Hi All,
Not sure if this has been talked about yet, i'm sure you will all say if it has :)
But now that windows 10 is spawning onto pc's as we speak, have people had issues with it and / or issues with it running eve? Does it run eve any better? Crash eve etc
Do give us you impressions and experiences with it and how it's working with eve :)

Seeing as I have a whole year to decide and gather the info to make that decision, I'm in no rush.

For what it's worth this has been ours so far.
We have two test towers one Windows 7 one Windows 8.1 with test games installed. also my HP laptop used daily but if it goes wrong can be easily re-installed.
The laptop upgraded first, it took an hour and turned out fine, everything worked fine except it won't always shut down correctly (under investigation). Eve works fine and seens to run a little faster than under Windows 8.1, Steam so far also seems OK with the games I've tested.
However both the towers have been a disaster, the Windows 7 flatly refused to update, likewise the Windows 8.1 machine. Downloading the Windows 10 iso and trying the upgrade with that simply destroyed the already downloaded files and again refused to upgrade the Windows 7 machine.
I have posponed the Windows 8.1 test machine untill I get some idea of what has gone wrong, in the mean time I am trying the upgrade as we speak on the Windows 7 machine using the 'media creation' tool from Microsoft.
Best advice, if it's not a test machine, wait for a few weeks until it all settles down. |

I just made a clean install of Windows 10 PRO, worked like a charm and the only piece of hardware i had to install drivers for was the graphics card (GTX650), everything else works out of the box, including my 7.1 surround USB headset!
Im pleseantly surprised with the overall speed, user friendliness and performance of Windows 10, so far. Due to my hamster pulled internet, i havent yet fired up EVE, but i will tomorrow (yes it takes all night to download that game lol) I can come back here and let you know how it goes, but i doubt there will be any issues. Not major onces at least.
So far i havent encountered any issues and ive only had two pieces of software, which didnt want to install on Windows 10 (was actually the driver for my headset and wifi, which worked out of the box anyway), the rest worked just fine :)

Rest assured MS is not making any money from the personal licenses - it's the server and services sides that make their ISK. Sharing it publicly like this is actually a very smart idea and will get their "one system, many devices" off the ground really fast. Once the people figure out the full potential of cross-platform Apps - see ya later androidz and applez.
MS is gonna make a whole lotta Benjamins outta this (especially in the business sector), just you wait.

Same here, Windows 10 has been nothing but smooth for me so far. It's a top notch OS and is right up there with the quality of Windows 7 and Windows XP. It's a huge step up from how Windows 8 and 8.1 turned out. Don't be too afraid to make the switch though I do recommend installing it on a separate partition or on a computer that isn't important for you to get work done on just in case you don't like it or aren't able to be as productive with it at first. It certainly isn't perfect and it needs some updates to include some key features but I'd still say it's a pretty good upgrade from Windows 7. |

After the initial upgrade my R9 270X card was no longer detected. The PC hangs on "shutting down" and didn't shut down even when left for over 8 hrs and there were crashes.
The Win10 recovery feature could not fix issues so in the end I had to use the Reset to factory win10 option and whilst it has removed pretty much all my games and other programs its working pretty well. Except that after shutting down it mysteriously boots back up......
Seems smooth but has far to many compatibility issues to be an official release. I would advise people to wait a while until programs etc are properly compatible before doing the upgrade.

Upgraded the windows disk on my Mac Pro 12 core to Windows 10 Professional.
Upgrade went smoothly, no problems with it running in native EFI mode on the mac. I did need to reload the apple bootcamp hardware drivers after the update, and also had to reload the nvidia geforce driver.
Those of you that upgrade, and will NOT be backing out to your old windows, can use Disk Cleanup (type it into search) to remove all the junk upgrade files, including 18+ gig of the previous windows files. After cleanup, defrag C, and your golden.
So far, EVE works perfectly, I'm averaging 180-200 fps in station or undocked on high quality at 2560x1600 resolution. Not bad for an older GTX 680 2gig vid card.
Very happy with Windows 10 so far, hope everybody with older versions considers it, its a worthy upgrade!

Remember after the upgrade your video drivers will be disabled and running in default basic mode. You must download and install the newest win10 video card drivers from AMD or Nvidia after the update is finished.

Just got Windows 10 and tried EVE. Game seems to run fine, but the sound is incredibly quiet. Youtube videos have correct sound, have not tried any other games yet to see if those are quiet as well.
Also volume mixer shows EVE as being set to the same level as everything else.
[Edit] Tried Luftrausers on steam, and the sound worked normally for that. EVE is still very quiet. |

Eve works just fine under windows 10.
The upgrade process was relatively painless and the only 'technical' thing I needed to do was reinstall my video card drivers.
Aside from that it kept everything just the way it was on my win 7 and win 8 machines right down to the browser bookmarks and settings. |

Windows 10 seems to be able to squeeze more juice out of my PC then windows 7 could, and i can feel that in EVE. In fact ive felt it so much i havent played anything else since i formated the harddrive :P So cant really speak about other games, but ive seen lots of posts, on other forums, that claim the same as me.

I'm really impressed with windows 10. EvE works great, and I've had no problems. Spartan or, edge, I guess, is a damn good web browser.
I'm actually going to get a dedicated laptop for a windows/gaming machine. Trying to figure out a way to get work to pay for that.

Works, worked already on Windows 10 insider previewiew. Old drivers are often a problem, check them first.
EvE and Win10 work on a Core 2 Duo with 570 4GB RAM as fine as in intel i 7 with 670 and 16gb ram. Now even isboxer (*g*) runs.
I installed debian on a mac mini, but thingy might not have enough power, will probably end as mediacenter.

Go to control panel/hardware and sound/power options/system settings/ shut down settings and disable "turn on fast start up " (by default on).
That will stop your pc from booting by itself after shutting it down.

No that was my confusion too but I have managed to get it to boot up again (Not so fried after all) But it was giving not-responding errors constantly so have rolled back to Windows 8.1 and all is working fine now... Have spent the whole day trying to get it to boot, then it did and I had no display, then finally got that back.... Oh well at least it is working again.

Minor problem with the launcher, I've just clean installed a copy of Windows 10 Home 64bit on an old Dell laptop.
Not having an up to date copy of Eve handy I used an old version from before the shared cache became the norm. The change and update all went fine and the client runs as expected, the problem is in the settings of the launcher. I always download all files but the tick box is un-ticked and it won't allow me to save the ticked box.
No idea why and I tried both with and without administrator privileges, so the game downloads stuff as required as the game plays, not a big deal, just a small bug. |

I did delete the launcher folder and reload the launcher as CCP Darwin suggested.

I got kinda drunk last night. I installed windows 10. After ensuring i disabled all the "we want to send microsoft everything! We want cortana listening to you all the times! We want you to p2p to **** your internet connection! Sucks if you live in Australia and have bandwidth limits lulz! " and then i could not disable windows update entirely :|
It also killed the eve launcher.
It would get an error. The game would not update. Repairs would not fix it. You could still play by launching the client then logging in but it was a pain.
I then went to sleep.
I woke up a few hours later when i was sobre. Realised what i had done. And rolled that **** back to Windows 7 immediately.

No worries, no intention on adopting Windows 10 as long as there are forced updates. That as a minimum has to go. Microsoft is really only making a Windows 10 for themselves. What happened to making a product that your customers love and then get rich that way, instead of using their monopoly to just serve us one crap OS after the other.
This wouldn't be such a huge deal if it wasn't for the fact that people that want a system that's relevant in gaming has to have a Windows system, otherwise you're out of luck as that's pretty much the only system they release games for. Get started on Linux please, it's the lack of dev support for Linux that's holding me back from making it my main system. A vicious cycle.
-I want to control what gets installed on my system, so please don't force your crapware on me with forced updates. Or rotten drivers for that matter.
-I don't want my privacy violated more than it has to be, so please don't spy on my every action.
-I want an "I know what the **** I'm doing" version of Windows if I'm ever to purchase another version. So please release a proper Windows 10, you can even call it Windows 10 Technical (since you've sullied the 'Pro' label). I will pay for such a version.
Pretty ******* please, with sugar on top.
My prospect right now is to sit with Windows 7 Pro 64bit, which isn't so bad, but it sucks to be outdated by 2020. Guess 2020 is the end of the line for me as far as proper gaming goes, and I will have to join the impossible fight of making Linux a relevant gaming platform, even though that is one of my biggest wishes in this universe. It will probably spell the ending of my gaming career. |

Not interested in W10 until resolutions or work around solutions for driver signing are implemented to support Open Source Software that interact with devices and kernel level stuff.
As it stands, it seems open source developers are being/going to be limited and forced to pay substantial $ to develop certain kinds of software that were normally viable under Win7/8 and even prior. Ostensibly in the name of improved security. But it does a nice job of making OSS device related development difficult/impossible for independent devs who have limited resources to afford a relationship with microsoft. |

Use Apple iOS. All cool kids are using them. The best hardware and software integration bar none. You pay for premium but you know you are getting the best stuffs. Windows will die before 2020 and will be acquired by Apple.
Sorry, not a hipster. Also being tied to apple services is worse than anything m$ or Google have ever done. |

If I click in space, the screen blinks white. It only effects the space background. Ships, planets, stations, etc all stay solid

edit: more detail. Moving around probes in the map makes it blink like crazy, im guessing once for each probe. warping causes it intermittently, as do session changes.

Hmm, tried to revert back to a more stable and tested driver for your GPU?...
Oh wait, Windows 10..
My best advice then? Wait until they might fix it with a driver update in the next release, or revert to a previous Windows version. |

I went from 7 to 10 as well. This is the first OS I used where right clicking the start menu was a thing and it was pure random fluke I found it. I don't mind it now that I have 'normal' menus and consoles back. Wasn't liking it one bit at first.
None of my games seem to change any as a result of the change though.

My update took 18 minutes. I had to update the Intel network driver, as it didn't recognise my Netgear router, but that wasn't Microsoft's fault. All in all, I like it a lot. |

As for CCP, they have been good towards seeing that EVE seems to keep working on a Linux setup. If you have one of those giant hard drives with little on it, you can always dual boot, try that for a year, even if it's non-contract as that's not really important for a desktop deployment. btw you have Linux if you have an android device runs on a modified Linux kernel.

So the government / Microsoft are gonna make posts on my behalf? They gonna clear out my bank account?
Any examples of this happening, or is it just paranoia?
Institutions having my details? No worries. Nothing to hide.
Individuals? Not the same and you know it. Not that I trust institutions, but what can we do about it? At the end of the day, if they want your data, they will get it. Do you still use credit / debit cards? Connected to the electricity grid? Receive post? Registered to vote? Unless you are totally off grid (and even then spy satellites will find you), they have your data anyway.
Question still stands (other than some nutter ranting on a documentary). What do you have to hide that you don't want governments or Microsoft to find out? And doesn't trying to hide your data make you MORE of a target? Why worry about something you cannot avoid?
But anyways, Windows 10 installed here, along with the 'insider builds' option ticked. Updates installed. All workig well with Eve and even a modest increase in framerate with no change to graphics drivers (from 15fps to 17fps using AMD radeon 5450 on medium settings).

I am not sure if you guys have an answer for this but I too installed Win 10 (from Win 7) on my dedicated gaming rig. I did my research and disabled a lot of the "features" that people in this thread are concerned about and I am over all satisfied with the OS performance.
The thing that has mean very curious is that whenever I am in game (EvE, WoWS, AW etc) I will occasionally and randomly end up on the desktop with the game minimized to the tool bar. I now have to click on it to return to game.
Now, I do have a new monitor (TV). So the question is, is it Win 10 or the monitor doing this? If it is Win 10 any ideas what how and why?
Google searches have not helped. I think I am not using the appropriate phrases maybe.

Other possibilities, video drivers, other running processes that just can't cope with winx. Kill all unneeded processes, and eliminate threats.

But since they killed the native Linux EVE client, they seem to have made sure it's kept running on wine under Linux. Likely CCP has an in house test system with Linux, especially since they use to dev the client for Linux.

Quoted for truth and relevance. This is a directly related Windows 10 topic imho.
I also really would like to know what CCP, being the decent people I perceive them to be, imagine sane users upgrade their operating system to? Where do I go? I'm still on XP and fiddling with Ubuntu.
There was a linux client I read, and I trust they were perfectly reasonable in ceasing its development whatever the logic to that was. Hopefully there will be a migration (at least maybe cascaded over a period of time) of a few more percent of the overwhelming marketshare of Windows towards Linux systems - in hopes it may return. What alternatives are there? Going until 2020 using Win7 feels like changing crutches.
The plan for me right now is buying a faster processor which amounts to buying entirely new hardware due to the APU and going with Linux and Wine and hope for the best. But what is their stance? Do they expect us to use Windows 10 when they cease support of DirectX9 in the foreseeable future? |

We may very well risk a period of oblivion for people that finally stop using Windows and move over to Linux. We probably won't be many, but it may yield a few more percent of market share to Linux, if it will be enough to sway developers is another thing.
Perhaps a temporary solution is to dual boot, which are my plans, and then only use the Windows system for games that aren't native on Linux.
Perhaps some day in the future. Nothing lasts forever, not even Microsoft or Windows. |
