But considering that EvE is arguably the best space game in the galaxy for now, and thats it looks like theres tons of people wanting the experience without the PvP aspect which admittedly can involve immature and nasty interactions, CCP might be losing out by not having a exclusive PvE shard.
so basically what your saying is that if we are not playing the game the way you play it and make of it like you... then we dont belong to play in the same universe with you. which was created for the all of us.
thanks for putting me in the generic stereotypes. i just started a few weeks ago. i plan on going to lowsec, but im still learning. when i feel comfortable, ill get there. but not right now. im having fun playing the parts of the game you dont like or seems to need anymore.
might wanna tone down the "everyone but me is lesser than me rhetoric"...
but what would i know... i just started.

CCP has not shown the kind of creativity it takes to make a fun PvE game. Unless that changes a PvE version of Eve would die a horrible death.

DonĘt get me wrong. I donĘt care if there is a PvE server or not. ItĘs just that you would get bored real fast.
You mine to get minerals to make stuff to sell, right? People buy stuff to replace stuff that gets blown up, right? Well, the rats in Eve are never going to kill stuff as fast as it gets made. Losing a ship in PvE is the result of either ignorance, stupidity, or just not paying attention. Maybe a mission throws a challenge at you that you didnĘt expect. Maybe you tried to run a level 4 mission in a frigate. Maybe you went to sleep at the keyboard.
Point is that most player deaths are the result of the game being a PvP game. Remove PvP and you donĘt even need Concord to fly in and kill someone for setting off a smartbomb at a really bad time.
Players donĘt die, stuff donĘt need to be replaced. That means that, eventually, everyone gets a complete set of the top named modulesą Then what? There is no reason to buy anything anymore. There is no marked for modules you find either. So, whatĘs the point?
People get bored and quit. Game Over.
QFT!
Once you get all the best gear in a PvE game, there is no point to playing any more and you realize you wasted years of your life for nothing. That's why I stopped playing them, but it seems that most people are too stupid to realize it...
EVE has even less PvE content than any of those other games. So when we tell you PvE-only people to "Go Play WoW" we are trying to help you. You'll get bored of EVE PvE and quit alot faster than in those other games.
So please stop trying to ruin EVE with your stupid ideas and just play a PvE game if you are one of the many mindless zombies. A PvE server would destroy EVE and everything that makes it great. The economy would be ruined. The sense of community we get from having only one server (china doesn't count) would be lost.
To the OP: You usually post alot of really stupid things but your reasoning here was the most stupid thing I've seen from you yet. Almost everyone has at least 2 alts in NPC Corps and there are also many people who do play in low sec and 0.0 who just want to solo pirate and not be a corp slave.

My 2 ISK on this matter.
Firstly, I doubt you've ID'd 20k players, but we'll forget that for now.
I spent the first 3 months of my existence in the School For Applied Knowledge (check my bio for exact duration). In that corp, I probably learnt more about the basic mechanics of the game than anywhere else. I learnt the game at the same pace as a lot of other pilots of a similar age, and there were a lot of older pilots about (corporal hicks for example).
Equally, I had a small career break when I didn't want to partake in a corp activity for a while. I was able to do the same as other older players had, and pass on knowledge to new players starting out.
I don't think you can argue for a PvE server simply because people don't want to get involved in PvP. PvE players aren't just miners and ratters, they directly contribute to the Eve economy.
Have you ever considered that it's you who has the problem, not the 20k players who want to remain in PvE corp?

It would have a major impact. Keep in mind that 90% of EVE's gameplay is NON-fighting PVP/PVE.
What I said was that there is not enough content to create a PVE server and I can not see CCP spending the resources to create one. Heck just look at what them having to use resources for the Dragon server has done.
But if it keeps so many people busy with non-PVP, surely the content must be enough for them? Either this, or the PVE experience is enhanced by the PVP (by influencing the market, making the sale of faction items worthwhile etc.), so that making a separate shard would reduce the current PVE experience.

The problem with your theory is that many of those people you're talking about are alt characters that people are deliberately leaving out of their main corp. Also: Just because someone is in an NPC corp doesn't mean they never go to 0.4 or lower and enjoy it there.
You are assuming that being in an NPC corp somehow means people don't enjoy PVP. That couldn't be further from the truth. Some of the most rutheless lowsec pirates are in the NPC corps.
Just a simple fact you're forgetting about.
Also: CCP has stated on numerous occasions that: EVE is EVE... there will only ever be one shard unless server growth outpaces the technical capability to keep it on 1. And even if that happened it will still be EVE, not an alternate ruleset.

Almost every post has said that the economy in EVE runs thanks to PvP. Thats so true so I wont go there.
I have also played Ultima Online for several years some time ago. They are different games true, but still online games nevertheless. As someone mentioned earlier, the lifespan of pure PvE players on a pure PvE shard would be quite short. Why? because you can make _huge_ amount of ISK and get that iwinbuttonfactionbattleship in way shorter time than on "regular" server. Thus you can go on a rampage trough all the complexes, planets, special places and so on in a much shorter time than on "regular" server. This will make the game repeatitive and boring quite fast (the same that happened in UO with Trammel). I personally believe that CCP wouldn't make any more money with it, it is quite sure they would instead lose it. The opening of a PvE shard might shatter the social and economical system of "regular" shard. I would also guess that most of the pirates in regular shard would not want to purely fight other experienced PvPers day after day?
When I used to play UO the rampaging of dungeons and such was quite exiting at the beginning. After a while it got extremely boring, the game was all about collecting money, items and skills. Somewhere in the middle of my gaming experience they introduced Trammel. I found it extremely boring, loads of people rampaging trough those dungeons and such that used to be abandoned.. Why? They weren't afraid to get killed... There simply wasn't enough content for all the players on the Trammel side. You could roleplay yes, but where ever you went, there were atleast two other guys... That gets extremely irritating at the end. I really miss the old days before Trammel in UO. Hunting in murderer infested dungeons, killing murderers at first, and then becoming one. Terrorising other players a bit, but not too much. Those were the days but Trammel really fracked it up. Thats why I left UO, it was damn boring.
The RISK makes the game worth playing. There is a *rap load of content but you can't get to all of it in few moments, so you keep playing. If you still don't get to all of it and really want, you join an alliance and start interacting. Simple, there isn't a single good reason for PvE shard than to get to know every single thing in EVE. And then it gets boring and you uninstall the game and go on. I am quite sure CCP doesn't want this :) I have been playing this game for about 4 months now, and the reason I love it so much is simply the fact, that there is so much to do, so much to look, so much to buy, so much to kill and so many people to interact with. PvP is a crucial part of this game and makes it what it is.
If most of the pirates just wouldn't kill me on sight but instead ask for a bribe...
Another pointless post on the forums, oh well.. Back to shooting down those dratted heretics...

Edited by: Tyrantus on 03/10/2006 20:27:31 Heres an idea that will be palatable to most players regardless of playstyle..
Make "Theme Park" plex systems in empire for all those "npc" corp players that would rather pve than pvp.. Make them isk reward only with no named loot so they are forced to buy stuff to fit their ships from the market and boost the economy.. These plexs would also be instanced to guarantee that everyone who wants to run them can do so and remove the frustration of always finding an empty looted plex after the farmers leave.. Make them of all flavors from 1/10 for noobs all the way up to 5/10 for groups/advanced solo players.. Now.. after they inevitably get bored with running them and the same missions for a few months they will have some decent experience with ship fittings and a nice fat wallet to buy stuff with.. What to do now? Well since they are still playing good ole fashined eve they just might take the step out to low sec/0.0 and join the fun..
Much better solution yes?

There's another thing I just thought of.
The PvP players and carebears are symbiotic. The carebears keep prices down and ore supplies up while the PvPers keep the prices up by blowing **** up. Without the two opposing economic forces the economy would suck one way or another.
This coming from a 99% mission runner planning on going to 0.0 before the end of the year.
In Diablo II I did NOTHING but PvP. In WoW I played on a PvP server exclusively. So I'm a carebear now, but mind your overview. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Support fixing EVE's UI here |

I may be a newbie, and yes I do love PvE games such as Elder Scrolls and the like, but I'm loving Eve and I can tell you it's not because of the PvE content. I've had better PvE in old DOS text games.
I'm all for CCP hiring people to create more content via missions and such, but there's no way I'd move to a PvE-only shard.

I just can't see it working at all with the current game mechanics. It would have to be a different game, not just a case of turning off the ability to shoot other players. I also think it would suck the very soul out of Eve.
For instance, if you claimed sovereignty in a system, it would be yours forever, with no way of any player taking it from you.
So we turn off sovereignty too. So now, anyone can just build an outpost wherever they like? Before long, everyone would have a hangar full of officer-fitted faction Battleships in their own personal outpost. Ever entered a cheat code on a game you were enjoying and found before long that it didn't really hold much appeal any more? It'd feel like that before very long. And then what? Once every 0.0 system has an outpost, no-one can build any more so new players are out of luck. Maybe once he gets bored and quits, someone new can take it over? ;)
Because of this, the changing politics would be gone too. A lot of players in 0.5+ who never pvp still enjoy reading about the conflicts out in 0.0 space. Maybe they think of one day joining the wars, maybe they're just glad they're not out there and are happy to watch the crazy people blowing the hell out of each other. Either way, it adds to the atmosphere and appeal of the game, regardless of participation.
Eve's loved a lot for it's player-created content. Take that away and it would be a hollow game. It would be like taking the PVE out of WoW ;)

It is a bad idea. It doesn't take 5 minutes thinking about the implications to reach this conclusion.
It'd be an entirely different game with vastly increased demands for content on the devs.
WoW clone in a space skin is not a recipie for making money in the long term. It's a short term money grab that will fade out since it provides nothing special in the end.
What do you do when you get a t2 fitted bs/command ship, and can rat against anything out there? Where is the challenge? What is the point?
How do you keep an economy going where almost nothing gets destroyed?
Who will support the economy on the pvp server? What pvp players would stick around in a half-formed world that only gets a fraction of the dev attention?
A lot of people (150k) seem to like Eve as it is. Why must we ruin everything different and turn it into something that appeals to the masses? Do you suggest fancy restaurants start serving mcnuggets? Or open a chain of cheaper places with cheaper food? Think that's a good idea too? |

Bah, there's extreme ends of the scale where you have 'dedicated PvPer' and 'never left highsec/newb corp'. But there's a lot of ground inbetween, and I'd guess most fall into that spot.
*shrug* If we start with 'would a PvE EVE actually work', I'd have to say, no not really, or at least not without such a huge amount of changes that make it not EVE any more.
Very simply, the resources in EVE, complexes, low security systems with ore and rats, and just plain territory are _intentionally_ finite, and therefore something to compete over. You just can't do that in PvE only mode. Imagine 5 miners camping the arkonor 'roids in 0.0, waiting for the respawn after whatever downtime, and it's gone after 10 minutes, nothing that can be done about it. And of course, then shifting that back to Empire by the frighter load in total safety.
Naa, PvE only EVE would be terrible. Even those who 'only PvE' add to the economy by buying and selling. Competition for asteroids is introduced. If that other mining corp there is hurting your business, then you have the option to do something about it (wardec, sucide attack, hire mercs). If it were no PvP, then the only thing that'd be left was forum whining.
*shrug*. Wouldn't call myself a PvPer by any stretch of the imagination, but it's an absolutely crucial part of the gameplay.

Pure PvE kills the most important thing for me in EVE.
EVE is a living world! If i don't like someones face i can blow him up, if the are cops around, they will get me. BUT i am free do at least try it. There are no NPCs giving out the best Stuff after 8 hours of camping the respawn location. (Ok, there IS really good loot, but i don't mind camping for it because i would blow it up shortly after getting it)
One of the Best things in EVE is that you really can loose something, risk i smaking the game better as in no risk, no fun.
The Sandbox principle is the motor of EVE and the destruction of this sandbox is the main cause i left SWG and started EVE.
good games are fun with fewer rules than bad games.
Pure PvE would have a lot of added rules, no thanks.

OP obviously doesn't understand the economics of Eve.
Only thing a PvE player uses up is ammo. They lose comparatively few ships. And PvE is best done in Caldari ships. So pretty much the only thing that's gonna be in demand on the market is missiles. Woo-hoo.
At the same time, half the carebears from Tranquility switch over anyway, then quickly realise that there's no *player-driven* market worth speaking of. Eventually realising that this means it's much harder to make loads of money industrially, and getting bored and wandering off.
So now the industrial base on both shards is destroyed.
Nice going, OP.

PvE server -- ugh!
Sorry, even a 90% carebear like myself doesn't like the idea of a carebear server. If I wanted that, I'd go play the X series (an excellent single-player game BTW).
I love having the option of doing PvP anytime I want, just by flying over to low security and looking around. I love the fact that I don't *have* to do so to continue to advance my character, unlike that other game whose name I won't mention. I also love the idea that if I get involved with a real corporation, and I p*ss someone off, they might just declare war and I'd have to watch my back *everywhere*.
A PvE server would be... boring.
