Originally by: Smada So Kieron, can we get a reply to the poster who asked whether we're going to get the 24 hours credited back to our accounts? As the 24 hour DT is entirely beyond our control?
Crediting time back to player accounts seems to have fallen out of favour, which is a bit strange given all the unscheduled DT, lag and general server shenanigans we as players have experienced since the introduction of the "Donkey" code base.
I remember when I was a nublet, crediting back to accounts happened quite regularly.
Does CCP think it's above all that now?
C'mon show a little thanks for all the faith that players have shown EVE.
Yeah I know we all whine and moan, but we PAY for that privilege!
They *are* giving back - they've ordered a bunch of new shiny hardware to speed up your gaming experience. The only reason for the downtime is so that it can be installed. So, they *could* just let the shiny new hardware sit in the closet so that you don't have to worry about 24h credit on your account?
It would be interesting to know when the other 20 nodes will come online, but I'm guessing either they're being cautious putting them in to make sure it doesn't cause havoc (adding nodes may seem as easy as plugging in new boxes, but you know how Mr. Murphy is), or it may even be a physical reason - late shipping? Rack ran out of space? Sooo many possibilities :)
Anywho, the end result ought be be better quality in the game we love, so I'll bite the bullet and find something else worth doing for the year.... errr, month..... errr, daaaay ::shudders::

Hmmm 24 hours off eve, I wonder how drastic the lotion sales across the world will go up in the countdown to nov 1, also I expect the Illicit Holoreal Sites to be seeing more activity, and maybe even crime across the world will increase, perhapse an overall deathrate increase as people try to build there own eve online ship and try to fly it.

Historically, we have given community-wide account credits for significant downtimes, generally when the downtime has gone beyond 2 days. The last few hardware upgrades have been accomplished under time and generally cost in the millions for just the hardware alone. Unless we run into major installation issues that run long beyond the projected 24 hour downtime, we do not plan on crediting accounts this time around.
Oveur's not forgiven us for the last major upgrade, I don't think TomB is going to forgive us for this one.

Oh no, I just realised I am supposed to start cap ship lvl 3 during this extended dt. POSTPONE IT PLEASE! I don't want to wait an extra day to fly my carrier.
*Actually if you could add a skill queue before then that would be acceptable too.* _______

I see in Oveur's post 60 nodes (30 servers), yet this one mentions only 10 (so I assume 5 servers). Are the other nodes going to go live with Kali?
http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=387
Originally by: Oveur Not only that, we're always ordering something new and we don't always mention everything - but it's days like today which are fun to mention, because we have some big batches of hardware coming from IBM over the next months, resulting in more than 30 servers being added to Tranquility (that's 60 more nodes).
That's the only question I have, other then that new nodes sound great!

The node going down last night was a bit annoying. Especially considering that my corp destroyed one of the enemy's ships and it came back after the server reboot..

My guess is that the new Ramsan is what will be the big time consumer for the switch. That thing is going to be holding a big chunk of the total database, so it not only has to be phyisically installed, but also configured and have the data transferred in from the older drives.
I shudder when I think of how much data will have to be moved over, and that is all dependant on the output capacity of the OLD drives.

You want a whole 50 cents credit? Wittle baby is bwoke?
I don't get people like you. In World of Warcraft I got days accredited to my account for excesive downtime all the time. A normal patch day in EVE-ONLINE would net me a free day in WoW. In City of Heroes I got that too. Heck in Guild Wars, they don't even take down the servers for patching, the game is patched while you play!
If my internet access goes down for a day or two, I call them up and ask for them to change my bill to reflect that and they do. So why, oh why is it so bad to ask for what I am entitled to. I am pretty sure that when I pay to play EVE-ONLINE I am paying to play the game.
I can handle weekly maintenance and patches every so often, but a full day of no access which can easily mean 2 days with bad lag and post patch problems? No, I think it is *very reasonable* to ask for time added back.
The EULA talks about maintenance, software deployment and emergency failures. But downtime to add in new hardware which should've been added months (maybe even years) ago? Errr, no I think you could easily agrue that is a breach of service and compensation is well in order.
It's not a matter of 50 cents, it's a matter of being fair to your subscribers.

How about little game cost (20$ +30days of inital gametime) and free expansions?

Adding a bunch of new hardware isn't maintenace? To me that is maintenance of the most important part.

I think the birthday point is valid. CCP should always schedule extended downtimes on days when none of the players have a birthday. Problem solved.

c'mon guys, if you can't live for 24 hours without eve, a FORCED break is actually just what you need... Also I don't understand why people would be playing eve on their birthday? no party planned? no happenings in the pipeline? no friends? Anyhow, the thought makes the hair stand up at the back of my neck...

kieron, the extended DT is starting at 10 GMT on Nov 1st (lasting 24h, so until 10 GMT on Nov 2nd), if I understood correctly? Asking because I'm not entirely sure if I understood the timing correctly and would like to avoid losing training time (currently no really long skills that are worthwhile).

Quite right, Tammarr. While you do not receive reimbursement for short downtimes such as this, you do receive - as Tammarr pointed out - free expansions.
Another point I wanted to add is that CCP is a much smaller company than Vivendi/Blizzard, with far shallower (or more shallow?) pockets. If they credited the day than the opportunity cost of upgrading hardware would really jump.

Oh bloody wonderful not.
I'm away until late evening on the 31st October with only limited (next two hours) net connection... planned to spend the 1st playing Eve as I'll be at home rather than in work. :(
Oh well hope the upgrade goes smoothly and the new nodes deliver the hoped for performance gains...
