In the last few weeks I have clicked infoed the local bios of probably 20,000 people in EvE and its just astonishing how many people are in NPC corporations and have been in them from 6 months - 3 years.
Before you argue with me go in game and click info people for an hour and check how many are NPC corpies of long duration.
Its obvious that these people are never going to or are unlikely to be interested in PvP and like to carebear in safe space and I have zero problem with that at all.
But considering that EvE is arguably the best space game in the galaxy for now, and thats it looks like theres tons of people wanting the experience without the PvP aspect which admittedly can involve immature and nasty interactions, CCP might be losing out by not having a exclusive PvE shard.
Whatdayyathunk? Would you go for a PvE only server rather then PvP if there was one available? The Privateering Life |

Why cant they just stay in High Sec. This is a risk vs reward game you know?
If they've lived there for 3 years they've obviously quite happy there.

You forget that most NPC corp people are likely to be alt scouts.
Besides if they had a PVE only server why would it need to be multiplayer? They would save even more money as a stand alone single player game. And that would not be EVE at all.
All in one is what makes EVE what it is after all. And a segrigation between PVE and PVP makes as much sense as Industrial players vs PVP. ------

It would be X3, I believe.
A PvE shard would never work for EvE, and it'd be a waste of time.
Plus it'd be fun for about a week.

Big Problem - A Purely PVE Shard would have a broken economy - Who would buy ships as very few ships are ever lost to NPC's?

Actually all sell orders would be disabled entirely. Nothing but NPC sales. After all, conquering the market is a PvP activity, pew pew pew noises or no.

Nothing wrong with WoW.
Also dont make assumptions about the success of a PvE only game based on whether you (as a PvP'r) would play it. Theres many more examples of PvE primary games that have superior subscription numbers then EvE.
And this is not a thread for you go come bash me for wanting to play on a PvE only server since I wouldnt play on it myself.

What a curious statement.
<sarcasm warning> If we assume that you wrote 'few weeks' because it was less than a month then we could assume no more than 30 days (probably less). That's 690 hours of game time. That implies that assuming you didn't sleep you were checking 29 bios every hour. That's one every two minutes. If we assume you slept for 30% of the time then it's 43 an hour or one every minute twenty seconds.
You are either prone to exageration or your idea of what constitutes normal game play is badly skewed.
Either way it seems safe to assume you are wrong.

The forums have always told me that PvP is evil, so EVE without PvP must be good. And noone on the forums is too stupid to forsee the inevitable result of that, so it must be HELLA fun.
On TQ I'm always poor because PvP is too much fun, and I'm always spending money. On a PvE server without fun, I could grind for days - I'd be the richest person except for all the other people doing the same thing.

Also to the 'Hardcore PvP'rs' like Exiled One who is (apparently) too scared to post with his main why would you want to keep so many 'WoW'rs' on the server when you have (apparently and disturbingly) so much real life ate for them?

My main is mainly PvE oriented and I hate the idea of a PvE shard. And all those characters in n00b corps really don't mean much, I have two accounts, so 6 characters, all more or less same age, and 4 of them are in n00b corps, 3 being market checkers and one being my very own FedEx. --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! The only way you could possibly hate a PvE shard is if youre a pirat greifer.
Its a win-win situation - you can make a ton of money and you'll never die. I fail to see any reason that would not be endlessly fun.

I think a lot of people would sign up for it, but I think their "lifespan" in Eve would be pretty short, less then it is now.

<Insert obligatory mindless "Go back to WoW nub" comment here.> Ok, now that we've got that out of the way...
It's hard to say what would happen, but I think it would be a much poorer game for being split in two. (More split than it already is, I mean.)
I don't imagine a purely PvE shard would have much holding power without an enormous content injection. As other people have said, the players provide the content in the current game, love it or hate it. And I think many of those lifelong carebears--even the ones with a ton of misgivings about the harshness of the game--wouldn't stick around for that long if there weren't that hint of danger in the backs of their minds. And having fewer heroes, victims, and profiteers would make the PvP shard a bleak place.
As it stands now, there is at least some intermingling between the different worlds, though it's not what it could be.
Anyway, as far as the original questions go...No, I'd never migrate to a PvE shard. And while I think CCP *might* make some short term money going that direction, I doubt that the investment needed to make it viable would make it worthwhile in the long run. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
