Sorry to say it but GIVE THEM SOME TIME!!! I would love to see half the people in here complaining do anything close to what the guys at CCP are doing. I don't see you guys out there making and patching games, give them a break, taking computer science at university I can tell you coding and making sure everything can handle a 20K+ population is NOT easy!

I guess having written a web application providing more than 250k employees of a a world wide operating company with a document management system run on a 8 load balanced Sun Servers and running on Java allows for some criticism doesnt it ?
It can happen that things take a bit longer then announced but if they take that much longer then its better to revert and get the systems up and trying the "fixes" later.
But at least providing information on what's going on is good service.

Wow, you take CS at Uni? ZOMG, that must make you like, the smartest programmer EVA. Couldn't be that anyone that plays online games has any real-world cluster experiences with mission critical application development. nah - those people don't play games. I mean, they'd all be working at CCP right, because they're like, the best company EVA.
Something you should have learned at Uni - test, verify, release. The gaming industry has a disproportionate acceptability of releasing faulty software and criticism of such seen as bad by community users. If your university released a student access program with as many bugs as EVE, it would not be met with smiling faces. It would likely be met with lynch mobs of students who cannot access their FA, courses, and school resources ready to draw blood.

What? Are you serious? Reimbursment for lost time on your account? Huh? Do you realize what you're saying.
$14.99 for 30 days. That's $.50 a day. About 2 cents an hour.
Let me get this clear. You're bithcing because you feel you've been jipped out of almost 6 cents, at the time of this post?
Hmm that seems wrong. It would be stupid to do that. What about if we look at it as time?
30 days is 720 hours. Assuming the same 3 hours you're missing out on 0.4% (four tenths of one percent) of your total possible play time for the month.
Nope still stupid when you look at it that way.
Awesome, simply awesome.

The Contract system is VERY vulnerable to exploitation until you make the following change:
When one unit of something is up for sale/auction/etc, there should be a "x 1" indicator to show that only one unit is included.
In other words, a player-written description gives a number, but the locked-in item information does not indicate any specific number, meaning there is no visible contradiction of the terms. Unless someone has previous experience with the Contract system, it is very easy to get lured into thinking that the description is accurate. Specifying the number of items in each transaction is essential for a complete, intuitive understanding of what is included. I see a lot of auctions, in particular, taking advantage of this oversight.
I think this is worthy of a hotfix, and hope you repair this situation as soon as possible. |

We should give them some time. It is after all rocket sience, isn't it?
But I get as frustrated as anyone else from the lack of real information. I really would like an IRC channel or similar with someone from CCP present at times like this, keeping us posted.
And on the free patches thingy. I'd say we're all paying for it, without change/evolving this experience/game would be dead.
Keep us posted CCP, here or in another pre-determined place. It would benefit us all.

Hey I never claimed to be the smartest programmer and I know the steps needed to release a patch or program, but things tend to go wrong every now and then, it's not like they have given up on Tranquility, I agree some basic idea of what is going on would be nice, but quit bashing them just because they are having some problems with the patch, IT HAPPENS! And I'm sure they are working on it.

On a more serious note: Could we get ANY sign of live from CCP in this "official" thread, the one we are all refered to for answers? Changing the MOTD ever so slighty for a increasingly mystical comment doesn't really satisfy my curiosity... :D

Probably because while the splash screen is up your computer is loading the game?
The login screen slows to a crawl if you have a Radeon card with AA and anisotropic filtering turned on, I don't know why that is but it only affects the EVE login screen, it shouldn't slow anything else on your computer down.

It does say "are you sure you want to buy one unit of xxx" before you click ok. Your own fault if you've clicked yes or checked the "don't show this again box"

I have an X550 on one machine with 256 Mb Video RAM, 2 Gb RAM, P4 3 Ghz with hyperthreading.
It slows down everyting on this machine including just type in the forum.. like now.
On the other machine, a dual core laptop with 2 Gb RAM, and a 512 Mb RAM ATI Mobility FireGL V5200.
It slows down everything on there too.
What is the setting I should turn "off" ?

I can verify this...elecronic engineering agents (or atleast the agent named "Wingvontzen Urata") has in his predictable patents the "Mobile Small warp Disruptor I" and the "Mobile Medium warp disruptor I" which can both be purchased off the market. There is also no listing for the tech 2 large bubble if that is supposed to be in there.

Edited by: Dark Guardian on 13/12/2006 18:18:07 I don't know EvE history that well, but does anyone remember any times when Tranquility was down for at least 24 hours? I think the last time was around a year ago.
Note: The MMO starting with the letter W still goes down regularly on Tuesday for around 6 hours (frequently longer). The downtime has not gotten shorter (as it tends to on EvE once the patches are debugged). Players there are not reimbursed for that downtime. Just as a point of comparison.
Edit: logged in just now. Your mileage may vary. |

Yup I know how you feel. Splash, login screen and char select are horribly slow. Or maybe that's my duo processor. Sure there's something wrong here..

Mmm so let me get this straight....
I offer to build/provide you (insert any service/product you would like... be creative it doesn't matter).
I then charge you for said service/product (in advance) and provide 99.9999999% (keep adding numbers for all you statistically crazy people that like really long perfectly accurate numbers) of said service/product.
I then say thats it buddy... all ya get, suck it up and deal with it....... Good luck pawning that off on any PAYING customer if your in the service or sales industry (which btw CCP is) ie: Mr Customer, here's your New Boat, oh the missing propeller on the motor.. nah you dun need that... we got 99.9999999% of it done it's good enough.
I don't want a refund, and honestly since I was expecting this (insert quote about those who fail to study the past are doomed to repeat it or some such crap..)and generously started a nice 8 day skill (lotsa faith here on their said time "estimates")... I don't really care. But CCP should figure it out that if you:
A. Set expectations @ (a time frame, uptime on servers, what content you are providing/product) and
B. Fail to meet said mark.... people are gonna complain. Human nature.
... And yes I have great cheers for the good work they do and all the effort blah blah blah... it's their JOB.. which if I put out buggy whacked out stuff like this I would LOSE mine...
Oh and the devs aren't getting beers or watching TV while laughing at us all sitting here going wth... They are trying to integrate the CEO of CCP's new Ferrari Enzo into the Jita node to increase performance (since nothing else has worked).
..and I am spent
