Seems like a good move to me. I know CCP were looking at higher levels, so I guess they will watch what affect this has on making the NPE and or training into some basic fits, a bit easier.
If anyone is wondering where this is from, it's in the Vanguard patch notes:

Training optimized to a remap without implants gives you 2M SP per month.
400k is nothing in comparison, but it helps the new player make more choices out of the gate.
Seems like a decent move to me.
And I wish I could shout you out

They'll just move the goal post you know. Now they'll say "I need JDC V to be able to PVP!!!"

I think 1m-1.5m would be better for them this will allow them to get some basic skills and jump into whatever field they are looking to pursue.... as really the only other starter activity atm is mining... sure you can do PVE but with the skills on week 1 you will still potentially struggle giving them abit more will be good move overall and allow people to get into the game faster. |

But if it removes the blocks - say 5 hours to fit MWDs, for example - barriers lift.

So new players/characters get a small boost start? Good plan Though the really important stuff gets mentioned twice in the patchnotes:
FEATURES & CHANGES : Modules: Festival Launchers no longer require launcher hardpoints
FIXES : Gameplay: Festival Launchers no longer require launcher hardpoints
Considering I have blown up several hundred million Isk worth of fireworks all over space in the past few years, just for fun and laughs, this is a good thing. More 'OOOOH!!! & AAAAH!'
Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

Exactly what will happen. Because the problem wasn't lack of skill points, it was lack of will.
It's exactly why doing things like getting rid of skill loss on death doesn't make people take more risks, the people who complained about it were never going to take more risk, they were jsut mentally 'saving face' by blaming something else for their dislike of taking risk.
Personally I don't care what CCP starts characters with in terms of skill points (it could be 5 million SP for all I care), just commenting on the futility of it all.

This will be the same way. But if it removes the blocks - say 5 hours to fit MWDs, for example - barriers lift. Goals are fine, [pointless] barriers add nothing to NPE Those goals could just as easily be done through module balance though with civilian versions of the modules with less stats but also less fitting reqs. And then bpcs and modules could be given during the tutorials like they do now.
More SP mostly helps alt creation or those who already know the game or have people guiding them from the get go. Now people say that that isnt a bad thing and its not, but THAT is the only barrier... "you have to have such and such a fit or you cant do anything blah blah blah". Its not enjoy the game, ask questions, mess around and just ENJOY it for a week or two before you make any big plunge. Its instant gratification for morons imo.
And yes irregardless of what you give them the bar and goal posts will just be moved. That is why we complain about entitlement in the first place both in game and out of game. There is no more joy of the journey. Its I want to hop in and play at the "fun" level without any work, effort, or time involved. And the thing is if theyre THAT new they dont even actually know what fun is for them anyway.
So wanting to herd people into certain areas of the game faster shouldnt be a matter of handing them skill points. And thats always how Ill look at it. But then Im 2003, do everything for yourself and figure it out and enjoy it kinda player. Which I realize is the route less traveled. But I want to PWN N00Bs!!! Waaa!! Waaa!! I must be 1337 sucka mofos!! Waaa!! Waaa!! Seems to be more the way of things. Its about the journey not the destination.

They should give players choices of what skills they receive. Even if this means CCP creating focused skill sets you can choose on creation of your char. Trader. PvP, Miner etc.

This reminds me of an old Alcoholics Anonymous saying "Half measures availed us nothing." From a newbs perspective who was just at 0SP and is now at 2.2m SP, 400k SP looks like a step in the right direction but probably needs to be 1mil+ to make a real improvement IMO. |

someone had a great idea of making opportunities and career agents reward SP, would be a great way to get newbies to 1++ mill SP quickly and also get people to do that stuff. |

Well, exactly. I know you're going to produce some figures that contradict what I'm saying, but it does seem unfair to hand over the SPs to them on a plate. I for one would love to put those free SPs into the PI tree (which I will never train on my own!)!

We paid 1-2 weeks worth of subscription to train those skills, now they are given to new players for free. How is that fair?
