Hello ,we all know that capital armor ships have their set of tank(slave set),usually the Shield one have to choose to agility +5 % shield. Why wouldnt we allow Crystal set to work on capital boosters?we would see more content, more interesting fits on supers/dreads. Excuse me if there is a topic like mine somewhere,i couldnt find it! |

Supers use shield boosters? rly?
Unless you talking about creating a new set of implants that add slave effects on shields and crystal effects on armor.
There is a logic behind each set. Shield boosters use a lot of cap and therefore crystals help minimize operation. Armor Repairers need to wait on cycle time to deliver , therefore increase in buffer helps.
If you get primed in a cap, you are dead, doesn't matter if you got crystals or not. Plus that might give a competitive edge to shield tanking caps. Think triage and add the cumulative effect of crystals. |

Ancillary Capital Reppers could be a thing of the future. Or Capital Shield extenders to buff up shield HP.
But crystals to work on Capital Reppers? Just don't see it happening

+1 to this idea, I've been saying it for years.

Not all capitals are supers, Brobax.
I'd love a crystal boosting Nag or Chim for w-space.
Why would it be a bad idea for shield caps to be useful instead of just armor?
Armor for large engagements (buffer). Shield for small gang (active).
EVEN IF active chimeras became popular for triage, NEUTS always win.
Explain again why this is a bad idea? |

Not all caps are super, very astute observation, i was specifically referring to the remark about supers. Look up original post.
Neuts always win, even when it comes to the mighty archon (triage archon is active too).
Never said its a bad idea, but if you run the numbers, triage + crystals bonus might prove to be a big OP, including Capital rigs that help reduce cap shield booster's capacitor usage and cycle speed.
It sure is inline with the nature of shield tanking. Use the booster less for more cap conservation. But then you talk about w-space, you need to look at the implications that will arise in all space, W and K.
Slaves benefit armor supers, but crystals do not ( you need to consider that too). Factor everything into the equation, not just the point of view that serves your gameplay better, and then you end up with a dilemma that CCP will have address. For the moment, it ain't broke so why bother fixing it.
Finally,

HG-1008 comes to mind
Argument is , slaves benefit Caps and Supers (armor), but crystals do not (shield)
CCP should run the number, and if crystals do not provide too big an advantage for Capital Boosters, then they could allow it.

not to long ago a titan (a levi if memory serves) exploded that had been logged off for long enough (returning player to eve) that it had faction modules and a t1 (not even meta 1) shield booster fitted...
It looked rather weird... The problem is that supercaps arent "supposed" to be solo boats and if you want to drive by doomsday someone or something you have enough brick ehp that it shouldnt matter if you have a few, or even a few tens, of thousands of tank repping after action is just better... |

I think original poster was thinking Shield capitals only, the remark on supers was probably a mishap.
Supers will be unaffected from crystals (unless they invent the superbooster- meh).
The links post could be fun, provided that links are on grid with the capital. So ehp buff to the max your command ship and engage.
Maybe petition ccp to run the numbers for crystal bonuses under triage-siege. Would help the niddy a lot too

The Caldari ones tank more than the Amarr ones (tank bonus's) and the Minmatar ones have more ehp than the Gallente ones (support/DPS bonus's) so yes seems fine to me.
Shield caps are harder to fit, armor fits can be done on the cheap were as shield needs isk to make them worth it.. but when you don't fit your capital ship like a scrub like its a T1 cruiser hull they are very good.
Phoenix is the highest tanking dread and also the best at blaping right now. The nag is used alot in WH space with both armor and shield fits, Chimera Has the largest Active tank in the game and can have cap stable tanks above 30k dps if fitted right and 60k+ Burst tanks. Wyvern has the 2nd largest EHP's after the Leviathan both of which are more than any thing else in the game. Levi has coolest DD in the game now and is also 2nd fastest after the rag, the rag haveing the best DD for killing armor supers is the fastest and also has more EHP than one of the other Armor titans. Nidhoggur is the best at RR'ing (quickly saving something like a pos) and has pretty much same tank as a nice fit archon if you spend some isk on it. and the Hel's are the only thing that can get close to a gang of wyverns in terms of active tanking each other while also been the fastest caps in the game.

Before you mess in the implants check what is the difference between shield and armor capitals, include passive regen, shield boost at the beginning of the cycle , reps amount you can get from the modules, and all the stuff. Currently the best super is Wyvern , especially when you have more than one and can use remote repper.
Shield supers currently don't need boost, like caldari carrier.
Are you aware that phoenix can easily have few million EHP on a very cheap faction fit - now give it a crystals affecting shield boost.

So erm yer We don't need your help CCP plez don't mess with us..... It is true that most (ill take your word on the thanny niddy comparison) have better base tanks. That being said, once you go beyond that into links and and inplants, the difference drastically shifts. It goes from small to moderate differences to vastly different situations. The potential max tank on an archon is vastly superior to the chimera, even after heat.
I wouldn't be all to adverse to shield capitals losing a bit of hp from certain areas to justify allowing proper implant usage. Either that or armor tanks becoming less reliant on the bonuses from implants and links and buffing the base.
The main issue being (imo) shield fits having less options to specialize in their strengths compared to armor specializing in theirs. |

PL Picked Armor supers and caps because in 2010/2011 our two most used fleet ships were both armor so it was decided at that point to have an armor super fleet so there was an escalation path from subs to caps to supers that all use the same command ships and stuff. then we invented slowcats and as our supers were mostly armor we used armor carriers... we do have a shield slowcat fleet just like we have a shield super and titan fleet but it takes time to build. but as of now we are about 70% armor and 30% shield so we can now escalate both armor and to some extent shield at this point. |

Surely it has nothing to do with the fact that armor supers are proliferated far more across the entirety of eve. Or the fact that (unless they have changed drastically recently) the numbers of either amarr or gallente supers individually outnumber the number of caldari and minmatar combined. Nope, has nothing to do with the balls-deep tank you can pull with slaves.
But that's besides the point, since I doubt any super pilots would be interested in a crystal set for their shield boosting wyvern or hel. |

You would be comparing what the ship excels or specializes in. Arguably ambiguous with certain ships (looking at you minmatar).
If we were to compare things like shield moroses, we need to compare them to things like armor pheonixes. Or at first, to their own fitting options. |

Yer they will if you look just at EFT numbers because shield is good at max burst tanking so in eft they look like they cap out super quick but if you manage your cap...(just like you would on an active tanked PVP BS or something) that's were they start to shine. |

They should deffo Boost T2 BS Armor tanks tho as they are pretty useless compared to there shield versions if you would like to change something change that. |

Shield supers might be better but when you have one of the largest super fleets in the game anyway it makes no sence to swap over for the limited gains you would get and the way it is the best way round to have it (as we will all ways have armor supers anyway because people like the nyx and the iron man aeon's ) is the have more of the weaker ones (i.e armor) and less of the stronger shield ones. But this is all totally off topic anyway because Supers don't active tank nor need crystal sets.. Shield caps are balanced fine were they are now all we need is a resign for people to use caps for sov and we all gravy I might be more willing to believe that, if it weren't the exact same scenario for pretty much every other super fleet in the game. I imagine someone out there runs a shield-heavy doctrine, but I haven't seen it before.
The bonuses from armor implants can be extremely powerful, flipping the overtanked shield cap on its head. And that really helps with rr fleets that use buffer more heavily. I can definitely see the base numbers for shields being tweaked before a change like what is suggested. |

So you have around 850+ shield caps, 170+ shield supers and 60+ shield titans (going by numbers provided by PL people in this thread). Thats 3.4 FULL fleets of capital ships + almost a full fleet of titan/SC, yet armor is what is used... |

Shield caps have more EHP than armor caps even WITH full Slaves plugged in. Absolutely not.
Shield caps are already strictly superior to armor caps, the only reason shield caps don't get used is inertia. If you already have 500 Aeons you're pretty much stuck with armor as there's no way to effectively switch. |

Tappits say PL have 2000 armor capitals, you say you have 70/30 armor/shield. If 2000 is 70% of your capitals then 857 is 30% Then we have 400 armor supers, again if that is 70% of your supers 171 shield would be 30% Last we have 150 armor titans, if that number is still 70% we are left with 64 shield as the last 30%
I have ONLY used numbers provided by PL members for this math. Most likely your own numbers are exagerated to prove a point, bit more armor capitals that the real number to show how unrealistic it is to change + higher shield % to sell the point that shield is better. All this lead to the final numbers for shield beeing way off :P
EDIT: You may be refering to my 3.4 full fleet number when the actual numbers (using numbers provided by PL members) is 3.347 fleets of 256 pilots. 235 SC+Titan is still very close to a full fleet |

No, they don't. Go ahead and show the capital that doesn't outclass its counterpart/contender when it gets a ~50% bonus to its tank. |

An A-type EANM increases armor EHP by 54.77%. An overloaded A-type invulnerability field (yes, overloading is relevant, because you can OL an A-type for about 20 minutes) increases shield EHP by 128.57%. The shield tanker has more EHP than the slaved-up armor tanker upon fitting the first resist module, let alone any additional modules. |

The numbers were just ball park random numbers. Its not a 70/30 split its a bit random, we have more shield titans than shield supers we have more shield dreads than shield carriers think we have more Aeons than we have Titans and all other supers put together shield and armor. we have more archons than any other cap prob 4 to 1 in reality. We have lots of things more than most and we prob have more shield supers in PL than any other single alliance and we don't even have an official shield super fleet. Regardless of numbers we cannot practicably swap everything over and its not realty worth it for us at this point when we have the numbers we have anyway. they can be better but its not that much better at the numbers PL fields and no one cares about the "what if" B-R mk2 happens... Shield makes sense in the small number game as you can have 20 wyvern's vs 30 isk nyx's and win with maybe 1-2 losses max but when your dropping 50-100-200 supers on stuff and if some one can counter you TANKS are a bit irreverent when dread bombs can alpha all supers when in the max sized fleet of caps range of fighting....
But this is all off topic of shield active tanked caps

Im sure you understand that i can only use the numbers provided by PL members, if those are not the correct numbers the math i do with it will ofc not be spot on :P Can i ask why you dont have an official shield super fleet if they are better and you have the numbers for it? About you having more shield supers than any other lliance, you proberly have more shield supers that most other alliances have supers but still "only" use armor.
Saying Shield supers are good in small scale war, when was the last time you had a 20vs20 super fight? Its 10vs1-2 and jump before 20+ dreads land on field. |

Tricky, that stands true for armor carriers/dreads too, they cannot be repped as well. If you are talking about capacitor consumption being crazy on shield boosters, then allowing the "Shield compensation" skill to have an effect on capital sized modules is the solution. You will gain a 10% reduction to capacitor consumption and thus get to pulse your booster a bit more.. But as I said before, Crystals on Capital Boosters could prove a bit overwhelming. Slaves do benefit Armor Capitals, but they got the detriment of delivering rep once the cycle is completed, not at start. And Capital Reps cycle slow.
As always , the discussion got derailed on supers :D |

The ONLY question in that post is why you dont have official fleets when you have the numbers for it and they are by your own words better. One of those things are clearly false, either you dont have the number for shield capitals you claim or they are not as good as you claim (or you have the numbers of better ships but choose to not use it for whatever reason...)

But, like tippits said, this is about the active tanking aspect. Which I am very willing to admit, shouldn't simply be an allowance of the bonus to work on capital modules without other tweaks or changes. For me, it's mostly about expanding the use of the implants so that it is not simply excluded from an entire class. And I honestly think the best solution would be to modify both armor and shield active tanks so that, like the buffer tanks, there is less broad of a distinction before adding variables and allow it to expand better as it goes. And with the capital rebalance coming (soon(?)), this is a great opportunity to smooth out the inconsistencies and whacky patterns as much as possible. |

So because you cannot work out how to make Shield tanks better than armor tanks you would like CCP to make implants work to help? Is that what you are saying? because i have no clue what any of you are going on about other than you don't seem to be able to use EFT or have no clue how to fit capital ships or both. i mean i don't get it the only thing i can think of is non of you used capitals very offten or something so you don't know how they work or something because its pretty simple stuff. on everything from Frigs to Dreads... All active tanked armor ships use less cap then there Shield counterparts but shield use more cap but can tank more... and because shield active tanking implants don't work on caps they have ALLREADY been balanced to still be better.... Yes on some setups Armor with slaves will have more EHP than shield but the shield active tanks are still better which ever way you look at it.... Yes you would like everything to be smooth and balanced against each other so everything is the same... But People like the wacky in eve and making everything comparable to each other is boring. what is wrong with having a ship with 4x+ the tank of there armor versions (marauders) or only one ship in its class having damage bonus (nyx) or having 90% of the time useless bonuses (hel RR bonus) or something been the FOTM (everything at some point) its just with caps it takes longer for the meta to change and swap and filter down to the rest of eve because most people in eve don't fly caps and those that do most do a pos kill op every month and that's it. |

The point is that slaves give a little over 50% armor EHP. As soon as you fit a SINGLE deadspace hardener to your shield capital, you already have more EHP than the armor cap will ever get even if they fit the same number of resist mods. The difference in resists also more than makes up for the efficiency difference between capital shield boosters and armor reps, resulting in the shield tanker beating the armor tanker in both HP/second AND HP/cap.
Shield caps need a nerf, not a buff via Crystals. They are already strictly superior to armor caps in basically every way, the only reason armor caps are still used is because you can't mix doctrines and if you already have 500 Aeons you're kind of stuck. |

As long as Armor is the goto for every major alliance ther eis no need to nerf shield. If we ever get to the point where shield capitals are the goto for anyone that is anyone THEN we can talk about nerfing! |

Shield logi rep more in a short span, but over an extended time period rep less. They don't stop repping when the capacitor runs low, they rep less and manage capacitor.
Shield then shines in situations where you suspect a sudden ambush, while armor shines in situations where you expect an extended brawl. Since both sudden unplanned yet slightly expected ambushes and planned extended brawls are common in New Eden, both shield and armor have a strong niche of their own.
You might note that strategic ops in nullsec are always extremely picky about whether or not they are shield or armor. This is only partly to make the logi match the ships. Often more important is that they have already decided whether an extended brawl is more or less likely than a sudden ambush.
This is also why the Scimitar and the Guardian are the most popular logi ships. The Scimitar and Oneiros shine in sudden ambushes, while the Basilisk and Guardian shine in extended brawls.

Nevertheless, the fact that there are no good implant sets for shield capitals (even though some people will mention nomads and ascendancies, I consider those to be niche implants that are useless in most capital fleet fights) remains to be a problem. We need shield version of the slave set, which should be added to few Caldari LP stores. Similarly, we need implant sets for every empire faction. I suggest the following bonuses:
- Amarr: Capacitor amount
- Minmatar: Scan resolution
- Gallente: Targeting range or something Drone-related, like hitpoints or control range
Naturally, they should be weaker than the pirate implant sets and come without a high-grade version. 20-25% bonus from shield slave set should be enough.

You cannot just randomly add something like this to the game just because you think shield caps NEED SOME SPECIAL IMPLANT SET (which they don't) because it will totally screw the balance on every ship in eve. I think the bigger problem is that capital ships get the full bonus from implant sets. The best high-grade pirate set is pretty much mandatory equipment for any supercapital and available for well below the base hull cost of the ship. I think implants should have half effect on capital ships.
