at the gates in "secure space" the pirates could "pirate" instead of just kill. Now the only way you can "pirate" is in 0.0 space and most of that is controlled by an alliance, or most travelled gates have "gate keepers". So being that pirates cant really camp most gates anymore makes them killers so they can get your loot.

Edited by: SUNchaser on 24/10/2003 19:11:36 Wandering around 0.0 space used to be the risk. Never knowing when someone just warping in was friend or foe. Mining roids used to be feasible till they got nerfed in a long ago patch. Reason's I don't make myself a target for gate campers, 1) as some have pointed out its fairly easy mining scordite and with patience you'll make lots more than the five gatecamps waiting hours on end to jump that one guy in an empty shuttle. 2) Access into 0.0 space used to be free and easy, NOW its the ACCESS that is the danger. 3) If i do venture into 0.0 its using an alt in a easily replaceble frigate or shuttle set on autopilot, total replacement cost under 50K, just to pick up items .... you get it there are NPC farmers and carebear miners both operating in different regions of space and the carebears swap isk for the farmers crops and the only sticking point is the campers in the middle.
