WHAT !! i can hear the screams.
Well I've been salvaging some of my rat wrecks since it was availiable and, im not anywhere near 1000 units (as some are), got about 40 i think, but that don't change my point...
The drop rate is FINE for the effort required - especially as you get loot as well.
This was supposed to be a 'mini profession' but seems to have been hijacked by a group of ' I want rigs, but im not gonna buy them, I wanna make em meself'
Well Boo Hoo !!
You want to salvage, fine !! You want to build rigs, fine !! You want to do both, without it taking ages, GO AWAY
You are trying to build parts from burn't out wrecks for pete's sake - what your saying is.. set light to a block of 50 flats, let em burn - then turn up afterwards and try to build a usable 3 piece suite from the bits.
Ignore these people CCP or you might as well just get rid of salvage parts and just drop rigs.
As this is a 'bonus drop' to what we had before, your just complaining that the chocolate icing isn't thick enough on your free cake !

Guess there will be common once enough have been produced?
I'd agree with the OP and leave salvaging as difficult as it is atm....
Specialize in it to be better or do it with less efficiency.... kinda like pvp no?

Having to salvage about 50 hours (raw estimate) to build one single rig while there are about 150.000 * 3 rig slots to fill makes absolutely no sense.

I dont rigs to become dirt cheap. I say that rigs should cost a minumum of a mil or two and take some time and effort to make. I agree that what we get from wrecks is a bit unbalanced, and that it should be balanced so that the materials, such as the circuits, that are used heavily in manufacture are a little more common.
But I do not agree with a large boost in salvaged parts, I like salvaging BECAUSE it is less accessible than mining, therefore it is more profitable. I think that if the drop rate is going to be increased, it should only be increased for higher slavaging skill lvl. And by the rigs which give you a higher chance of salvage. So anyone that take the time and effort of making a ship just for salvaging should reap the most reward for it.
I don't have a problem with authority... ...as long as it doesn't get in my way. |

When you salvage 20 wrecks and only 1 of them contains a rig then their something wrong. Alot of players gave up on it already cause its not worth the time right now.

Well Duh, it's not supposed to
If you go to a scrapmetal dealer do you expect to be able to buy reconditioned parts, well maybe, but only 1 or 2.
I think the problem may be the way drops are done, got used to mod drops, so instant thing, shoulda bin just mins or alloys from the start.

Demand controls the price... if there is a high demand and only a limited supply... imagine what salvagers and producers can make on rigs.... How about we give it a month to see how it developped....
TBH, I would even take bets that in 1 month no one will complain anymore, since they find out the perfect way to salvage and produce apropriate amounts of rigs.

As did my alt just a second ago. Three hours of ratting / salvaging in a 0.3 system, giving me exactly 37 parts while you need 250 - 300 to build a rig.
17 of those parts were this odd "contaminated lorentz fluid".
Face it, rigging is an empty placeholder in Eve and will stay that way until drop rates are made tenfold and drop ratios are made reasonable.

I want the choices involved with rigs to be more like "Hmm, which three rigs do I put on this cruiser, so many, but only three..." not "Can I really afford this rig to go on my faction BS? I already have the officer rep and the deadspace hardeners, is that much more really worth so much isk..."
The second is more what it is like with the current man hours and difficulty involved in a single rig. Rigs should cater to the common denominator in my eyes, and be an actual feature for the masses. Fitting is a big part of the game already, and putting three more bonus and penalty slots on every ship is a lot of fun in terms of tweaking builds and spending endless hours obsessing over your ship.

T1 Rigs should be in the price class of about 500k and 5m, T2 is far from being an issue, I guess we will never see any of them (because invention is nothing but a strange oddity).

There was a short while on sisi when rig building requirements were about 10% of what they are now. Maybe CCP just put a zero too much at the end of the requirements?

i think that would make sense - they will either increase drop rates or drop requirements or do a little of both either way come wednesday everything should be cheaper - personally knowing that it will one way or another become cheaper / quicker to create rigs come next wednesday i recommend cashing in on the histeria and sells those rare parts now (the ones that should be common) and keep hold of the common ones which in theory should become rarer
i sold some of those circuit board parts for between 700k - 1m a piece which covered the cost of me purchasing all the rig bpo's i have an interest in building because chances are that price is gonna drop in t-5days

Indeed. And since those bpos were so cheap (they are exorbitantely cheap, which makes me believe CCP intends to make rigs very common stuff) you haven't lost much if this rigging stays an empty placeholder forever.

indeed, the drop rate is fine, but the drop ratios seem a little off - mission rats drop next to nothing (i can salvage a whole mission and get nothing, when i can salvage a belt with 3 4k rats and get 2 modules), and the drop ratios seem way off.
i've been salvaging every wreck i've come accross since tuesday, and i intend to make some weapon rigs, for which i need two types of circuit and smashed triggers. i need about 60 smashed stiggers, and about 90 of each circuit. i currently have about 45 triggers and about 3 of each circuit.
now perhaps the minmatar-region rats don't drop much circuitry (why? and who does?) but it seems to me that the less you need of something generally represents the difficulty involved in getting hold of it (hence zydrine and megacyte not being needed as much as tritanium in standard production), this appears not to be the case in salvaging.
now, am i farming the wrong area? or is everyone seeing the ratio of drops completely skewed? (the market prices of circuit boards in comparison to alloyed tritanium bars and smashed triggers seems to agree with my observations). ========================================== Iy |

Edited by: Tao Han on 08/12/2006 10:43:56 Dont salvage the mission wrecks then, get to lowsec and salvage those instead. I have about 8/10 droprate in a 0.4 system, and you get several bits in like 3 of those 8. Sure it takes some work but isnt it suppose to? Not just making rigs another module.

i'm not bothered about the rate of drops, i can handle that, it's the type of drop. there's dozens of different components, some are related to module types, like capacitors, armour, shields, etc, but the more generic ones like fried and tripped circuits just never seem to drop. it's that which i find odd ========================================== Iy |

i dont think there is any place that drops the circuitboards in abundance - from what ive read on the various threads about this topic - the lower sec you rat or mission the better the salvage this also applies for the larger the ship but the larger the ship the BETTER your salvage skill needs to be to succeed, i would also point out that missions involving drones or racial enemies i.e any rogue drones, gallente troops, republic troops, none seem to drop any salvage at all. whereas as missions involving pirates e.g. serpentis guristas etc do seem to drop salvage. In regards to the salvage skill i found that i failed to salvage cruiser and above with salvage skill 2 but with salvage skill 3 my chance of success increased dramatically and also the number of parts salvaged also increased (from one cruiser i got 3 parts including a circuit board!)
hope this helps

rigs are something EVERYONE should be able to get just like implants, they shouldnt only be for the rich like so many other things in this game

Hey, someone in general discussion with a clue.
Well done sir, you have saved the day, I was beginning to think there was no real people left in the game with any idea of what is going on at a macro level in eve.
Everyone needs to check in 6 months and see if the drop rate has been a problem because there is absolutely no way you can tell right now.
thanks for brightening my day Dendrin, dbp

I think that I should have been rewarded with 1 - 2 rigs for 3 hours of low sec rat hunting and salvaging. Then it would be fun as well.
Secondly, I think that CCP should introduce new content in a way people can really feel it's impact in a positive way. As it stands, rigging is non - existent and salvaging is a pain in the you know what.

Hi there everyone.
My opinions on rigs/salvage.
I Rat In a tempest/raven/mega (depending on the rat) and usually have two high slots to spare, i kill one rat and tractor the wreck/empty the loot, and salvage it while killing another rat for maximum efficiency of time.
The way i see it, those salvage parts ARE adding up, and i hardly notice the time it takes to gather the parts since its just free parts that i hardly had to train long for (got salvage 3 in less than a day). Eventually ill make a rig or two, and when i sell them, it will bring me some extra pocket change that i didn't have before.
Think of it as...a paycheck bonus.
As for the people that want to buy rigs, check back in about a month or two when salvage is being traded among salvagers for specific types to make specific rigs. You likely wont see many rigs on market, but rather youll find lots of salvagers willing to make a specific rig for a much fairer price than what we see now.
A doubled salvage rate would be welcome, but really i don't see it necessary. Besides, rigs are a permanent ship implant meant to make your ship superior to others... if rigs become commonplace then everyone will need them to compete with everyone else.
Try viewing rigs as two things, as a seller view it as a paycheck bonus.
And as a buyer, imagine it as tinting the windows, adding new rims, and bucket seats to your already favored ride. It takes money to make a tricked out ride, surely you dont wanna see every joe with the same tricked out ride as you.

i think ur missing my point - if u get 100- 200 parts per mission its going to be very very easy to get every part u need and there will be almost no demand for the parts or the rigs which would essentially take the fun out of it - i think they should increase the drop rate a BIT not alot.

The mission salvage drop rate is on the low side but just about bearable... however the following changes should be made (imo)
a) Remove the completely empty wrecks (the ones with no loot and no salvage - yes, they exist, because it's possible to 'successfully' salvage nothing). Not much is more annoying than MWDing 100km to loot an empty wreck.
b) Seed the npcs that currently don't drop salvage. Mercenaries, Navy ships, rogue pirates, 'named' npcs, rogue drones and (possibly) even statics like sentry guns and outposts. Last night I got 5 missions out of 7 where there was no opportunity to salvage.
c) find some way to speed up the process of salvaging. I've been timing the missions on a 'Time to Complete' / 'Time to Loot' basis. In every case it takes longer to clear up after the battle than to beat the mission itself. For example, Angel Extrav (L3) took 25 mins to complete from the 'first kill' to getting the agent reward; it took 45 minutes to loot. The Score (L3), 12 minutes to finish and 25 minutes to loot. FYI I use a battlecruiser to run the mission, BM a can, then come back afterwards in a dedicated lootship (destroyer with 4 tractors / 4 salvagers and a MWD).
d) Rebalance the drops. The proportion of circuit boards is far too low, especially as those are the items most commonly required. I have way over a thousand components, salvage 4 skill, been salvaging from day 1, both in missions and belts, and I still don't have the 'matching set' of components to build any rig at all.

As above. The only problem I see, really, is that some missions drop nothing and others drop too much. Kill 40 mordus legion ships, scan every single f-ing one. Get nothing.
Kill five blood raiders, get 3 salvages. Wtf is that.
Nowhere in the description of Salvager I does it say "does not work on drones/mercs/etc."
