Last year we were pleasently surprised with the snow ball launcher.
Any idea if we will get another gift this year and what it is?
Or alternatively what do you think will be a cool little gift.
Personally, a rapid fire firework launcher with timed skyrocket amuntion would be quite cool.

Nice idea :) That, and the heavy fireworks launcher thingy mentioned before, lighting up the sky for a minute after shooting it maybe... perhaps shooting it at a tree would burn it down, so people can get more trees instead of one 
And the monument at the Jita blob station should be an extra huge X-mas tree during the holidays IMO

b) my very expensive, but now very useless, Caldari ECM recon ships...
Oh, that includes wasted skillpoints!!!
(with the refund, I'd immediately buy the most cookie-cutter-esque battleship and fittings to suit the narrow style of gameplay now being encouraged)

They're not going to give us any new item - instead they're going to address the complaints about how the Snowball MMV's aren't fast enough, so they're going to play with the Snowball Launcher attributes to counteract the lack of speed the MMV's have, and in the end, we'll end up with bugged Snowball Launchers which can't load the Snowballs, and cause CONCORD to aggro you even if you just undock from station with one equipped and online.
It will take them 3 weeks to fix it, but instead of just reverting back to the stats which worked originally, they'll halve the size of the MMV ammo size, double it's velocity and make the explosions flash white at everyone within visible distance of it - when we ask why the flashes of white, they'll fix that by just removing Snowball MMV's entirely and letting you load normal cruise missiles which do no damage.

specially the lag posts, sheeeshe, i dont know where the bulk of these people live, but they have to get a clue.

CCP has already given us salvaging for christmass, and they have spoiled us with it too, nerfing the skill and the drop rate so that everyone gets a chance at getting components. It is silly if you ask me, they should have stuck to their policy of making salvaging a specialization. Have they yielded to whiners pressure or what? I do not like that, this does not bode well.

Has anyone else noticed that the state of the server seems to go worse the closer we get to christmas holidays? I have only seen one christmas in EVE so far, but that was all crashes and downtimes, and the way its going now doesn't seem much better. (like relog after you have made jumps to make your fps ok again) Do they have a rule that says we can't have server operating well during the time we have time to play most?

Oh, I have a few ideas that would make me happy, like:
1. One skill of choice to lvl V (must have prerequisites, so no "Titan V", please)
2. a new class of ship, dedicated Explorer/Salvager vessel for example
3. making Stealth Bombers useful
4. giving Industrials a Dronebay
5. ATTACK OF THE JOVE!
In the unlikely event that none of the above should happen, I just wish for all the hardworking CCP staff to keep up the good work and do their best to make EVE better.
And from our side, the players, to keep enjoying EVE and taking it easy on the old whinage.

How about everyone gets a christmas sleigh. Its a ship with no slots, limited or no cargo, but looks like a sleigh and reindeer (effectively a shuttle).
It's about as useful as a snowball launcher. Does not effect game balance. And will become a collector's item.
I know its not the gift everyone is hoping for, but I just dont think CCP is going to hand out SP's, ISK, or any other non fluffy type of gift.

CCP stole Christmas.
I'm surprised they didn't make at least a little effort at a time when so many players are disillusioned with Revelations - no gift, no snowflakes on login, the only acknowledgment I've seen of Christmas is one thread that only 3 or 4 devs posted in.

Well since EVE is mainly a player driven game, perhaps the players should come up with the presents this year...
Fill your cargo bay up with goodies and go "attack" other players with random acts of generosity. Get a couple points of scram on them, web em so they can't bugger off, maybe even NOS them a bit to make em nervous. Then force them to take some isk at gun point or something. Hehe. Christmas spirit EVE style.

Beyond slaving away to finish the art side, I guess you'd have them pouring over Eve design docs all day, and ruining their eye sight cramming xml and python all night to the dim light and meager heat of the single coal ScrougeHellmar generously alloted them, let alone forbiding them any time with their families so they can QA it too?
Feh. Take a break, its only a game. CCP worked their socks off to get the Revelations patch in, there just wasnt time to design, code and test a gift.

Seems to me a lot of people sort of forgot what the true meaning of Christmas is. I will be the first to admit that Christmas or the other holiday's around this time could be many things to different people but I feel that it is not all about seeing who gave you the coolest gift or getting a corpse launcher for your ship. To me it's about being with family and friends. I rather see the Dev's spend time with their families then busting their humps more than they already have to get the patch fixed to make an item that I will maybe use once or twice.

People are rightly disappointed because while we did expect to get something we were also told that "something in the works" and to wait till Christmas. So Christmas rolls around and nothing? So yes, people do feel as if we were promised something that was held back from us.
Had CCP said weeks ago "Sorry, we didn't have time for anything special this year, have fun with your family!" that'd been just fine. But they didn't. That's why people are disappointed.
I'd have been happy with 1 unit of Coal to be honest.

Well, i don't know about the rest of you, but personally i was refunded a ship i lost due to a client crash about a week ago. All things considering, especially the fact that i cannot really 'prove' there was a bug that crashed my client (perhaps logs show this?), i consider that a 'gift'.

people asking for a present are not sad, they arent asking for too much, its the thought that counts on christmas, if the thought was there last christmas but it wasnt this christmas, then i feel theres an obvious degradation in there thoughts on the community,

QFE. But Jim, I do think the Devs knows that a lot of the playerbase DO care about them. Not just as a provider of a fantastic game, but also as people. Im not sure if you where at the fanfest, but I saw it to a great extendt there. And I told Oveur in person. They certainly can do mistakes now and then, but wtf. they listen. and if they feel we are right, they act. But listen they do always. which imo is pretty rare for a gamecompany.
Christmas presents are always nice. I guess I will never grow up completely But I can be without it. just give me a decent christmas dinner, with lot of good wine with family and friends.

Somehow this discussion brings the picture of a bunch of fat spoiled kids to my mind, demanding precious gifts from their parents, totally forgetting that they work their ass off to provide food, housing, and education to them. It gets difficult to me to realize, that the average age of EVE online players is said to be significant above 8 or 9.

a) CCP said they have something ready for Christmas.
b) WE (the players) PAY for this game. As such, the argument that "they work their ass off" is silly.
c) I hate to do this, and I'll prolly get flamed for this but... Guild Wars doesn't require people to pay for the game each month. Yet they manage to, somehow, keep up with all important festivities, be it Christmas, Haloween, Easter, and prepare some sort of "event".

THe majority of people whining are people who are seeing it as the start of something that you should be more concerned about.
Like when your child starts listening to 50 cent and has a 18 year old 6ft tall boyfreind at 12.
The life ahead is what you have to look at, it was once said a child doesent think into the route ahead it just thinks of what they have right now and then, this seems to be your mindset.

I personal think the DEV put in charge of making something to hand out at Christmas time failed. Be it too many other EVE things needing fixed or famliy time or drinking to much, the work didn't get done. Can you say PLANNING needs to be done upfront, not at the last minute???????
I would of though it cool if it snowed at log in or feisty music playing in the stations.
Even Earth and Beyond could handle the music in stations during Christmas season .....................................

I take it people saying ccp doesnt owe us anything dont work in any type of service industry where you have to deal with clients.
Of my vendors that I deal with I dont demand or expect a large gift for xmas but we do get some sort of apreciation that its xmas and thanks for your business and almost always gett invited to a big holiday bash.
And to my own custumers you bet your sweet ass that we send our largest custumers a gift of apreciation and try to do something nice for the smaller ones.
Its called PR and Marketing. and its amazing how a little thing can go a long way in regards to custumer relations.
Not that I am demanding anything from CCP.

FWIW, the lack of present didn't kill my Christmas. I didn't take down my tree in a fit of rage. I didn't grab a pitchfork, form a mob and go on a witch hunt.
But it DID kill any vision of "professionalism" in my eyes. A *dev* outright told us they had something 'big' in the works and we'd have to wait until Christmas to find out what it was.
CCP *offered* the promise of a gift to us. The customers didn't demand it ahead of time. Sure there was speculation on what we'd get but I saw most of those threads as light hearted 'wish lists' like when we were all kids.
What is even funnier is that nearly every single post filled with profanity and venom on the subject have come from people attacking the customers who are asking "uh, what gives?" like you. I had to self-mod your quote because of childish profane filled insults. Who's more childish here?

They are just words like many others in the English language, if you get upset by them then tough, I use those words to express how strongly I feel about people who as far as I can see are acting like overgrown children who didn't get what they wanted for christmas.
If you really feel so strongly about the issue there are other games that do give out freebies and put up nice Christmas decorations around the land, but enjoy paying for all the expansions for those games.

My point is that it seems hypocritical. I cuss like a sailor but I also konw profanity is generally considered uncouth (especially the "f" bomb). Here you are so unhappy with people who are, in your opinion, acting childish and treating CCP with disrespect that you hurl uncouth insults at them and treat them with even more disrespect and act even more childish? I fail to see how being more 'over the top' than those you're complaining about is proving your opinion or even rational.

And I agree that the DEVs should not of announced a "big surprise" then go totally silence on the issue. At least they could of said we are sorry no surprise this year because.......

An X-mas present like last year would have been nice, but not expected. Even if it was just making more snowballs available.
I thought they would AT LEAST kick on the snow flake generator. They already had that.

To the whiners: Did you sing all of your songs like: Jinglebombs and Rudolph the Rednosed CCP Pirate Developper? Helped to put up the Caldari manufactured tree and spend hours getting those knots out of the cables of the little Amarr candlelights? Did you put every Minnie ship as decoration in the tree? Were your New Years fireworks shot from Arbalest Launchers bought in Jita?

How on earth could CCP know that you were celebrating Eve-Mas then?

I did not wish to get any presents from CCP, nor have I ever asked for any.
But what I really fail to understand, is why they even denied to provide stuff we could buy. It would have been nice to spend some isk, lets say 5 million or so, to get a snowball launcher and a few hundred snowballs. People could have organized some player events that way, spreading good spirit and a bit of christmas feeling.
I have been playing many MMOG¦s. I never got any presents up to now. But I allways got the tools to bring the christmas spirit to the game myself. Be it a quest that resulted in a stash of cookies I could give to other players, some handcrafted chocolate, or whatever. Stuff like this already has a tradition in online games, that reaches far back to the years when eve wasn¦t even a rough sketch on some drawing board.
Yes, CCP has to face some serious questions about why they did not care. How many minutes would it have taken to seed snowball-launchers at some stations, so players can buy them? How many minutes of effort (before you close your office for christmas holidays) would a bit of christmas in eve have been worth?

PS: I just used snowball-launchers as a well known example. ANYTHING christmas or winter related would have been ok. Heck even just a bit of jingle-bells in the stations would have been better then nothing.

This thread certainly proves the old adage:
"No good deed goes unpunished."
I think it was very nice of them to come up with something for Christmas last year... even though they got grief from many elements of the player base for wasting resources on foolishness. I also think it's pretty evident they were trying to pull off something nifty for us this year as well.
Evidently it did not work out. Get over it.
When they have time to comment on something this trivial, I'm sure they will. Until then, get a grip ladies.

This thread is spiraling down the drain quite rapidly - and in itself only managed to help kill the xmas spirit.
Yes, we were promised a christmas gift, and so far there has been no in-game chances. Perhaps something will happen during the extended downtime on Thursday, and if not, well, increased stability is a gift in itself. :)
Moreover, is it ridiculous to demand we, the community, gave the Devs an xmas gift? Or is this whole gift-business suddenly a one-way street? Granted the scale is different, but it's the thought that counts - as have been pointed out numerous times in this thread. :)
No, I have not given them a gift, i wish i could say i had.
But there's always next year. :)
For what it's worth, i hope you all had a pleasent christmas and a good new years eve.

I was gutted that nothing happened this year. Last years snowbal fights was truly something fantastic and was a refreshing change to the grind.
i scanned about christmas day and around that time for anything that might have popped up in exploration (yeah santas grotto was a fantasy ;/) and i even searched every asset hanger i had and nothing :(
i wasnt too unhappy cause its a game ffs but i felt a little deflated. Maybe chocolate egg launchers for easter. . . .
