Hello everyone! Thanks for the smooth update CCP. Revelations FTW!
High Slots
200mm Prototype Rail Gun 200mm Prototype Rail Gun 200mm Prototype Rail Gun 200mm Prototype Rail Gun Drone Link Augmenter Tractor Beam
Med Slots
10MN Afterburner II Web (best named) Cap Recharger (II or best named) Cap Recharger (II or best named) Cap Recharger (II or best named)
Low Slots
Medium Armor Rep II Medium Armor Rep II EANM II EANM II Active Thermal Hardener II Active Kinetic Hardener II
Drones
5x Rat Specific Heavy II or 3x Heavy II & 5 Medium II
This should be pretty solid for any lvl 3 mission and some lvl 4s. I havenĘt tested it, so not sure how well it works. You can switch out the EANMs and replace them with additional active hardeners, but I prefer to have the additional % to EM and Explosive resists (personal preference)

Edited by: Heelay Ashrum on 29/11/2006 13:39:14 not cheched since now, but: 1) if u fit 5 light drones u dont need the webber. IMHO it's worthwaste 25M3 drone bay to be able to kill all frigs and cruisers ( with ship bonus, the light drones T2 kill npc cruisers, just fine).
2) why hybryd weapons? u have not bonus un hybrys dammage, so use projectiles. No cap usage & easier to fit.
imho it's better have 5 light drones and 4 havies.

1. Most the time heavy drones don't have problems killing NPC frigs. The only problem with heavies is you don't have any replacements, so you need to make sure none of them get killed.
2. I'm using hybrids because that's what I have my skills in. It's not like they're using that much cap anyway.

gallente players generally have better hybrid skills. however i do agree that autocannons or artillary might be quite a funky option for this ship.

Yeah, for PvP I would drop the rails and replace with blasters. The drone link and tractor would be replaced with med nos. The 3 CRs would be replaced with 1 WCS and 2 remote dampeners. The lows would be 1 MAR II, 2 EANM II, 2 MFS and maybe a damage control. I just love the slot layout on this ship. Many, many different setup options.

Nice..but I think it would be cool to go for the long range with those Dampeners. Maybe throw on some howitzers like someone above mentioned. Then keep that drone link aug., sit back at the howitsers optimom range with the dampeners going and the drones punding away. Would be a nice setup, untill someone got close that is lol

Yup, you can use dampeners that way. I was doing a 180 and thinking of using them for other reasons. I like forcing the enemy closer so I can use my blasters. Also, the dampeners help increase the targeting time it takes the enemy to lock you AND your drones.
I completely forgot about rigs. How would rigs change the build for missions/ratting? Would you add damage mods, PG mods and fit larger guns, etc.

Good news is it will only take me a day to train up to get me one of these things.....now quick someone give me a bpc lol. I heard from some poeple last night that were on much longer than me after Rev went live that later on some of the new Tier 2 BC's went out for sale but for like 70 million...ouch
But ya due to the well round slots on this ship, I can see their being alota different setups out there.

So, I just picked up one of these beauties for far too much ISK, and I'm having a hell of a time choosing what to go with for the high slots. There's just so many options available.
I could go with a full wrack of medium NOS' bar 1 slot for a Drone link, but the extra damage from some turrets would be great for grinding out missions, but then there's the matter of which turrets compliment the drones the best.

There are some exceptions. I have hi drone skills but still medium ( not hravy: medium) drones have problems to kill some frigs.
For example the "serpentis veteran", but there are other examples. If even medium T2 rones cant hit them, i'm all for lights, expecially becaure those frigs are exactly who web/scramle u.

Tested this setup on lvl 3 rogue drones yesterday, haven't tested it more yet.
Highs: 5x250mm rails (need Electronics IV for the last rail, training atm) Drone link Enhancer
Meds: AB Web Target painter 2xcap recharger
Lows: Medium repper DC 4 hardeners of choice, perhaps a combination of passive and active, needs more testing
Truth be told, the drones never reached my armour, so I don't know how well it runs cap wise. I put in 5 heavies just to try them, but for lvl 3s I might choose 10 meds and 5 lights instead.
I use a dedicated loot ship, so don't bother with tractor on the mission runner.
I have skills in hybrids, so that is what I fit.
Btw, why do people always mention t2 equipment or the name of the module? I assume people will always fit the best they can afford/have the skills for, so why bother? Unless of course a specific module is needed to be able to fit it...

As someone already mentioned...these Tier 2 BC are going to cost just as much as most Tier 1 BS, at least for quite some time. And this ship is so much cooler looking than the Domi I wouldn't spend this much on my pvp ships, but for NPC killing, I like to go overboard

T2 equipment have higher requirements, so often u simply cant'fit them. Sometimes u have to drop t2 items in favout of "best named" ( t1 requirement). Giving T2 setup means that this ship can be fitted ( ovbiusly if u have skill to use them).

Yeah, ok, I see that
Btw, I also found out that since 250mm Prototype I Gauss guns have quite lower cpu need than even the 250mm Compressed Coil Gun, this setup works, even with only electronics lvl 3 and weapons upgrade lvl 2:
Highs: 5x250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun Drone link Enhancer
Meds: AB Web Target painter 2xcap recharger
Lows: Medium repper DC 4 hardeners of choice, active or passive

Highs 4 425ACs, 2 Med Nos Meds 1 AB, 1 Webber, 3 Cap Rechargers Lows 2 med reps, 2 EAN II, 2 specific hardeners
With the nos going you can run both reps for about forever, and the guns don't eat up your cap. Rather not use cap then not carry ammo to be honest. ________________________________________ <("<) <('')> (>")>

I've found that with warp to 0, and because I mainly rely on the drones, there is actually little need for the AB. I currently test a setup where the AB is replaced by a medium cap battery, together with 2 rechargers. Can run all modules virtually forever with that...

I am currently flying this dream of a boat with the following setup:
High: 5x 250mm proto gauss 1x Drone link Mid: All cap rechargers Low: 2x MAR's 1x Power coil (-shield, +cap rech) 3x Rat specific hardeners
Works out very well on missions, and can run everything for quite some time. I ALWAYS load up 3 heavies and 5 medium. The mediums tear through any frigate with ease, and the heavies are excellent for big guys. I love the drone damage bonus.
Though, reading here, I might indeed lose some guns for nosses, and replace my rechargers for something more interesting, like an afterburner. I'm not going to fit a web, since I don't need it. When I can't hit, my drones do a very decent job (BC skill 4, interfacing 4). I just bash the big guys, then take in the heavies and throw out 5 mediums and just wait a while to enjoy the fireworks. Maybe some ecm will be nice, but I can't use any of that stuff with my 5m skillpoints... Yet :)
Anyhow, you will never ever be dissappointed in this extremely versatile ship. Endless options, and good with drones. What more could one wish for? :)

My mission Myrmidon,
5 250m rails, spend for goods ones as desired. 1 Drone Link Augmentor
1 AB 4 Cap Rechargers
1 MARII 2 Active Armor Hardeners 1 Dammage Control 1 Magnetic Stab (or whatever the rail dammage mod is called) Last slot either another Active Hardener if i need a thrid resist, or a EANM if the rats just do two dammage types.
5 light and 4 heavy drones, rat specific.
With good cap skills and a good BC skill for the Armor repairer bonus this tanks like a mad fiend and never runs out of cap. Did the Blockade in it the other day. The first wave made me a bit nervous, the others never made significant progess against my armor. Fun to fly as well.

5x720mm t2 artils 1xsalvager
10mwd, med shield booster t2, 2xcap rechargers, target painter
2xt2 reactor control units 2x eanm's and med armour rep and a stabiliser that gives me an extra 10% rate of fire I forget the name
also a mix of light & med. drones (currently training for t2's)
I very rarely get below my shields on this and if I do I never go very far into my armor.
My max hit is in the 800's and I very rarely miss!

with good cap skills you can get away with with
Highs - tractors & slavagers & drone links, probably want 3 t2 small guns here to take care of frigates and small ships
Mids - 100mn AB2, Cap Rechagers (f-b10 or better)
Lows - MAR2, 4 t2 hardeners, CPR
runs forever... with BC4/5 it can tank anything it needs to

I am a BC freak with lots of l4 solo experience. The only weak point is: needs more time compared to a BS but you will have loads of thrilling fun especially when you use some 20-50 Million fittings *;-)
I did most l4's in a Brutix with 8.5 Million SP. The Myrmidon is making l4 run easier. With a specific Hardener / Repper Setup for the mish you have to run it's some kind of t1 BC supertank. Skills rules!
My actual setup [l4 prooved - also harder ones solo]:
5x 250mm Proto's [Antimatter (close) / Plutoium (mid) / Iron (long range)] 1x Drone Link Augmentor [engage at 60km]
ABII // 3x Cap Recharger II // Fleeting Prop Inhib [90% webbing]
'Meditation' Medium Armor Repper [ROCKS!!!] // Hardener II Setup adjusted for specific mish
5x Heavy Drones [no t2 yet - the t1 with actual skills eat BS with ease due BC Level 4]
As I said: l4 run in my Brutix was possible if you work out special mid/low combat tactics and staying mostly in save distance first to prevent too much heavy agro and dps.
With the Myrmidon l4 run is a new experience. This ship tanks even hard DPS. The Meditation Repper is a must for that. My major tactics are: pulling a spawn at 60km and sending out Drones to intercept the first wave. Then I go on close combat by ABII and take out the rest with Proto Antimatter fire and Webber Support. I am looking forward to t2 Heavies. Even the t1's are strong to eat the big BS in a good schedule. BC bonus rules.
With double t2 Hardeners and passive t2 Hardeners combinations I can balance the Therm/Kin resistance between 80% and 93%. The repper cycle and HP repair is perfect. With this experience I am able to camp the not too brutal DPS l4's. Mordus Head******* is also possible when staying in action all the time.
I can just recommend the Myrmidon. It's a strong Manga-style, cool looking, agile and flexible mish runner in the hands of a wise and fearless pilot.
Looking forward to Armor Rigs!!!
Fly strong skilled and may your DNA be with you!

This looks surprisingly cool, and I found out that even I could run everything forever on that setup with my skills (still can't afford a Myrmidon or all of the T2 equipment you mentioned though). It looks cool especially because I hate wandering around at slug speeds to loot everything, it uses almost no ammo and looks like it could tank a lot of DPS. How's the top speed with a 100mn AB2? How bad is the mass addition? Could you post a comparative analysis of the benefits of a 100mn AB compared to a 10mn AB? Thanks for your information.

I have a slightly different build. I use 6 artillery pieces, 2 each set for optimals of 10km/25km/35km. AB and 2 cap recharge II's but I also use an Omni tracking link and a regular tracking link. The lows are a MAR II and a combo of hardeners and membranes for an overall even tank. I use 3 curator sentries and 5 mission specific t2 mediums.
This works very well in lvl 3 missions and with more t2 skills and if I bothered to tailor my tank for missions, I could push into level 4's I think. I'm waiting for CCP to reverse the last drone lobotomy before I try that. the t2 meds have no problems with any of the rat frigs, even the tacklers. I'll swap out the tracking link when cap becomes an issue. I'll keep using sentries as long as rats keep flying in straight lines but as long as my heavy drones keep behaving like Cranked up Corgis , I'll stick to lvl 3's with the Myrmidon. I love this ship.

Drones: 4 Heavies (type depends on mission) (* Tank setup depends on the mission)
When doing missions with alot of drones, i switch to 3-4 smartbombs, and loose the dronelink and the NOS. Agress everything, and let it come close (within 4000 meters). Activate smartbombs, and voila, mission done. Not seen the drones get thru my shields yet
This setup can run the repper almost forerver, and it has no problem handling the level 3 Angel extravaganze mission. (exept the bonus room - Auch...)
The blasters are there to take out anything close to my ship, while the drones take out larger ships, further out.
Pretty much what i have to contribute with...

I've been running lvl4s in a Myrmidon. Here's my setup:
6x 150s ab, web, 2x cap rechargers, cap booster 2x mar, 4x hardeners 5x ogres
Everything's tech2 except for the drones. Don't waste tech2 drones on missions. I've lost quite a few ogres since the NPCs switch targets occasionally. OgreIs are only 50k.

Lads yer got to think Gallente
for missions lev 3( shes a good ship) better than the brut buy far(got more speed and alot more tank). i cant see many doing a hard level 4 in a bc i dont care what yer say so give the new lads ago and dont make em think its easy cause its not. As far as using a bs well there just slow cause yer cant get to the loot fast( salvage is such a pain but its worth it ) so you can get the mission done and get a new one going.
So i set like this.
high -
200mm and 1 x salvage fit a couple of 250 on if yer can to get into the rats early and swap the ammo as they get close.
ammo - iridium for longish and trusty em for close. but dont waist yer ammo ( drones are where its at) ) on a longer lev3 mission carry about 1000 of both to be safe .
mids WEB is fine case it makes yer drones and guns hurt the rats better.
3 cap chargers ( or 2 and a med capacitor)
Afterburner ( yer cant use a mwd in dead space)and the speed will do to get away from bigger rats)
Lows -
gall missions get alot of caldari missions so as a rule fit a kinetic 32%, thermal 32%, explosive 32% med rep t2 if yer can well yer should be able if yer in the dam ship and a (800 plate) or a magenetic field stabalizer the mag stab is good for damage and with this set up with avergae cap skills should keep yer in the fight.
Way to think is if yer med rep cant rep the damage out yer should be looking for the EXIT.
Now drones i use t2 meds all the time there not to slow and will kill anything that comes at yer fast i use gall drones but an em in the mix would do ok imo just to kill the shields faster.
Your drones are your life so look after them get the agro get targeted and when the targets get to about 30 km let em out sit back and watch the show.
If you see ones getting hit( you will have yer drones in space open ) call him back he will rep instant shields and then shove him back out.
Yer drones do all the work and will out fight any guns yer can find so train drones till it hurts.
Some of this some may say yer i know but some dont so there yer go .
3 things go fast use drones and tank

High Slots: 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun x 5 Drone Link Augmentation
Medium Slots: Y-S8 Afterburner Drone Navigation Computer Fixed Parallel Link Capacitor Recharger x 3
Low Slots: Medium Armour Repairer II 800mm Steel Plates II Energised Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energised Magnetic Membrane II Energised Thermic Membrane II Energised Reactive Membrane II
Bay: Berserker I x 2 Ogre I x 2 Wasp I x 1
Solid Level 3 mission ship. The T1 drones have serious trouble breaking the tank on Level 4 mission warp-scrambler-drones though. Maybe this is because of my skills (only 2mil SPs in drones, concentrating on gunnery ATM:))

Drop the plate, the myr has enough HP tbh. Go with another armor repairer.
I'd be tempted to go with 2 MAR IIs and 4 rat specific hardeners... (i.e. 2 x active kin and 2 x active therm)
Nano pumps aren't that much to be honest, and sticking two plus a cap rig would be very very nice. I think it might even be possible for the myr to keep 3 MARII's going with nos up top and cap rechargers in mids...
I think you're looking at 1800 armour every 9 seconds with 3 nano pump rigs.

This particular myrmidon setup is tailored for drones and very much made to be ammo-less ratting. Basically warp in the belt turn AB on orbit @ 9km turn on guns on agro launch drones and wait.
Pros: With good skills it can run the AB, guns, MAR non-stop. Does not use ammo. God damn it, it hurts. Qfit calculates @ about 220 dps with my crappy skills (drone interfacing 3 bc 4 heavy drones 1 medium lasers 3 surgical strike 3) in contrast to my raven same crapy-ish skills 150 dps with 2 bcu t2s. Cons: It costs as much as a t2 fitted raven. You need an alt. I come humbly asking advice. I've been running Level 3 missions in my beloved Myrmidon ("Plausible Denial") for a while with great success. In many cases, the NPCs didn't even get through my shields.
Then the other night, disaster struck in the form of a Blockade mission. I think I made a mistake early on, because I got a "pirate reinforcements have arrived" message almost immediately; perhaps I killed the ship that triggers the next wave?
In any case, I found myself in a hailstorm of missiles--they were hitting me nonstop, and my armor was going down rapidly. I warped out, repped and went back in. Same story--I could kill maybe 2-3 ships before I had to run, even though I was running the repper constantly, and never ran out of cap charges. In the end, my poor ship was turned into scrap. (The lag incurred when everything in the room targeteted me simultaneously meant that I couldn't even start to do anything--like turn on my reppers--before my armor was a 50%.
Here's the setup I started out with:
High slots: 5 x 250 MM railguns, Iridium ammo (couldn't figure out what I wanted in the sixth slot, and didn't have enough power to run a sixth gun).
Medium: 1 x Target painter, 1 x webber (for slowing down those nasty frigs that get too close), 1 x cap recharger (I think that's the right name for it--feeds charges to the cap) with size 800 charges, 1 x 10 MN Afterburner II, and one of those aiming devices that increases performance of hybrids.
Low: 1 x Emergency Damage Control, 2 active "Type N" hardeners (type depends on enemies), Med repper II, some gizmo to increase firing rate and damage of my rails, and a Reactor Control II (+15% Energy grid to run all this stuff).
After the first few tries, I started playing around with my low slot configuration. I added a second tech II repper and got rid of the gunnery enhancer. I lasted a bit longer, but not long enough. Again, the problem was that the missiles were simply eating my armor faster than I could rep it.
Truly desperate, I got a third armor repper II, and removed the damage control. Back to the fray...for the last time. Maybe if the lag hadn't happened, three reppers would have made a difference...but somehow, I doubt it.
I am now fitting out the Plausible Denial II. I'm thinking of doubling up on the active hardeners, and am trying to decide whether to install 1 or 2 reppers. From what I've read in this forum, I think I'm going to fit a drone link in the 6th high slot.
I have to be careful with energy--I'm running really close to the limit, even with the 15% enhancement from the reactor control. CPU is no problem--I still have a third of it left. Aside from soliciting general advice, I have a couple of specific questions.
First, about drones: I've been using medium tech I drones (mostly Hammerheads), though I have the skill for tech II. I just can't justify the expense of those babies. Should I reconsider, and spring for the tech II versions? And what about "sentry drones"? How are they different from other drones? Should I be using sentries?
Second, lots of people seem to be filling their medium slots with cap rechargers. Are these the ones that consume charges, or do they just enhance cap recharge time? As I said, I have no problem running out of cap--when I pop in one of those 800s, my cap instantly goes up by a bout a third. Am I missing something here?
Third, could someone please tell me what "EANM" means?
Thank you for your patience.

First off I think you're missing a hardener. Rats have 2 damage types (normally unless you're fighting angels or drones which do about everything) primary (2 hardeners) and secondary 1 hardener. So that should be the least amount of hardeners. I've learned that resistances > HP/s. Try 200mm rails if you can't fit em quite yet. Heavy drones and BC 4 should do it.

Medium Armor Repairer II -- with BC 4 repair systems 5 u're getting 92 hp/s Medium Armor Repairer II N-Type Magnetic Membrane I -- whatever the damage types are. N-Type Reactive Membrane I N-Type Reflective Membrane I Empty Slot -- with this you could go with CPR (capacitor power relay), dcu (damage control) or eanm or even 4th hardener. If you can't fit the stuff above however, fit an RCU. Above fits with AWU 4 (advanced weapon upgrades)

Lets run some numbers shall we?
Considering BC5 is trained....
2x MAR II with cap rigs = 880hp/cycle 1x corpum-a with armor amount rigs = 979hp/cycle
The single faction rep doesn't need cap rigs to run permanently, so armor amount rigs can be used. It also frees up another low slot for more resists.
Then again 2x corpum-a's would be even better. With a few cap rigs to sustain that'd be 1287hp/cycle. That's another 260mil though.

The uber-tank, I haven't had a chance to test this as I don't have ~2bil isk to drop on it but..... Highs: 4x 425mm Scout Autocannons 1x Small Tractor Beam 1x Salvager I
If you have a dedicated loot ship, run with 6 autos.
Meds: 1x 10mn AB II 4x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 2x Centum/Corpum A-Type Medium Armor Repairer 2x Centus X-Type Hardeners for the primary damage type you'll be tanking 1x Centus X-Type Hardener for the Secondary Damage type (I.e. therm on sansha, kin on serp) 1x CPR II
In the Rig Slots: 1x Capacitor Control Circuit 2x Auxiliary Nano Pump II
For a completely stable cap, one of the higher-end officer CPRs should be used in conjunction with one officer cap recharger and 2 t2 cap rechargers. As it is, with just the CPR II/Cap Recharger II, it can hold its tank for 8-9 Minutes if you're not running the AB.
I'm also aware that this isn't an entirely practical setup, as its rather expensive....coming up with this was mainly a project of mine to find the best theoretical PvE tank for the myrmidon. This is, in my opinion, it. Considering what some people spend on CNRs to run lvl 4 missions, i think this may be justified as a cheaper alternative. Tanked for EM/Therm it gets 93.61% EM resists on armor and 76.6% thermal. Kin therm tank: 89.xx% kin, 76.6% therm etc..... And with BC V/Repair Systems V, each of the MARs repairs 926.64 damage/cycle, and a 9 second cycle.

warp as close to the first spawn as you can. start killing ships but leave one of every kind alive at first. then kill the most dangerous one and the new wave should appear at about 80-100 km away from you. do the same again and again and again. that way you wont be swarmed by a bazillion of ships at the same time.

I'm considering trying out a sentry drone sniping setup for missions:
Myrmidon
Drone Link Augmentor I Drone Link Augmentor I Small Tractor Beam I 125mm Railgun II 125mm Railgun II 125mm Railgun II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I 10MN Afterburner II Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
Medium Armor Repairer II Internal Force Field Array I 2x Capacitor Power Relay II Energized Magnetic Membrane II Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Rigs: Sentry Damage Augmentor I Auxiliary Nano Pump I Drone Control Range Augmentor I
5x Warden I
The setup is very tight on CPU - it needs Electronics V, Drones Rigging IV and Weapon Upgrades IV. There's a lot of grid left over; enough to fit a 1600mm plate or a second rep if necessary.
Sentries can only hit targets within your drone control range, and the drone control rig helps with that; the Drone Link Augmentors take up 50tf each. Wardens can hit out to almost 100km with this setup, enough for most missions. Their guns have a sig radius of 400m, so the painter helps with closer ships and is also useful for drawing aggro at long ranges.
The AB and tractor beam are essential time savers and I seldom do missions without them. A possible tactic with this setup would be to draw aggro from everything, deploy the sentries, and orbit them at ~60km or so while they get on with the actual work. The 125mm rails are fairly versatile and can be used to kill off anything that catches up. ------ Top speed calculation spreadsheet - updated for the recent speed nerf Army of doom headcount: 26,045 |

I just recently got a Myrmidon and haven't been too sure how to fit it, especially with my current lack of ISK. So far, this fitting is working for the lev. 2 missions I have.
High 3X Anode Neutron Particle Cannon -Thorium Charge M 1X Medium Plasma Smartbomb 1X Medium Nosferatu 1X Drone Link Augmento
Med 1X Medium Shield Booster 1X Warp Scrambler 1X 'Langour' Drve Disruptor 1X Ship Scanner 1X Passive Targter
Low 1X Medium Armor Repairer 1X Cap. Power Relay 3X Energized Plating for EX, TH, and KI 1X Energized Adaptive Plating
Drones 2X Ogers 2X Praetors 1X Berserker
I like to mess with the med slots on my ships and once I get the ISK, I'll switch out the passive targeter and scanner for a pair of cap recharger 2s. depending on how this works out, I might drop the power relay in favor of a second repairer. I'll have to test it out though.
Criticism is welcome

I'm just curious, for you people that do level 4 missions in a myrm, how long does it take you on average per mission? Seems like a time waster to even bother with it in a BC. Oh, and wouldn't blasters be better then rails? More damage, easier time with frigs, the only bad part is that you have to get up close to the BS and that takes extra time.

Missions go relatively fast, with 4 sentry drones you are doing pretty similar damage to a domi.

I do level 4s in my passive shield tanked Myrmidon. It probably isn't as fast as other options (e.g.: Dominix with its greater assortment of drones), but it happens to fit my play style perfectly. Specifically, I might get interrupted by my kids if they happen to wake up and with the passive setup I have no issues just walking away for however many minutes it takes and not having to worry about warping out... my tank can handle pretty much anything thrown at me even in a level 4 mission as long as I don't aggro everything. The worst that might happen if I'm called away is I might have to recall all my drones, just so they don't wander off and agro something new. :)
I normally carry 4 Ogre IIs, 2 Hammerhead IIs, and 1 Hobgoblin II. It isn't maxed out damage-wise (ie: its not 5 Ogre IIs), but having the 2 hammerheads and the hobgoblin let me feel confident about taking out any small frigates or spider drones that jump me.
My setup can be found by following the link in my sig.

Here's my setup: Hi: 5x 150mm II, 1x Salvager Mid: 10mn AB II, 3x Cap recharger II, 1x langour web Lo: 2x Med Rep II, 1x exp, kin, therm active hardners, 1x EANM II
Rigs: 2xCCC, 1x Aux nano pump
The 2 armour reps will run forever & repair over 900 each cycle with BC 4. Together with the decent all round resists I've not felt the need to fiddle with mission specific setups yet.
I tried blasters but didn't find them very useful, they don't have the range to hit the majority of frigs that sit at 5k+. You may laugh until you've tried it but the 150mm rails have a 30km optimal with spike yet with standard ammo will track normal frigs at any range without a web, just needing the web for inties.
This leaves you free to use 5 heavy drones for cruiser size and bigger. It's also nice not having to micro manage switching drones etc, everything has a clear purpose.
I tried a passive shield setup but didn't like it, I prefer this because you get cap & slots for guns, AB(the biggest plus), web & warping. It has almost the same afk factor anyway because the reps will go forever.

That almost my exact setup. I don't have a salvager though, just 6x150s. Still not sure if salvaging is worth the time. Also I tossed one cap recharger for a booster w/800s, just in case, although I never use it.
For me I calculated out the damage I could do with M sized rails with my skills (no t2 meds)and it was pretty much equivalent, except I couldn't fit 6 meds with the PG.
I'm thinking of tossing the EANM and putting in a Cap Flux Coil (I think that's a low, not at home atm). Not only does it give me its own increase in recharge rate it also drops my overall cap which therefore increases the recharge rate of all my other Cap Rechargers.
I've never had much need for resistance in L3s, the bad dudes almost never get in range. Let my drones take care of the big dudes while my rails pop in incoming frigs.
If I do get in some situation where I just get swarmed though, thats where the booster comes into play. I can pop my 800s and keep both my MARs running damn near forever, although I generally only carry ~4 800s.
For drones its about versatility (although its also almost random/what do I have atm). 1xOgre, 3xWasp, and 1xBerserker. The Berserker is just in case I have to deal with some fast bastard that the others can't keep up with. I don't want to do all Ogres because it takes too long for them to reach the target @ 45km and jumping between targets. That lost time is more detrimental than the difference in damage.
I need to think about rigs though. I went inactive when Rev went up, actually I just came back for this ship. Not sure what I want, probably won't use them (too damned expensive honestly), but with this setup I have tons of PG to spare so I could probably throw something on that eats up PG.

Originally by: WredStorm I do level 4s in my passive shield tanked Myrmidon.
Wred
I used Wred's passive tanked Myrmidon suggestion and I absolutely love it for Level 4 missions. I do have some troubles with Worlds Collide and Extravaganza (third pocket was a little too much), but I haven't tinkered with the setup for those missions to see if I can find anything that can hold up a little better.
High Slot: 5x 650mm Medium Prototype I Siege Cannon (no capacitor usage) with various ammo depending on the rats 1x Drone Link Augmentor I
Mid Slot: 1x V-M15 Braced Multispectral Shield Matrix (will have the skills for T2 Invul Field tonight, which will help) 4x Large Shield Extender II
Low Slot: 5x Shield Power Relay II 1x Power Diagnostic System II
Rigs: 3x Core Defence Field Purger I
Implants: Slot 7: Hardwiring - Zainou 'Gnome' KVA1000 (3% Shield Capacity Bonus) Slot 9: Hardwiring - Zainou 'Gnome' KYA1000 (-3% Shield Recharge Rate Bonus)
All of this gives me 18,696 shields with a 108 second recharge rate, with my related skills at 4 or 5. The only cap being used is the Invulnerability Field, which runs forever, even after cap penalties.
Drones: Various, depending on rats, but I do use Heavies mostly, but it can take a while to kill the faster, close-range frigs when I do, so a mix of Medium T2s or a couple Heavies and Medium T2s should work well.
Missions I've completed so far without warp-outs: Massive Attack, Silence the Informant, Cargo Delivery, Unauthorized Military Presence, Attack of the Drones, Damsel in Distress, The Guristas Spies, The Score, Infiltrated Outpost, Rogue Slave Trader (Part 1 of 2), Downing the Slavers (Part 2 of 2), Right Hand of Zazzmatazz
Like I said, I did have some issues with G. Extravaganza... I made it through pocket 1 and 2 without problems, but when I hit the 3rd pocket and had all of the waves on me, I was unable to kill enough rats before my tank broke. I didn't really think the mission through however, and I think part of it was my fault as I went head-first into it without planning ahead and just started firing blindly in the third pocket. I had to keep recalling drones as the waves came in, slowing down my killing speed and eventually just got overwhelmed and forced to warp out.
I go afk a lot, so it's certainly the perfect setup for me and I highly suggest you try it if you haven't.

Mids:
1 x 10NM AFB 2 x Cap Charger II's 1 x Omnidirectional Link 1 x Drone Navigation Computer
Lows:
1 x MAR II 1 x DC II Either 4 N-Type passive hardners (2x2 if Rats only do two damage types, for omni tank 2 x Amarr Navy EANM's and 2 N-Type passive hardners)
1 x CCC rig
Drones: 8 x Medium, 9 x Light Drones (rat specific)...extra Drones as NPC's do sometimes target your drones, especially new spawns/waves etc (and thats before factoring in lag/disconnects).
Works a treat, so far no issues running any Lv3's, even AE bonus room. Drones rarely get past my shields and on most missions armor never drops below 60%. Cap is rock steady (even with everything on and using AM ammo in the rails it never drops below 45%). After loads of frustration flying Amarr BC's i've finally found a BC i like . Even though i'm planning to upgarde to a Dominix for Lvl4's (and then a Megathron), i'm thinking of training up Projectile's for fitting on my Myrm (quick train Small Projectiles to Lvl3 and Medium to Lvl4), to see how well they would work.

Someone mentioned in chat that passively-tanked battlecruisers were nerfed in the Rev II patch. Can someone describe what was done and whether passive shield tanking is still viable with the Myrmidon?

That seems like that would be a bit rough, especially on any entry that put you too close to the action. Basically you are puttting a Domi setup on a Myrm, but you are lacking the light drones to deal with frigs.
Also, I am curious what kind of range you can hope to get on a 75mm gun. I think at best you can get ~ 40km, although I may be mistaken.

Anyways, I just starting running lvl 4s in my myrm, and its been pretty simple. Granted taking down BSs takes a little whie, but its not that bad. Definitely better than slow boating it in a Domi.

Response to the passive shield tank nerf...They added more CPU req for SPR and the upped the intitial recharge rate from 1200, to 1400. The good news is, the tank still works, as I'm still using it to run missions.

Hi, I'm pretty new, with less than 2m skillpoints at the moment. I've rushed for a myrmidon as it's got six turret slots (so I can mine in it quite effectively) and a boatload more armour than the vexor I was previously using for level 1 missions. I'm now on level two missions and having a blast (for the most part) with this setup:
hi: 4 x salvager I, 2 x tractor beam Mid: Afterburner, cap rechargers Low: two med armour repairers, two 800mm plates, two specific energized plating
Don't have the skills for t2 of anything, or medium railguns, or active hardeners or bigger plates or heavy drones yet. Am thinking of adding a drone link augmentor (having read a few of the setups here) as the 40km limit is a bit annoying in missions when you're surrounded by turrets and stasis towers at 50km, for example.
Are there any other low-skill setups that I should try?

You know you can bookmark mission deadspace and come back to it later with a salvage boat right? Which would allow you to equip a couple of guns and shoot stuff.

First let me say... active hardeners are crucial. I have been very successful with this build and so far have been able to solo every level 3 mission except blockade and the extravaganza's both of which I have yet to receive solo but have easily done duo. The main strategy is for your drones to do all the work while you keep aggro and absorb the damage. Check the kill mission website http://home.broadpark.no/~tijohann/eve/missions/ to see what type of resists you will need for the specific mission you are given. If only two types of damage are dealt you can have about 83 percent resist with the first low slot build. If the mission states all damage types you can use the latter low slot build for a 64 60 70 70 resist. It is very important to use your guns for aggro, not for damage. Be sure to take advantage of the tactical overview tool; it helps tremendously. The key is to find a group, which will usually consist of 4 or 5 ships and stick one gun on each (this is excluding missions which have certain triggers or aggro patterns, be sure to read the other notes on the kill mission website given previously). This aggros them to your ship, even if you miss, thus giving your drones freedom to kill. If you see a drone take even the smallest of damage return it to bay and re-release. One wild card module is the sensor booster I have equipped in mediums. You could stick a target painter or webifier. I went with the sensor booster to utilize the 60 km my drone augmenter gives me (myrmidon innatly is targettin capped at 55 km). As with any build get named if you are able.
---------------------- High: 200mm Railgun I 200mm Railgun I 200mm Railgun I 200mm Railgun I 200mm Railgun I Drone Link Augmenter ---------------------- Med: 10mn Afterburner Sensor Booster Cap Recharger Cap Recharger Cap Recharger ---------------------- Low (for missions with only two resists): 1st damage type specific hardener 1st damage type specific hardener 2nd damage type specific hardener 2nd damage type specific hardener Mdium armor repairer Mdium armor repairer
---OR--- Low (for missions with all damage types): **remember the myrmidon has 60 innate EM resist Explosive hardener Kinetic hardener Thermal hardener Damage control Medium armor repairer Medium armor repairer ---------------------
Drones: 5 X medium scout II's or 5 X heavy I's (read kill mission website for damage to use)
---------------------
As a side note, I highly recommend fitting a dedicated looter for the base you will be working from. A destroyer equipped with 4 tractor beams, 4 salvager, afterburner, cap rechargers, and extended cargohold. It makes things go much faster.

Edited by: Govenor Shran on 05/09/2007 11:02:04 I hardly run missions any more but I use the Myrmidon for running complex's so with one change the setup is prety relevant. Try this out.
5x 250mm Rails (Tech II if you can, prototype if your having fitting pains) 1x Drone Link
1x AB II 3x Cap Recharger II 1x Omnidirectional Tracking link
2x Meditation Medium Reppers 4x Tech II Specific hardeners.
3x CCC rigs.
5x Appropriate Tech II heavy drones.
Just quickly on my calculator I think that will give you 640 DPS tank against kinetic and thermal damage. (BC lvl 4)
Should tank any lvl 3 (lvl 4 aswell if you're careful) and the cap runs forever with both reppers goin. I'm not sure if it will hold with the guns and it wont hold with the AB. With uber cap skills and an implant it may hold with everything running but at that point you would be better to drop a CCC rig for an armor or drone rig and just manage the cap.

My setup is pretty basic but works easily for lvl 3 missions:
Highs: 4x 250mm Prototype gausses (you can prob use base 1 models)
I use Thorium ammo and it lets me hit everything between 10km and 45km effectively.
Mids: 1x Orion Tracking Computer 4x Cap recharger I
Low: 2x Med Armor Rep II's (can use I's) 1x Energized Therm Res. Amp (passive) 1x Energized Ken Res. Amp (passive) 1x Damage Control II 1x 800m Rolled Tungstun Plates
Drones: 5 heavy EM or 5 heavy explosive (they both work really well.)
My strategy is to target the frigs first at 45km away and then shoot and slowly head in the opposite direction and you can take them down as they follow. I just take them out 1 at a time starting with frigs and then working on cruisers last. I can hit the frigs until they get within 10km of me, but then the drones take care of them easy enough and I switch targets. Thats how I do all lvl 3's and it works really well (even when aggroing the all the rats).
Tips: Make sure they have you targeted before letting your drones out so they dont get blown up
Get your scouting drone skill up to 4 so you can use your drones up to 40km without an augmentor. Makes a huge difference.
For salvaging/looting I just make a bookmark at the mission spot. Turn in the mission, then you can warp back to the spot in a destroyer or another good ship for salvaging with a MWD on it. When you come back the area is no longer dead space and you can just loot/salvage at your leisure using the MWD to get around.

Edited by: Het Kwaad on 13/12/2007 02:02:52 My setup with 2.5mil skill pts and not too expensive stuff:

Med 4x F-b10 nominal capacitor regenerator 1x Y-S8 hydrocarbon afterburners
Low N-type explosive hardener N-type kinetic hardener N-type thermic hardener (swap those if needed for mission) Damage control II Overdrive injector system II Medium Armor Repairer II
Drones 5x whatever damage type suits the mission, with some backups. I prefer hammerheads because they work most of the time.
Works nicely for lvl3 missions. If confronted with many enemies at once I fly away from them popping them in order of whatever comes close. With AB most cruisers/BC can be kept at a safe distance and the cap rechargers ensure everything can run long enough for me to either kill enough or get out of range from the heavy hitters. Since enemies tend to be coming toward me in a straight line the railguns hit them pretty good.
For dealing with frigates that spawn close and use webbers (portal to war 2) i am thinking of using a webifier instead of the overdrive injector II and blasters instead of railguns. This still has to be tested in combat though

Edited by: Sephra Star on 22/01/2008 11:22:03 My NEWB set up for the MYRMADON is handling level 3 missions very well and I only have 1.7 million in skill points. All appropriate Gunnery and Drone skills at level 3 except of course the necessary Drone skill at level 5.
High Slots feature x4 medium 650mm arty and x2 small 280mm arty. The small 280's are surprisingly effective against closing frigates.
The Medium Slots feature x4 LSE's (Large Shield Extenders)and an AB which I find essential for maintaining range to keep the arty effective.
The low slots feature x6 Shield Power Relays which totaly nerf my Cap recharge down to nil, but the only thing I need the CAP for is my AB so I never have a problem.
I also have x3 Shield Recharge Purger Rigs.
The setup gives me 14,400 Shield HP with a 150 recharge rate.
I am using x2 Ogres, x2 Hammerheads, and a x1 Hobgoblin for drones which are all tech 1.
The only level 3 I have not tried by myself so far is the Extravagnaza. I asked a friend to help when that came up as I was uncertain of my capabilities at the time. I am fairly sure I could manage it at this point though as long as I am careful, although the Bonus Room with the Battleships would keep me on edge and might not be feasable.

can i ask a general question...
is the tendency towards long range attack, augmented with heavy cap/repper abilities and resist plating because... lvl 3/4 missions are not doable at point blank/blaster range... or not efficient ?
i mean, are these grinding setups or playing setups. i ran a standard destroyer setup with rails for cake walking lvl 1 missions and most lvl 2s... but found it insanely boring.
when i got my cruiser... i did the same thing. outfitted with rails. but quickly switched to a blaster config with thick armor plating... and resists. and all but one lvl 2 mission has still been... cake walk(hard mission was "recon 1 of 3" which you're not even supposed to do. but it was tough and fun...so i did it)
I guess my question is. does anyone run missions in a blaster setup. my thinking was to just adjust my cruiser setup to my Myr's slots. using the increased PG to get more reppers or more armor or whatnot, using the drones to deal with the frig trash...
Highs:
Blasters, probably Neutron or ION (close quarters ammo/max damage lean-to)
Mids:
AB, Web, maybe cap augmenting modules, cap booster
Lows:
thick plates, resist EANMs maybe a cap doo-dad. reppers, i dunno
Drone:
rat specific sort... maybe smaller ones. so the drone bay can also store those interesting little electric warfare and repair type drones too... i dunno.
sitting at 30km+ doing piddly damage while i watch little green stars buzz around my targets isn't my idea of fun.
any opinions on a blaster setup, that will survive missions (even if it's a silly setup, where i'll be nearly dead every time... but always right in the middle of things)

Edited by: Sephra Star on 24/01/2008 11:18:06 I've toyed with the idea of a Blaster set-up myself. It would be great to be able to just aggro everything and not have to worry about keeping range an issue as you would want them to come close.
I am really not sure though just how effective it would be, but I can tell you this. Your comment about sitting at 30K range and doing pidly damage could easily be corrected switching to medium 650mm Artillary as they do uber damage at 30 and down to 18-20 and a little less even. They can actually do pidly damage at 45 range. My small 280mm scout artillary are great at the 8 to 20 range for those frigs that get thru optimal on your 650mm's.
I am commited to the Passive Shield set up due to the three rigs so switching to other than artillary would I think cause serious CAP issues.
My shields rarely lose 20 percent.
Both of us will have much better time efficiency I think when we get to start using the tech 2 drones.
I would like to here someones take on using Blasters with this ship too.

If your tank can hold it, blasters are more efficient. Most rats will get in your face eventually, so if you can pick them off at between 2 and 20 km, you have a far easier time sweeping up the mission afterwards.

I Have been in EVE for only a little over a month now, but thanks to good advice, and countless hours on EFT I have stumbeled across a Myrm Setup that will allow newer players to handle LVL 2's and most LVL 3's with ease. This set-up does require Some tech 2 equipment but only 2 low ranked skills will need to be trained to lvl 4. It only took me a week to get the skills needed for this setup once i decided upon it. The Tech 2 equip and the rigging does make this set up expensive, but the ablility to run higher lvl missions early in your EVE carrer makes this worth the while if you can sc*****together the funds (about 100 mill). Also just using tech 1 equip will still give you a formidable ship, but the rigging is essential.
Passive Sield Tanked Myrm.
Rigs: 3x Core Deffence Field Purger
Low: 5x Tech 2 Sheild Power Relays 1x Tech 2 Power Diagnostic System
Med: 4x Tech 2 Large Sheild Extenders 1x Best Invulndrability Feild Avalible
High: I Recomend Projectile Weapons as your cap recharge rate is going to be crap with this set up, how ever rails will work if you use tem just to agro the NPC's.
Drones: This is were your damage is done and the set up should be mission speicific. If you plan on using this set up, as with most myrm set ups, train your dorne skills till it hurts.
Notes: Mission specific shield hardeners are a good idea. I am currently experimenting with using tem instead If anyone wants to know ow thats going let me know. Also, I am working towards Tech 2 Rigs and Hardeners which should give this set up close to 600 DPS as compared to the 450 it's getting now. This set up's weak point is it's Capacitor, wit just the hardener running the cap should last you 30 min or so, but carefull cap management is a must, exspeacialy if you plan on running rails. Also getting to know your set up is a must, and I strongly suggest to any new player useing this, do not rely on your ship to get you through a mission, exspecialy LVL 3's, the set can handel most lvl 3's when used properly and should give you plenty of time to get away from the ones you cant but you should always be on gaurd to get out if you have too. You wouldnt want to Lose this 100 mil set up just because you wanted to see how close you could cut it before warping out.

This set up works great if your still a NOOB with very limited skills. You can actually run this set up using x3 720mm Artillary and a couple of 180mm Auto Canons and keep all 6 of the low slots with Shield Power Relays instead of just x5 with Power Plant for extra PG as in the below setup. Then there is no need for a 3% Power Grid implant. That was how I used to have it set up and it worked just fine, but I just recently changed it to the below setup in an attempt to improove my DPS as I want to be able to Gang in Level 4 missions with the following set-up.
HIGH: x1 Drone Range Augmentor x5 Scout 720mm Artillary
MID x2 Large Type 2 Shield Extenders X2 TYPE 2 Mission Specific Shield Amplifiers x1 Y-S8 Hydrocarbon AB
LOW x5 Beta Reactor Control Shield Power Relays: These are the same as the Type Two in shield recharge bonus (24%), but you don't need ENERGY GRID UPGADES SKILL LEVEL 4. In addition they use far less CPU, but CPU is really not an issue here as you have just enough to use Tech 2's if you have the level 4 skill. I don't. Tech 2 is actually much cheaper than the T1 Beta, so get the T2's if you can.
x1 Beta Reactor Control: Reaction Control (+10% Power Grid); again it would be better to have a TYPE 2 version with a 15% PG bonus, but that requires a level 5 skill. The only problem with using the Beta is it does not give enough PG for the fit so you will need a 3% PG implant to make it work unless you have ENGINEERING skilled up to level 5.
DRONESx5 Hammerhead Type 2, but plan on using Mission Specific Damage Drones after I get Interfacing to level 4 tomorrow and can train all the other racial specific drone skills to level 2. I like the medium drones much better than heavies because of their speed at moving from target to target and as well to return to the bay quicker when they are in harms way. I don't have Heavy T2 Drones yet anyway.
I only have 2.5 million SP and I am rock solid for level 3 missions solo.
You gotta Love the Damage output of them arty's once you get the hang of using them. Useless at close range, but great at 18 all the way out to 50/60 with the right projectile ammo and all my gunnery skills are only at level 3.
Comments on improoving my CAPless Passive Shield Tank setup would be welcome. I am considering getting some 425mm Auto Canons for missions I know I will be facing Rats that come in at close range although my T2 Hammerheads and the T1 versions before I had T2 are effective enough by themselves to deal with things methodicly. There are only a couple of situations in all the missions where my Shield Tank gets down to 30% if I just sit in one place and let myself get swarmed. I never have to warp out. The AB gives me the Boost I need to get out of the danger range when that happens.
P.S. It should be noted that my very first fit out with this ship included x4 650mm Artillary, but I found out fairly quickly that having just x3 720mm Artillary totaly blows away having x4 650mm in DPS and range. Having all 5 now is totaly awsome. Taking down Structures real fast with Nuclear Ammo with a 40% range bonus is really nice especially when your dealing with MISSILE SENTRIES, ENERGY NEUTRALIZERS, and STASIS WEBIFIERS
I've tried setups using 3 and 4 Large Shield Extender 2's in place of the Shield Field/Amplifiers/Invulnerability Shield for damage specific resistences and my experience is that 2 Shield Extenders is enough and the CAPless Amplifers Type 2 (37.5%) are better than the Active Shield Fields that cost CAP to run. I have also experimented with a Stasis Webifier in Mids, but with my current long range sniper set-up its pretty much useless.
You can actually get buy with just an EM/MAGNETIC and a HEAT/THERMAL Amplifier and never have to switch out anything for any of the missions, but its good to be in the habit of fitting them for mission specific damage I think.

I'm running t2 proj currently with an armor tank and i'm enjoying it thouroughly
Highs.. 5x 220mm or 425mm t2 Auto's normally firing phased or fusion 1x tractor beam, or a 6th turret
Mids.. 3x Cap rechargers 1xAB II 1xweb
Lows..
1x MAR II 2x+2x mission specific active hardeners 1x damage control II
staying stocked up on lites and mediums, i havent been able to fully enjoy heavies yet. i'm not sure why, need to keep skilling up i suppose
15m SP, i just love the versatility of the slots, so many options, but i'm pretty happy with the
Proj/Cap/Armor + dronerapefest
havent got any rigs yet but i'm sure that'll be fun
are sentry drones better than light/medium combat drones?

You're better off flying T2 medium drones out of a Myrm. You can only field 3 sentries due to the bandwidth nerf.
Don't need the DCU II unless you plan on going into structure. Reading up on the mission ahead of time relieves the need to go into structure.
Don't waste your money on rigs for this ship - save them for your BS. They're simply not needed for Level 3 missions.
Webs and AB - Meh. Webs are better if you're using blasters. You're wasting a slot by using a web on this ship, because your drones can kill close frigs, and your rails are ineffective at shorter ranges. Put a drone mod there instead (see my setup).
AB is not usually necessary, but sometimes it can get you out of trouble. I don't ever use one anymore. Use another drone mod. (see my setup)
I'm a drone guy, so my highs are used mainly for aggro and when I'm bored. My rails don't do much except pop the occasional frigate that's flying directly at me.
But I can afk tank EVERY LEVEL 3 MISSION with this setup. I just did so with The Blockade. Armor never dropped below 99%.

Been flying a Myrm for a month now. Started EVE a little over 2 months ago, so my SP is just under 3 million with a little over 800K in drones now. What a difference it does make in DPS getting your drone skills up. I don't call them drones anymore. I call them shredders.
I went with a passive shield tank with x3 Shield Recharge Rigs.
I also got a few implants to buff things up since I did so well on the market. My implants are all +3% to SHIELD RECHARGE, SHIELD HP, and POWER GRID.
In HIGHS x3 720mm Scout Artillary x2 650mm Scout Artillary x1 Drone Range Augmentor
In MIDS : I change it arround periodicly, but my latest fit until I get Engineering 5 for more power grid is...
x2 T-2 Large Shield Extenders x1 T-2 Shield Recharger x2 T-2 Shield Amplifers (either mission specific, or you can just put an EM and a Thermal on and forget about it.)
LOWS: x6 Beta Shield Power Relays. They are the meta 4 T-1 and are the same as the T-2 in recharge rate, but use far less CPU. You can use T-2 just fine and they are actually less expensive.
I am currently flying arround with a SHIELD RECHARGE RATE of 85 as per the Fiting Screen in the game. Easily tanking over 700 per second. The lowest any mission rats have gotten my shields down to was 70% and that was from the 4 Battle Ships in the Bonus Room of the Level 3 Angel Extravaganza.
In short I designed this set-up not just for solo level 3, but for teaming up with a partner in level 4's and as well to maybe hunt Rats and help defend my Corp Mates on low sec mining excursions.
I am only 15 PG away from being able to fit my AB back on.
Truth is having a shield recharge rate at 145 is good enough for level 3's. I could replace one of my Shield Power Relays with a PDU and have more Grid right now if I wanted to. As well I really don't need the Mids Shield Recharger as I would do better with an Invulnerability, but I do think it is nice having a 100% CAPLESS TANK/GANK that is totaly immune to NOS and I plan to put my AB back on anyway and maybe get a T-2 Invulnerability for the level 4 missions.
In fact the best tankable setup using the EFT suggests x3 Extenders and x2 Invulnerability's, but Invulnerability Shields do use CAP.

I love my shield Myrmidon:
High Slots:
6x 650mm Artillery (or focused beams or anything else you fancy)
Med Slots:
2x Cap Recharger II 1x Large Shield Booster II 2x Invulnerability Field (or specific hardeners if you're not as lazy as I am)
Low Slots:
3x Gyrostabilizer II (Or Heat Sinks or whatever) 3x Capacitor Power Relay II
Drones:
T2 Mediums Had two batches of a EM/Therm and Kin/Expl mix on board and a armor bot for field repairs of drones.
Rigs:
Capacitor Control Unit Core Defense Capacitor Sa***uard Core Defense Operational Solidifier
Works without them, the rigs just offer a better tank.
Ran a lot of Lvl 3 missions with it, even beat the New Frontiers line without getting into deep trouble using a set of focused lasers instead of arties as i was doing amarr missions at that time. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

Low Slots
2x MAR II EANM II Active Thermal Hardener II Active Kinetic Hardener II Active Explosive Hardener II
Drones

Rigs
2x Auxiliary Nano Pump I Capacitor Control Circuit I
I like not having to swap hardeners depending on the rats and this setup is all round. Cap runs forever and lvl3 are cake . Havent tried yet lvl4 but i m planning too. I use a catalyst for salvage looting with 4 tractor 4 salvagers and mwd after mission is done.

Myrmidon is almost as good as a drake with tank and can do similar damage. It can tank level 4 missions easily, but not enough dps to complete them fast.
Fitting highs: drone link augmentors and medium artilery guns mids: named AB, rest large shield extenders II lows: all shield power relay II's rigs: core defence field purger x 3
Drone configuration: 2 heavy, 2 mids, 1 light drone, spare lights to handle the small ships
It's slow and does less damage, but can easily tank almost all L4's at full aggro. Tank is much better than a dominix, for comparison. It can also be used in tandem with a pure damage ship for faster missioning.

DCU IIs give shield and armor omni-tank that isn't stack-nerfed, plus sometimes you end up in structure no matter how hard you read the mission guide beforehand. Stuff (like lag) happens.
If you want rigs and you're not just trying to get up to BS as soon as possible, get them. I still take my Drake out sometimes and run missions on it just for a change of pace. Its core defence field purgers are wonderful and I have never regretted the money I spent on them, even though it slowed me down from buying and outfitting my Raven by a few weeks. ____________________________________

As a 3m sp stripling, after playing around with an armour tanked Myrm for Level 3 missions (2 MAR I, DCU II, 3 Hardeners), I tried the passive shield (4 LSE, 1 Inv Field, 5 SPR Is and 1 named PDU in lows) and was totally shocked to find it almost invulnerable to any number of rats in Level 3 missions. I mean this is a BEAST. I remember encountering a passive tanked Drake in PvP and being shocked and slightly frightened at how amazing the tank was, but I bet the Myrm is pretty close.
Of course it depends on your gameplay. If you like busy gameplay, dual repping, keeping an eye on things, the armour tank is perfectly safe, if occasionally somewhat anxious-making. But if you're lazy like me and you like to feel lordly and don't want to do anything except find the most elegant targeting sequence and drone control slickery, the passive shield Myrm is a thing of beauty. Provided you're sensible and don't literally aggro the whole rooom, you really don't have to worry about incoming damage AT ALL.
I mean you can go into one of those big rooms with like 5 or 6 clusters of mobs and just plow through them and the shield is barely dented.
The one downside is not having an AB, so the "plowing" is in fact rather at an agricultural pace. However, the tank is so strong I'm thinking of dropping one LSE and just sticking an AB in there (or maybe dropping the Inv Field?). I think the tank would still be strong enough.
I can also see this being a monster with blasters in PvP provided you've got a partner who can do the webbing/scramming/ewar stuff.
The really cool thing is that you can still fit 6 blasters or (for missions as I prefer) rails (atm I've got 4 Carbide 200s and 2 Dual 150mm Compressed Coils) which pump out their own pretty reasonable dps at okay range (10km) to add to the drones (atm I have 2 Ogre Is, 2 Hammerhead IIs and one Hobgoblin II). Total EFT dps of 243 dps/327 volley, which is seems quite reasonable to me given my sp level and the fact I've gone more for tank than gank.
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the necro, but I thought it better to ask here (stickied topic) than to create a new Myrm thread just for this question.
After reading the posts in this thread, the consensus seems to be that a passive shield tanked Myrm is a better choice for missions than any sort of armor tank, even with the ship bonuses. I'm curious if this is still the case, and for level 3 missions, is the difference really that drastic? Just playing around with EFT, it seems that I definitely need CCC rigs if I'm going to get 2 MAR's cap stable. Would a single MAR be able to handle level 3 missions? How about a passive shield tanked Myrm with no purger rigs? Money is not really an issue, but since I plan to upgrade to a Domi fairly soon, I dont want to spend more than I have to in this ship (and I can always add them later).
Just hoping someone with Myrmidon experience can give me their opinions on how to tank it. =)

See my post above, which represents recent experience from 3m sp player, so if you've got more it should be even easier. The passive shield tanks works beautifully in Level 3 missions even without purger rigs, just the setup I noted above. Pretty safe really.
Haven't tried single MAR setup, but certainly dual MAR (plus DCU II and 3 Hardeners) is safe too, only requires more hands-on management obviously, so it really just depends on how busy you want to be, and how you play - specifically whether you like jumping into the thick of things or kiting. I'd say if you like being in the thick of it, the shield tank is a bit safer, unless you really do bite off more than you can chew, when suddenly it becomes quite dangerous as soon as you get to armour (which takes a hell of a long time unless you're totally surrounded by 3 or 4 groups, so as long as you keep an eye on things you don't really have to worry). On the other hand, if you like being in the thick of it with an armour tank, you will definitely need some way to get your cap back. Personally I like cap boosters. You only really need 3 or 4 800s in cargo for any mission in the worst case scenario I'd say, which doesn't take up that much space.
But if you like kiting, the armour tank is better than the shield tank because you can have an AB in there and an Omnidirectional Tracking Link, Nav comp and Drone Nav Link, so you can be kiting and popping the leading edge of the crowd chasing you with your (manually target-engaged) drones from about 50-55km km average, and their guns hardly even get a chance to dent your un-pimped shields. _ber-kiting with massively ranged drones like this is good fun (well for me anyway ).
The passive shield tank is definitely fun to try though, I highly recommend it for a nice change of style.

I have always used an armor tanked Myrm in missions when I was doing lvl. 3's and it worked well, but this whole passive shield tank thing has aroused my curiosity.
How viable is a passive shield tanked Myrm for PvP??

My rig:
2 650 long range art 1 720 howl 1 smartbomb (whatever i have atm) 2 short range 480s (could be 420s, servers down atm but im pretty sure there 480s, I think of them as carronades, they preform the same function)
target painter med shield boost 10mn burner med armor repair tracking computer w/ opt range script
Low slot Typically 3 power opt. one CPU boost and a 100mm plating
Most of this is loot, thats why its so under equipped, BUT, it does preform well in most NPC missions so far. The LRA works quite well, the only problems are mid range for the 480s, but a quick burn to close the range to 5000ms or less invites a smartbomb followed by massive holes in the NPC ships :)

Passive tank gives you a huge tank at the cost of almost all your slots and most of your cap recharge. So you'd have a hard time to fit ewar or run an mwd. So it is great for pve as you tank better then most bs but for pvp you'll be a sitting duck that can eventually fend off a lot of threats but can't really kill em. If you want to use it for pvp you have to drastically reduce the number of spr so that you actually can run some stuff and free up at least 2 slots in your mids.

I've found that it "usually" makes sense to go with whatever the ship-bonuses are. With 4.5M SP's (BC at lvl4) I get the Drone damage and the increased Armor reps. I like to go with:
LOWS 1x DCU II 1x SAR II - starts running permanently as shields fail 1x MAR II - occasional boosting 2x EANMs (sometimes switched for rat specifics, but always the passives) 1x Nano - accel & turns a little faster (meh, could probably use something else)
MEDS 1x Drone Speed Mod - get to & from targets faster (if they're taking dmg) 1x AB 1x Web - (again, could probably drop) 1x Med Cap Battery (more cap and faster regen) 1x Cap recharger (15% or 18% I think)
HIGHS 1x Drone Link Aug - ups control range to same as targetting >60k 1x 250mm Rail (Iron) can hit targets at ~60K to gain aggro 2x 250mm Rails (AM or whatever I happen to have) 1x Med Remote Armor Rep (fix a hurting drone) 1x Tractor Beam - helps my salvager save space, as I can loot on the go
DRONES 5x Hammerhead II - highest dmg 5x Valkyrie II - for EX weak or very speedy targets 5x Vespa I - I don't think I've ever even launched these
I'm still working on the skills to use Med Arties, I'll switch to those after that (no Cap use (& longer range?)). Maybe dropping the Web for a Sensor Booster (range script probably) to get the aggro from farther away.
Without the DCU II on, I get >58% res on all (EX is only ~42% with only the EANM's). If I swap out 1 EANM for the EX res then all resists >47%.
I haven't had a lvl3 mission cause me any problems (sometimes I don't even get into armor before I'm done). Rarely run into Cap issues unless I'm trying to run EVERYTHING. Gain aggro, play Congo-Line-Popping, collect loot, Repeat.
My drones can catch & 2-3 volley most frigs (sometimes even in 1 volley, Drone Interfacing 4 ). I tend to use the AB just to maintain that ~60k range on bigger targets (BS's like AE lvl3 Bonus room). I think the worst I've ever had was about 80% structure left during a particularly hectic full room aggro (Gallente hulls & DCU II ftw).
Thought of trying L4's in it, but figured my (ISK & LP)/hour was better in the easier missions.
(My very 1st Post... ever )

My setup is mainnly focused on providing cap for the dual reps and 3 hardeners. Highs 3 200 railguns with plutonium charges Meds Afterburner 2 cap rechargers 2 large cap batteries Lows 2 med armor reps exp,kin and thermal hardeners I have electronics 4 and engineering 4. You can probably cram some other modules in highs with decent fitting skills. When mission running I generally leave hardners on as well as 1 armor rep. It remains cap stable untill you put the rails on and then it decreases slowly. When you drop below say 60% armor activate the second rep

I wanted to post my Myrmidon setup to see how it compared to everyone else's and as bait for criticism.
Hi 4x 250mm Compressed Coil Rail (Antimatter or Tungsten M) 1x Drone Link Augmentor 1x Small Nos (i'm iffy about this spot and i can't fit a Med Nos, perhaps if i went to 200mm rails?)
Med 4x Cap Recharger II 1x 10MN Ab (I hate being so slow)
Lo 2x Med Rep II 1x Damage Control II 1x EANM 1x N-Type Kin Hardener 1x N-Type Therm Hardener
Drones Hammerhead II (always), then mission specific.
Rigs (not enough funds yet to blow cash on these)
The tank is great for level 3's but the 2 reppers might be overkill? Sometimes in busy rooms, 2 reppers almost isn't enough. I dream of electric sheep. |

My myrmidon has the following fitting:
High:
5x 250mm Railgun T2 with antimatter charges 1x Drone link augmentor
Med: 1x 10mn abII, 3x cap recharger II, 1x omnidirectional tracking link or 1x drone navigation computer
Lows: 1x MAR named, 2x hardeners, 1x dcu T2, 1x capacitor power relay, 1x overdrive injector or magstab or EANM
Capacitor never runs out with all modules active, rails hit at 32.000, drones have bigger range

Edited by: Spark02 on 19/06/2008 08:48:41 I was just wondering whether my Myrmidon could do level 4's. I've heard a lot of conflicting responses as to whether it can or not, and I was just wondering whether it was actually possible with this fit (I'm not certain that it could tank the DPS)
Highs: 5x Heavy Neutron Blasters (named at present, will get up to t2 once skilled), Drone Link Augmentor
Mediums 10MN AB II 4x Cap Recharger II
Lows 2x Medium Armor Repairer II 4x Mission-specific Hardeners (t2)
Drones Hammerhead II's
Rigs 2x Capacitor Control Circuits 1x Aux nano pump (the one increasing rep amount)

My current set up:
LOWS N-Type Hardener I N-Type Hardener I N-Type Hardener I N-Type Hardener I Medium 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I Amarr Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
MIDS Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners F-90 Positional Sensor Subroutines
HIGHS 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M
RIGS Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead I x4
I know my set up is overboard with cap recharge in the rigs but I only have Jury Rigging I and that's pretty much all I can use. Also my drone skills aren't all up to par yet so I can only use tech I's right now. I can do 3's with no problems. If there's anything you think I should change let me know.

for 0.0 ratting i use 5x250mm rails 1x salvager for them bs rats 10mn ab rest t2 cap chargers 2x med repper 3 50% hardeners cap relays rigs 3x ccc this ship will kill rats with ease its fairly fast and has strong tank if u get caught with a nasty red and just use antimatter ammo put a can is aan ss to fill them ammo and loot and just empty it with a hauler when its full you'll prob find that in a good few hours ratting session u will fill the can with loot and salvage i tend to make 50mil isk in a good few hours with bountys and salvage/loot plus it kicks up ur ss if u have been naughty
