Edited by: Sakura Nihil on 10/11/2006 14:00:16 I've said this in my alliance forums, but Goons + motivation + equipment and skills could be a serious headache .
Not to mention when combined with login traps and RA's logoffski tactics, its even worse to try and survive respectively.

I dont really care whether this is an LV alt or some bitter ex-goon, all the stuff being posted on here from the goonfleet forums is stuff not from the private directors forum, but from the general discussion forum and therefore not a secret.
BoB like most other major alliances in the game reads the goon forums this thread is from. They already know. They not going to come and save you SoCo, they hate weak alliances.

Is it really that suprising that an alliance their size has people training into dreads?
Why do you assume they are planing on invading ASCN? Sound like another "OH GOD BoB/ASCN HELP US!" post from an obvious ALT.

At the time of our last attack on Goons, they had no assets, and nothing to defend. Looks like second time around they may actually fight, instead of logging on alts in empire. Assuming they trained for capital ships for something other than bragging rights.

There really wasn't much of a choice and you kind of have BoB and the earlier reaction of the folks they(GS/RA) are now stomping to thank for that. In that "help help please hit BoB" thread it was said best (to ASCN):

Am I the only one that finds it ironic, that if ASCN helped the goons against BoB earlier, and didnt just join the bandwagon and reset standings to 0 [or in axe's case, fight a prolong empire war vs the goons] - they could be helping you now.... or even better, this war may not even have happened!
You guys are getting what you deserve.

RA is the only alliance in the game to be afraid of no one, since pretty much everyone else is scared to death when they hear the name "BoB", option were limited for Goon, beside RA knows when they see a good ally, so it was meant to happen.

Every alliance in the game can make a list like that... Some can make a list a lot longer... Yes im assuming thats a list of people who can FLY the ship not use it.. Why? because its logical to assume their being optamistic about their dread numbers.
By the time march comes around 50% of the people on that will be able to fly a dread (most will get side tracked with other things or simply not have the money for the skills). Less than 50% will be able to fly it effectivly (skill trainign time and money)as well as have a ship in their hanger (Money). Thats a realistic assesment.

Yea, neither, so you dont know what the list actually is
My educated(?) guess is that it's an estimate for when they will have trained the dreadnought plus certain support skills.
Why? Take a look at the number of months this goes out. It starts in September and goes all the way to March. That's seven months of training time, plus whatever skills the characters already have. Characters who have already been training up battleship skills are likely to have many of the prerequisites for the dreadnought.
But if you trained directly for dreadnought, the required skills are actually not that time-consuming in the big picture--they're time-consuming because most people want to get lots of other ship skills (any kind of elite frigate, HAC, etc.) that set the time back.
Dreadnought alone? Assuming high perception/willpower skills, you're looking at the main ones being racial Battleship V, Advanced Spaceship Command V, Large (Weapon) V. This along with some lesser V's for jump drive (Warp Op, Navigation, Science).
That's, what, around five months?
But this list includes seven months of training at least. Now, maybe those March people are including training time for other things they want to train in the meantime, but based on the size of GoonSwarm and the relatively small number of people on the list, it looks like these are people who specifically are training for dreads right now. So the timing doesn't make sense.
But if you add certain support skills, namely siege mode (Advanced Weapons Upgrades V), that's at least another two months. Bringing us to seven months, and now the list begins to make more sense.
My guess is these are pilots training directly to dreadnought with siege mode capability, with the March people being those who are just now going down the path.
Having a dread fleet of that size would be useful in launching simultaneous lightning attacks. You get a dread fleet of a certain size and of course the large POS will go down, but the more dreads you have, the faster you can do it and the more POS's you can knock down in less time. Have enough dreads and you can launch attacks in multiple systems at once.
I don't think those dread pilots will have max'd their jump drive skills or tanking skills, but if the GoonSwarm can lock down the systems with their support fleet, they should keep the dreads pretty safe, especially if the large volume of dreads makes the POS-smashing take less time. |

Sadly a superweapon will barely scratch a dreadnaught. There's a video of Cyvok using his superweapon with a naglfar next to the weapon, that naglfar happens to be me and I was, for the most part, unscathed.
Now using a cyno to foward deploy a bunch of ships onto a dreadnaught gang, that could be quite fun indeed.

The big deal is that lv's spies have no good material so they re-post random threads from goonfleet.com. Take that goonies! Owned! Haha yes we inflicted no damage and didn't steal anything or whatever, but owned!

There is so much stupidity going around when people talk about goons it's amazing.
I seriously wonder how most of the anti-goon guys can hold 0.0 space, do you not realise that behind the shell of 1.000 newbie frigate pilotes, there may be 2.000 guys with a clue, behind this 500 guys with battleships, sp and brains?
It's going to be fun watch goons slaughter elitist alliances in the future, look at LV, even in their hour of defeat they smack goons for being ****.

One of the biggest alliances in Eve-online have pilotes who will be dread ready in a while.
Clearly, this deserves a topic, clearly we should all prance around like idiots and go "omg omg omg goon lololol goon lolololol omg omg omg goon lololol" while they keep proving that they arent actually as pathetic as people would like for them to be.
Heres some intel for y'all: Stick 3.000 random people together, and you'll find a few hundred -good- apples, the quality players will invite their quality friends and aid the newbies and soon enough you have a crop of fine apples.
Or, omg bees.

Eh, what is the big deal about this? Even if they have a few dozen pilots that are dread-capable, it is a much harder prospect to ask these pilots to sacrifice the time and money to field their own dreads. GoonSwarm is hardly a rich alliance and even if the alliance paid for the dreads and kit- losing one or two would put them in a world of hurt.

Maybe it's someone of the goon-fanclub, maybe a goon himself, maybe a coalition spy.
In fact, the fan boys and 'anti-fans' usually care most about such things. They live from the success of the team they admire and the failure of the team they dislike. 'live from' = they think that success and failure of these parties is directly connected to their own p33n-size. Quite strange.

I for one am astounded by this massive undertaking and I wish them all the very best and considering the amount of players that Goonswarm field at any one time, anyone on the wrong side of the Goonies are in for a seriously bumpy ride.
There is some big talk in this thread and to those that are attempting to smack in this channel are a distinct liability to their Corp/Alliance as I am sure the Goonswarm read the forums too.
To you guys I tip my hat for you are surely braver than I and to the Goonswarm I devote a hearty round of applause! an organization with balls of steel, lets hope we see that dread fleet operational in a system not too near me :p

I agree. Can't really say the node crashes have been a smooth ride. Now, tell me something; what purpose does 150 T1 frigs and cruisers serve against 150 T2 bs? What can you achieve by that, except lag? And no, node crashes don't count. It's actually quite ******* boring shooting something that doesn't shoot back, and exists only to die and create a can. So let me get this straight, if you are fighting a superiorly skilled opponent you should quit the field of battle because otherwise all you're doing is creating lag. You are a credit to this game and a credit to your corporation and alliance with that attitude. I'm beginning to hope Goonswarm wipe you from the face of Eve before BoB get to them.

Two things Halca.
1. Do us all a favor, and leave V and LV outa your BoB rants. Comments from the sidelines of a conflict are inevitable....but pointless, ranting drivel should be avoided, mmkay?.
2. No, you shouldn't quit the field of battle. But you should make sure that everything you bring to the fight is useful. Those frigs were not useful in that way.
Now, might I suggest that instead of sitting on the sidelines being a cheerleader (btw, could you shave those legs if ur gonna wear a skirt?), why don't you come on down? The party is gettin' a little full, but I'll leave your name with the bouncer at the door, and if you treat'im nice, maybe he'll let you in

It's great to plan, but plans don't always go the way they should. For the Goons to have this kind of firepower by March relies on some key assumprions:
1, That all the players in the plan will still be active and in-game by march, people often quit or are dragged away by RL. 2, That all the players have accurately found the skill set needed to fly a dread. I started training for one thinking I'd be in one within 6 months. After 4months it became clear that the support skills were going to take much, much longer. 3, The all the players will be staying with the alliance, people often get bored and move.
It's nice to plan though, good luck with pulling it off.

Actually this is quite funny. If you are in the mood to score some kills on the board, you just join a 'wolfpack' gang these days, fly to goons new home areas and have a lot of fun, at least with those, who don't master the high art of logging off yet. I'm not a friend of pos warfare, but that side is really cool.

This rant of goons only flying t1 frigs is getting kinda old. Thier fleets/gangs often contain a wide mix of ships. Some t1 frigs (few), a bulk of t1 cruisers with the odd t2 gear on, some BS also with the a few t2 bits equipped, and a few t2 ships like ceptors/AF/HAC/recon.

That,s pretty impressive if you think about it, almost 10 dreads per month if they can build them. Thats a nice industrial backone. if it's in house the means they can replace up to 10 lost dreads a month. Or they can use the minerals to produce a lot of isk for tech 2 bpo's. All in all, even with a 50% completion rate on the dreds thats almost 5 billion per month in ships to sell I wish them the best of luck.

The simple fact of this post is to be honest irrelevant.
The goons will have lots of dread pilots over the next couple of months.... wow.
You need to realize however, that in four months, the average battleship pilot can train about 90% of the required skills for a dread. Not counting those that already can. In four mmonths, the goons may have thirty dreads, their enemies will likely have fifty.
On top of all that you need to be able to provide these pilots with said dreads, and fittings and skills, at around or over 2 billion isk each, which is not a simple process.
and there is also something to be said for combat experience. The first time the goons bring out a big dread fleet might also be the first time the loose a big dread fleet.
One of the incredibly powerful elements of goonfleet has always been their low-end setups. a rifter or a thorax only costs a few dollars yet is moderatly effective at the roles you set it in. A dread or even a battleship, is a much more substantial loss, especially when you factor in tech II equipment.
This post seems wholly un-necessary as it does not do anything from either side. Im sure LV has a nice list of pilots training for capitals as well, at least we dont have to see it however. -

This is not entirely true, they do have some experience to fall back upon: such as that of KIA, who worked for them, and hence gave them some idea how to use dreads and protect them. Then of course they have Red Alliance to help as well, with even richer experience using dreads. ------------------ Its great being a Gallente blasterpilot, aint it? Save Tranquility! |

Basically the RUMOR (Read : Rumor, I have no proof) is that they are with an affiliate selling GTCs through their site to alliance members. They use the money generated through this to buy more GTCs which they sell. End result is that each goonie still pays his 15$ a month for access (sometimes less for EU) while the alliance gets billions of isk on the side.

So they sell to their own alliance, and that gains the alliance billions of isk? er... You can't get your 30 days access & your isk. Its one or the other for the $15. If they're making billions of isk, as well as receiving $$, then the gtcs are being sold, and subscriptions *also* being paid for. -------------------------------------

Yes, you can.
First you sign up with a GTC distributor to be an affiliate. This nets you a small percentage of the real-life money people pay for a GTC. This money is pooled to buy GTCs that are then sold for isk.

I reckon some megacorp like BIG should start up a big bet surrounding this. Perhaps something along the lines of guessing how many dreads BoB will pop in the first week of the war .
I'm sure BoB are excited over the prospect of so many big targets to kill (after all I'm sure it must get boring slaughtering ASCN's fleets so easily).

If anyone is ever beginning to take the Goons seriously, all one needs to do is look at the "destroyed items" of a BS kill and get an idea of how they set up their ships. Any confidence in them quickly fades.
About all the Goons can do well is catch people off guard and beat them 100 vs. 1 in the odd event that someone jumps into them. Otherwise they die (in great numbers) or log off at the first sign of danger.
As for Goons having 20 million skill points, I'm guessing most of them will have moved onto other organizations/games by that point because their style of play can't be gratifying in any way. Unless they really are only as intelligent as bees. I'm sure bees never question their meaningless lives or ponder whether stinging a threat, and thus killing themselves, is "worth it."

Haven't the goons been fighting pretty much non stop since their war with D2 in XZH back in June or July? Seems to me that they probably have alot more experience than alot of the "elite" alliances out there by now. I find it funny how we constantly see pilots from LV talk of "pwning" the goons left and right and yet it is only the southern coalition that is losing POSes by the handful every week.
I think these two alliances are playing differant games. The goons obviously don't care about kill/death ratios and are more concerned with objectives and end results, whereas LV considers said statistics the be all end all of the conflict. LV you may win many of the battles but I have some news for you. It really appears that you are losing the war.

I don't get involved in any of the POS business but I will say that if "winning the war" requires me to use Goon tactics, being a meatshield and blobbing to shoot at a POS for hours, then personally, I'd rather "lose the war." I'm working out of a system where sovereignty does not matter and I really am enjoying slaughtering Goons/RA left and right. If you call actually enjoying the game "losing," then I'll "lose" any day of the week. And in theory, since POS-wars are meaningless to me, and I do a lot of solo/small group fighting and that IS Eve to me, I can never lose as long as I have ISK. And I have a lot of ISK. At the rate which RA/Goon destorys my ships (they do not) I'll be able to fight them forever.

via Shattered Crystal. Just go to their website the link is right there. IIRC goonfleet was bringing in several billions a month when they first started the program. It's reasonable to assume that it is bringing in significantly more now.
Heldane: the war has pretty much stabilized at the current boundaries now that RA has the task of digging out alliances from systems that are actually competently defended.

Congratulations, in your illustrious eve career you've racked up a mightly 18 GF kills (no final blows). I've killed more in a single op for not aligning or focus firing.

1) I've only been back playing for a few weeks after several months off. 2) I don't know what you're talking about not having any final blows on RA/Goons. This simply isn't true. 3) My PvP time is limited to weekends. So most of my kills come from the three or so ops I have been on since I've been back.

I was rooting for the coalition at the beginning of this conflict. Unfortunately all the board warrioring and smack talk from them has made me more of a nuetral observer. LV would be better served by following the goon's example and shutting up on the forums. The chest beating is a little ridiculous especially when in one post you proudly proclaim how awesome you are and how you are killing your enemies in droves and in the next you say it is a stalemate.
Killing dozens goons is nothing to brag about. They often lose ships on purpose from all appearances. Start taking back some of the space you've lost THEN come talk about it if you must, but really you guys have become as bad as BoB of late, worse really because BoB actually wins the wars they get into. I've taken some time to observe your killboard and to be honest I was not really impressed. The stations and assetts you have lost far supercede anything the reds and the goons have lost.

Oh, suddenly you're interested. What happened to the "no proof!" "STFU" & all the tough-talk?
Anyway, it was obvious they got the cash infusion from somewhere, having gone from rags to 60+dreads, skills & mods within weeks, don't you think?
Also, I don't feel the GTC plan is wrong in any way. However, as they say, "Easy come, easy go." |

Edited by: Sneetches on 27/11/2006 22:45:29 I for one hope this is true. Hopefully this will lead to cap ship fights and a new level of fleet combat.
The are a couple problems to having a cap ship fleet that size though wich is logistics. It takes a large, dedicated, and very serious logisitics force to support a fleet that size.
Smack aside, no one really underestimates goon potential, but nor do we overestimate it. They die by the bucket full without RA's help and that hasn't changed. On their own, they would be formidable, but also formidable would be their own ability (or inability) to focus fire, organize fleets past a mindless blob, and hold space on their own.
They have alot of miletsones to pass before they've earned the distinction of being "alliance kllers" like some of the fanboyz state.
Meanwhile, bring on the dreads. Should be a hoot.
