first to say, you support which i had needed some times is really great and i believe the people there do a good job on helping fast.
But ... maybe some software testers less on such an important feature like shipskins or icons less and more of them on the new sov-system would have helped to avoid the actual situation.

The nice polite answer to this is, it's entirely possible that they can't just restore the software, due to a myriad of possible reasons. There's a chance that the only stable backup they have of the system affected might be too old to use. Eve is not a monolithic system, so restoring a backup/rollback is a little more difficult than what you would do for a home computer.
7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?
No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided.
